Still thinking about my friend group's late lunch at Golden Boy Barbecue! I went with a group of 6 on a Saturday to enjoy the beautiful Chicago weather. Their inside feels like a greenhouse with tons of glass walls around but they also have a large patio (some shaded, some not spots). On Saturdays, they do 1/2 price frozen drinks, $1 wings, and $17 buckets of booze. I tried the Frozen Espresso Martini which was the perfect patio sipper! My friends got the Redtide which was a bit tart for me but they loved it. For food, we got some shareables for the table: Elote, Mac & Cheese, Ancho Carrots, and Cornbread. All the sides were amazing but the standouts were the elote and carrots. For meals, everyone got a mixture of Sandwiches and Golden Boy Plates. The Pig & Bull Sandwich was tender, packed with flavor, and loved the sweet slaw paired with it. Even on the plates, the meat was all juicy and tender. A group of us went to try Golden Boy for their BBQ and trivia. Our waitress was kind, and assisted us throughout the night during trivia. The food overall was delicious, however, there were a few drawbacks. The pulled chicken did have a bone in it, and the cornbread on the platter was laughably small. I wouldn't bother putting it on the menu personally. Everyone seemed to enjoy their drink selection, all in all, a good visit. read more

Great experience today at Golden Boy. Started w the Pulled Pork Nachos which are fantastic. Huge portion and the pickled onions are my fav. Had the Texas Trinity (ribs, brisket and a sausage link). The sides were a huge hit- the elote, broccolini and potato salad. Everything was fresh and Claire our server was very attentive and friendly. Great food, friendly service and fun atmosphere made for an excellent visit. Highly recommended!!! read more

The service was amazing! Our server made sure everything was great. He was super accommodating. That guy was also hilarious. Honestly the best server ever. I have a severe food allergy and the manager came to the table and reassured us. The food was quick to come out to us and it was delicious. We ordered the brisket it was tender and juicy. This place was not saved on my Yelp list, but it was on my Hilton dining club list. Positives Extensive menu! Plenty of meats, sides, and beverage choices. (Sodas, beer, cocktails). Super friendly service Indoor, outdoor, and bar seating Turkey sandwich also came with fries. Sandwich had a lot of meat. It was also very moist Plenty of parking I had a frozen cocktail that was excellent Room for improvement Elote was served so hot it burned my mouth (That's what lost the one star for me). Would I return? Absolutely! So many menu items that intrigued me. Also. Props to the staff. There were many parents with small children that were not watching their kids. Long overdue review! We had a birthday party for 50 people and ordered nearly everything! We had the salmon, brisket, beef ribs, St. Louis ribs, pork belly, wings, and the sausage ... Barbecue is nothing special. Firewater on the north end of town is significantly better. Service is super slow and online ordering is not reliable. It is such a shame that the problems from HB Jones days seem to have followed them in to this space. Although a convenient spot for us to dine at living nearby, we will travel elsewhere. read more

I'm surprised this place doesn't have more reviews!! Such a gem in elmhurst with easy parking but with city vibes! They have patio area that has heated lamps . It was middle of February and my kids insisted on sitting outside , and believe it or not it was warm enough to sit outside without your coat on due to the heat lamps. I wanted us to sit inside however, in their really cool glasshouse type of dining area. It's spacious with a bar and the workers were super friendly. Perfect place to bring people and watch a game. Came on Sunday for dinner and wasn't busy at all. You order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. For mains we got the brisket, nachos, and beef rib (I don't think they have the rib regularly). Really good quality and tender meat. Reminded me a lot of Terrys Blacks in Dallas TX. The elote and slaw were also phenomenal and a great price for only $5, and my kids loved the banana pudding. Love this spot and will be back. read more

I believe we have a new best burger in Elmhurst and it's the GB Double Burger. Double smash burger with pickled jalapeños and grilled onions. Cheese and spicy mayo finish it off. Fries were just ok, maybe go for other traditional bbq sides. Bottom line, it's the best burger in town and it's not even close. Have also had the barbecue here and it is good as well. So glad to see more Texas-inspired bbq joints popping up around the burbs!! GB sports quite a rustically pleasing greenhouse-esque interior with a full-service bar and plenty of outdoor seating as well. The staff could have not made me feel any more welcome by, first off, explaining how the menu works and even going the extra mile by asking if I wanted a refill on my water! This shows how thoroughly each and every team member has been trained to make this new joint feel like a home.. well done there!! Although "this ain't Texas" and certainly "ain't no hold 'em" either, GB may offer the closest experience to such. Their meats are the star of the show, while sides could use a little work (hence the 1-star deduction). The brisket, first off, had already fallen apart before attempting to consume (which is a good sign, I believe) except most of its moisture had been lost by then. Still packed plenty of prominently smoky flavor though. The jalapeño/cheddar link gave the perfect snap and a nice oozy cheesy filling on the inside, whereas the sticky pork belly had an on-point fat to meat ratio and amazing melt-in-your-mouth sensation. I would recommend adding the PB to their housemade nachos for an out-of-body trip to flavortown!! The smash burger was also a hit. I would like to return and try the lamb chops, which hopefully will not be sold out next time. For sides, I would highly recommend the broccoli salad, packing the perfect creamy, dilly punch from the dressing and a subtle burst of sweetness from the pickled golden raisins. The tater tot casserole contained tons of cheesiness and comfort; however, I was significantly bewildered by the sight of not one, but two rings of oil which sat amongst the concoction (one in the middle and one on bottom). Very off-putting and would taste better if the oil levels could be mitigated for future batches. The 'elotes' cannot really be called elotes, as perhaps 'hot fire-roasted corn salad' would be more appropriate. I still found this tasty, however. The coolness and creaminess was there in the banana pudding, but just shocked there was no Nilla Wafer topping. Most banana puddings I've had in the past have included this, which is what I feel would have truly perfected this one. Although there are notable areas for growth regarding GB's culinary showcase, I believe they are most certainly off to a great start. GB also has a considerable potential to foster community amongst Elmhurst and beyond (especially considering the live country music events scheduled on Thursdays). I am profoundly eager to see what the future holds for this newborn star of a smokehouse! read more

Just ate here for the second time and ordered the brisket sandwich and double cheeseburger to go. The brisket sandwich was a multitude of flavors from smoky to tangy with the barbecue and coleslaw with pickles on the sandwich. It was mouthwatering. I stopped in with my fiancé tonight for the first time. The service was super friendly and the vibe of the place was pretty awesome. I'm sad it was closed for a party, but we took food to go and we're not disappointed! the brisket was soooo tender, high quality, and delicious ... 9/10. The pulled pork sandwich was 9.5/10. What brought it over the top was the delicious bbq sauce ... the Mac and queso was ok ... I'd give it a 6/10. I really wanted to like this place! First time here and both the inside and outside look very nice. Got to ordering and we had an older grumpy guy taking our order who did not read it back to us after saying we ordered too much (surprise surprise he got the amount wrong) , when paying we forgot to ask for a receipt so we went back up not even 5 minutes later and mind you it was NOT busy, they claimed to have lost our order and did not give us a receipt. Overall the staff ruined the experience. Won't be returning since the food wasn't out of this world either, wrong order was given to us then when the actual food came out it was not hot, warm at best. read more

Brought my two little girls 6 and 4 they loved the smoked chicken wings and pork ribs, and I the same. The give you a lot of food at a fair price, definitely think it has to be the best in town. Service was friendly, and better than I expected typical BBQ decor. read more

While the atmosphere is nice, especially the outside, the concept and food leaves much to be desired. You order at the counter and pay there. Our food was ready about a minute after we paid for it! We ordered the beef brisket (very dry) Ribs were ok but also dry, Pork belly was tasty but could have had the fat rendered more. Menu doesn't indicate what the sauces contain, so needed to ask for details. The Mac and Queso was extremely dry as well as the Tator Tot side, which also had a strange taste, like sauerkraut? We tossed both of them. I understand these food items take a long time to cook, but they are obviously being stored too long or too hot which is reflected in the dryness of everything. We sat at the outside bar to have a drink and ordered everything to go. When you order a drink, the bartender sends the order to main bar inside and then it's delivered to the bar. Great atmosphere but the concept and food needs a lot of tweaking in our opinion, for this to work. We love to support local businesses and hoping they can make it work. Absolutely delicious BBQ! The brisket taco is my new fav item and they recently added cornbread. Everything was hot and fresh and I love the back room (you feel like you are outside!). We brought our friends there and they loved it, too. We all have kids and they ate the turkey and loved it. Wings were so tasty too! Outdoor patio is wonderful as well. Thought I'd try this new restaurant in Elmhurst, IL. Actually the pork meat itself was really really good. Unfortunately there are only 2 choices of BBQ sauce and I disliked both of them. This is a big miss on the restaurants part. There needs to be a minimum of 4 and 6 would be better. Not everyone wants spicy bbq sauce. The nacho's are good, love the the chips. Wish Golden Boy was consistent. I've been 4 times. Once was great: fantastic burger and waffle fries. The second time they ran out of burger patties so I ordered the wings which were okay but there is no good wing sauce on the menu. There are a ton of great barbecue spots in America, and the American South is well known for barbecue. You can now put Elmhurst Illinois on the BBQ map. I heard that Golden Boy Barbecue was a good place for Barbecue but that is like saying Augusta is a nice place to play golf. Once you walk in the door and take a whiff of that pungent barbecue smell you know your in a special place for BBQ. My wife and I ordered the Brisket and Ribs with a side of the Mac and Cheese. We were impressed. The rib meat was falling off the bones and dipped in the red vinegar barbecue made for a terrific opening to our meal. However the pièce de résistance of our meal was the brisket. Dipped in the aptly named Golden barbecue sauce it melted in our mouths like butter. We had a fantastic lunch at Golden Boy Barbecue and would highly recommend it as a destination if you love barbecue. read more

This is one of those "order at the counter, get your own stuff" kind of place. Vibes are off and the food did not make up for it. I thought I could just sit, and chill, have a margarita - but it was difficult to order drinks. There was way too much "self service" while you're also toting kids around. This place would crush if it was more of a "Jimmys Grill" kind of place. So many families can walk and bike there and it has an awesome patio.
