We found ourselves at this restaurant on many different occasions over the last six months. We always have found a place nice, Clean and quiet where we can talk and have a conversation. It's fine! In general True Food has lost a bit of its luster for me. I used to love it but with so many healthy food restaurant options now in the mix, I don't get as excited about it. I most recently had their skinny margarita and Korean glass noodle bowl. While I totally appreciate the minimizing of oils, salt, soy sauce, etc. this dish tasted like nothing to me. Almost like I had long covid and a loss of taste. The skinny margarita also tasted off - like there was orange juice instead of traditional margarita mix. I did try the seasonal sourdough pita with eggplant dip and that was really good. But some of my favorites are longer on the menu for example, the harissa cauliflower and chicken pizza. Service and ambiance are great. I'll definitely be back in the future but it has fallen off the pedestal a bit for me. read more

I was so excited to try this place, only to be a bit disappointed. The location is beautiful inside and creates excitement about the experience you're going to have. We walked in around 10:30 in the morning and it was pretty calm. I expected for it to be packed, no! We were seated immediately. As we looked over the menu, we were greeted by our server. She was sweet, but she seemed clueless concerning what was good or how to make us believe a dish was good. Unfortunately she lacked people skills . We ordered what we assumed was good and honestly, it was good, but it wasn't memorable. I don't even remember what I ate. The special made drinks were very good! I love that they have so many fresh and healthy options here. I had the pink dragonfruit lemonade and the poke bowl and my husband had the korean noodles. Both were delicious! Been meaning to try this farm to table restaurant. We were out in Oak Brook to hike some of the preserves with our pup and needed to return an item at retailer located near True Kitchen. I called and they have a dog friendly patio. We made a reservation and table was ready as reserved. We sat outside under a nice umbrella. The day was perfect. We were served by Alivia and she was so friendly and welcoming. Our dog even fell in love with her warm demeanor. We started out with drinks. My husband grabbed juice based non-alcoholic refresher before moving on to smoky old fashion. I grabbed the passionfruit margarita but asked for it to be spicy. The drink presented well but the rim was so salty and the tequila was not plentiful. My husband enjoyed his old fashion. For brunch I had the rancher's hash and it was delicious. I had the eggs cooked over-hard and nothing to complain about on this breakfast. The only thing is that the dish came with sourdough toast and the bread was so hard and had no butter. I should asked for some butter but I was hungry so I ate it. We also grabbed chicken tenders (air fryer) with the slaw to go. The slaw was good and the tenders were okay but I think they were slightly burnt so they were very dry. All in all this was a positive dining experience. If you're looking for clean eating, this is a place for you. The entire menu is made fresh in house. Started the visit off with a drink called the hangover RX. This was a necessary drink. We had a great time having lunch at True food kitchen. Our server was the most friendly lady. We started with coffee and matcha drinks. Hummus and edamame dumplings for appetizer - both were amazing. I wasn't sure how to begin this review. I was concerned that this would be what I call a health food, pretentious establishment. It would be low fat, low salt, low sugar, low carb, and low flavor. For a person who prefers more traditional American food It was not as bad as I feared that it would be. There were at least a few items on the menu that I could relate to. The number of offerings and the size of the menu was pretty spot on. It just did not offer many options that I would enjoy. If they want to appeal to mixed groups of people, I would suggest more options for people who are not super food conscious. I found nothing in the appetizers that appealed to me. Also the " little salad " turned out to be a handful of wilted spinach. That's not what I think of as a salad. Regardless of all this, we did have a good time. The food was seasoned well and prepared well. If there had been a little more balance on the menu, I could've given them five stars. No complaints about wait times or about our service. The hostess was very welcoming. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. If you are a health food warrior this is the place for you. They cooked their food well. And they seasoned it well. I just wouldn't recommend it for your less health food conscious friends. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch to celebrate Father's Day and glad I made a reservation because when we arrived, the place was absolutely packed to the gills We got a great little booth and the server was absolutely fantastic and super friendly We ordered just a handful of dishes and everything was super tasty to our surprise quite frankly. Our group definitely sometimes thinks that healthy is not necessarily tasty and that fresh is sometimes a little too clean however, this place did not disappoint and everything from drinks, which I forgot to take a picture of of cocktails, as well as the fancy coffees, the food were delicious. This is definitely a must stop again and clearly on the weekend the reservation is needed I think this is a great addition to the mall. Little more corn and cream would be good. Noodle salad4/5 Mac n cheese 4/5 lacked salt. Drink 5/5. Serve 10-10 her name was Erin and she was super sweet and helpful. I requested to ask about options without ginger and garlic and she quickly went ahead to check with the chef. When she returned to the table she had a note in her hand with all the things written, I was really impressed with her diligence and willingness. My friend is vegan so we try to eat at places that offer her more than a salad. We like the selections here for both of us. She had a bowl with ancient grains and I had a Mediterranean wrap. We split some guacamole. The food was really delicious. The only hiccup we had was that my friend found a hair in her bowl. Our server quickly replaced the bowl. Speaking of server, ours was great! She was funny and friendly. She checked back with us and let us be when we were chatting. We found out that she's going to school for her masters degree in language pathology. She'll be great! I came here with friends on a Saturday evening for dinner. We had made a reservation but still had to wait 10-15 minutes to be seated. We had already perused the menu while waiting so we knew what we wanted to order but still had to flag down our waitress to place our orders. I had the wild caught tuna poke bowl (regenerative black rice, avocado, roasted mushrooms, cucumber, jalapeño, edamame, pickled ginger, citrus ponzu). The portion size was pretty small and the rice tasted overly salty/citrusy and completely masked the flavor of the other ingredients. I also found the mushrooms a strange pairing with the rest of the bowl. There was also minimal poke in the bowl itself. In the end I was forcing myself to finish it since I was paying for it. Hubby had the ancient grain bowl (miso sesame glazed sweet potato, charred onions, snap peas, portobello, avocado, organic grains, pistachio pesto, hemp seeds, turmeric) and added chicken. The ancient grain bowl was a much better choice than the tuna poke bowl and the ingredients were fresh. Overall wasn't the best experience and many of the items on the menu seemed pricier than necessary. read more

Ughhh I wish I liked these foods more. The place is clean and the service is good. The price point is high. The quality is fresh and top of the line. But everything is bland and simply tasteless. I'm quite disappointed with my tuna poke. It's the worst I've ever had. I'm so very sorry to say. I've come here on a few different occasions because I've enjoyed the True Food Kitchen in the city. I'd recommend making reservations if you want to dine here because it can get quite busy, especially if you're dining in with a group. Customer Service: The staff has been friendly and helpful during all of my visits. Cost: The cost may be on the higher end but they do use fresh ingredients, and everything tastes good! Food The food never disappoints me. I enjoy the burgers and bowls. This restaurant makes healthy taste good and the portions are filling. They also have options that are vegan, vegetarian and gluten friendly. Ancient Grains Bowl (added Salmon): The bowl comes with miso sesame glazed sweet potato, turmeric, charred onion, snap pea, portobello, avocado, hemp seed, cilantro pumpkin seed pesto. Although it does not automatically include meat/fish, the bowl is filling in itself. I like mine with a little protein so I typically add salmon to it which complements it well. All the flavors and the ingredients mesh well together and the soft and crunch factor is also perfect. This bowl is the option I opt for when I come here so definitely try it out if you're uncertain on what to order. Spicy Panang Curry Bowl: The bowl includes forbidden rice, sweet potato, bok choy, rainbow carrots, snap pea, green bean, thai shellfish curry broth, herbs. The bowl is also good and perfect for a cold day or if you're craving Thai curry. Tuscan Kale Salad: The bowl includes organic kale, lemon, garlic, parmesan, breadcrumb and is perfect for a hot summer day or if you're in the mood for something real healthy. I'd recommend adding a protein like salmon to add a little more to the salad. The O.G. Grass-Fed Burger: The burger consists of grass-fed organic beef, umami, mushroom, caramelized onion, organic arugula, parmesan, mayonnaise. The flavors of the ingredients go well together with every bite. The burger may not be as filling in comparison to ordering a bowl or just in itself. I'd recommend ordering an item on the side to go with the burger. I'd be back if I was in the area. Wish there was one near the Schaumburg area! read more

Debated between 3-4 stars - there were so great dishes and the service was great so it got bumped up. Herb hummus was very good- love that it came with the fresh veggies in the middle. Guac was ok- the chips it came with her too crispy- they almost tasted a bit stale. Roasted Brussels sprouts were really good- great flavor. The meatloaf was absolutely amazing - would def recommend! The Korean noodles with steak was just ok- it needed some kick to it, some spice was badly needed! I got the smoky old fashion- it was good but the mezcal was def better for the smoky drink lovers. This was a very good spot, food was tasty and fresh. The only downside is the menu was a little limited, and a little skewed towards specialty diets like vegan and vegetarian. Since I am not one of those I do like my meat. Hubby had fried chicken and was pretty impressed and I had chicken Parm pasta dish. A great choice especially if you dining with someone who has specialty dietary needs. They ask as you're ordering if you are gluten-free or if there's anything else they need to know. Ample parking, fresh, clean, and not too loud (high ceilings with dampening boards) ambiance, window wall brightens the room. Interesting lighting accents make me want to redo the lighting options in my own home. I wasn't sure how much I would like this place as it isn't one of my typical haunts. Everything at True Food is made with utmost care and health of people and the planet in mind (their words, not mine), but it works. And it works extremely well. They have a seasonal menu and we ate off their "Summer" menu. Truthfully, I think most of the items are year round, but there are enough changes to warrant different menus. throughout the year. We started with their Wold-Caught Tuna Lettuce Wraps. It's not a dish for me, so my wife and son indulged. They said it was really, really good and that the pineapple relish was extremely good and made the dish along with the fried rice. I would have been fine with the fried rice alone as that was very tasty. My wife was recommended the Ancient Grains bowl. There is nothing in it that I would eat being a picky carnivore, but if you like this sort of thing, she says it was crazy good and it's a large enough portion to bring home and have for lunch the next day (as she did). My son got the Grilled Grass-Fed Steak cooked medium rare. It's been a long time since I've seen steak cooked to such perfection. He ordered an additional portion of steak as well and it really wasn't mush more that a slab a meat on a plate found at a regular steakhouse. This was sliced up and placed atop a bed of asparagus, sweety drop peppers, regenerative black rice, with a black garlic vinaigrette. He ate every last bit with gusto. I ordered the Pot Roast Beef Dip sans the carmelized onions. It's 100% organic grass-fed beef, with a horseradish aioli, parmesan and au jus. There was extra au jus on the side but wasn't needed at all. The combination was insanely juicy and flavorful and the roll was light, slightly crispy, yet somehow melts in your mouth. I also upgraded my side to get their umami potatoes (I think umami is a house thing for them). Umami is basically salt, pepper, and olive oil. Which coated the potatoes and gave them a crispy texture when cooked (baked, whatever) and it comes with a side of the black garlic vinaigrette as well. It has a slight spiciness to it, but the vinegar cuts through it and leaves the flavor and not the over-spiciness of what garlic and black pepper can almost always overdo when added to food. They don't serve any type of cola so I ordered a peach lemonade which was perfectly sweetened but not overly so. The peach cuts down the tartness of the lemonade and gives it a nice sweet kick that one doesn't expect when peaches are mixed with lemonade. The true kick is that True Food uses agave straws to help the environment, not hinder it. At every turn, True Food finds a way to make everything about helping the people they serve to the environment around them. The use of lots of windows instead of utilizing extra electricity on lighting, to the agave straws, to organically sourced food. While there isn't a location closer to me, we will definitely return and try other dishes. Their sourdough pizzas looked amazing! read more

Stoped by true food kitchen while we were shopping at Oakbrook mall last weekend and it was an amazing experience! There's tons of seating inside and outside, the staff is absolutely amazing, and the menu is seasonal which allows you to try different items every time you visit! We ordered a dragon fruit lemonade, Mediterranean salad, and the OG grass-fed burger with sweet potatoes on the side! The lemonade was super refreshing and crisp! Definitely much needed on a hot and sunny day! The Mediterranean salad was my favorite! It had the typical Mediterranean salad toppings mixed with quinoa, artichokes, almonds, feta, and a delicious dressing! Every bite was perfect!!!! It was so healthy yet so so delicious! You can also add protein like chicken, shrimp, steak, or tofu to make it a little heavier but it was just perfect as it was for me! The burger and sweet potatoes were soooooo yummy! Probably one of the juiciest and tender burger patties I've ever tasted! And even after eating the burger and potatoes, I didn't feel like I was overstuffed!
