I've passed by here SO MANY TIMES and recently decided to pop in because I wanted a pizza puff...I left with much more LOL Also tried the Grecian chicken, souvlaki combo (chicken and pork), and rib tips. I'm writing this review to make customers--and hopefully the owner of Nick's Red Hots--aware of a very serious issue involving staff behavior. I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years, visiting about three times a month, and I always order the same thing: the Famous Chicken Gyro (#14, no tomatoes) with a fresh, made-to-order sack of fries. Until now, I have never had a problem. On 12/15 at approximately 5:10 PM, I came in and ordered my usual and dined in. When I bit into the gyro, after getting past the honey mustard, the chicken was hard, crusty, and completely dried out--clearly overcooked from sitting too long on the rotisserie. While disappointing, I didn't make a big deal out of it. I finished my fries, which were still hot and fresh, and calmly showed the cashier the gyro. I spoke quietly and respectfully and explained that the chicken wasn't good. She was polite and said they would remake it. I thanked her several times and explained that I normally don't complain, but I was hungry and on a short lunch break. I asked if I could take the replacement to go since I was running late. As I grabbed my jacket and returned to the counter, I overheard the cashier telling the two cooks something along the lines of, "It's not like that--he's a nice guy and comes here all the time." I took this as her trying to explain that I wasn't trying to get free food, just that the gyro had been poorly prepared. When I returned to work and opened the replacement gyro, I was shocked. There was a broom bristle placed inside the chicken gyro, hidden under a large amount of honey mustard. I have spent a significant amount of money at this business over the years, and I am beyond angry and disappointed. Putting what appears to be a dirty broom bristle--used to clean floors--into a customer's food is unacceptable, unsanitary, and malicious. Because of how this was handled and how I was treated, I will never return. I am filing complaints and sharing this experience publicly so others are aware. This is not about a bad gyro--it's about employee behavior and food safety, and I hope ownership takes this seriously. read more

Simply delicious! After passing by Nick's so many times. We decided to go there after the last Trick or Treaters stopped by. It was a little late, so you always think it's a hit or miss. Wow, We were wrong. Everything we ordered was a winner. Cooked to perfection that had our taste buds jumping with excitement. We ordered Chicken Gyro / Fries and Chicken Breast Dinners. Family really enjoyed our dinner. Looking forward to trying other dishes on the menu. That's another thing... The Menu. So many items to choose from. There is something for everyone. Overall (A) This place is a perfect neighborhood restaurant for ribs, burgers,gyros, etc. and a great alternative to Portillo's. Food (A) The food is really good here and made to order. I would recommend the ribs. The dinner is a bit pricey but it is really good. The gyros are really good and a great value. Pro tip the baked potato and coleslaw are great sides and the garlic bread will exceed expectations . Service (A) Friendly and fast. The owners and family work the location every day and it shows by that high quality of service. They have a number of guys working in the back and get the food out fast. I have never had a bad experience with service with them. When my kids were younger they would give them occasional free desserts. This won us over and we have been very loyal to them. Value (A-) It's a not a value and it's not expensive but leaning towards the pricey side. Would like to see more specials. But I get it with the economy. Note they are not expensive and still a great experience. Go and try this place out. Whether it is a burger or ribs or salad or gyros or another menu item you won't be disappointed I wish they were open on Sundays so I could order more frequently from them and introduce them to others read more

Stopped in on a Saturday night at 6 pm. We ordered a gyros and a steak sandwich combo. First things first...gentleman at the register gave us plenty of time to decide on what we wanted. It's always a huge plus to me when people don't push you to order when it's obvious you need time to decide. So kudos there! The food came out quickly. Also a big thumbs up there. The steak sandwich was very good. The gyros was just ok. The meat was on the dry side, and it was not hot. There was a ton of gyros meat...almost too much. I couldn't even pick up the sandwich, and it was impossible to get a bite with meat, tomatoes, onion, and sauce together. Maybe some people think more is better, but to me, I'd rather have less if it means I can eat what I ordered in the way it was meant to be eaten. Now for the biggest issue. The fries. They were ice cold, and it was obvious they had been fried, refried, and possibly refried again. They were dark dark brown...and just totally saturated in oil. I mean, they were totally disgusting to look at, and they tasted even worse. Shame on them for even letting them out of the kitchen! The booth we sat in was completely torn. At least tape it up. I drove 15 miles and wasted $10 on a gyro from Nick's Red Hots and it was AWFUL. The gyro meat was SUPER DRY and BURNT. How could you serve this garbage to someone. This was the second time it happened at the same location. I'm very disappointed!!!!! Will not be going back there. read more

A decent grilled chicken Caesar wrap. Good flavor. I was hesitant to order because the pic of the wrap online looked like it didn't have lettuce in it but you can clearly see here that it does. Smelled good inside when I was picking up my order so will probably give their gyros a try next time I'm around. read more

I used the drive-thru on Friday 11/1 around 6:30. I had a taste for a gyro and Nick's has always had good gyros in the past. Unfortunately, it was not their day. 1. The pita bread seemed microwaved to soften it up and then when it cooled down it became hard and tough to chew. Bad 2. The lack of meat was shocking, especially for $10. Really Bad 3. There was just one large piece of tomato, and it was warm and mushy. Gross 4. The tzatziki sauce was delicious. Too bad it was wasted on this sandwich. 5. The fries were hot and crispy. I ordered three dinners over the phone and expected to pay $38 for the food. When I arrived to pick up the food, the bill was $51 they said that the online prices were not their own and were not nice about it. The website that gave me the prices was their website, including their address, phone number etc. If it wasn't so late in the evening I would've walked out. When I told my wife about my experience, she said that's the place that did the same thing to you a year ago. This is a scam they are pulling on people daily. STAY AWAY..!! read more

Gyro and fries were wonderful . Service was quick. The place was spotless. The the place was relatively quiet.

The gyros here are solid. The meat is nicely seasoned and they give you enough to fill the pita - that's it. Don't expect to have a pita that runneth over. In addition to the tasty gyros, their Greek potatoes are worth trying, they're quite good. The service here is usually quick and cordial. I have yet to find a better gyros in the immediate area. Now, beware of the parking lot. This place is located within a hodgepodge of strip malls. There's many twists and turns and it can be a bit confusing if you're new. read more

Service was very efficient, several of us ate in but ordered some take out for a co worker & the lady at the counter had it ready as we were leaving. Always been a Nicky's fan, errrr, Nick's Red Hots fan. My go to meal is always the Chicken Gyro special with the cucumber sauce and not the honey mustard. Although I do enjoy the Julienne Salad on occasion. The fries are always nice and hot. The people are friendly and the combo meals seem to provide a decent value. I usually dine in, but going through the drive through, expect a wait as everything is cooked up fresh. My vote, order ahead and just run in and pick it up. read more

My family has always been a fan of Nick's even when they went under the moniker of Nicky's. They have something for everybody. Their food is all scratch cooking.. from the homemade soups to their rib dinner or fresh gyros platters. Their food is crave-able and we visit their to feed the need. I have never had opportunity to try their dessert as we never have room due to their generous portions. Me and my mom came here and she had the jumbo shrimp and she couldnt even finish it all it was a good and very well cooked meal and she said it was amazing she would come here again and i would too. I had the 2 hotdogs and fries meal it was delicious the fries were good and so were the hotdogs. Me and my dad and his wife always come here too this place is amazing and very clean. After today's visit, I have to bump them up to a 4.5 star. They have a great jumbo chili cheese char dog. I usually get a gyros here. I deducted a half star for not having the Cubs game on their channel lineup. Friendly staff and a great value is the norm. I'll have to keep them in the loop and try their rib tips sometime. read more

Poor food handling. I plan to contact the department of health after this review. The food prep area was dirty and ALL the cooks were handling the food without any gloves. I observe cooks touch their face, grabbing rags and door handles ect them picking up people food with out any hand protection... nasty as hell , this is very unacceptable .. I've been coming here off and on for four (4) years now. The food has always been good. Today's order was a bit eventful, but forget all that. I ordered a chicken sandwich for me and a Gyro for Virginia to go. When we got home I had the good pleasure of eating one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. First...the bun was so moist (but not soggy) and tasty. When you're holding a chicken sandwich, you have to have bun big enough not to be overcome by chicken, lettuce, tomato and mayo. The chicken was grilled to perfection, done but moist. I asked Virginia how she would rate her Gyro on a scale of 1 - 10, 10 being best. She said, "Ten (10), it was the best Gyro I've ever had." Of course, I got a taste. Delicious. Well done to the staff at Nick's. You can please even the most demanding of customers. read more

In driving down Route 59 just a little over a week ago with a friend of mine in the passenger seat I heard a quick yell of "TURN RIGHT THERE ITS A HOT DOG PLACE". While it was too late for me to make that turn I doubled back and discovered a Nicky's Red Hots sitting right at the far end of the parking lot nearby Fox Valley Mall. Having visited the Nicky's in Naperville off of Ogden I had an idea of what to expect when visiting and soon discovered the menu, and even general look inside are very similar. I placed an order for my hot dog and sat down, just a few minutes later it was ready and sitting in a basket for me. The first thing to notice about this hot dog was the pickle. The pickle here was every bit as thick as the hot dog itself. It was sour and messy and not at all a good compliment to a sandwich where the meat is supposed to be the main ingredient. There were two sloppy tomato slices on top of the hot dog, these were cut farily long but were fairly wet causing the bun to be mushy. Speaking of the bun, it was a regular non-poppy seed bun was that was a tad soggy from the condiments and juices from the giant fruits and vegetables applied to this hot dog. The application of mustard and relish was fine, there was no sign of celery salt, nor was there any sport peppers. The big question with this mess, was how did it taste. Well... it didn't taste like a hot dog. This is quite frankly the worst example of giant pickle overpowers the rest of the hot dog flavors I've ever seen. The menu should pretty much say "pickle on a hot dog bun comes with tomatoes, onions, relish, mustard and a hot dog". This was a pickle sandwich not a hot dog. This is a one star hot dog at its worst. read more

Nicky's is a good lunch spot in the land of chain establishments. Hopefully the parking lots leading into their lot are patched soon as it's a land mine with all of the potholes. I've been going to the Ogden Avenue original location since I moved to Naperville 17 years ago and it is always good. This location is o.k.-menu is not as expansive, and I don't feel the value as much as I have at the other location (portions are decent here). Good burgers (patty melt) and traditional Greek quick service sandwich fare-gyros (chicken and lamb/beef), souvlaki (pork or chicken) and the Greek potatoes are the side to get (fries are average at best). This is a good lunch spot, but for some reason just doesn't deliver the way the original does. read more

Great place!  Stopped in recently and ordered a their half slab of ribs combo with a cup of soup.  Their cream of chicken soup is excellent!!   Probably the better of cream of chicken soup in the area.  Ribs, fries, and garlic bread were very good as well!  Place was clean and staff were friendly.  I feel bad that I've driven by thier restaurant for several years and never stopped in.  Will definitely be back!! Update: changing my previous rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. I stopped by last week, they were well organized, reasonably priced, and each of our family orders were generous in portion size. Disappointing on most fronts. First, the gyro I ordered was below average. When I get a gyro, I like when the meat has both crispy and charred parts, from the outside, and juicy and tender parts, from the inside. All of the meat was just soggy and greasy, yuch. When I asked for "heavy on the sauce," they gave me a tiny container of extra sauce and charged me 60 cents for it. Second, I asked if I could substitute a Greek potato for the fries and they said NO. They said that if I wanted them, I would have to buy a separate order. Seriously? At $10.50 for a combo? I don't think so. Third, the ice tea was nasty, clearly made from a mix and, by the taste of it, an old one. At least it was cold and had plenty of ice. Finally, the drive-thru cashier had some major attitude and verged on being just plain rude. Ironically, the item that I wanted to change, the fries, turned out to be the only good part of the meal. I certainly will not be returning to this place, as there are several better and more reasonably priced gyros places in the area. read more

Another great find- another Nicky's in Aurora!! We were in this area and my husband mentioned there was another one somewhere by the mall so we decided to check it out! I had a tuna melt- which was yummy! The Greek potatoes not as good as the Nicky's on Ogden! More lemon and seasoning would be an improvement! But not bad! I tried their baklava- YUMMY!! I can't believe the audacity of the employees in this place. I come to nicks and or nickys all the time but after today I don't even know how to feel. I ordered the burger meal and am told it will be one moment, so I go to the bathroom and when I come out I come out to the manager and two employees looking at me with the biggest smiles and I'm a little confused. So then my meal if finally ready so I say thank you and sit down. And when I'm almost done with my burger an employee comes out and him and the manager ar just looking at me laughing looking away speaking Spanish but get this. IM HISPANIC I JUST LOOK WHITE and I kid you not he says "can't believe we gave it to him" and the manger has the nerve to say "well he's gonna eat it anyway" like what?!?!??! I'm still here and I'm wondering whether or not I should cause a scene or double back. Don't come here if you are worried about germs cause some place have respect for things like that and others don't and this place definitely doesn't. read more
