very unpleasant experience. service was lousy. The waiter refused to accommodate any of my wife's special dietary restrictions which are pretty basic. Couldn't order fish simply grilled because apparently every piece of fish in the restaurant is pre seasoned. Every side dish is mass produced and pre seasoned and tastes that way. She ended up with a lousy iceberg lettuce salad with 2 tough-as-nails shrimps on top. Had to take a star away. Two things we were assured by our waiters the bourbon chicken was gluten free but when it came to the table there was no sauce just chicken, rice and peppers. "I guess now it's not gluten free" the waitress was son nice and apologized we were able to switch for something else. Finally able to try Ivy this past weekend and some parts really great and some parts just good. Ambience-wise, we were able to eat outside on the side patio - not the large space under the tent. We loved the side patio - quiet and spaced out tables. For drinks - we had some wine and my husband loved the Huckleberry Lemonade so definitely try that. We got side salads to accompany our entrees, but those were sub-par. My caesar salad definitely lacked some flavor. My husband got the ribs and this was a mixed bag. He thought the meat was really good/tasty, but they drenched the ribs in sauce. I love sauce and even to me, it was way too much. Would he get them again? Possibly - but he would say "hold the sauce.". I got the Scallops w/ corn and risotto and it was excellent. Perfectly seared and the corn risotto was quite good. I would get that dish again. Dick the owner gave me a call after my review went up. I was hesitant, however, my wife wanted to give it a chance. I'm glad we did. The setting on the main floor was romantic. My wife and I both got the 8oz filet. Mine was cooked medium rare. It was delicious and not gray. Our server was great. We did have the bread pudding for dessert and it was delicious. I'm glad we gave it another chance. My recommendation is, if you are unhappy, talk to someone. I'm not a guy that complains at the time. I usually stew on it. Plus I don't want to be a Karen. Cool concept of a restaurant that used to be a church. The decor was nice and really felt like the inside of an old church! Our service was nice and quick. We ordered the fish fry special, which was a delicious light battered cod. The wedge salad was also tasty. My peppercorn filet bites off the appetizer menu though was not great quality and cooked way too done, even though I asked for medium rare. The complementary bread was a nice warm touch with honey butter. It also was interesting that the restaurant seemed to be a nicer spot yet the sauces and dressings came in plastic containers. Went there for my anniversary the other night. sat outside in the street due to COVID-19 was disappointed as the twice baked potato was cold. told the waiter, he did bring it back and brought another one still wasn't much better. My mother and I stopped by Ivy after a shopping trip to Wheaton, and we were so glad we did! This was our first time really exploring Wheaton's restaurant scene, and Ivy made it unforgettable. The ambience alone is worth the visit--set in an old funerary chapel, the restaurant has a cozy yet striking feel, with beautiful stained glass at the back that makes it even more inviting. We each started with a drink--I went with a whiskey sour, while my mom enjoyed a glass of Château Le Freynelle Bordeaux Blanc. Both were excellent and set a perfect tone for the meal. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, making sure we were all set for each course. For an appetizer, we ordered the Almond Encrusted Brie, and it was fabulous. On a chilly day, the warm brie with crusty toast points was exactly what we needed. It came with a nice serving of mixed greens and a berry jam that was just the right balance of sweet and tart--a delicious way to start. For our main courses, my mom chose the Butternut Squash Ravioli, and I went with the 8 oz. Center-Cut Filet. My mom loved her ravioli, especially with the blue cheese topping, which wasn't heavy but brought out the fall flavors beautifully. My steak, topped with blue cheese as well, was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. It came with a hearty baked potato and asparagus, exactly what I wanted on a brisk day. We finished with the Flourless Chocolate Cake and Vanilla Bean Gelato--both absolutely delicious! The cake was moist, not overly sweet, and paired perfectly with the creamy vanilla bean gelato. Could be the nicest place to eat in Wheaton, and for sure has to be the most expensive. Ivy Restaurant is a pretty classy yet casual place that has a pretty big menu. Mostly it's burgers and steaks, but there's also a few things for vegetarians. Has some pretty well crafted cocktails. The prices are expectedly high but not outrageous. After looking for a place around here that was a little nicer than usual bars and stuff, we came here. It wasn't that busy and we got a table. The dining room is pretty big, and there's private rooms upstairs. Got cocktails. It's about $14 for a typical one. The Perfect Pear Martini is exactly as it sounds. Easy to knock it back, but also strong enough for a good buzz. This was made with elderflower, lemon, muddled pears, pear vodka, and simple syrup. Each of us got the Beyond Burger. It's expensive at $17 but you get a lot. The burger was big and thick. For as expensive as this place is, we may be hesitant to come back but it's good enough to go another time when wanting to get something classy and good. It's for sure the nicest restaurant in town. Tried this restaurant on a Sunday Night with my husband. We started off with Whiskey Sour and a specialty mock tail. Both the drinks were awesome. For appetizer, we had burrata which was tasty. For mains, we had Ivy Meatloaf and Butternut Squash Ravioli which were delicious. The server was super sweet, attentive and warm. The ambiance was chill. There is plenty of parking in the streets or you can park in the wheaton public garage. I would definitely recommend this place! Must try! read more

Gorgeous, stunning ambiance! Truly a great location with quite a history--this was once a funeral chapel back in the day. They also have a beautiful patio location with ivy climbing the walls--hence, the name. My cocktail here was great, as was the calamari and salmon entree I ordered. The server was delightful and attentive. The one downside was that it took quite a long time for dinner. Yesterday, my wife and I were joined at Ivy's for a memorable Thanksgiving Dinner by another couple we have known for 35 years, almost half of our married life. I don't want to sound unappreciative of your efforts to provide a wonderful (but outrageously expensive) dining experience for the many families who dined there yesterday. However, you should know that it was the worst Thanksgiving dinner of my 84 years, and also ranks right at the top of my worst dining experiences EVER, for any occasion! None of the four of us wanted to complain and "spoil" Thanksgiving for the others. I suspect that we were not alone in that regard, and that many others might have "bitten their tongues!"That said, after we left the restaurant, we all "sounded off!" The waitress delivered butternut squash soup, four rolls and one small cup of butter. Our dinner was served and she then disappeared. Each plate had ONE slice of slightly warm turkey breast (the rest of the turkey serving appeared to be more like"leftovers"--an unappetizing assortment of skin and small fragments of drumsticks, wings and thighs.). Most of the dinner was not even warm, the gravy likewise just slightly warm and insufficient, with the "smashed potatoes"unappetizing at best! The waitress was nowhere to be found, and so we all silently picked at that which seemed to be worth the attempt, with half of the "turkey dinner" still left on our plates. I remarked afterwards, half-jokingly and half-seriously, that "I wouldn't have served that leftover meal to my dog!" And after this horrific dining experience, the waitress delivered our bill for $96, with an additional $8 in tax, totaling $104, and a "suggested tip amount" of an additional $23 to $29 to be added. Just OUTRAGEOUS! Don't you think? As nice as the ambience was, I doubt that any of us will recommend Ivy's for Thanksgiving Dinner to any of our friends. Whatever your goal was (other than a huge profit), you certainly missed the mark, and in so doing you left a bad taste in our mouths this Thanksgiving -- "pun intended!" My sweet wife thinks I was unduly harsh with my comments. She loves the restaurant and thinks it all should be chalked up to an inability to service a large number of diners all at once-- similar to that most of us have experienced when attending banquets serving hundreds at the same time. So she suggests that you give Ivy's a try--but not perhaps on Thanksgiving Day! read more

We enjoyed a couple cocktails, I had a blackberry bourbon smash and my wife had something with blueberries. Both were excellent. As for food, we split the charcuterie appetizer and the beer can chicken entree. The charcuterie was outstanding. There was a mango and ginger cheese that went perfectly with the board. I would skip the beer can chicken. It was super dry and based on how fast it came out, I would not be surprised if it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time. Though the green beans were great and probably the highlight of that plate. It was definitely not worth the money we paid. I was then approached by the manager (owner I believe), with that same steak, telling me I hadn't cut far enough into it and it was a perfect medium rare. The steaks were tough and the rest of the food were ordered did not taste good. I watched other tables given attention while ours seemed like it was ignored. The service was extremely lacking to the point where we were the ones finding space on our tables to put away appetizer plates we're no longer using to make way for entrees.. take note, the plates were stacked the entire time we ate and no one bothered to put them away. None of our empty drinks were refilled either. Our server only checked in on us when she took our orders and gave our check. Really enjoyed the ambiance of this restaurant. It's in an old church, and features low lighting and small tables creating an intimate atmosphere. They offer a smaller menu, but they do it well. Ordered cocktails and burrata for an appetizer; Steaks for the entree. They were all cooked to perfection and had fantastic flavor profiles. Went with the seasonal bread pudding (peaches and cream) for dessert and it came out extremely fresh. I went on a Monday (they ARE open on Mondays), so the traffic was down. This is a classic downtown Wheaton spot. The interior is an old funeral home, which is nowhere near as grim as it sounds. It actually looks like an old church, with stained glass windows, high ceilings, a fireplace, and what appear, to my untrained eye, to be walnut tables. In short, the interior is beautiful. There is a very nice outdoor patio when the weather is nice. The food is always good, and is sometimes great. Their steaks are always solid. The service is friendly and very competent. If you have been there before, you will be recognized. The wine list seems to be solid, but I'm not much of a wine drinker. They have a handful of craft beers and imports on draft.
