Great spot great food &I I have tried 4 of the sandwiches & they're fire last the owners great people

So I was on an architectural survey and wanted something good and local. Since I'm from Columbus, where the food can be pretty meh, I figured I'd give this place a shot because the reviews were great. At first, I was disappointed they didn't have Chicago Italian beef. So I asked what they would recommend, and the very polite lady behind the counter said, "You should try my meatball sub." I laughed and told her, "I don't know... my late grandma (100% Italian) made the best meatballs ever, but alright, let's do it." Then she asked, "Do you want peppers?" and of course my reply was, "Heck yeah!" She chuckled. When the sub came out, I have to say, it was huge. I sat down, took one quick smell and a bite... BOOM. I was instantly transported back to my grandma's kitchen, eating Saturday pasta and meatballs. I highly recommend checking this little gem out. The service, the atmosphere, and especially the food were all amazing. I definitely was not disappointed. P.S. Don't skip the desserts -- once again, absolutely amazing. So this place had been on my radar for a bit since I seen an IG post featuring them. Well, I wish it tasted as good as it looked. I will say, they appeared to use quality meats and ingredients on their sandwiches but the Fat Joe that I had was tasteless. The meat had some flavor but the dressing they use (I think it was just straight olive oil) did not tie everything together on the sandwich like other Italian sandwiches from other shops. Mustard (which would be wrong on a sandwich like this) or mayo would have pulled some flavor and tied everything together better. Outside of the blandish sandwich, the thing that really threw me off were the prices that were charged did not match the digital menu board they have. 4 sandwiches, 2 slices of pizza (which was tasty) and 6 drinks ( water bottles and cokes) was almost $100.00 and was about $20-$25 more than what it would have come to based on the menu board pricing. Shame on me for not questioning it as I should have paid better attention than just handing them the credit card. I would say if the sandwich blew me away, I could accept the cost a little more, but it's just not worth it in my opinion. Service was good and staff which I think were the owners and their son were very friendly and helpful. Cute little deli in VP. I ordered the ricotta stuffed pizza, it was just ok. My daughter got a salami sandwich that looked pretty decent. I kind of wish they had more options because I'm not big into Italian subs/hams but that would be my only recommendation. After passing this place many times, decided to stop in. Ordered 2 sandwiches, Fat Joe and the meatball. The Fat Joe had fresh ingredients but was void of EVOO or any type of dressing. They must of missed it. It was somewhat dry, but still pretty good. Could have been better with the EVOO. The meatball sandwich was good. Mortadeli opened up earlier this year and unfortunately it's taken me forever to try them out. But finally today was the day, I'm here and honestly I regret not coming sooner because my lunch was absolutely fantastic. I ordered Mama's Meatball Sub with a side of their creamy mac n'cheese with a soda on the side and let me tell ya, this hit the spot!!! The Sub was great, the sauce was thick, sweet, full of flavor. The meatballs seasoned thoroughly and cooked to perfection. The bread was fresh We're talkin about a superior meatball Sub here, not that trash you find at Subway. Mac N'cheese was on point. You can tell by the quality and taste that Mortadeli uses premium cheeses and ingredients in the preparation of their food. It's definitely worth revisiting if you enjoy good food. I ate outside their shop right in the heart of Villa Park. It's peaceful outside, it kinda gives you vibes of old Taylor Street which makes for a very comforting atmosphere. read more

This place was good. I got there before they opened so I ended up having someone else go back. I got an Italian, which I split with my bud and it was good. The balsamic glaze was a different touch. Since I didn't go back to get the food, I'm not certain how the service was or the pricing. But I'm sure it was fine. From the looks of the place on the outside it looks small. If I could give zero stars I would but unfortunately you have to give something in order to post a review. Very disappointing experience. First, we were turned away from their lounge bar because they were supposedly having a private party, even though the sign clearly said open. No explanation or apology was offered. Later, at the food counter, I watched the owner handle cash with gloves on and then immediately make my sandwich without washing his hands or changing gloves. That is a serious food safety concern. When I was clearly uncomfortable, the attitude was rude instead of professional. Between the misleading "open" signage, poor cleanliness, and rude behavior, I won't be returning. read more

Had the veggie sandwich and my wife had the turkey sandwich. Both were very tasty. I thought the veggie had premium ingredients- a good pesto and a really good tomato focaccia. The mozzarella was fresh. I was short on time and was worried how quick it would be. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. The prices weren't too bad for what you get.
