I didn't know this was a chain, but no matter what I was in the mood for hot chicken. I always pass this place and each time it wasn't busy. It's close to Kitakata ramen. Parking is sufficient. When you walk inside, they have a ton of seating available. You order at the counter, take a seat, and they bring it out to you (if you are dining in). Service was very friendly. They greeted me when I walked in and asked if everything was good. I ordered the sandwich combo along with a small macaroni and cheese. -sandwich combo 5 - the sandwich had two huge pieces of chicken tenders with coleslaw and pickles. They added 24k sauce to the sandwich but they also provided an additional small cup of sauce for free. I ordered medium heat. People said the coleslaw could use more flavor, but the coleslaw was basically there to kind of buffer the heat. Medium was spicy enough for my eyes to water, but it was still enjoyable. I didn't want it to be too mild or too spicy on my initial visit. The batter was on the thicker side but the chicken remained super juicy on the inside. That's what matters. The fries were crinkle cut with seasoning. I recommend dipping your fries in the 24k sauce. -macaroni and cheese 5 - creamy texture with lots of cheese. Noodles were firm but not hard. Plentiful amount.

This place is clean and easy to get to. We went for lunch on a weekday and it was steady. We were immediately greeted and had the menu explained. Food came out hot and was obviously freshly prepared. However, the food didn't wow us. The Bryd's Nest is a mix of coleslaw, fries, chicken and a house sauce. It was tasty but you better be hungry because it's huge and leftovers not really an option with coleslaw and fries. How do you reheat one and not the other? Also it will give people with OCD about food touching nightmares. My party wings had a heavy seasoning on them similar to what you do with Nashville hot chicken, but I didn't think the seasoning complimented the Buffalo sauce at all. Also the fries had an herby seasoning on them that didn't hit with me either. For Muslim patrons though, the meat is listed as halal.

My husband and I really enjoy hot chicken and lately it's become a household sensation. We saw this place on yelp and decided to try it. Walking in we loved how inviting the interior was. My husband being a southern native, loved how "at home" it made him feel. The interior was very clean and adequately spacious. We both ordered the chicken sandwich and the Byrd Bomb fries (both in medium) and got two drinks. While we waited the owner indulged us in conversation about different spice levels as well as our opinions on different flavor profiles. He definitely made us feel very welcome. Byrd's did NOT disappoint us. The bomb fries had very tender pieces of chicken that had a very well balanced flavor to them. The mixture of chicken, coleslaw, and pickles took on a taste that my husband said was better than Hangry Joes. In my personal opinion, the pickles were still moist with pickle juice which I loved, the slaw was still crunchy which added a nice snap and the chicken was perfectly cooked. The chicken in the chicken sandwich was the star of the show, and just like the fries, the combination of the ingredients gave it all a unique taste that we both enjoyed very much. I highly recommend this restaurant for its juicy, well seasoned chicken and fresh ingredients. I am not a fan of Hangry joes or Dave's due to how I feel nauseous after eating it however, if you are a fan of those places I think you will also love this restaurant. Side note: The owner did mention this is a soft opening and there is a more extensive menu coming.

From out of town wanted to try something different this place did not disappoint, food was made to order. I ordered medium spice and it was great be careful it's definitely warm for a medium spice. Staff was friendly and wasn't bad priced

New hot chicken joint in Lombard worth checking out. My personal point of comparison is Fry the Coop in Elmhurst. Chicken here is crispier with thicker batter/crunch. Hot spice is good heat without melting your face off. 24K sauce is a tasty thousand island dressing minus the pickle bits. The coleslaw is the only item that could use some enhanced flavor. Fries are typical crinkle cut fare. More items to try and will be back.

Enjoyed my first visit. Went for the number one, thought I asked for medium heat but the receipt said mild. I definitely could handle something spicier. Crinkle fries were piping hot and well seasoned. Very friendly staff and the dining room was spotless. The breast hung off each end of the sandwich and those bites revealed the delicious breading and perfect doneness. Will have to stop back for some medium heat wings.

YUM YUM YUM!! Food was so fire and affordable. I am in love with their chicken tenders. The portion is huge and the place was very clean. I love how fresh everything was and the service was very quick. The owner was very sweet and gave us a free drink on the house . We're from out of state but will definitely come back when we're in town. ALSO, this place is halal!!!!

Byrd's is located in a small plaza across the street from Yorktown Mall. There's plenty of parking. The interior is spacious and has fun decor, such as a rooster on a skateboard. We ordered a chicken sandwich combo, chicken tender combo, and a single tender for my son. We made a slight mistake ordering two combos, as we ended up with way too many fries. The chicken sandwich was pretty good. I thought the coleslaw could have been more flavorful, though. The 24k sauce was tasty. They actually stick two large tenders in this sandwich. The chicken tender combo was also pretty good, although the batter was a bit thick and I had to peel some off. I got one tender with Mild spice and one with Medium. The latter definitely had some kick to it, but not unbearable. The bread they use for the toast seems to be higher quality than the simple white bread used by Dave's Hot Chicken. My son seemed to enjoy his tender. The fries here are interesting, as the seasoning on them kind of reminds me of sour cream & onion chips. Overall, a nice spot for fried chicken if you're at the mall or nearby stores. I think I still like Dave's chicken the best (specifically the chicken, not sides), but Byrd's is on par with Dave's and Hangry Joe's.

    Mild Chicken Wings

The breading on the mild chicken wings tastes burnt. I tried to eat them but gave up. This was my first time trying this place and won't be back. The season on the fries were decent.

At first, I was disappointed they didn't have Chicago Italian beef. So I asked what they would recommend, and the very polite lady behind the counter said, "You should try my meatball sub." I laughed and told her, "I don't know... my late grandma (100% Italian) made the best meatballs ever, but alright, let's do it." Then she asked, "Do you want peppers?" and of course my reply was, "Heck yeah!" She chuckled. When the sub came out, I have to say, it was huge. I sat down, took one quick smell and a bite... BOOM. I was instantly transported back to my grandma's kitchen, eating Saturday pasta and meatballs. I highly recommend checking this little gem out. The service, the atmosphere, and especially the food were all amazing. I definitely was not disappointed. P.S. Don't skip the desserts -- once again, absolutely amazing. I guess I need to roam around downtown Glen Ellyn more often... some friends and I gave it a try for lunch on a Friday. After stepping inside and taking one glance at the menu I knew it was going to be great. The menu has a ton of sandwich options, some pizzas, and a cooler with side salads and drinks. One bonus: they have little samples of the side salads, which is wonderful! The potato salad is incredible, by the way. Besides the menu being very easy to read, the staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. I went with The Viking sub, a potato salad, a bag of chips (Deep River, yum), and water (free and flavored with lemon!). It took just a minute or two for my sandwich to be made but the ambiance is chill and inviting. One small critique: they could clean up the "storage" feel to the place. We ate our meal al fresco, as those are the only tables they have, but it was enjoyable because the weather was nice. Most others grabbed and went. The food is outstanding! The sandwich was absolutely delicious and the toasted bread was perfection. Piled high with meat and toppings it is easily the best sandwich in the west suburbs. The Deep River chips are a great pairing, as always, and the potato salad was everything I was hoping for. In all the meal far exceeded expectations and I left full and happy. My friends were also equally impressed. If you can't already tell, I'm a fan... a BIG fan... of A&G's. The fact that it is right here in downtown GE... I'd like to try one of the fries w/ meat items some other time. I was overwhelmed with the options, but the employee pointed out his two favorite options, so that helped me narrow it down. I went with the Southern Fried Chicken Melt (just the sandwich, not the combo). It was fried chicken with melted cheese and some veggies smushed between multi-grain bread. It was served very hot, so after a couple of attempted bites I decided to take it home to eat. It was very tasty. It took about 12 minutes to come out. I definitely plan to go again and try some other items. Service was excellent. I think pricing was fair ($12.95 for the sandwich only, plus tax & tip) considering the size of the sandwich; it was enough for two people, quite frankly.

It was a solid 7, which is why I place it at 3.5 stars. I may be being picky here but it just wasn't to the level of "melt-in-your-mouth" pastrami standards for me. Not to say it wasn't good, because it was perfectly fine. In fact, it's better than most of the pastrami sandwiches I tried in Chicagoland. Maybe it's the fact that I had to bring it back to the office to eat it, and half hour had gone by and pastrami weren't as warm and the Jewish rye had become soggy by the time I took the first bite. I mean, it goes without saying that the sandwich would have been 3 times better had I sat down immediately and had it. Again, all things considered, it was a perfectly good sandwich. One interesting thing was that I had never been to an establishment that included a half sour pickle instead of a normal one and gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. Pickles can be a hit or a miss for me. I like my pickles to be crunch, but some places offer overripened ones that become borderline mushy. Schmaltz's half sour pickle was not overly salty or sour, making it very attractive for me. It was nicely filled. They definitely don't use Turano rolls and I found the bread to be dense and not absorbant of the jus. The reason that I order it dry is because usually there's enough moisture in there to soak through the Turano roll without it being dipped but this was not so it was actually bone dry. Sure, I've lived here for 45 years so you can call me a purist but if I had known it would have been that dry I definitely would have had it dipped.
