Pulled Pork - good Sausage link - meh Mac & Cheese - better than many places, but I'd probably try a different side next time Tater Tots - sooo good! Love Matt's but lately I feel like things are off. Usually come here for the ribs which in my opinion are the best thing on the menu. Been coming here since before they had fries on the menu. Last 2 times I've gone they've been out of ribs so I've had to substitute. So I've gotten the burnt ends and a brisket slider. The brisket is decent. Very tender. With the honey sauce it's quite good. The first time I got the burnt ends they were a little fatty to be expected but honestly delicious. But this most recent time I got them I'm talking almost 80% fat. I had a huge chunk of nothing but fat no meat to be seen. I was so unsatisfied I came here to write this review. I also don't like the 1 refill with my sodas before they start charging me for refills Matt's is one of the 3 good spots in the walkable area with barrel and vine and the Mexican spot being the other 2 good spots. We found Matt's because of the smell. We were in Lemont two weeks earlier and actually said as we left that lunch, "next time we need to go where ever that smell is coming from." Great story here including the many retired firefighters working the pit and smokers. But the food is the real story. Everything was incredible but the brisket steals the show. Even the sides are good enough to write home about. We were told the potato salad is actually Matt's mother's recipe. Lucky him! The only criticism is the ordering and bill payment process. It's a little odd. We sat at the bar and had to actually interrupt the bartenders conversation to order a beer. We later learned that the process for ordering anything was to get in a line. Why have the bar then? Finally not really my cup of tea to go stand in a long line with my check and wait to pay. Why tip in this case? The food wasn't bad. I got some brisket, which was happily not too fatty. I liked the BBQ sauce. The sides we got were pretty good as well; we tried some cornbread, and some macaroni and cheese. The elote was spicy! However, service is not good. I placed the order to go. After 20 or so minutes waiting, I noticed that a couple that had come in a few minutes after we ordered were eating. I got in line to ask for ETA on our food and the employee said my food is what had been sitting at the bar for at least 10 minutes. She didn't call my name, or ask one of the multiple people restaurant employees to let me know or anything. We weren't sitting at a table; I was standing with a stroller trying to keep a toddler pacified whilst we waited. The brisket is the best I've found locally and is almost as good as the brisket I've had in Nashville! I also like the burnt ends and Texas twinkies. The service is great but expect a little longer wait during peak hours. The ambiance is a mix of dive bar and outside patio with live music. This is a cute local gem in downtown Lemont! When you enter, you decide what you want and order and then they bring the food to you. The girl taking our order was super friendly and gave suggestions. There is plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor. We decided to sit outside since it was a beautiful day, but then had to move inside due to bees. I decided on the brisket slider and a side of mac & cheese. It was all very delicious, but I didn't feel like it was filling enough my friend got the loaded nachos with brisket on top and it was a lot of food! I almost wish I would've gotten that we both enjoyed our meals and it was nice that they had three different barbecue sauces that you could choose from to put on your meal. Great local bbq spot in downtown Lemont. It's pretty straightforward, walk in, order at two counter and they'll bring it to you inside or out. Summertime outside there's often music on the weekends. Stumbled in here on a cold weekend night with the kids, it was almost 8pm but our nose lead the way. This place has casual but warm vibes and the lady behind the bar that was doing drinks and bringing out the food was super inviting. We ordered the brisket, sausage, and burnt ends and a few sides and enjoyed everything but the star was the burnt ends. It was in a sweet and smokey glaze like sauce and even the kids that aren't huge fans of meat liked it. Grabbed a banana pudding and pecan pie to go. Well this is the best BBQ around!!! The lady who I believe is the owner is beyond friendly! It's so cute inside and interesting it used to be an old bank and the vault is still there. The ribs were some of the best I've ever had. We had a combo platter. Also where you got a little bit of pork you got a little bit of brisket and they were all good. It's a cute quaint place and sometimes if you go there on the weekend later in the evening, they might be out of some of their foods. In the summer, they have a great area to eat outside and it's really nice up and down that whole street in Lemont. I highly suggest you give them a try. Went there today to place a to go order at 2 PM on a Friday. They were out of 60% of their entire menu, and said it was because they had a Catering order that day. You get Catering orders in advance so they should know what they have to prepare just for that specific order. We love Matt's, but every time we go, they're out of half of their menu. Every other barbecue place we try ordinarily has their full menu, this is the only restaurant we know that is always out of at least half of their menu items.. My suggestion is Nicks in Homer Glen, food and service is always great and all menu items are in stock. read more

Arrived at 5:40pm. Waited in line and placed order at 6:15pm. Took 40 minutes for a dirty table to open up. They had HS kids who did not verify our incomplete order and when they could not differentiate between the three Mikes who were waiting for their ofder they brought it back to the kitchen and I had to go in to get them to re-bring it out cold. We had to go to let them know there were three mikes waiting and could we please finally have our order. When we finally received it the meat item potions were sparingly and one item we paid for were automatically substituted with a tiny side of coleslaw. We were shorted 1/2 lb brisket $15 and burnt ends were substituted with two tbsp of terribly sour coleslaw. The patio garbage was overflowing and there was food, used utensils and debris on the ground and tables were not wiped between customers in the patio because of the long wait. By the time we left at 7:30pm they were out of more than half of their meat menu items and the line was still long with people who were eventually going to deal with the same. It is not a pleasant Saturday evening out. The cashier had no formula for the refund we were due for missing food and complained they had to refund $13. Made excuses and would not refund missing $15 worth of brisket and said their HS workers were excellent. I would not recommend putting up with bad service, lack of cleanliness and poor attention to detail. They couldn't get peoples names straight. They need to do better but I doubt they care. read more

We love BBQ and were excited to try a new spot. Overall, we liked the TX theming, but the food fell flat. The ribs were really dry and I could not recommend them. Matt's BBQ occupies an old bank in downtown Lemont, IL. This space is pretty cool, and even features the bank's old vault behind the bar. They also have a large, covered patio outside of the establishment that is open - weather permitting. They offer a full bar, and I was meeting an old friend for lunch recently, so we decided to "belly-up" and see how the BBQ stacks up. I don't want to come off sounding like a prick, but I smoke meats pretty much weekly in my backyard on both a drum and pellet smoker, so I rarely eat out when it comes to barbeque. However, Matt's got some good reviews, so I decided to give it a go. I was happy I did. First off , our bartender/server, Emily R was outstanding. She was friendly, made great menu recommendations and despite being pretty busy for a Wednesday afternoon, we waited for nothing. Hats off to Emily - Matt, please keep her happy because she's one of your biggest fans. We ordered some drinks and split the sampler platter for $50. We upgraded the sides from smalls to mediums and added 1 sausage and 1 Texas Twinkie (a jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese, pulled pork and wrapped in bacon). This was completely unnecessary, as we had plenty of food for the two of us, but my buddy was able to take home leftovers - which was appreciated. So what was good?? The pulled pork was spot-on. The house made sausage was delicious and reminded me of these homemade hot-links I used to get at an old cabinet smoking, carryout spot called Fitzee's on the southside. Simply delicious. The mac and cheese and potato salad were both very good, and the Texas Twinkies were also a standout. Very flavorful without being too spicy. Not so good were the burnt ends - which were very dry and tough. They definitely needed sauce, and Matt's offered a Carolina vinegar-based sauce, a standard BBQ sauce and a hot BBQ sauce. I'm not a fan of any Carolina BBQ sauce, but my buddy is, and he said it was good. I liked the other two sauces, but neither stood out. I'm also a believer that good BBQ doesn't need sauce, and most of our platter did not - which is also good!! Unfortunately, the brisket was just okay. It also required sauce as it was pretty dry as well. So overall, I would definitely reccomend Matt's. The place had a great vibe. Picked up a load of barbeque at Matt's on Saturday for the NFL\WWF Match between the Monsters of the Chicago Midway and the Packers of the Wisconsin Green Bay. Vegas money must have been on the Bears! I had not been to Matt's in a while and after Sunday's smorgasbord, I'll not repeat the mistake. We started off with Smoked Wings and Texas Twinkies (Bacon Wrapped-Brisket and Cheese Stuffed Jalapenos). Great flavor and heat! We also had some of the best Baby Back Ribs I have ever feasted upon. I smoke ribs weekly and these were honestly superb in every sense. The pulled pork was deployed for sandwiches for the little ones. All sauces and sides--shoutout to the PICKLES--were on point. Packaging was done with care for transport home. One of the workers even helped me out to the car with my food and tried to refuse a tip for the hand. I'll be more of a frequent flyer after this most recent visit. Great job to all the staff at Matt's! read more

Based on many high Yelp ratings, I'm going to suppose today was an off day (for me or for them) and try again in the near future. I ordered a beef brisket sandwich & fries to go. Fries were fine, but the brisket was very dry. I'm a fan of Station One Smokehouse in Plainfield, but am always hoping to find something equally as satisfying closer to home. This didn't do it. Besides being dry, the smokiness taste that I so enjoy in these type sandwiches was barely noticeable. No choice of sauces, but the default one that came with the sandwich was fine, and helped moisten the dryness somewhat (but that's not the sauce's job). But again, must be an off day. read more

This place is a very decent choice and worth a try if you are in the historic Lemont downtown. No frills here though with this goin'-for-the "Texasy"could be honky tonk-ish/Kansas City-ish-vibe--handwritten menu taped to the wall and duct tape color coding of your bbq sauce squeeze bottle (duct tape color key duct taped to the kitchen door). Long, plain wood tables and high-top chairs dominate the dining inside with lots of picnic style seating outside. Nice selection of standard (e.g., Shiner) beers with some seasonal on tap served in a small Ball jar. Brisket, pulled pork, burgers all good--a little pricey for the quantity of what you get but good nevertheless (need sturdier, and larger buns to hold the meat--the soft, doughy Jewel hamburger buns aren't a good holder and for $15 just for the no frills sandwich and small plastic cup of slaw there probably is some room there). Tater tots and elote are nice additions but will push your meal up and if you have a beer or soda or two you start to climb up there for a boots-n-jeans style experience. Service is friendly, courteous, and prompt. The place can get a bit loud with all the hard surfaces in this tin-ceilinged what may have been at one time a midwestern working canal-town saloon, so you have to speak up or sit outside if weather permits. TVs with games keep you updated. All in all a no frills but very decent place where you may just make a friend--but be prepared to drop a coupla' bucks. No frills review needed. read more

This place has the best ribs I've ever eaten, bar none. That includes the long gone Bar S Saloon in Burns, Kansas, and even Beach Ave in Brookfield. The Bar S has always been my standard for ribs and Beach my standard for BBQ in general. Beach is better in other areas, but Matt has everyone beat on ribs. Anyway, these ribs were actually falling off the bone they were so tender, and the quality of the meat was excellent. Not a lot of fat or gristle, meaty, etc. Our sides were good too, I had Mac and cheese and a coke for my beverage. Ambience is nice. It's on the smaller side but most of it is long communal tables and people squeeze is pretty well. They had live music the night I was there. There's a vault inside, so presumably this was a bank at one time. They converted it but retained much of the old detail, which is pretty cool. read more
