This is a teeny hole in the wall restaurant serving Macedonian food. The branding is a bit confusing, and I wonder if it was at one point a different type of restaurant that has been lightly rebranded to the current concept. Tucked away almost between the road and some parking lots, this restaurant had fantastically fresh food and was quite different from many options in the area. I've never had Macedonian food before and would liken it to other Mediterranean cuisines. Portion sizes were generous and the meat was really the star of the show in both what I and my husband ordered. The bar was primarily bottles of beer or wine but had plenty of options. Used to really enjoy the chicken, flavorful and moist, however, this is NOT the chicken I remember. The order of 1/2 a chicken was more of a snack, the drumsticks were the size of my thumb and it had no flavor or very dry. I have been eating here for over 20 years. I went there today for the first time in over a year. No longer fresh breasted chicken! I honestly cannot believe they actually charged me for the disgusting hard chicken scraps they served me. It was so disgusting that it wasn't even edible. I was very hesitant to try this place due to all the negative reviews. I finally tried this place since it's really close to home and I'm glad I did. I called in my order for a whole chicken (8 pieces) about 30 minutes in advance and picked it up on the way home from work during the work week. The restaurant wasn't full but they seemed busy fulfilling takeout orders. My order was ready and packaged up when I arrived. I was a little concerned my food would be getting cold, but it was surprisingly very warm/hot in the packaging when I got home. The grilled chicken is heavily marinated and tender. The flavor is similar/same as chicken shawarma or kebabs I've had at Mediterranean restaurants, but even more intense. It's very flavorful and a good healthier option than fried. I didn't have any sides, so I can't comment on that. Prices are a little expensive, but I'm assuming/hoping it's better quality. The restaurant was very clean and the employees were friendly. The owner needs to Google Potato Wedges. They have them on the menu, but maybe it's made that way in Macedonia, but Potato wedges are Wedges that are normally fried. Their potato wedges they serve are small round potato's possibly boiled and covered in butter. They have a small slice down the middle that is not fully cut through, but are in NO WAY Potato wedges that most people know and want. Need to change the menu description so you don't waste money of food you weren't looking for. The Shopska salad is real good and more than enough cheese is included in the order. The chicken is no longer char-broiled. A sandwich took 20 min. Grilled only, according to waitress. Then the waitresses were eating with their hands to mouths, gnawing at wings, and didn't wash their hands. Only wiped on paper towel. Then one went to the front register and reapplied lipstick very publicly. There's a 10% charge to eat at a table. Sandwich was large but seasoned with paprika. Gold potatoes were tasty. Very disappointing. This is now a Macedonian restaurant. If you want smoky chicken, go elsewhere. read more

I'd have to say if 3,5 stars for this euphoric palate pleasing experiences tells me there's either competitor jealousy or elementary (could be due to lack of exposure) taste buds... Everything about my experience made me look forward to the next time. Staff all had ear to ear smiles, were entertaining and playful while introducing as well as educating me. Let me just say do not pass up the opportunity to experience the great food and service. If you clicked on and looked through the menu, do not be intimidated if you're not familiar with the cuisine. You will not go wrong, and when you do finally pull the trigger to try you'll kick yourself you did not try the first time it came upon this place. Everything is scratch made here. They have pride, with great reason, in everything they do here. I came upon happenstance and cannot wait to return hopefully with my special lady friend so I can try a few more menu offerings than the freeze it at 8 different entrees and sides on this visit. This place is really good in taste first time here and we loved it the Chiken is perfect and the sandwiches are delicious sloppy good though I would definitely come here again for sure. Next time we will try the pizza. The sides are good too and I don't like gravy and I forgot to ask if the mash came with it and it did but I tasted it and oh man I ate it all just right on taste so 5 stars on that and everything else. I went to Broosters today for their chicken which tastes great. The spices they use on the chicken makes it unique. The roasted potatoes were tasty. The pasta salad and zucchini and marinara were also very good. It's a healthy option as compared to other fried chicken places. Clean place, the wait is not long. The only issue I had was that no one wore a mask. The customers did, but they didn't. I wear a mask for them, they should think about their customers and wear one for us! Absolutely horrible. I've never been treated so rudely by a business. The first time we attempted to go there they were out of chicken. Are you kidding me? The second time we attempted to go we were able to get our food although they screwed up the order a little bit and we were not told there was going to be marinara on the zucchini which grossed me out. The third time we wanted to go we got there at about twenty after seven and the lady or girl behind the counter gave us a nasty look and basically said no as she shrugged her shoulders. She had chicken on the grill and basically shrugged her shoulders and went back to cooking completely ignoring us just so we'd walk out. If your business closes at 8 then it closes at 8. Lock the doors and finish up with your customers. That is the way every other business runs. Make sure that you tell people, post it on your website, put a thing on the door and make sure your customers know that they have to place an order by 7:15 if you don't want to stay late. I just can't believe how completely rude she was. So why post hours that you close at 8 and then turn people away at 7:15 to 8 o'clock? What's the point? I've been eating here since I was a kid with my Grandparents so there is certainly a nostalgic bias here but, Damn this place is the most incredible char broiled chicken ever! The flavors that come through from their marinade is unreal and the skin gets so perfectly crispy right off the grill. The sides are solid but nothing to rave about but go well with the chicken in a home-cooked kind of way. I will say, if you can eat on premises- do it because the chicken can get a little dry if its steaming all-the-way home, and if you tight wrap it to retain the moisture, the skin can get a little soggy. (I still take it home, and let the bag breathe a bit.) When you pull up in the little parking lot, the delicious aroma hits your nose like you haven't eaten for a week... wow! As I was heading out, these kids riding past on their bikes, one of them yelled out "Maaaan that smells good!" Check this local gem out! read more

The food here is mid at best. Fries are terrible and soggy. Probably won't be returning, even though I live around the block. For those that said "best shawerma ever" are sadly mistaken and need to get out more. Good dinner idea. Delicious chicken cooked over grill. Tasty and juicy. Price a little steeper than grocery store grilled chicken but worth it. Four stars because I'm not a fan of their sides , they seem bland . I do recommend getting the Texas toast, it's delicious. Remember to take some hot sauce. read more

Being from Darien, I've driven past Brooster's probably a 1,000 times since it opened in 1988! Never tried it until today (thanks to Yelp!). First impression, it's probably never been updated since 1988. Not a big deal to me as long as the food is good! We ordered a half chicken and a Malibu chicken sandwich, both with potato wedges. The flavor of the chicken is really good & not greasy at all, but the white meat was a bit dry. My chicken sandwich w/ lettuce, tomato, mayo and cheese was tasty but I found a bone in it! Bummer! The potato wedges were flavorful, closer to roasted potatoes than fries. Overall, good food and they offer larger family meals that are great deals. I think they really need to update the interior. It's been a few years since I've been back to Broosters chicken friend suggested we stop and grab a bite to eat. I ordered the half chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and broccoli rice. When the sides came with the chicken, they were not hot I mean just above room temperature I brought two sides to the counter and told the young lady that these items were not hot and her response was what do you want me to do so I asked for fries or potato wedges and she said they're gonna be just as warm as your Sides. I told her the food was not up to temp and she said oh well didn't offer me any other alternative just too bad take it or leave it. So I left it. I can understand you know food not being as hard as it should be but the attitude and the entitlement of this proves this person I looked at my receipt her name is Stephanie or Stephon. Placed the order at 6:30pm, was notified that it was confirmed and I was tracking it. The flavor was the familiar Broosters seasoning. +2 However, this was the driest Broosters I've experienced from the store. I wouldn't come back on that merit alone. In addition, I didn't quite receive a whole chicken, either-- three thighs, two drumsticks, one breast, one wing. I'm feeling a bit jipped since it was a substitution not in my favor. I got the half of chicken with zucchini marinara and a salad. It was expensive as hell for what I received. The chicken was dry AF! I HATE marinara! when she showed me the zucchini there was no red crap on it, so I thought that maybe it was a flavoring of some sort. When I got home, there was this red crap all over it!! The zucchini was cooked perfectly though. The salad had a bucket of water in the bottom of the container, but it was fresh. Over all it was crap!! Save your money and have a turkey sandwich! There's a Popeyes on Cass... Yuck, don't go to Popeyes! Go to Brooster's. I usually get the double leg dinner. The dark meat here is phenomenal. You get a couple of sides, which to me are just okay. Broccoli rice, potato wedges, salads, etc. They are just okay. You also get a nice chunk of Texas toast. I skip the soda there too, weird selection of RC products. It just isn't my thing. If you are on a budget, you can go for just the chicken. You can get a half chicken for $5 and change. The white meat seems a little dry to me, but the overall chicken is really good.
