Staff was very friendly and the service was quick, we waited maybe two minutes for our food. We ordered the brisket and chicken sandwiches. The meat was tender and there were plenty of sauces available on the table. The mac and cheese side was a bit small and just okay. For me, this was a mixed experience. I love the entire concept of this spot from the decor to the backstory to the different food options available. Prices aren't super unreasonable for BBQ and portion sizes aren't too bad either. The sweet tea and lemonade options are also delicious and service is very friendly overall. The food was only alright for me. The meats while tender weren't overly flavorful for me, in terms of smoking and in terms of seasoning. I found that I needed to use a good amount of BBQ sauces to really get enough flavoring, of which the BBQ sauces were varied and fairly good. I like how there was a wide variety of everything from sweet to spicy, from vinegar to tomato based. These were all fairly well balanced and generally bold that matched well with the meats. The sides were a bit mixed - like the cornbread was done fairly well, with a good level of sweetness and texture. The fries were fairly flavorful and lightly crisp, generally enjoyable. The mac and cheese was not super flavorful for me and thought the pasta was a bit softer than it should've been. Overall, it's an alright choice for BBQ. The overall experience is enjoyable though it doesn't stand out too much for me as I find the food fairly similar to competitors in the same price range. read more

Mission BBQ is a military themed restaurant. Their commitment to honor our heroes is obvious. There are memorabilia, pictures, flags,and more everywhere. Plus, every day at 12:00 they stop serving and play the national anthem. My husband and some friends went there looking for some good barbecue. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich macaroni and cheese and the cheeseburger with French fries. The food was very underwhelming. Only when you add sauces did get any flavor. The pork was dry, the cheeseburger was undercooked, and the macaroni and cheese was forgettable. The best part of the meal was the French fries. There is an employee who wakes around to the tables and checks on the customers and their experience, which I appreciated. There are better barbecue restaurants. read more

We were looking for a bite to eat and stumbled upon Mission BBQ. Never hearing anything about it, off we went. It's huge on the inside. A big open floor plan with memorabilia adorning the walls honoring service men and women and first responders. I have no idea if they give back to charities for them or not, but let's get into the restaurant a bit, shall we? Having never been there, we walked up to the register to order. It's a fast casual counter service establishment. The cashier, Briana, seemed enthusiastic about helping us. Okay, you can't read tone, so that was sarcasm. She was busy separating aluminum containers. Was there a "Hello. Welcome to Mission BBQ. Have you dined with us before," greeting? No, there was not. And I know you're thinking, "well, that's oddly specific." And you're not wrong because a manager realized there were people behind us in line, opened another register and said those exact words to the people behind us. My wife ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and a side salad with Italian dressing. I asked about the number of sides and if I could get a salad as a side. Briana looked at me as if looking through me and said, "you gotta pick a main first." Well, duh. I was just asking a question (I thought but didn't say aloud). So I picked the brisket sandwich. She asked if I wanted it dry or moist. I've never heard brisket offered that way before and must've had a weird look on my face as she followed it up with, "dry is lean and moist is not." Again, never heard brisket offered dry or moist before. Who would order it dry? So I got the MOIST brisket sandwich, side salad with ranch dressing and fries and a large drink. There are six different bbq sauces on the table. None are all that good. The best (and I use that term loosely) is the KC bbq sauces and the Chicago sweet sauce. So, back to the meal. My wife had the pulled chicken. To say it was salty is an insult to salt. It was insanely salty. You could taste the salt more than the chicken, or the bun, or the sauce. A deer might like it, but it was all your daily sodium in a couple bites. The salad was fresh, but the Italian dressing tasted off. We couldn't figure it out, but it was just off. My brisket was moist. It was good, but if the lean is dry, it must really be dry based how moist the other brisket was. And my salad was fresh as well. The ranch was different. It had a little kick to it. I kept thinking something was wrong with it until I figured it out and it would have been nice if they had stated that. The fries were really good. Fresh, hand cut, fried well, but not overdone with a nice seasoning. They should focus more on their fries. Maybe make a bbq version of poutine. They were that good. And the salads were really good too. Maybe offer some different add-ins for the salads. The moist brisket was good. Again, if I got the lean, how dry would it have been? I don't want to think about that. The pulled chicken was the big loser along with the Italian dressing. Oh, and our cashier. I don't think she could have been less enthusiastic for us to be there or her being there for that matter. When we're in the area again, we'll stick to something else. Maybe Portillo's, or Outback, or someplace else. We were not fans. read more

Prices and rising and quality seems to be going down. Came in recently and got a 3 meat: turkey, jalapeño and moist. The turkey was bone dry, like no liquid no juice but the flavor wanted to poke through. The sausage was weirdly not hot inside (we ate there) and the brisket was like 95% inedible greasy chunks of fat. The green beans were very good but really oily, unfortunately. Mac was dry but still flavorful. Bread pudding was amazing and cheesy potatoes delicious as well! The sausage also didn't have that smoked sausage snap that it usually has, that should have been my first clue. We've been coming here since it was just a small trailer while they built the restaurant. We love mission, the staff is great and the service truly is top notch. Hands down my favorite Bbq restaurant. The food is amazing. You can smell the bbq from the parking lot. Upon walking in you're greeted with upbeat staff and amazingly decorated walls of patriotism! . The pulled chicken was flavorful and moist, the Mac and cheese was velvety, creamy, and delicious, the green beans were on point and I kept going back for another bite! First time in a great stop, especially on this particular holiday not knowing the interior theme is service related and a memorial to the many people they gave up their freedoms for ours. I wasn't expecting a lot at first because I dont usually trust chain bbq spots but Mission BBQ really knows what they are doing. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with a side of Mac and Cheese. The pulled pork was super tender and the mac and cheese was also so good. The mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy with breadcrumbs on top. The atmosphere and vibe at Mission BBQ is very special. The military themed decor and heartfelt tributes to service members create a very unique ambiance. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. I can't say enough about this place being a veteran, they really do so much for veterans throughout the year but especially today, on Veterans Day. Free sandwiches and cake for veterans. The place was packed at 1 pm! Staff is always welcoming thanking veterans for their service. The ambiance is all about our vets. This restaurant is providing a good example for their younger employees, and how to treat our veterans. You can't see the beaming in my words here, but I am. Mission's interior concept pays homage to all military and first responders who bravely serve our country past and present. In my visit, I ordered their 3-Meat platter which turned out to be amazing! I selected the shredded pork, the beef brisket and their sausage classic No. 41 along with an order of baked macaroni and cheese on the side. Each bite seem to be more pleasant than the last. This place is my new favorite. Being a retired firefighter, the ambiance is great. The theme is geared around first responders; military, fire and police. I ordered the 3 meat platter. Moving from Texas to the Chicago burbs, one of the key questions has been where are we gonna get our barbecue fix? Mission BBQ goes on the list as a solid option. The place is nice, clean, the decor is military-themed, respectful, not over the top in any direction. Everyone was super friendly. We told them we were new in town, and they explained the menu and helped us understand the differences from what we're used to. We ordered some of everything, and they got it all right, gave us the whole selection of BBQ sauces, and even snuck in some banana pudding, just to say welcome. The BBQ is very good. I give the brisket a 4. We ordered moist, and it was nicely marbled and juicy, without being too fatty. Nice bark on it, good smoky flavor, could have been a little stronger. The sausage gets a 4 also. Good consistency, not too fatty, very nice flavor. My kids thought it was too spicy, but I thought it was great. The ribs get a 4 also. Nice flavor, could have been a bit more tender. The pulled pork gets a 3. A bit lacking in flavor, a little dry, needs to be mixed with sauce. The sides let things down a little. The potato salad was strangely seasoned, neither the creamy nor mustardy that I'm used to. We did not like it. The mac and cheese was unremarkable. The coleslaw was a bit peppery, but on the whole I liked it. Cornbread was sweet, dense but crumbly, and didn't seem to go with anything else. The surprise star turned out to be that banana pudding we didn't even order. It was delicate, fresh and flavorful, and everyone loved it. We had a great time.
