What a hidden gem! The ambiance was cozy and comforting with low lights and candles on the tables. The service was phenomenal! Our server was attentive but also gave us time to catch up with friends. Dined at Glen Prairie last Saturday night for the first time. This restaurant is attached to a hotel. It has a nice bar area and lounge area with an open concept dining area. We were seated at the first table near the door in a banquette with an upholstered chair on one side of the table and booth on the other. I first sat on the booth side, and it was so low that I switched to the chair so the table wouldn't be at my clavicle. The chair was very uncomfortable thoughout the meal. Our server didn't introduce herself, but she was friendly and brought over bread service and took our drink order right away. I had a Trefethen Chardonnay, which she brought a taste of because I usually don't drink Chardonnay. That was nice. My husband had an old fashioned, which was way too sweet and he didn't enjoy it. The smoked cherries were medicinal and didn't taste good. The table next to us concurred. We both started with soup. He had a French onion, which was delicious. I had the pumpkin soup, which was not a creamy thick soup. It was more on a broth side. Not a winner for me. I had the tuna poke bowl for dinner, which was plentiful, except for the tuna. It was more like eating a salad, than having the protein of the tuna. It was fresh, though, but missed the mark with little protein. My husband had the fish n' chips and enjoyed it. Our server was extremely busy that the reception desk people were running food. I felt a lack of attention. To be honest, there are much better restaurants to dine at, so I won't be back. A local favorite. We enjoy the seasonal menu and specials. Tonight, along with our standard firecracker shrimp appetizer (LOVE IT), we had the seasonal beef bourguignon, instead of my standby short ribs. It was wonderful. As was the Scottish Salmon on a bed of butternut squash risotto. Paired well with a Pinot noir. But by far the biggest surprise of the evening was the pumpkin ice cream with espresso and sea salt caramel. So GOOD! Go now while it is still in season! The short- The appetizers were good, the entrees flavor and temperature was inconsistent, and the service was awful. The long- While the server said she would give us space, before we ordered, it was very difficult to flag her down because she didn't come by anymore. After ordering, I would have thought she would have checked on us more frequently. This would have been especially helpful after we received our meals and my daughter's food was cold. It never happened. Our party of 6 had a 20% gratuity added automatically at the end. The percentage is not an issue, but there was zero notification on the menu, or by the server, of such a fee (as I have seen in many other restaurants). The server debated with us about this being the standard and had the nerve later to say it is an Illinois standard. This is patently false in regards to party size and percentage (it varies by location). We asked to see a manager and the server came back saying they weren't around and mush be on break. Upon her return from removing the applied fee, she loudly apologized that we were not happy with the service (the loudest she spoke all night) and now said she informed the manager of all of our concerns and the manager would be available by the reception desk upon departure. Not only was the manager not there, but I am curious why the manager wouldn't come by and check on us personally. Was the server being truthful? With lackluster service, and food that was hit or miss, I would think twice about returning. I definitely cannot recommend Glen Prairie to others. read more

The person with me had the fish and chips - they looked pretty good but the chef needs a new recipe for cole slaw - I should have told her not to get cole slaw - it is not edible. If you want dessert for $10 I guess that's ok but how about a dip of vanilla ice cream for $5. It's not the great place it was before covid - maybe needs a new chef. After a week of travel for this Mom, the last thing I wanted to do was to make dinner. This isn't the first time we've been to Glen Prairie and I knew it was just the place I wanted to go. The atmosphere is warm, but quiet. Perfect for a good family catchup. The food is comforting without being too heavy and the wine, beer and cocktail selection is the perfect pairing. We've had the pleasure of being served by Anna a few times now and she does a great job. She is attentive and watchful, without being overbearing which is a difficult skill to master for a lot of servers. Aside from that, I love that it is a safe place for folks with food allergies and I feel very well taken care of in respect to that issue. I can tell that everyone from the hosts to the servers to the bartenders to the kitchen staff are very well trained in creating a safe and welcoming experience for each guest. Glen Prairie is quickly becoming one of our go to family favorite restaurants and we will definitely be back! read more

Delicious food and great service. I have celiac and am always so happy when I have tons of gf options, as was the case at Glen Prairie. My dinner companions were able to enjoy glutenous options and I was content with everything from gf bread and butter at the beginning of the meal down to gf dessert to finish! I made a note that I had celiac in my reservation, and the waitress instantly confirmed which of us needed gf options once we sat down. I had the short ribs, which were delicious and tender. We had missed this great spot when they were closed due to covid for so long. We were pleasantly impressed with our entire meal. The food was served with such flavor, freshness and tasted amazing. My husband even said it was better than he remembered. I would recommend the tuna poke bowl. It was so fresh and reminds me of a fish I had on vacation when only being In glen Ellyn. Glen Prairie has always been a very reliable restaurant and cocktail lounge. We've come here regularly for many years. However, our most recent visit blew us away. The flavor and presentation of the food has really reached epic levels. I had the pork tenderloin, delivered to my table by Chef Danny himself. What a flavorful preparation and beautiful presentation. Best I've ever had, honestly. Others at the table raved about the duck and the curry. And of course, Kat serves us perfect martinis, complete with a slight icy layer- the way I love them! Glen Prairie is a hidden gem! If you love the concept of farm to table, eating in season, or eating local. Then, this is your place! I started out with the firecracker shrimp. Then, the rainbow trout with a lemon bur blanc. Which, came with a side of green beans with toasted sliced almonds, and a light airy bread crumb with some Parmesan cheese. Along, with a wild rice. The firecracker shrimp were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! As a chef, I know that this is hard to do! I loved to sauce to shrimp ratio. The sauce is very hot! But, I love heat! And, yet it's balanced out with a sweet tanginess. And, the shrimp were still crispy! If you like spicy foods! This is a must! The trout was cooked to perfection! It was crispy on the edges yet, silky in the middle! The lemon Bur Blanc was acidic, bright, silky, and rich! As a whole could've used more salt. But, that was an easy fix. The green beans were super flavorful! I loved the crunchy almond and the crispy bread crumb mix! If they were cooked about a minute longer. They would've be perfect! The wild rice was cooked to perfection! It had a nice chew on the outside with a soft center! The flavor was incredible! I added a touch of lemon which, tied the whole dish together! We were looking for a place to have a late breakfast and this was very close to us. We walked in at 10:30 and it was deserted. We walked in and ordered our food being a little skeptical. Once our food came out it was a different experience. It was so delicious! I had gotten spinach eggs Benedict and it was on point. We could see some nice raised tables near the bar that would be cool to have a few friends join for for dinner but no luck for us. Anyways the food was great. I had the pre fixe which came with a salad and a small scoop of sorbet but the real winner was the maple glazed duck confit with cassoulet. It was melt in your mouth tender and the cassoulet had just enough smokiness from the bacon. My gf had the beet salad that was good but not great and the short rib which was a very good rendition although nothing over the top. They are an organic and season with a monthly pre fixe menu that I am trying to get over to try again. I suggest you do the same. My first night in town for the week and staying In Lombard night 1. Was hoping to check out Babcock's Grove House or Fire + Wine but both were closed as it was Monday. So I opted instead for Glen Prairie. An odd location for locally sourced and fresh as it is connected to a Crowne Plaza Hotel among car dealerships along Roosevelt Road. I nearly adhered to my rule of passing on an empty restaurant at meal time when I walked in to an empty dining room but was glad I sat at the bar and discussed the menu with one of the 3 bar tenders on hand instead, all of which I could over hear cared about food in general. I was going to dive into the larger Mac and pulled pork dish initially but was advised to pair it instead with the Amish chicken or one of the sandwiches. So I opted for the grass fed burger and Mac and cheese as a side instead of fries. I also ordered a side of the yellow beets. None of the dishes disappointed and all were tasty. My burger was cooked as requested and came with a nice egg bun. The Mac was topped with crackers and had great cheese taste and consistency. Surprised I haven't written a review sooner, as I've been coming here for almost 7 years! The food is always good. The service is typically very good, but there's sometimes an off day. But regardless, they have breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus and all of them are great. They pride themselves on organic and locally sourced ingredients! We love that about Glen Prairie.
