We continue to get great service at Kindred and love the atmosphere! Such a cozy local spot with decor that makes you feel like you're at someone's home. Tried the chicken tacos tonight! They were flavorful with smoky turkey and a just slightly spicy chipotle crema. Great flavors, would have loved a little guac on there too to help with dryness, but overall tasty! We wanted to like this place - but disorganization and average food let us down. We saw online they were offering Lisle Restaurant week so we thought a perfect time to try a new place. We made a reservation, too. Kindred is a unique place in that it's in a strip mall and you enter part of the mall to get to the front entrance of Kindred. We walked in and there was nobody at the front desk but a sign that said Seat Yourself. We walk into the bar (b/c that was all we saw) and the bartender gives us the option of a table in the corner or a table right next to the bathroom. We noticed tables right by the window that were open, but those apparently weren't available. We took the corner. We sat and a waitress brought us menus. I asked about the Restaurant Week. She said she knew it was going on, but didn't know what the options were. She was very nice about it, but I had to prod her to find a menu for it. She came back a few minutes later for our drink order and I asked again for the Restaurant Week menu and she again alluded to not knowing what it was. I dropped it but if your restaurant is offering it - your staff should know what is on it and should promote it. Drinks...I ordered a martini - my husband said "diet coke or coke zero." She said - we don't have that. He then said "diet pepsi". She said - they have RC Cola Zero. My husband and I look at each other and we're like "ugh.". Only having RC as your pop of choice is an indicator to us of cheapness/not great food. Skip ahead - another couple comes into the bar at that point and the bartender offers the couple the table by the bathroom. The couple pointed to the tables by the window and I think the bartender said they were reserved. The couple said they had a reservation tonight. I couldn't catch the rest, but they ending up sitting at the table by the restroom. Very confusing. Then - it all made sense - a family of 5 came into the bar...(b/c still no person at the front desk and the seat yourself sign) - said they had a reservation and all of a sudden, someone appears and seats them in a completely different room. Apparently - there is a dining room that we all should have been sitting in. But - having no person at the front desk, a sign that says seat yourself, having an entrance in a strip mall side, and the bartender not explaining anything - was a problem. Skip ahead. Food - we got fried pickles (which were extremely salty) , STK Wrap (just okay), and Garlic Chicken bowl (little garlic). Nothing outstanding and nothing that would warrant us coming back. read more

Second time here. Wonderful eating on the patio on a summer night. Parking is easy. Food is delicious. Daughter ordered the filet sliders which paired well with brussel sprouts. Arancini balls: very tasty! Big hit for both of us. Reuben with fries: big fan and was excited to eat the whole thing. However, a bit too much vinegar and I wish there was more thousand island sauce. Also too much meat so I removed about half (I know this is probably a plus for most people). Fries were FANTASTIC. Love me a good battered fry and these really hit the spot. Brisket entree: partner loved this. In his word, "the brisket was mildly spicy, beautiful smoke flavor, tender but with a firm bite, and had a very wholesome/balanced flavor". The potato pancake was good but he liked the fries better. I also got a dirty Shirley, which was standard. I wish there were more cocktail choices. They did made it nice and strong. I went here with a friend last night to grab a bite to eat and catch up on life. Server came to our table in a timely fashion. Music on but at a nice level where we could talk. Those were the positives. Many tables were open but they gave us the table right by the kitchen and my chair was out in the aisle when I sat down (we moved the table over by ourselves to help alleviate this problem). I ordered a burger and asked for it to be cooked medium. After about 3 bites I reached the more center part of the burger which was cool and raw. I told the sever and she asked if I wanted another one (ummmm, yeah. I came to eat dinner there!). A second burger came out. I cut it in half and it also was raw in the middle. I again told the server, who asked if I just wanted to have them put this one back on the grill. What?!! Third burger came and it was cooked enough to eat. It was OK. Nothing special and honestly looked like it was a frozen patty. I never received an apology. I expected after the second time a manager would stop by, but no one showed up. The manager did take the burger off my bill. Overall, my friend and I decided there's nothing special about this restaurant that would make us want to go back. Disappointing place. I have never reviewed a restaurant before, being taught if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all but after our experience Thursday night, July 2nd, I am through giving a bad experience a pass. Let me begin by stating I know the restaurant business is very difficult in today's economy, but it is a two-way street. If I am spending top dollars for a meal, shouldn't I expect an attempt to make my dining experience memorable. My son and his family were celebrating our grandson's 15th birthday and asked us to join them at 6:30. Our first clue that maybe we selected the wrong establishment was entering the restaurant there was no hostess, no sign to seat ourselves and finally the bartender came over and said " give me a minute to organize a table, when looking around there were plenty of empty ones available. He took us to another dining room where we had to wait for a waitress to take our drink order. Turns out she and the bartender were the only one's working that night. After waiting 30 minutes, she came back to take our order. My wife can only eat soft food as a result of radical surgery to remove oral cancer, so she ordered a medium rare hamburger, minus the bun, lettuce, tomato and onion. I,too, ordered the burger, medium rare, minus the onion. It took a while for the food to come out, but after she delivered the plates to the table, she hustled out to serve the other tables. We did not see her again till she brought the bill. Had she returned to check on our orders I would have told her my wife's burger came out well done ( she tried to eat two bites and gave up.) My burger came out well. Not a big deal for me. I probably would not have brought it to her attention, but for my wife to have a well-done burger brought to the table and unable to eat it is inexcusable. It is also Inexcusable to not check on your table. I understand that you are the only one on the floor, other than the bartender, but you still have an obligation to see if the meal has been prepared properly and bring more water bottles. I would like to give this establishment zero stars because the staff made no effort, at all, to give us an enjoyable evening and that includes the chef. I haven't been to McDonalds in years, but the last burger I bought from them was better than the one I had last night. No second bites out of the apple for our family. Won't be back. Michael W. We just had lunch here. I heard they had some great options. The food felt like it was microwaved. Great ideas, but zero execution. I had a Nashville hot sandwich with no sauce. The chicken was dry and rubbery. No dressing on the salad. Burger was just a bun and a hockey puck. No lettuce or tomatoes. Bai ally everything was uninspired and felt like it was leftovers. We stopped for an early dinner at Kndred. It was our first time dining at this restaurant. The dining room is basically the same as the old Country House, but this restaurant updated the lobby and bar area. They installed a great overhead door in the bar that opens up in the front for fresh air to bring the outside in. We sat at the bar and Jay took care of us. He was engaging, friendly and provided great service. My husband ordered the nachos libre with steak. The menu describes it as having a "bunch of toppings" and it sure did. Jay said it's one of their popular items and I can see why. The portion was huge. Definitely big enough for two or three people to share. I ordered the flatbread with seasonal fruit. It's a goat cheese, arugula, and fruit flatbread drizzled with a balsamic vinaigrette. This day it came with four slices of apple. The flatbread was not huge and on the smaller side, divided into four pieces. The food we had was decent. The bar has a lot of seating and TVs so it's a great place to watch sports or gather with friends. I would definitely stop here again for a bite to eat. read more

This was the day after a holiday when the pub was closed. That said, the tab did not justify the quality of the food. Service was the high point. Our server was very knowledgeable, attentive and pleasant. Back to the food; my wife ordered the southwest chicken wrap. It was very black peppery and had no flavor. She liked the fries, me not so much. I had the 1 lb NYC Reuben and Cold Fries for $22. The four slices of corned beef were thick, tough and over peppery. I added ketchup to recapture some assemblage of a true Reuben. Please consider making the food more suited to a pub. Country House made a fortune here. read more

We chose Kindred for its "many vegetarian options" note on Yelp. There were no plant-based options for wraps, sandwiches, burgers, main dishes, sliders or tacos. I was hoping for a warm and delicious butternut dish on the seasonal menu; butternut squash salad was offered. My beet salad was good (not great) and my friends' meat dishes looked and smelled phenomenal. The two stars are for service and meat choices. Vegetarians be prepared to dine on cold spring mix salads, appetizers and sides. Please update your Yelp listing or your menu. read more

Although they are recently under new ownership, we just went for the first time after moving to the area. We sat at the bar and loved the ambiance of the room that is really cutely decorated. The service was way too slow. Arrived at 6:15 PM. An hour and a half later, we had to take our food in boxes in order to make it to a show at 8:00 PM. I ordered the "steak frites". At Kindred Gastropub "steak frits" is rib eye and fries. The rib eye steak arrived cut into pieces and it was just slightly warm. I hate it when a chef pre cuts a steak into pieces before serving it to me. This makes it impossible to see exactly what I am being served. Perhaps the chef pre cuts the steaks into pieces so people can eat their meals quickly, in order to get out of the restaurant quickly, after waiting an hour and a half to be served . read more

We had a great experience at Kindred- we enjoyed appetizers, entrees, dessert, and beer. The atmosphere was intimate and quiet so that we could hear each other. No clanging dishes or loud music, very pleasant. The food was very good, came out hot, and we all took leftovers home. I had the chicken bowl, my husband had the steak sandwich, and my mom had the pork sandwich. We had a chocolate crème brûlée for dessert.... Oo la la it was yummy! Limited outdoor seating and dogs welcome outside. Children's menu available. Drink and wine specials. We started with Brisket sliders. Large sliders nicely smoked brisket 3 in order. The hamburger is enormous. Bacon, brisket, and egg. Once you pick it up, don't put it down! Killer fries. The new menu item arrabbiata gnocchi well done In a red sauce with sausage and basil. "Not" Average Chicken strips could be the best chicken strips I've ever had in my life! I came here for the first time for a colleagues party. Nice ambiance, outside seating, clean and classy cool vibe. Besides the strips, the reuben rolls, little Mac beef and cheese sliders and the brisket and pulled pork sliders are all great choices! Came here with the kids on Saturday night to beat the busy crowded life of down town Naperville. I was very surprised that I haven't heard about this place before. We were seated very quickly and the super friendly waitress, Jamie, came back to take our drink order right away. We started with Basil Hayden on the rocks and a Galewood Old Fashioned. I was the one with the on the rocks...lol, apparently I've found a new appreciation for bourbon on the rocks. Our meal was a Grilled Chicken Wrap with crispy chicken and fries with a side of ranch. I was concerned that the wrap didn't seem have any condiments on it and wondered if it would be very dry. Not to worry, the flavor of all of the vegetables in it along with the cheese gave it a powerful punch of flavor. It was really good. The fries had a crispy coating on them, which complimented the flavorful ranch perfectly. The boneless chicken wings were tossed in a Caribbean jerk sauce and the crispy onion rings were thick cut onion rings with a nice breading on them. The service and food were outstanding. Nothing too difficult on the food, but it wasn't greasy, it tasted fresh and it was flavorful. Would definitely return. read more
