We compete in barbecue competitions and are pretty tough on barbecue joints. This is one of the best bbq places that we have been to in years. The barbecue, consisting we are Texan transplants and have had literally the best, Franklins (a lot), is actually decent barbecue and the best we've found in Illinois. And it's extremely hard to please us. But the food is really good. The staff was super friendly to everyone. I got my table and as I was getting some paper towels I hit the metal caddy and got a small cut that bled. I spoke to Chris the manager and he had a "don't care" look. I contemplated trying this place as I really thought it was similar to a local place by me "Dickeys". But we decided to stay and try it out. Much different and so happy we stayed. First, my son got the shredded chicken sandwich with an order of fries (sandwiches are Ala Carte) and then my daughter and I shared the Lil Q Platter which was over enough to feed the two of us. Got the Lil Q Platter which was the perfect amount of food for me and my husband. We had Brisket Burnt Ends, sliced brisket, doubled on the pulled pork, bbq ribs, 2 hush puppies and 2 sides; baked beans and Cole slaw. Also, got a side of bacon Mac and cheese. Everything turned out good and the bbq ribs were tender that they fell of the bone. My favorite was the sliced brisket. Food: I love BBQ. As a woman who had parent grow up in the South--this is some of the best bbq I have had in the Midwest. My bf and I along with my parents got the Papa platter. You get all the classics and premium meats with 4 sides. It definitely was enough for more than 2 people! We all had to take the left overs home. You will be given a number and it is self-sitting. They do not take reservations, so I suggest calling beforehand to get a gauge how busy it might be. Menu is simple and their signature dishes encompass the BBQ flavors of Texas,Memphis and the Carolinas. We shared the Lil Q Platter which was more than enough food for the 2 of us. You choose 2 Premium meats,2 Smoked meats,Ribs,2 sides and hush puppies. We chose sliced brisket which just melted in your mouth,Brisket burnt ends which was probably the best burnt ends ever had,pulled pork which is the staple of any BBQ platter and smoked turkey which was moist and very flavorful. Several sauce offerings are on each table along with a roll of paper towels and there is a station with utensils, fresh pickles and take away containers for the leftovers. I did one of those platters to try several items at a time. It was very filling. The Memphis wings were delicious on their own. No additional sauce needed. They were crispy and flavorful. Turkey had that nice smokiness to it, it was moist, and didn't require a lot of chewing. I can't remember if I got pulled chicken or pulled pork. There was a good amount and I used the sauces to add more flavor. It's a tie between the North Carolina and the Memphis sauce for me. You can't go wrong with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. Received a timely msg when the order was ready for pick up. As expected, the place was busy as it was dinner time on the eve of mother's day. The girl at the counter wasn't particularly pleasant, but I see how that could happen as it would be challenging to maintain a pleasant facade when she feels overworked. upon unpacking the food at home, discovered that 12 slider buns & 4 chocolate chip cookies were missing from the family pack. Based on the prices of the individual missing items as shown on the menu, it came to about $17. So, approx. 23% of the food from the $74.99 item was missing. Although not too far from downtown Naperville, it was too much of an hassle to drive back or even call qbbq to explain the situation as the face to face experience was not very pleasant. The Qt Mac Qroni was very dry, bland, and just was not good at all. However, the baked beans, corn bread and brisket were good. Now, it seems that even at Naperville establishments, should always double check that the order is properly filled and packed. Unfortunately, today's experience just does not warrant a high mark. I have gotten a takeout from this restaurant before which was nothing memorable but when I have visited it in person I absolutely loved this place. I ordered Papa Q and it was such a well-balanced assortments of delicious meats and sides. The staff was friendly and attentive. I'm going to take one star off because my street corn was way too spicy. I can handle spicy foods no problem but really had hard time trying to eat this corn. We've eaten at Q Barbeque in Naperville for 3 years. Each time the three of us have ordered brisket burnt ends; usually was great until now. This visit the 3 orders of burnt ends weren't "burnt" at all and didn't have the rich smoked flavor we've enjoyed previously. Some of the "ends" were cut from the center of the brisket in perfect cubes, so it wasn't from the ends of the meat (though we were charged more for the ends). We were horribly disappointed in the poor quality of the meat as it was dry, tough and didn't seem to be slow smoked at all even though there was smoke in the air outside the restaurant. It's usually tender and juicy and has rich smoked flavor. More than half of the "burnt ends" were large chunks of fat, so not a good value for the price. The "platters" no longer come with sides, but appear on the receipt as "a la Carte" even though appear as "platters" on the menu board. So I'm wondering whether this is the result of new management decisions? We won't be back for the barbecue meats, but If you see someone ordering only the brussel sprouts or baked beans to go, that'll be us because they're still delicious. read more

They have great sides as well, the hush puppies (insiders still call them Q-pups) are great, mac n cheese and street corn are two other favorites of ours. The mashed potatoes and gravy was really good. The portions are large also so you don't feel ripped off. Value (A+) The prices are great. Can get a sandwich for around $8 and the papa Q platter which is a ton of food for $40. Need 2-3 people to finish the platter - it's a good value. Cost per person to get full is less than $10 per meal. That is really good for excellent bbq. As mentioned you get stuffed here for the amount of high quality food provided. Service (A) Everyone is super friendly and nice there. You order at the counter and then they bring the food to your table. Self service drinks, sauces, condiments and Togo containers. They gave both ranch and blue cheese dressing which were good. The platter is for 3-4 people so we had a lot of leftovers. A variety of meats were all good, with more wings. I hate to have to make this review...but after being LOYAL customers for the past 3-4 years...I have had enough. We have dealt with the poor customer service. We stayed when they raised their prices and no longer included a side with their sandwiches. I ordered a Pulled Chicken Family Pack and wanted to get a side of Mexican Corn. When I asked for Mexican Corn, Jessica said "Oh you can't get that with the family pack". I told her, I am reading your website right now and it says "Choose two from scratch sides (BBQ Baked Beans, Mexican Corn, Creamy Slaw, Regular Fries or Cornbread)" **See attached screenshot for proof** She proceeded to argue with me and say "I don't know what you are reading" and "I don't know what the confusion is, but you cannot get Mexican Corn with the family pack." Even though it CLEARLY states on their website that Mexican Corn is an option! And in other spots on their website there is no specification or limitations listed when it comes to the sides for the Family Pack. It just states "2 From Scratch Sides". And in Jessica words, "All of our sides are from scratch, but you can't get Mexican Corn." Even after all the back and forth, I still placed the order for the Family Pack. I asked if I could get an additional side and add on Mexican Corn? And asked how much I would need to feed 5 people. She said I would need to order a quart. I asked her how much a quart of Mexican Corn is and she said $15!!!! $15 for Corn! $15 for a side that should have been included with my meal! I should have hung up. I should have canceled my order and found some place else to eat. But again, Q is our favorite BBQ place in the area!! The Mexican Corn is one of our favorite sides! And to top it off...we were given pulled pork...when I had ordered pulled chicken. The whole experience was horrible. And I am so frustrated with the staff at this establishment. It makes me so mad because of how loyal we have been to them. How frequently my husband and I have ordered Q. For them to treat us or any customer like this is just not acceptable. Would love to give this place 5 stars. The brisket tacos and roasted Brussels sprouts are incredible. Fries are perfect. Salads are great. We've never been disappointed in the food. But let's talk about the hours. They close at 8pm every night, even on a summer weekend night downtown Naperville. Every time we've been there, we've seen multiple people get turned away. It's awkward and the customers always look annoyed. This place could stay open until 10pm every night and *easily* stay busy. Not only do they close early, they start shutting down even earlier. They shut down half their dining room around 7pm and then start cleaning up at 7:45. We had just gotten our food this past week when the staff asked us if we wanted any more sweet tea because they were going to dump it. Why couldn't this happen after they closed? Every time we've been there, we've felt rushed, like the staff wasn't really interested in giving us a great experience. This place could be an absolute gem. But it starts with serving the customer. The waitress taking orders has been with this establishment for 3 days and was super sweet. The manager, however, was not. The manager taking orders was extremely rude. She tried to serve someone who came ahead of boss and colleague and let her know they were here first and she immediately got defensive and gave them an attitude. They decided due to her response they no longer wanted to patronize the establishment. I asked to cancel my order as I was the only one that paid she would not provide me with a refund. She then told me to call the general manager the next day and when we asked for the number she said she didn't have it. When asked how we file a complaint if she doesn't provide the number and she said we could just call the store tomorrow. We asked for her name to contact the general manager and she refused to give us her name so we could submit a complaint. She was continually rolling her eyes and was very combative. Instead of attempting to rectify the issue and apologizing, she apologized to the Caucasian men behind us that we had to wait for her. She said she didn't offer to take the order for my boss and colleague because she saw them in line as a group ordering with the other cashier even though I had already ordered a meal and paid individually. She threatened to call the police on us and then proceeded to call her manager and tell him we were yelling at her as my colleague asked if she could just provide us with a number to speak to him ourselves. She stated she was a minor and it definitely showed with her lack of professionalism, rude behavior, rolling eyes and inability to provide customer service. As a black woman, I will never patronize this establishment again and you shouldn't either. The entire exchange was disgusting. This lil girl needs customer service training and training on diversity. The fact that she was apologizing to the Caucasian ppl and not us is baffling. She was like literally yelling. The location in downtown Naperville is great. When we first got there they told us the food would take 30-40 minutes because the kitchen was behind. At first we thought it was nice because they told us before we ordered but our food actually came within 10 minutes which makes me think they just didn't want us to stay because they were gonna close in an hour. There was one sweet girl that has only been there three days that was very helpful however the other Caucasian blonde coworker was giving rude looks to my group from the moment we walked in the door despite me making eye contact and smiling at her. When asked who we can talk to she told us to contact the general manager but then wouldn't give us that person's name and wouldn't provide the phone number. We asked how do we place a complaint if she won't give us the phone number and then she told us to call the store in the morning and threatened to call the police - for what?! Her non verbal facial expressions were extremely unprofessional and her tone unbecoming of anyone, let alone in the service industry. This behavior should not be tolerated by this establishment. Additionally, instead of apologizing to me or anyone in our group, she apologized to the Caucasian older gentlemen that were waiting behind us. And continued to apologize to them and make excuses to get their support of her without acknowledging any wrong doing on her behalf.
