The prix fixe menu offered great options.The steak was cooked perfectly, the dessert was delicious, and every course felt thoughtfully prepared. Even though the restaurant was very busy for the holiday, everything ran smoothly. The hosts were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived, which set a wonderful tone for the evening. We also tried all of the Valentine's specialty drinks -- each one was a fun addition to the experience. This is a nice location and good food hindered by just ok service. When talking with folks, they are friendly and knowledgeable but after a couple of visits, the slowness is consistent. The bar is consistently too loud for conversation. Too bad the quietest table is by the street. Still, the happy hour is compelling as long as you aren't in a rush. read more

Love this new addition to the Downtown Glen Ellyn area! MK Steak + Bar are the same owners as Rebel Kitchen + Bar in Lombard. Their new spot, MK Steak, opened about two months ago and offers an elevated dining experience. It was easy to make a reservation and loved their festive decor during the holiday season. The inside has an open kitchen window, main dining room, private dining area, and separate section with a large bar area. To start, we ordered a round of drinks. Their wine selection was good and not overly marked up which was great to see! We got a bottle of the My Favorite Neighbor which two people shared. I tried both the Maple Cinnamon Old Fashioned (Holiday Special) and a French Martini. The Old Fashioned was still spirit forward and wasn't too sweet from flavors. The French Martini was definitely on the sweeter side but still well balanced. My friend also tried the Peppermint Espresso Martini (Holiday Special) which was coffee forward, slight peppermint flavor, and had a peppermint rim. All the cocktails had beautiful presentations. For food, we started with the Lobster Rockefeller. This included three pieces of lobster paired with a cream spinach and bacon topping. I loved the mixture of flavors together and the presentation. I got the MK Burger with Truffle Fries. The burger was absolutely delicious and I loved the individual ketchup bottles served with it. Note that burgers come with regular fries over wedge fries listed on menu. My husband got the Tagliatelle Bolognese which had great flavor, noodles were al dente, and was a good sized portion. My friends got the Prime Rib Dip Sandwich as well as the 6oz Filet with Béarnaise Sauce and Parmesan Crust. They also ordered the Wild Mushrooms which were more of a mushroom medley and Fingerling Potatoes. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food and loved sitting by the open kitchen to see all the other dishes come out. We saw the Beignets with Chocolate & Caramel Sauce and knew we had to order them! Overall, I absolutely loved coming to MK Steak and enjoying time with friends. There were a couple of times where service was slow but we didn't mind the extra time to catch up. Finally got to come by for dinner in person and it was so delicious! Everyone was super nice and helpful! Patio is very nice and large. Dog friendly out there too! Steak frites were delicious! Pretty upsetting experience - the ambiance was nice but the food left a lot to be desired. I'll chalk it up to this being a new-ish restaurant but I likely won't return. The bread was a pair of Pepperidge Farms Parker house rolls with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese over the top. My steak (ordered medium-rare) arrived raw. My wife ordered the steak sandwich and the barely toasted Turano bread couldn't contain the rubbery, overcooked steak inside. The tuna tartare app was actually fabulous though. Hopefully they can work through the kinks because I think Glen Ellyn deserves an upscale restaurant like what this one hopes to be. read more

We ate at MK during Restaurant Week and they had a good deal going on. We both started with the Wedge salad (good for lacking on dressing), frito mixto, Buffalo cauliflower, Steak Margarita, and the Sea Scallops. All our apps and entrees were good, and we enjoyed our wine. Our service was good and the restaurant is very quaint. While some complained about the restaurant being loud - I didn't think so - maybe in the bar area? In terms of seating - the I can see the first few tables by the door getting cold as people come in during the winter - so I would request a table away from the door. This place was really packed so we decided to check it out. The food was amazing. I did like it. The steak was so soft and melted in your mouth. The ambience was very low casual. I think but I'm still not sure if it's a dress up place or just a casual dress up however just come for the food it won't disappoint. Everything was good. My husband and I had amazing experience at MK. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, stylish, and welcoming. The service was attentive without being overbearing,the manager Sergio  and staff made sure every detail of our meal was perfect. The food was outstanding. The steaks were cooked exactly as requested--tender, flavorful, and clearly high quality. The cocktails were also fantastic and paired perfectly with the meal. Every dish that came to the table was beautifully presented and full of flavor. What really stood out was the overall experience. It's the kind of place that feels great for a special occasion but is also comfortable enough to become a regular spot. We visited MK on a Saturday night. We were able to get a table outside and the weather was very nice. The positives were the waitress and the cocktails, the limoncello spritz should be on the menu it was delicious. The negative was the manager, or owner, I am not sure who he was but he was wearing an ill fitted suit. He visited every outside table except for ours throughout the evening to check on how they liked their food, drinks etc. He even brought the table behind us a free ahi tuna appetizer which they did not even want because they were done with their meal. I am unsure if he thought we were poor or what but he did not want to engage with us at all and it was noticed. I will only return to our spend money here if this guy is not here. read more

Went here for Mother's Day and unfortunately had an extremely disappointing experience. We ordered simple items - an avocado toast and a lox sandwich - and waited over an hour for our food. We placed our order around 1:45 PM and didn't receive it until nearly 3 PM. By that point, it was mid-afternoon and the restaurant was half empty, which made the delay even harder to understand. To make matters worse, the music was unbelievably loud - more like a nightclub than the atmosphere you'd expect for a Mother's Day lunch. We had to ask twice if they could lower the music. Between the excessive wait, poor service, and completely off-putting ambiance, what should have been a special outing turned into a frustrating experience. Certainly will not be returning. Table for 4. No problem with reservation. Server's other tables were across the restaurant. Took forever to get cocktails before dinner. Would you like bread? Here comes 4 small Kings Hawaiian buns with a coating. Still waiting for that olive oil instead of butter. Then again, there was no butter for the "bread". And really. $12 for Asparagus as a side? No other sides for your filet. Service was amateurish for the price. Slow and impersonal. Didn't know the wines. "Do you want this chardonnay or the Rombauer?". There goes another $20. One person still eating, but all the dishes and silver got cleared. This is not a diner folks! Tables were not turning. Gordon Ramsey would be screaming. read more

What a wonderful experience, end-to-end. From being welcomed kindly, to having an excellent waiter who was both parts considerate and the right amount of fun, to impeccable drinks and food from start to finish. It was everything we hoped it could be and should be, and it delivered. We started with fantastic cocktails - a fantastic mezcal old fashioned that was both parts unique and flavorful, in a balanced way; mezcal can be so overpowering that it becomes the entire drink, and this hard character. The espresso martini was a perfectly crafted example of what this cocktail should be and didn't try too hard to be anything other than the drink it's supposed to be, with just the right balance of all the flavors. The tuna tartar was about as perfect as it could get. Fresh chips, and another perfect blend of flavors throughout. We've had this particular dish at a lot of places and this was easily in the top of the category. We had 2 different steaks and all you need to know is that they were both cooked to perfection, so however you like them, you'll love them here - full flavors, clearly chosen for quality and crafted with care. Every bit complimented the last, and we shared across plates. And do yourself a favor and save room for dessert. Carrot cake and beignets are fantastic, and they eat perfectly fine the next morning, too. MK Steak was an exciting trip; we love getting to add a new place to the list of favorites. read more

My fiancé and I were so eager to try this place since it was new to Glen Ellyn. The atmosphere was cool and our waitress was perfect. Unfortunately, the food was cheap quality for top dollar. Like there's cutting corners, but they just ripped the page! The bread rolls were literally Kings Hawaiian rolls and then you only got 2. I asked for water with lemon and got lime (which is fine, but everyone knows limes are way cheaper than lemons), my fiancé got the pineapple vodka, which was watered down, but did get it replaced with a Manhattan. I got the steak frites and the chimichurri was good, but it was a cheap cut of steak, like 40% of it was fat. The McDonald's drive through had better fries. My fiance had the Steak Diane which tasted ok, but again, was cheap steak so that was hard to get past. Our table was wobbly and they fixed it, but it was weird no one noticed because it was almost wobbling out the door! It was also unusually loud, like they didn't feel like putting in sound panels. It's aesthetically nice, but if you actually like food, I do not recommend. I felt robbed and we left thinking that we should've gone to Texas Roadhouse instead, lol. I feel like they are taking advantage of our neighborhood thinking they can make a pretty place with a pretty price tag, but serve poor quality food. It's a shame. read more

First time here and we thought it was okay. Very nice ambiance, we had a table that kept teetering when our arms were on it but didn't want to complain as they were very busy. Decor was sleek, fireplace on the tv, dim lights and very loud. Drinks were good I had a tequila sour and my husband had a chocolate manhattan which was a special for Valentine's Day which he enjoyed. Our waitress and servers were very nice. We got 1/2 dozen oysters which were pretty small - I have had bigger at other establishments. French onion soup looked delicious but tasting the broth was like eating gravy and very heavy handed on the red wine. Our waitress was great she actually asked for feedback on it as we didn't really eat and took it off of our bill. I got the burrata and beet salad which I would get again and my husband got one of their steaks with the creamed spinach. I must say that creamed spinach was a 10/10! We took dessert home a pc of 3 layer chocolate cake and a chocolate ganache cheese cake which were really good. Over all we would go back again to try other dishes! read more

Food was terrible. The only thing that was perfect was my salad. They show a pasta primavera on the menu, what I got was very salty and no vegetables. My friends steak was sent back once and came back even worse. The other pasta dish was also horrible. When the server came back, she saw our entrees were hardly touched. We told her why and she didn't offer to make it better. The end of the meal was worse. We gave two credit cards and noticed we were double charged on a few items. We called the manager, she came and confirmed the final bill was incorrect. No apology, just excuses on why the system double billed. read more

Haven't written a review in years but sadly this place missed. We came for my dad's birthday. It's a lot of work to schedule time with the adults, get sitters, etc. 7 reservation. Waited 50 minutes before even getting a server. They crammed us at a 4 person table. We are 6 very tall adults. Food was decent. Service horrible. One of two hostesses very rude and to top it off we asked politely for a larger table the manager never even came back after he said "I'll see what i can do." read more

My fiancé and I went to MK for their set menu during restaurant week. We loved all three courses of our meal. The buffalo cauliflower was a great appetizer. Their wedge salad was probably the best salad I have ever eaten. Hard to believe, but true. My fiancé and I loved the scallops as a main course and my steak was cooked correctly and very tasty along with a side of mushrooms. The restaurant is a bit loud, but overall the ambience was very nice for a Friday night. Special thanks to our waiter, Eric. He was attentive without constantly being on top of us. Visited twice during the first month they opened. Both meals were awful. I had hoped they were just working out the kinks so returned a third time for a drink and an appetizer. Just as bad. The owners and GM need to be much more attentive to the customers and hold the chef to a much higher standard. I can get a far better steak and martini at home. I don't mind paying more for a great and memorable meal but the prices at this restaurant do not match the quality of the food. read more
