First time visit. Was a little turned off by the ambiance because the place is small and it was packed with people mostly waiting for pickup orders. But once it cleared out, the atmosphere was a little more pleasant. The service was great. Everyone helpful and friendly. I had the burnt ends. Most of them were perfect; a few were a little tougher, but overall very pleased. Was surprised by the bacon potato salad and smokey pit beans - this combination turned out great. Wife had the chili with burnt ends and was appreciative of how much meat there was. She did say the chili wasn't as hot (temperature) as she would have liked but she was taking most of it home and would get it as hot as needed. read more

Can't believe I have never been here before! And I drive past it all the time. Shame on me! Hahah Walked in and was greeted right away and had patiently waited to take our order. Your clothes will definitely smell like bbq after leaving, just FYI. Good thing I left my jacket in the car. Got the 2 meats, 2 sides. Ordered the brisket burnt ends and brisket, with fries and the mac bites. For the sauces we chose the butlers tribute & firebox. I absolutely loved the burnt ends. It had the perfect amount of fatness and meat. The brisket was also good, a little dry but it was good with the sauce. First time in went with the Rib tip w/fries. Customer service at front was fine and the food came out without any delay. Flavor was there, Good smoke, tips definitely had some good size bones so didn't have that chew thru tip grizzle's I'm personally looking for. But again the meat itself was Good. On top of a nice bed of fries. I look forward to returning and trying some more of the menu. Interior just fine and it's building that great aged smoked scent a good bbq house we all love. After all these years, their rib tips are still superior. The pound of rib tips and fries is enough for 2 people. It's a lot of food! The rib tips literally fall apart. I like tendons and these tendons are so tender and soft. The sauce is good too. There's a lot of fries and they don't get that soggy either. We got 1/2 lb of brisket too. It was a little dry, but it still pretty soft. The sauce we got was the firebox and it's sooo good! It's spicy too! But very well flavored. We got the corn and Cole slaw. The corn is pretty good. What an accidental surprise our Saturday turned into that led us to eating a Steamboat BBQ. My husband, myself and my best friend were trying to eat at another restaurant. When we got there it was a 45 minute wait and decided against waiting that long. My husband and best friend were craving red meat, so I suggested to potentially find a bbq place. They liked that idea. So pulled up Yelp, typed in bbq and we found steamboat. Without reading the reviews - we went which I'm glad! A lot of people are saying that you can't eat in the restaurant, but you can. There's just limited seating - very small area. Bar style seating. My friend got the 3 meat plate - brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. He loved everything. All the meat was so tender, and the ribs fell off the bone. He also got the brisket chili which he said was just ok. He loved the sides of beans and potato salad. My husband got the 3 meat plat as well - pulled pork, brisket, rib tips, potato salad and coleslaw. He also loved his meal and said how excited he was that we have such a great bbq restaurant so close to us! I had the 2 meat plate - pulled pork, brisket, southwest corn, and potato salad. DELICIOUS! Their bbq sauce is incredible! The meat was so tender, the southwest salad had a nice kick of heat to it, the potato salad is just so dang good. The bacon they had on special was also perfect. The sweet and savory combo was so satisfying. Their cornbread? YUM!!!!!!!! One of the best I've had! That's made with love :) The fried pickles - I wish they would make the seasoning less salty. The Cajun spices are SO GOOD!!!! But man after a handful you're getting the salt sweats. They have perfected the fried pickle by having the pickle thin enough with the batter that you can bite into it and the batter won't come off with your bite. Perfectly fried, perfect pickle choice, but i hope they consider changing up their spice mix to have less salt. That's the only reason I wouldn't order those consistently. I have been coming here for about six years now and it never disappoints. If you are looking for some mouthwatering BBQ - Steamboat BBQ is the place to go! The food here just melts in your mouth when you eat it - my personal favorite is go with the brisket and burnt ends - you cannot go wrong. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant smells heavenly with the scent of fresh BBQ. I also like that they give the option of purchasing larger portions of their barbeque sauces. My personal favorites are the butler's tribute and apple bourbon. The menu is a wide variety so there is defiantly a place where there is something for everyone. read more

This is a bit of a delayed review, but I felt it was absolutely needed to update.. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE?! The food was absolutely awful! First off, the fries tasted like they were fried in oil older than myself, they were inedible.. my partner spit them out when I made him try them. He got a pulled pork sandwich and he said it was underwhelming, I felt exactly the same about my brisket and the burnt ends.. there was zero flavor.. even adding their bbq (which for some reason all tasted basically the same?) didn't help. I ordered Cole slaw and it was warm and zero taste. I honestly thought I was getting COVID again bc nothing had flavor! From what I read there's new ownership from when I was here last and they're sinking this boat. I wish I had known this before, but you have to get the menu, order at the cash register, instead of ordering from a server. Nevertheless, the food did not disappoint. I shoulda' come here years ago! We love curbside pick-up. We ordered on line and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. I love the food we ordered. I chose the brisket sandwich with the potato salad. You choose which bbq sauce you want and it comes in a little cup with your order. I tried the apple bourbon bbq sauce. A very good sweet bbq sauce. IMO, minor tweak needed on the potato salad. Steamboat came highly recommended! I have a go to bbq place but I cheated to check this one out. I called to check to see if we needed reservations and was unimpressed with the tone that we received on the phone. I felt like a burden for calling. Not great. Upon arrival I understood the impatience with my questions. It was a no frills store front where reservation wouldn't be necessary. Nevertheless the attitude wasn't appreciated. The staff were attentive (mostly kids/college aged) and happy to help. The food: in a word amazing. Made up completely for any negative aspect of call. The Brisket was tender and tasty, the sides were on point! The ribs while small were great! The fried pickle basket was seasoned perfectly and came in a huge basket! I will preface this by saying we enjoy good BBQ all over the Chicagoland so I wanted to compare this one to the many others in the area. Also, for 4 years we lived in OKC and nearby Dallas, so we have truly been spoiled by the best BBQ. After living in the area now for 2 years and routinely hearing this establishment come up every time BBQ is mentioned, we went to check it out. I ordered the pork and my husband ordered the ribs and brisket. We picked a couple sides as well. I will say the pork was outstanding. The reason I could not give 5 stars is that the sides really do lack here. I usually order my BBQ with a side of mac and cheese, but Steamboat is the first BBQ place I have ever been to that does not even have it on the menu. I settled for the corn. It tasted straight from a can. Anyways, the corn left much to be desired. The ribs were good and the brisket was OK. I enjoyed the BBQ sauce very much. Steamboat would need to up their sides game to really compete. Kudos on having tasty pork and ribs, but not having sides that are worthwhile was a dealbreaker for me. We came here for lunch and ordered their brisket sandwich. Just like any other bbq joint, you order at the counter and they call your number when the food is ready. They have about about six tables so if you come at a busy time you may have trouble finding a table. The sandwich came with a side. We ordered three brisket sandwiches with three different sides so we can try a few. I ordered potato salad. It wasn't that great and wouldn't order it again. My wife ordered hers with corn and was also ok. Nothing special and I love corn. My son goth is with the bbq beans and were absolutely amazing. They had some generous portions of brisket inside the beans that made these beans some of the best beans I have ever tried. I will definitely order these beans next time I visit Streamboat. Now on to the good stuff. Their brisket sandwich. The brisket itself was perfectly smoked and juicy and would go well with any of their bbq sauces. It was very meaty with a few pieces of fat that's needed for that extra flavor They also give you a decent amount of meat, which makes the price worth it for a quick lunch.
