Whip It Good
Bailey P.

We stopped by on a Monday afternoon and the place was absolutely empty. We accidentally went through the back door and had to double check with the person working to make sure they were open since it was so empty. Eventually one other group of guys came to sit at the bar but it still seemed very slow. We started with the whipped feta appetizer. Honestly, it was a big disappointment. It was basically a melty soup with mediocre pita bread. I was expecting something more whipped or spreadable. For my meal I had the kale salad with added chicken which was 10x better than the appetizer. The salad was giant and filling and fresh and flavorful!

Crab poppers
Maggie M.

Crab poppers had a little kick to it. But didn't taste much of the crab. Underneath are arugula and pineapple which were delicious. Had the short ribs grill cheese and it came with a side of tomato soup for dipping. It was very good and had lots of meat and cheese in every bite. We went with a big group, so beware on the bill they automatically had added gratuity 22% and credit card service charge fee (starting to see credit card service charges at every restaurant).

Lunch before a visit to the Hokusai exhibit at COD.

We had a scheduled visit to the MAC @ COD and saw that Warren's Ale house was just 5 minutes away. Earlier this year I missed meeting some friends there for some friendship, so it was on my mind. Got there just after noon on a Thursday. Great decision for a casual lunch. Got seated right away, hot outside but comfy cool inside. Had some time reviewing the menus, one for drinks another for food. We ordered up some draft beers and then decided what we were going to eat. I got the Warren burger with bacon and fries. My daughter got the beef egg roll. Both of our meals were prepared perfectly and pretty quickly. Our server was great also, checking on us and attentive. This was a great casual lunch. It fit our time frame for Hokusai at the MAC. If you get a chance to go there, you won't be disappointed.

Stopped in for a drink and something to eat. Bartenders were very nice food was good.

Son's kids meal.

We began the day at Morton Arboretum. Rather than eat there we opted to try a new place in the greater area. I searched for a bar/grill and Warren's Ale House popped up. I tried a turkey sandwich. Hubby had the shrimp tacos. Friend had the short tribe grilled cheese. Son had the kids cheeseburger. I really liked my sandwich. Hubby's shrimp tacos were excellent. Friend liked his grilled cheese and the beer he ordered. Son's kids cheeseburger looked good and it came with a side of applesauce and a lollipop for dessert. All the adults rated their meals/experience a 4/5. We would all return.

Avocado Bruschetta
Anusha D.

Tried this restaurant recently for dinner. We started off with Egg rolls, Pierogi and Avocado Bruschetta. The food was fresh and delicious. We then had a burger which was great in taste as well. You can never go wrong here. The food quality is always consistent here. The ambiance is great. The server was super attentive. As it's located in the plaza there is plenty of parking.

Class reunion guests...

We had our high school reunion at the Ale house in a seperate area and had a wonderful experience. The two wait staff we had were excellent for the evening. The room was ready and the manager made sure we had what we needed. It was more than we expected!

A little dated inside and food is subpar. Needs a makeover and a fresh menu. Service has always been positive.

So attentive, constantly checking in without being overbearing, and giving tons of great drink suggestions. You can tell they actually know their stuff. They have such a huge selection -- so many beers, seltzers, and different drinks to choose from. If you're not sure what to get, they're happy to let you sample and help you find something you'll love. That alone makes the experience feel elevated. I also love that they have board games available, and it's just that kind of place where you can hang out for hours. We even brought our own board games, ordered pizza, and had the best night ever! It's the perfect spot for a laid-back night -- no pressure, no crazy crowds, just good drinks and great company. After going, it totally makes sense why their reviews are so strong. The Beer And Now is among the coolest places in Lisle. Has pretty good prices even on crafts. You can find pretty interesting beers among these. Easy to be fooled by the outside because it looks like a typical store full of beer. It has a major difference and that is you can try these before you buy it. They offer samples of any of the beers on tap. It feels more like a store than a bar. The atmosphere isn't that exciting but it's nice to be able to concentrate on the actual beer instead of what's going on around you. It's about $6 a pint and they offer lots of discounts. They have local breweries including Revolution and lots more. Good stuff to drink and look at. It doesn't have much room inside so it's not good for big groups. The prices are good on most things.

The curry wurst was the bomb but needed more sauce. The sauce was heavenly though. The potato pancakes great and flavorful. The cabbage rolls tasty. The liver soup not my favorite only because it had a liver taste--which if you like, then you'll like it. The saurkraut and purple cabbage the best Ive ever tasted and worth getting. The spetzel so-so, not much flavor. Son liked it though. The bread dumplings ok. More like white bread. The big pork shank that is the prize-it was good but not as stellar as we thought it would be. And we did make sure to order it crispy like it said to and it wasn't. Looked like it was a little browned but even my young son said the fat isn't rendered. I think it would have been a lot better if it had been crispy like in other pictures on here. Disappointed. It's like $35. Not cheap. The beef with sauce (sauerbraten) was good, the sauce great, the beef ok. The special that was going on, the beef roulade. Nobody liked it at all. The stuff just didn't taste good together in it. Overall, it was a good experience. The waitress Rosie was amazing, most of the food was great to awesome. The ambiance was German and cozy. Our favorites: the curry wurst sauce, the saurkraut and red cabbage and the stuffed cabbage rolls.

We went for a date night and it was honestly such an incredible experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is one of my favorite parts. It is lively and has a great energy, but it is not overwhelming or too crazy, which makes it perfect for a date night. You can actually talk, relax, and enjoy your time together, which is exactly what we were looking for. We ordered a mix of things and everything was so good. The BBQ platter with ribs, pulled chicken, mac and cheese, fries, and toast was packed with flavor and perfect for sharing. The chicken dish with mashed potatoes and greens was also amazing and really well done. We also got dessert and it was the perfect sweet ending to the night. The service was great the entire time. Our server was especially attentive and funny, which made the experience even better and added such a fun, personal touch to the night. Overall this is such a great spot and definitely one we will keep coming back to. If you are looking for a place that has a fun atmosphere but still feels comfortable for a date night, I would absolutely recommend checking this place out.

Service throughout was good and timed out well. Within 2 minutes of placing a drink order, they were brought over to our table. Food took about 10-15 mins to be prepared and brought over. Our group was in and out within an hour and 30 mins. I tried the Nashville chicken wrap which comes with a side. I went with the side salad with citrus vinaigrette. The salad was light and refreshing. Great way to get some veggies in! The wrap was delicious, crispy and toasted perfectly. All the ingredients paired well together and I enjoyed all the textures of it. I had ZERO left overs.

We made a reservation, too. Kindred is a unique place in that it's in a strip mall and you enter part of the mall to get to the front entrance of Kindred. We walked in and there was nobody at the front desk but a sign that said Seat Yourself. We walk into the bar (b/c that was all we saw) and the bartender gives us the option of a table in the corner or a table right next to the bathroom. We noticed tables right by the window that were open, but those apparently weren't available. We took the corner. We sat and a waitress brought us menus. I asked about the Restaurant Week. She said she knew it was going on, but didn't know what the options were. She was very nice about it, but I had to prod her to find a menu for it. She came back a few minutes later for our drink order and I asked again for the Restaurant Week menu and she again alluded to not knowing what it was. I dropped it but if your restaurant is offering it - your staff should know what is on it and should promote it. Drinks...I ordered a martini - my husband said "diet coke or coke zero." She said - we don't have that. He then said "diet pepsi". She said - they have RC Cola Zero. My husband and I look at each other and we're like "ugh.". Only having RC as your pop of choice is an indicator to us of cheapness/not great food. Skip ahead - another couple comes into the bar at that point and the bartender offers the couple the table by the bathroom. The couple pointed to the tables by the window and I think the bartender said they were reserved. The couple said they had a reservation tonight. I couldn't catch the rest, but they ending up sitting at the table by the restroom. Very confusing. Then - it all made sense - a family of 5 came into the bar...(b/c still no person at the front desk and the seat yourself sign) - said they had a reservation and all of a sudden, someone appears and seats them in a completely different room. Apparently - there is a dining room that we all should have been sitting in. But - having no person at the front desk, a sign that says seat yourself, having an entrance in a strip mall side, and the bartender not explaining anything - was a problem. Skip ahead. Food - we got fried pickles (which were extremely salty) , STK Wrap (just okay), and Garlic Chicken bowl (little garlic). Nothing outstanding and nothing that would warrant us coming back.
