Steak on a Steak Kabob
Titan Z.

Greetings my Foodzies, yesterday we went to Brooster's's open hearth chicken at 434 22nd St in Lombard. It was a nice clean restaurant with counter ordering and expedited table service. Seating was a choice of table or booth. They had music from the 50s & 60s playing which was nice and since we were the only ones there we could hear it perfectly. We tried the steak sandwich with mashed potato and the steak on a stick with rice and coleslaw. The steak was cooked well but terribly under seasoned. I was surprised that since they had a vast grilling area that there was no char. The mash potatoes had a unique flavor, it tasted as if it was made with chicken broth. I enjoyed it that and the coleslaw was the highlight of the meal. I give this restaurant 2 stars. Give it a try if you desire and let me know what you think. Ciao Ciao for now.

Double leg double thigh with baked tater and beans. All very good and priced right

Very solid chicken joint off the beaten path of the Butterfield rd/ Cermak/ 22nd street corridor. Love the marinated grilled chicken and the sides. Order a chicken dinner and get two sides for just under ten bucks. I had the two legs two thighs plate and it was great. They actually gave me baked beans instead of the requested green beans which I decided not to complain about and just try them and now I'm a fan. Baked potato was great. Plenty of seating. Just order find a place to sit and they'll bring it to you. Silverware, not plastic. The service was friendly and I'll be back.

Broosters is one of those rare finds that would remain tucked away unless you did some wide-eyed searching. I have to admit, even if I had seen the Lombard location, I don't think I would have given it a try; its THAT inconspicuous. BUT, I'm seriously happy I did. Even if you had decided to walk into the joint, I don't think you'd feel like it was going to produce some b-o-m-b chicken. Its appearance is THAT modest. BUT, the chicken is not. I think the first thing you should do at Broosters is order the whole or half chicken...whatever you feel like you can put away. The flavor is absolutely amazing. Add that charbroiled essence to the mix to seal the deal. What we have in the end is an incredibly moist piece of chicken that hits the spot where it counts. The mashed potato and coleslaw side dishes parallel that of KFC. Texas toast is included with everything! **They have this salsa thats hidden in a white container that you MUST use...it changes everything!!**

1/2 chicken: Meal with 2 sides = $10.90ish with tax

At first, I was disappointed they didn't have Chicago Italian beef. So I asked what they would recommend, and the very polite lady behind the counter said, "You should try my meatball sub." I laughed and told her, "I don't know... my late grandma (100% Italian) made the best meatballs ever, but alright, let's do it." Then she asked, "Do you want peppers?" and of course my reply was, "Heck yeah!" She chuckled. When the sub came out, I have to say, it was huge. I sat down, took one quick smell and a bite... BOOM. I was instantly transported back to my grandma's kitchen, eating Saturday pasta and meatballs. I highly recommend checking this little gem out. The service, the atmosphere, and especially the food were all amazing. I definitely was not disappointed. P.S. Don't skip the desserts -- once again, absolutely amazing. I had the pimento dip, the 3 cheese breadsticks, and the baguette with fig spread and honestly considered canceling the rest of my day and just living there. The drinks absolutely held their own too. The Summer Spritz was crisp and refreshing, while the sangria came in with a polite smile and then quietly reminded me to respect it because wow, it was strong and delicious. Beyond the food and drinks, the whole place has this warm, beautiful French market vibe that feels cozy, elevated, and welcoming all at once. I ordered $40 worth of food which included the 1 hotdog meal which includes a drink, fries and the hotdog. The drinks have always been in a nice size Styrofoam cup, and today I got this 4 1/4 inch tall plastic child size cup for my 12 oz drink! I don't know when they changed their policy but they did ask me if I wanted it from the fountain or in the can. Since we were eating there, I said the fountain. When I went up to pick up my meal, I was stunned to see this tiny little child size plastic cup and said "what's this?" The Employee at the pick up window said this is a 12 oz drink. I said I don't think -so especially with all the ice you put in it. The employee said well if you didn't want ice, you should've told us no ice or get it in a can. That cup holds 12 oz. Again, I said "I'm sorry, but this isn't 12 oz of drink" and he replied "if you don't like it, you can go somewhere else"!!! I came home and measured it and yes, it holds 12 oz filled absolutely to the top -almost overflowing and NO room for ice. I probably got about 6 ounces of drink. Buyer beware.

Maybe it was just a bad day for them today, but it was less than expected. Went with my wife and son for lunch. The young lady at the counter seemed to be having a bad day, at least I hope she was, because if she's like that every day, she shouldn't be working there. She had attitude and was short with us. It wasn't anything she said, but rather, the abruptness with her questions and overall demeanor. If we ordered anything on the side, or asked for something different than what usually comes on a sandwich, she huffed and eye rolled us. It didn't make us feel very welcome. We got a number and sat down and waited. When our food arrived, we were short one soda and a side of vinegar and oil. No worries there. I was taken back a little that we were charged 50 cents for water, $2.50 for one slice of Gouda cheese, and 50 cents for an oil and vinegar cup. There is also a 3% charge for using a credit card. The actual food was better before. My combo sandwich was somewhat bland. I remember the hot dog being bigger before. It went from a deli hot dog to a regular sized one. My wife thought the turkey burger was bigger before as well. Overall, I remember it being more flavorful in the past. My potato salad was still very good. The cannoli pieces were outstanding. The place was fairly crowded being Mother's Day, and the service was pretty quick. Turkey burgers take a while to cook. It's always lively but quiet in the restaurant which I like. I hope this was a one time dud experience, and I will be back, unless the cashier has another bad day, and the food is lacking taste.

We ordered half biscuits and gravy, stuffed French toast, and sweet hot fried chicken and waffles. I'm not quite sure why my half order of biscuits and gravy took about 22 mins to make. It was faster at other places. They were good, not amazing. We received the main entrees a few minutes later. They were huge portions. I got my fried chicken on the mild side because I didn't know how spicy they make it. The mild version was still good. They were easy to cut and tangy. The waffles were firm but soft. The stuffed French toast was loaded with cream cheese inside and I like the generous amount of fresh fruit. Overall, the experience is like a solid 4.
