So glad we happened to be in the area and tried this place for lunch. The restaurant has a very Japanese feel to it. You place your order on the tablet, there is just one guy working in there who makes the food and places it on the counter. The decor is simple and just right. The food is the best food ever! I had the rice paper wrap with tofu in it. I could only eat half as I was so full. The seasoning on the fries is so good.. and the cucumber salad was top notch. Even the drinks in the cooker area were very interesting that I had never seen before. It's very clear that this is a very well thought out restaurant. The only feedback I would give is to add a couple of options for vegan gluten free in the menu. My wrap had to be customized and communicating with the chef was a bit of a challenge due to language. read more

Zenwich - Tasty Food, Lacking Warmth My family and I recently visited Zenwich and tried a little bit of everything--two sandwiches and two rice bowls. Let's start with the good: the sandwiches were delicious, with standout bread that really elevated the meal. While I wouldn't go out of my way to make a special trip just for them, they were definitely enjoyable and well-executed. The rice bowls earned a solid 7.5 from my husband and son. Flavorful and filling, but maybe missing that little extra something to make them truly memorable. Where Zenwich unfortunately fell flat was the customer service. We visited around 5 PM on a Friday and there was only one person working. Not only were we not greeted when we walked in, but we stood at the counter for several minutes without even being acknowledged. I even saw another customer politely thank the staff member after asking for a napkin, and he didn't so much as look up in response. It left the whole experience feeling impersonal. If the service matched the quality of the food, this would've easily been a four-star visit. With just a bit more effort in the hospitality department, Zenwich could really shine. read more

Came here for YELP event. Could only order online or in person. Could not order over phone for event that offered free sandwich and fries. Online did not have option for event such as a promo code. Poor planning on Yelp's part probably. Would have liked to have known that I could only order in person for event deal. Fun sandwiches, food overall was good. read more

I go here just for the truffle fries. My family members all have to get their own because the fries are too good to share. Sandwiches are good, not a big fan of the basil crab cake. Excited that they're offering bowls now, they are big and filling, but the brisket teriyaki one wasn't my favorite so I'm looking forward to trying the others. It's a small place with just one worker on staff who is nice, but always seems overwhelmed since it's just him. Takes a while to get your food since it's only him preparing everything and taking orders. read more

SO GOOD!!! We had the garlic lemon chicken on ciabatta and crab cake as a rice paper wrap, along with the sweet & spicy fries and sea salt fries. All was delicious, prepared quickly, and will definitely be back. read more

A chill spot to take a friend. Met Chai at the register while using the order screen. Asked if they still served potato chips and he tossed me a bag, no charge? My friend and I split 2 Spicy Garlic Shrimps, one on Ciabatta, the other in Rice Paper. My non-adventurous friend couldn't deal with rice paper but, enjoyed the sandwich bread. I was surprised by the still-hot shrimp in the wrap but, not over-cooked. The aioli sauce added just the right amount of "sweet & spicy". The seasoned fries were perfectly crispy with a hint of sweet, BBQ seasoning. We're planning weekly visits from now on. Try it for yourself and you'll be pleasantly surprised as well. read more

Was pretty bummed when their two other locations closed down as those were more convenient for me to get to and had been craving their garlic shrimp for a while when I realized that I was pretty close to Elmhurst yesterday. I put in an an order and was happy that the original location makes their spicy garlic shrimp rice wrap just as plump and good as the others did. The greens, flash fried shrimp, spicy aioli and quinoa is such a perfect mixture. Ordered online using through their website around 6:30pm and the food was ready to go in the 10 mins it took for me to get there. Staff was nice and I even got to use points that I had saved through Toasttab to get $5. Although I'd love for another one to open closer to me again, I am glad that there is still at least one Zenwich around. read more

Delicious sandwiches and service ! Definitely a re-do and try everything on the menu!

Had a delicious sandwich at Zenwich in Elmhurst. The Spicy Garlic Shrimp sandwich was really delicious. The convocation of baby urugula, cilantro and garlic with sweet and spicy aoli is perfect. The sandwich I had, contained 8 lightly Battered Shrimp. My sandwich was packed. Will definitely return here again! read more

Zenwich lives up to all the hype that surrounds it. It's such a unique sandwich spot with an incredible menu, and delicious flavors! There's some indoor seating but I ordered for takeout and got the chicken teriyaki katsu sandwich, chicken and veggie gyoza, and seasoned fries. The sandwich was so delicious! The chicken was crispy and juicy and the sauce and toppings were so flavorful. The sandwich is more on the sweet side so I took some Sriracha on the side and it was a perfect bite every single time The gyozas were super yummy and were topped with a cole slaw salad. Once again, so so delicious and filling! The fries were my favorite! We got the seasoned fries which had a lovely flavor to them but they also have truffle fries, which I definitely want to try next time!! If you're in the area and craving a sandwich, think no more! Try this place and you won't be disappointed! read more

Absolutely, pleasantly surprised! I am so glad we were able to try out this place. Had such a good experience, from the ordering to the taste of the food. You're able to order any of the options as a bowl, wrap or sandwich. I also ordered seasoned fries and was able to try the milk tea and thai salad. The food was utterly delicious! My bowl was so fresh, with a punch of slaw, crispy chicken and tang of the dressing. I absolutely loved it. The thai salad was also very fresh and perfect for a summer lunch and the fries were crispy and slightly spicy. We also got to speak to the owner while we were there and he is so friendly, sharing his story of opening up zenwich and treating all his customers with so much respect. I truly enjoyed this experience and plan to be back when I'm in the area! read more

I can't believe that we had never had a sandwich from Zenwich before. We have really been missing out on some delicious sandwiches. Not only were they delicious, but, they did not skimp on the ingredients. In fact, the sandwiches were stuffed. The flavours together compliment the sandwiches, and both had We had the 2 most popular sandwiches: The Spicy Garlic Shrimp sandwich with Lightly Battered Shrimp (there were 8 in the sandwich), Baby Urugula, Cilantro and Garlic with Sweet and Spicy Aoli The Mu Ping sandwich with Grilled Caramelized Pork, Shredded Carrot, Cucumber, Red Onion, Jalapeno and Cilantro with homemade tangy sweet aioli. Both sandwiches were really delicious, stuffed with plenty of ingredients, and great tasting. We also both had a Boba Tea that was really refreshing and tasted great! The owner was so nice, he gave us a bag of homemade chips and a cucumber salad. Even though the restaurant is plain with very little seating space, I cansee went locals love this place! read more

When I first arrived, I wasn't sure how we were going to order. There was only one person working so they did their best, but couldn't tend to people right away. They were nice and helpful, but it took a little while and they seemed like they were in a rush. I guess they were closing early since they told customers that walked in that they're closing even though it was almost an hour early. The boba was tasty. It was not too sweet, it was perfect for my taste. The seasoned fries were crunchy with a bit of a kick which I liked. I chose to try the chicken katsu sandwich. It was okay. The chicken was crispy, but I felt like the sandwich was a bit dry. If I'm in the area, I would like to try the crab cake or Korean cheese steak. It seems like a nice quiet place to sit and enjoy your meal. Unfortunately, I felt rushed to get going as soon as I walked in. read more

Korean cheese steak on bread -- this was super flavorful. They are very generous with meat and sauce. It got a bit too strongly flavored at the end but I had milk tea to help. I particularly like the roasted mushroom chunks, so instead of slices they had chunks which packed more juice within each cut. Milk tea -- one of the most legit milk tea I've had outside of Asia. I love that the fragrance of tea and the bitterness comes through and not just sweetness. No boba though, might have to order separately. Thai BBQ Pork in rice paper-- this is like a burrito sized spring roll, which was actually really good. I love the veggie choices they picked that goes in. The cilantro and jalapeño really brings out the flavors of everything else. I took it home to eat but the wrap survived the 30 min drive, though some of the sauces leaked out. I also love how low carb this is. The only thing I'd add at home next time is probably make my own sweet chili peanut sauce for dipping. Basil Crab Cake red quinoa bowl-- this was very generous amount of food, filling the whole bowl. I love love love that they included arugula in the greens. I'm also very intrigued by the carrot cuts they are like spiral fries. I like that some of the veggies don't have sauce and the cole slaw portion does! The crab cake is fried and cut like katsu but smelled extra good because of the cumin. You can actually taste the crab flavor. I also love the sauce it came in, not overly sweet. All their cucumbers are pickled sweet. Fries-- my kids love how thin the fries cuts are, both chips and fries. The house seasoning is delicious, it's savory, spicy, AND sweet because of the sugar crystals! Ordering wise, they take online or kiosk, they don't really take orders so the staff is just in the back cooking. Which is actually good because there's no miscommunication and they can focus on doing a fantastic job on food. The kiosk is super easy to use, and the language is very friendly and not misleading at all. I have yet to try the online portal. Packaging wise I love that they use mostly paper containers and the fork is biodegradable, and I napkins are of very good quality. Location wise it has a plaza at an intersection so plenty of parking places. But getting out of it it's kinda tricky because it exits out onto a traffic light with a stop sign. I've never seen that before. Overall this place is so amazing, we'd definitely come back even if it's far for us. Looking to try their highly recommended garlic shrimp next! read more

Had lunch there today (Friday!) This food cooks, as the kids say. I had the crab cake sandwich and my boyfriend had the lemon chicken sandwich. Both were delicious! I went to this place once and just thinking about it, makes me want to return. Parking is ample, you can find a spot easily. The restaurant itself isn't big so seating is limited. I got the Korean cheesesteak sandwich and it was very delicious. Bread was soft and fresh. Marinated beef brisket was perfectly seasoned and moist. That sesame oil makes a big difference in taste. Portion size was sufficient. This plus a cookie or a bag of chips would be a filling lunch. They have other unique sandwiches on the menu that I'll have to try out soon. Prices are very fair. Service can be a little long depending on how many people are ordering. We went when there weren't a lot of people for lunch so food came out fast. read more

Everything's zen in this small cool sandwich place that has some good healthy choices. It has the original location in Elmhurst. Zenwich primarily focuses on sandwiches. Also they like to use technology to save time and money. The place is tiny so it's only good for takeout. It has a pretty good priced menu that while on the expensive side is reasonable for around here. Like I mentioned, it's technologically advanced, so there's a kiosk to make an order. There's not a whole lot for room for indoor dining, making it best for takeout. It's very casual. Sandwiches are the main thing. Both of us got the vegan choice, the Mad Monk. It's about $10.50 for a pretty good sized sandwich. This has baby arugula, some kind of veggie patty, sriracha, and teriyaki. It has a little spice but it's not killer. There's also side items like truffle fries, which people seem to like a lot. Good stuff whether it's teas or sandwiches, and you can get both. It seems people like the Spicy Garlic Shrimp Sandwich, so that's the carnivorous choice. There's also plenty of choices for vegans. read more

Ordered the spicy garlic shrimp sandwich (~$13-14) via Uber eats for a weekday lunch and enjoyed it. It didn't take too long to arrive, or at least not longer than the estimated time. One bad thing was that our requests for things like sriracha and the addition of grilled mushrooms were completely ignored - not sure if that's uber's fault or theirs... luckily I enjoyed my sandwich as-is anyway, but beware if you like making modifications. The portion size was regular/almost small, and there was a lot of veg in the sandwich, which I liked. The garlic flavor was present, but not in a where-are-my-breath-mints way. read more

Overall (A) It's really good. The pictures don't do it justice. The interior is not that great and it's located in a crappy strip mall but the food is really really good. Food (A) It's really good! Had the garlic shrimp and truffle fries. Good portion side and comes with a side of chips. Great lunch sandwich place. High quality and worth waiting a little while. Value (A) Elite experience so it was complimentary but it's a good value. Did pay $5 for the truffle fries. Big portion and really good. Good value in this economy for high quality food. Service (A) Take a bit for the food to come out since they only have one guy working. But worth the wait and really really good. Super nice and friendly. I wish I lived closer - I would come frequently and bring some friends. They have something awesome here but people probably drive by since it don't look welcoming on the outside. A different location or more appealing - and they could 10x the business. If you are in the area or local I would highly recommend. read more

What a surprise with this place. Food and service were both top notch. Will definitely return

So excited for this sandwich shop because the menu had both of my favorite things - shrimp AND crab, and also because I had heard the food was fantastic. Upon getting there, I absolutely loved the sparse ambience - it's very reminiscent of small Japanese restaurants in Japan. Simple in decor, clean, limited menus, and food done right. We grabbed our drinks first, coz there was just such a fun variety of drinks - I grabbed the Elite Boba drink, and hubby grabbed a Lilikpi Lychee drink. The Boba drink was fantastic, and well balanced. But that lychee drink was an ABSOLUTE marvel! Now on to the sandwich - I chose a crab cake sandwich for my sanwi h but added truffle fries and the additional drink for a charge. I must say, this is the cheapest I've ever ordered truffle fries. Once ordered, the chef went to work - this made me super happy, that I wasn't going to be eating a soggy, pre-fried crab cake patty. Our sandwich and fries came out piping hot. The fries were nice and crispy, with the truffle seasoning nicely homogenized with the fries. How the chef got that to happen is beyond me - but I was NOT complaining. These fries were SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! Honestly, kind of pre-emptive, but I already knew I liked the fries more than anything else I would put in my mouth. Lol Now onto this sandwich... the ciabatta was crusty and spongey at the same time (awesome), the arugula and aioli made for a nice zippy contrast to the fried crab cake (good, good), and the crab cake was well seasoned and crispy (a thing of beauty, really!)...however, it was missing just ...something. Later on, as I kept eating, I realized that I was sorely missing an acidic component to cut through the fried patty taste. Some sort of pickled cabbage or dill pickles would have really picked up and brightened this sandwich - but overall, a pretty good sandwich. I guess I should have ordered the cucumber salad to go with it...that's what I'll order next! Those fries and that lychee drink, though...I'm definitely coming back for those! read more

Lemon chicken sandwich was delicious! We stopped in a weekend afternoon, off hours for a meal. There was only one other couple inside who arrived just before we did so it wasn't super crowded or busy. The ordering system is just a walk up to an iPad and punch in your order and pay situation. Ultimately, not the worst not very impactful in terms of building a connection or customer base for a small business- but the food speaks for itself and i would come back again! Lemon chicken sandwich was filled with fresh crunchy veggies, juicy crisp chicken and a delicious slight sweet lemony mayo sauce. The seasoned fries were good, kind of sweet, salty with a little kick. The sandwich was big and I was able to save some for lunch the next day, I'm surprised how well it held up in the refrigerator. Worth a stop and good reminder to believe the hype. :) read more

I wish this place were closer to me because I would eat here every month if it were. Different types of awesome Asian sandwiches is something I crave, and Zenwich delivered. The Korean cheesesteak sandwich had insanely tender beef and was easily the best cheesesteak sandwich I've ever had. My wife had the pork belly sandwich in a rice wrapper. Having a sandwich delivered in a rice wrapper is genius. It's basically an easier to eat and less messy lettuce wrapped sandwich. This truly delivered and is a great option if you want something lighter than the cheesesteak sandwich. The truffle fries were great of course. And I loved the restaurant environment. Seeing the boys hustle and cook for us is special as it feels like a very homegrown operation that they're pouring their souls into. read more

Food was very unique, definitely a great place if you're wanting to explore new cuisine. The drinks were also quite nice. I enjoyed the watermelon drinks they had available there. They played some very nice music and even though the dining area is a bit small it is very well decorated. Popped in tonight for the first time, but definitely not the last. Zenwich-Elmhurst is my new favorite sandwich shop. There is only one vegetarian option for me, but it was so good that I'm keen to order the Mad Monk, plus cucumber salad and truffle fries, every single time. My husband has really enjoyed the chicken sandwich that I got for him as looks forward to the Thai BBQ sandwich for tomorrow's breakfast. Quick service. Owners/staff were so kind and helpful. Contact-free ordering via kiosk and food was ready in like 8-9 minutes. Really fast. Masks required. Order ahead, too, via a QR code I'll include in my photos. This was place was recommended by a friend. It is our first time eating here. The staff behind the counter was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered two of his recommendations both of which were delicious. Our food came fast and was nice and hot. The food just looked and tasted fresh. Phenomenal fusion sandwiches. Had the Korean cheese steak, and it knocked my socks off. Everything is handmade with skill and artistry, it almost feels a shame to eat the things they make. They also have seasoned fries that was cooked to absolute perfection. Perfect seasoning without being overpowering, and perfectly crisp. The only downside is you'll be tempted to eat two sandwiches. Zenwich is a gem! Will be back here soon! read more

The place is simple and small. I do like that they have pictures and a description of the sandwiches on the wall. The bottled drinks are out in the open so you can look at your options. I thought it was cool that they added stickers onto their beverage stand frame. Eyeballed a sailor moon sticker (Usagi fan!) I walked in and told the guy right away I was here for the elite to go meal. He asked for my name and order and then I waited around for a bit. They encourage online ordering. Otherwise they have a kiosk available. But it is a small area so I would advise ordering online as well. The spicy garlic shrimp sandwich was bigger than I expected. I do like that they cut it in half. Every bite was delicious. A great layer to my tastebuds. Fresh crispy cilantro, breaded shrimp and glazed off with their sauce. The shrimp had a good crunch to it. A good amount of it too! I did not find it spicy at all and that's coming from a person who can not handle any level of spice lol I loved the fries! I love all fries but I am the type that loves eating the crunchy ones that are like chips pretty much. So if you're expecting potatoey fries, you'll probably not enjoy these. The containers are different from what I'm use to. Makes it less, fast food take out feel. I figured it would be wrapped in paper. read more

I've had sandwiches from here a few times when visiting family in the area and everything if always fresh and delicious. I had the basil crabcake sandwich and it was excellent. They make everything to order and so the crabcakes were nice and crisp and the carrots and arugula were also still crisp so all had definitely been assembled shortly before packing up for carry out. The bread is fresh and tasty with the perfect crisp and chewy texture. The only downside is the online ordering is a little glitchy. Pickup times don't seem to be adjusted for what is actually going on in the restaurant. One time we had a pickup scheduled (after opening time of course) and the sole worker was just arriving so it took a bit. This time there were a bunch of folks placing large orders at the counter and there was again just one worker and no one else to handle the online orders. So...we've learned to order from here only when we aren't on a tight timeline. The sandwiches are really good though so we do still like coming here. read more

This place closes at 7pm, put in a take out order online shortly after 6. We arrived at 6:45pm and when we got there my wife went to the door, it was locked and a man came to the door, opened it a small amount and rudely said "we're closed" before quickly trying to close it again and she stated that we had ordered online and we were here for pick up. He grabbed the food, handed it to her through the small gap in the door and then closed it and locked it without saying anything to her. At this point, I'm not even going to tell you about the food. Let's just say from what we got tonight this place is way overrated. One star for the service. First time here , and definitely going back! We walked in and no one was behind the counter so we sat down and waited . A guy walked out and started cooking .. didn't say hello or ask if we had any questions or let us know we order at the screen in front , so that's why I didn't give it an extra star. The food was wonderful, a bit overpriced so I wouldn't go as often as I'd like too. read more

First off, I would definitely come back again for their spicy garlic shrimp sandwich. Arugula paired with their sweet and spicy aioli with the garlic shrimp, perfect match. I'd give five stars for this sandwich. We were here during covid times, and the staff delivered our food through the window (not a drive up), but still nice so we didn't have to go in the store a second time. We did go in a first time to order though, but didn't have to wait inside for the food. I ordered two other sandwiches here, the chicken teriyaki katsu and Korean cheese steak. Not a huge fan of these, or maybe I just had higher expectations. Maybe there was too much bread for the katsu sandwich (bread and the breaded katsu) and not enough meat or additional flavor for me. The Korean cheesesteak was a little too saucy for my liking too, and not sure if the mozzarella cheese cut it for me. My 2 year old liked this sandwich though! You get free chips if you check in on yelp, so don't forget to do that! The homemade chips, though super crispy and a great texture, were also a little disappointing for me. Wish it were plain chips with salt. Ha. That's what I expected at least before biting into it. Ended up being a little sweeter than salty. Truffle fries were plain fries that I assume just had some truffle powder on top. Also just okay, but not as good as some places I've had with fries cooked in truffle oil. All in all, the experience was alright. I'd recommend the spicy garlic shrimp! And if I'm in the area, I'll have to try more things and possible review this place again. read more

This place has a nice selection of asian-themed fusion sandwiches ranging from thai (bbq pork belly) to korean (korean cheesesteak) to japanese (katsu) sandwiches. I tried the korean cheesesteak, garlic shrimp, and katsu sandwiches. The breading looked really thick but was surprisingly soft, which was a pleasant surprise. My wife really liked the garlic shrimp, which was packed with flavor and came with arugula, which was a nice touch. The katsu sandwich was pretty good too, though could be a little dry - came with a bit too much lettuce - it was like 3x the amount compared the rest of the sandwich. The korean cheesesteak was also ok- apart from a sweeter sauce, I couldn't see the korean correlation - they should use bulgolgi or kalbi to make it more authentic, but I could see that driving the price up significantly. The gouda cheese was also a little too strong a cheese for me, but that's a personal preference. Truffle fries were regular shoestring fries essentially with truffle seasoning. Chips were a bit flavorless. These aren't really the highlights, but just FYI. All in all, points for creativity and making my wife happy with the garlic shrimp sandwich. read more
