The staff does a great job at hustling to turnaround customer requests and were very nice. When I visited, I got (6) Mild Italian Sausages ($12.44) and (4) Meatballs on sale ($4.00). I have passed this spot on the south end of downtown Wheaton all the time but never stopped in, but my boyfriend bought several types of sausage from them recently and we enjoyed both! First was the Polish sausage to go with our homemade pierogi. Gotta say, this tasted more like a breakfast sausage seasoning to me than the kielbasa my mom gets from the Polish deli. Wheaton Meat company sold us the worst meat ever (for $200) and ruined our Christmas dinner. We prepared a practice meal 2 weeks before Christmas but had purchased the meat from Marianos. I made a braised short rib receipe and it turned out outstanding. My husband suggested we get the Christmas meat from Wheaton being Christmas was so special and we had family coming in from different parts of the country. I was suspicious when I unwrapped the meat on Christmas Day (looked like nothing but fat) but I didn't have other options and prepared my same recipe as I did 2 weeks prior. Thank goodness I had made mashed potatoes and a salad because the meat (if you call it meat) was not eatable. This was a huge embarrassment as we had 18 plates piled high with gristle and fat! They will NEVER get another chance with us. Buyer beware!!!! read more

This place is pretty cool! It was very busy on a Saturday morning so be sure to give yourself some time. They fresh cut a lot of the items and have ready-to-go things like hamburgers as well. I got a strip steak and bacon cheeseburger patties. Both were delicious when grilled up! Nice and efficient customer service. I REALLY wish the butchers would wear gloves though. It grossed me out to see about eight guys cutting raw meat behind the counter, and none of them had any on. Hope they wash their hands often and weren't dealing with payment as well. :( read more

This butcher shop is outstanding. My husband and I recently discovered it, and now we shop there every week. The employees are extremely friendly and helpful. Plus, the hamburgers are phenomenal. We have tried the lamb burger, the special grind burger, and the mushroom-Swiss burger. Wow. All the burgers are great, but that last one is out of this world. Can't wait to buy more. Suffering from a meat coma for the last 22 hours, I was delayed in writing this review. After breakfast yesterday, my husband suggested a walk over to the Wheaton Meat Market to just 'see what they've got'. Who knew they've got it all?!?! We were quite overwhelmed as we do not have a local meat market in Bartlett so we didn't even know where to start. We kinda walked back and forth in front of the case aimlessly for a few minutes. I saw a giant slab of Delmonico meat. My son and my husband liked the t-bone. And so we ordered a couple T-bone steaks and a Delmonico cut about an inch thick (for me!). Then we decided to treat our dogs and learned that the marrow bones would be a good choice. Two of those giant bones please. Finally, we were oohing and ahhing over the stuffed peppers. Those will be served up for dinner tonight. The steaks cooked up beautifully. The marbling was perfect and the meat just so fresh. Even the husband who doesn't normally care too much about food, commented on how good it was. Now, they have a variety of meats in a variety of forms. Ham salad. Chicken salad. Bacon multiple ways. All sorts of sausage. Big ol' pork chops. Tons of sauces and seasonings. The list goes on and on. Thus, we will need to visit again. I don't see me being able to buy all of our meat here, but it was a fabulous treat and I know we will be back to try more. My only wish is that they opened a second location that was closer to home for us! read more

You don't see a lot of pure butcher shops these days, and there's a reason why this team has stood the test of time. The man behind the counter was patient as I deliberated over the perfect meat to occupy my Sunday. I eventually picked a rack of ribs, a rub, and the corned beef sausage. The pork ribs turned out great with the rub, not too fatty and overall just tasted clean along with a pure coloration. Wheaton Meat Company in downtown Wheaton is family-owned and has been around since 1920. I've been going there since 1988. They have the best quality and variety around, and the butchers are very friendly and helpful, especially if you want advice on how to cook something. I especially like the fact that they have fresh ground pork which I use in meatloafs as that's hard to find. Their ribs, pork chops, brats, and of course steaks and prime rib are top notch. Their hot dogs are the best I've ever had. Prices are very competitive, but it's the quality and variety that puts them at the very top. Buyer beware! I saw all the great reviews on this meat market and I go to the Wheaton Farmers Market down the street almost every weekend. I decided to try it. I knew something was off when the butcher never offered to show me the cuts of meat or told me the weight before wrapping the meat and charging me. I saw the two red ones on the top in the case and thought....wow! These are amazingly fresh. What I didn't know was that the guy behind the counter was going to give me meat that was about to turn. The two gray cuts actually smell. Come on people. You work with meat. You knew it wasn't up to snuff and you sold it anyways. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!
