This place was pretty clean inside and has spacious seating. Our cheesesteaks were made to order and the veggies were fresh. I thought the beef was a bit too salty. I love cheesesteaks, but because of the heavy seasoning, I haven't been back.

Looked for places to eat in the area, and some cheesesteaks with cheese wiz sounded amazing. Went on a Sunday afternoon when it wasn't too busy and ordered 2 cheesesteaks with cheese wiz and were not disappointed. We were so hungry that these definitely filled us up. The bread was so soft and the cheese to meat ratio was perfect! The fries were the perfect side. The staff were super friendly and quick with taking our order and even brought us our food. The decor inside looked so good, I loved the news themed basket liners under our cheesesteaks. Overall a very pleasant experience and would come back again if in the area.

Gosh, I'm so sad today this place just isn't the same as it used to be. Since moving to the west coast, returning here for a cheesesteak was definitely a high priority. Minimal differences from my last visits but certainly took the mouthwatering magic out of the experience. The cheesesteak used to be perfection, this time the onions were still crunchy, the provolone (no I don't get cheese wiz) was slathered on top of the bun. The crab fries were hardly seasoned which considering a $1.25 up charge for old bay seasoning, like bruh be generous wit da spice! They also changed the ranch dressing which used to be a beautiful blend of buttermilk ranch, now it tastes like a concession stand sized tub of spiced mayonnaise. Considering the cost is not on the low end and the disappointment was real - I likely will not return. If it's your first experience you may truly enjoy it, but if you are an OG customer you'll likely be let down. Small things make the big difference, sad that it appears corners are now being cut at this establishment.

These cheesesteaks were everything we hoped they would be - right down to the VERY fresh & soft Amoroso rolls!

Flim flam fries, not the best for the price

Just stopped in about a hour ago and got a mojo cheese steak sandwich. All I can say is I'm super disappointed! This place use to be great to get one of there sandwich's because of the care and attention to details on every sandwich. Well today I had to pay that premium of almost $20 for one and all I asked was please no onions and what they did is put barley any cheese on the sandwich ,but about a full shredded size onion on my sandwich. I had to throw it away because onions make me sick ,so that was a waste of money and I'm not going back after this experience.

Stopped here for a sandwich and wow! These are huge! They've got the Philly lingo down regarding "wit" (as in "wit onions"); my provie wit (aka provolone and onion cheesesteak) had enty of meat and onions but was somewhat lacking in the cheese department. Staff was very friendly. Would stop by again for a taste of Philly in this area.

Mojo's cheesesteak and cheesesteak hoagie w/ fries were fresh and tasty! The place is really clean, service was friendly and efficient. The bread is authentic and shipped from Philadelphia. While the prices are higher than other places, the quality is better too. You get a genuinely good tasting cheesesteak sandwich and I don't mind paying for it. If you're on a budget, this might not be the place for you but I'm glad I gave it a shot.

there is a very thin layer of tuna in there somewhere.

The cheesesteaks are great. I ordered cheese fries and got home and no cheese. That was really annoying.

Our food was freshly prepared and the milkshake was thick (which is my personal preference). Everything tasted delicious, and the portions were generous enough that we left with leftovers.

Ordered for pickup. Worst website on the face of the earth. Virtually no product pictures. No…read moreproduct descriptions. When you actually click on the item you want to order, it lists all the ingredients so you can omit the items you don't want....this is how you can find out what is on the food item. Interestingly, for a cheesesteak, it lists lettuce, tomato, and mayo....none of which actually come on the sandwich. (See pictures) Also, it automatically added a $5 tip to our order. Ummmm, no way are you adding an auto tip to my pickup order people. It took us forever to figure out how to remove/modify the tip. I am appalled that you think it's ok to add a tip to an order. As for the food, it was served very hot. Good job there. The Philly cheesesteak was delicious. Not a huge amount of steak on the sandwich. (See pictures, and note how little steak there was compared to the chicken sandwich.). The fries were good. The Buffalo chicken cheesesteak was unbelievably greasy and salty. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly, and there was a generous amount of chicken, cheese, mushrooms, and onions. That being said, it was literally dripping in sauce, which was 95% grease, 5% flavor. I would definitely not order this sandwich again. On a side note, we received a text asking us to complete an online survey. I took the time to do so, and when I hit submit, it asked for THE code they sent us. They did not send us a code, so I could not submit the comment I took the time to write. This place needs to get their act together.

Oh, how I miss that one big guy that used to say, "gimmie a beef, drag it, and a bag to travel"…read more Or, "gimme an ice, cap it, next!" Johnnie's is an icon, just based on the experience of listening to that guy talk. Ah, but he's long gone, and new ownership abounds. But the beef is still great. One of the best beef sandwiches around, combos that are seasoned just right, and Italian ice That hits the spot on a hot summer day. I think the hot dogs are just a throw in, and the fries are decent. But it's the beef that keeps bringing you back. Not much ambiance, unless you want to stand and watch the cars roll by on North Avenue, but the smell of the sausage cooking is intoxicating. The price of the beef has gone up, and I swear it's a tad smaller, but if you're in the neighborhood, nothing hits the spot quite like a Johnnie's beef sandwich. I can still hear the big guy...."Whaddah need, gimmie a beef, wet, sweet and hot, That'l be nine fiffy two, bag it, next!" I miss him...

Johnnie's Beef is known. It has a reputation. One that it upholds with every hot dog and beef…read moresandwich they serve. You've undoubtedly heard the rumors and they are true! Choosing an "off" night (example: a weeknight) or during a less-than-ideal time (example: during a snowstorm) will give you the quickest experience for Johnnie's as the line can get LONG and parking is terrible (tiny lot). Note: this was my second visit as my first attempt, on Father's Day 2025, was a magnificent bust. We had no line and plenty of seating this time! They have a big menu, but save the cute stuff for a follow-up visit and get a beef (& hot dog is really hungry). Do yourself a favor and get an Italian Ice too, time of year is irrelevant. You can thank me after your tastebuds recover from being overwhelmed. Is the food THAT much better than other spots, you ask? Not handedly, no. But the whole experience, especially if you wait in line (in the sun as there is zero shade), is what makes this place great. It really is a delightful Chicago experience. Put Johnnie's at the top of your list this summer, plan accordingly, and ENJOY!
