We've been going to Flips in Glen Ellyn for over 40 years and love the food and convenience of this place but today I was dumbfounded. I ordered $40 worth of food which included the 1 hotdog meal which includes a drink, fries and the hotdog. The drinks have always been in a nice size Styrofoam cup, and today I got this 4 1/4 inch tall plastic child size cup for my 12 oz drink! I don't know when they changed their policy but they did ask me if I wanted it from the fountain or in the can. Since we were eating there, I said the fountain. When I went up to pick up my meal, I was stunned to see this tiny little child size plastic cup and said "what's this?" The Employee at the pick up window said this is a 12 oz drink. I said I don't think -so especially with all the ice you put in it. The employee said well if you didn't want ice, you should've told us no ice or get it in a can. That cup holds 12 oz. Again, I said "I'm sorry, but this isn't 12 oz of drink" and he replied "if you don't like it, you can go somewhere else"!!! I came home and measured it and yes, it holds 12 oz filled absolutely to the top -almost overflowing and NO room for ice. I probably got about 6 ounces of drink. Buyer beware. read more

This is a place you can bring your hotdog loving kid and you husband who wants an Italian beef and you can enjoy a Village Salad. It's counter service like a hotdog place would normally be. I had a Village Salad with a side of slouvlaki chicken and my husband had a roast beef sub. The large salad really serves 2 people so I was able to enjoy it two days. I went to Pita Pita Mediterranean restaurant and found out they didn't have gyros - - the manager strongly recommended that I go to Flip's in Glen Ellyn. It was worth the trip we had to travel a lot better than we used to. I live in Bloomingdale and we usually find places to eat that are 8 to 10 minutes away. We got there I knew what I was getting right away. My friends had to think about it for a while because they had so many different things on the menu--BBQ Ribs, Italian Beef, Souvlaki Chicken or Pork, and more. The dinners were about $20 each--but it was worth every penny--each serving included a Greek Salad, Seasoned Potatoes, and the main entree. I ran into a guy who also recommended the Gyros. My two friends both ordered the Souvlaki Chicken. The chicken was on two skewers. Both of them took home doggy bags because it was a lot of food! Service was great-- the staff was friendly and, even though the customers were to pick up the food themselves, a guy named "Will" helped me by carrying the meals to our table. It appeared that a tip was not expected. As far as ambiance, the dining area was relatively small. There were both seats and chairs, but they also offered outdoor dining. I often judge a restaurant by the condition of their rest rooms. They only had one co-ed bathroom and it needed much attention--unclean and the toilet was clogged with toilet paper. What can I say about Flips that hasn't been set already. They have a very large menu and everything on the menu is very good. I like during hard times they have a savings program where they give you money off your bill at the register depending on how much money you spent. They send you texts of their sales every month or shall I say specials which which sometimes makes up your mind where you're gonna go for lunch by seeing this ad I go there at least two different times a month. The guy that was taking my order over the phone was very unprofessional and hung up the phone on me. I order a Mediterranean dinner and asked him not to put the cup with the dressing inside the plate of food. I think it's unsanitary and disgusting... They're currently having a BOGO offer. Called in my order, when I got there the line was 7 deep. Stepped to the pickup window and they couldn't seem to find my order. Needed to get back in line to pay. Cashier made my shake and proceeded to wait for my order. After the numbers being called were after mine, I stepped back up. He had some of my order on the shelf? He nearly forgot about the cheese cup and the root beer. Once we got home noticed that he forgot a fries, after I went over the order twice! Disappointed and Disheartened at Flips in Glen Ellyn Well, I guess Flips in Glen Ellyn decided to flip the script on compassion and common sense today. A woman who's been a regular there was denied service...not because of anything dramatic but because she had her 3-pound Yorkie, Jax, with her. Jax isn't exactly Cujo; he's a licensed service animal, tiny enough to fit in a purse, and far more polite than most humans I've seen at brunch. Here's the kicker: this wasn't her first visit. She's brought Jax before without issue. So either the staff suddenly forgot Illinois law regarding licensed service animals... or they've decided that empathy and awareness aren't on the menu anymore. Look, maybe they're just genuinely unaware that denying access to someone with a documented service animal is not only heartless but also legally questionable. Ignorance of the law might not be bliss, but apparently, it's the house special. If Flips doesn't "believe in" service animals, that's cute ...but unfortunately, federal law isn't faith-based. Here's hoping they take a moment to educate themselves before flipping off another loyal customer and her tiny, well-behaved dog. read more

The beefs are very good, better than most/all of the chains. The burgers are good enough to compete with the chains that specialize in good burgers (meaning, I really like them) Had a triple yesterday.. might go for the quad next time. I still haven't tried the Gyro's but they look great (for some reason, I always want a beef or a burger when I go there) The fries are sometimes very good and sometimes ok, It all comes down to freshness. Sometimes my fries are piping hot and sometimes lukewarm... yesterday was a lukewarm day. You know what's great? Their portions.. the regular fry is ample.. I always get the large, but I really like to treat myself. I'd do 5 stars for sure if they could figure out the fry thing. I'd still prefer "fresh cut" fries, but their regular cut fries are really tasty when they're hot. They have an awesome menu. There's so much to take in.. it's just fun. Also, they totally fixed the sign, looks great! Parking is always easy. It's pretty much a don't miss place.. if you like this kind of food (you know, like a normal person) If you are going down the street to Buona.. you are missing out.. the beefs are better at Flips and while the fries are similiar.. the value is all Flips! On the burger front.. the same thing can be said about That Burger Joint (also down the street).. Flips.. better burger.. and the fries are a preference thing.. My quest to find the best gyros in the area continues... I was nearby and didn't have a ton of time and had never been so I stopped in for takeout. They have a nice size outdoor patio and plenty of seating inside. It's much like your typical beef stand anywhere in the Chicago area. order at the counter and they make it quickly while you wait. I was greeted immediately by the friendly cashier and perused the menu. They have a quite a lot of choices - Italian beef, hotdogs, burgers, sausage, gyros, subs, and salads, so you get more variety here than some other places. There are also a few specialty items on the menu - I loved that they had corresponding pictures and descriptions underneath to explain what each one was. I recommend coming in once or twice before you order to-go or for delivery. I settled on the 'maxed out gyros' which was an extra portion of meat plus an additional pita as I was bringing home to share with my kid. I also ordered a large fry, ($5!) but after studying the menu a little longer, I could've got a meal with a Drink for about the same price. Live and learn. It was a good portion of fries. I munched on them the whole way home and had plenty left over. I would say they are a cross between McDonald's and Portillo's style. They were hot and fresh. I believe they use Kronos gyros so they are high-quality, and there was plenty to share. We each made a fat sandwich and there was extra tzatziki in the box. Quality of the gyros was top notch, the tomatoes were bright, red and juicy, and the tzatziki was thick and delicious, I was out the door for $21 and we were both stuffed! If it were a little closer, this would definitely be in my regular rotation, but when I'm in the area, I am definitely going to stop in again and try out some other other fun creations! they have a "meat mountain" that I need to get to the bottom of....Definitely recommend... read more

If you want a solid meal that comes out hot and quick every time, Flips is your place. I wake up in the morning and immediately crave the chicken philly bowl. Had a gyro and small Greek salad today. Perfectly crisp salad, quite plentiful. The gyros was perfect and quite large, stuffed with meat. Best white sauce I have come across. Finished it off with some baklava, spectacular. All prices fairly. These guys are consistently solid. Many other comparable joynts are not as good. Parking on the side of the building had some cars, but then I seen the line almost out the door to the place, and was like this place has to be good! And guess what, it was! Once again, I come in and I have stuff missing out of my order just like before. I'm really tired of giving these places chances and the prices are sky high and the service and the food quality has gone way down. So I got a couple dogs and fries and a tamale bowl and fries I have been getting the tamale boat for years. It looked really weird today I took a bite into it. It was cold, ICE COLD first of all and I just got it The other person in my party is like don't be a Karen and just eat it. I'm like right I just got it and it's ice cold and it tastes like crap I would rather go get some thing else that I'm actually going to eat. I did pay for it then I took a bite of the chili alone I'm thinking why does this taste so weird so I start digging around..... this isn't the same chili that they've been using you know when you vomit because you've had too much to drink and that taste is in your throat. That's what this chili tasted like. I don't know how else to describe it it's that bad! when I went up to get my missing items I asked them did you guys change your chili because it tastes completely different and they said yes we did. How do you like it? It's homemade now I'm said whatever you were using before was better this one is horrible and they asked why don't you like it? I went with my daughter to purchase dinner. We spent $52.00 .I had taste my fries and they were old and not hot. So I went back I told the lady at the registered she told me to go down to the end. I told the young man with glasses and a beard that my fries were cold and old. So he replace them with hot fries. He ask me if I needed some ketchup I said no I told him I was checking to see if I had all 4 bags of fries. He said to get the hell out. I guess he didn't think I heard him but I did. My feelings was hurt I been coming here since I was 15 yrs old .I'm 66 my family loves flips I own my own catering business. I believe I don't serve anything that I won't eat. Horrible experience. Owner/manager is clueless on customer service. Checked website for hours for Friday. Open until 9 pm. Arrived at 7:15. Stood in line for 30 minutes. Received food and went to sit and eat and we're told to leave the premises. Workers had been on "there feet for hours " and we needed o leave. Seriously? I'm speechless!
