The Cake was delicious I had 4 types of cake; Strawberry Crumble, Carmel Cake, Chocolate Cake, and Red velvet cake. Out of those 4 different cakes 3 of them were my favorite. My least favorite even though it's their best seller was the Carmel Cake. It wasn't because I didn't like it...it was just my least favorite. Over all the cake was soft and moist and man when I got home I heated the Chocolate and Red Velvet in the Microwave....lawd... Stopped at this bakery today right before closing. It's the first time we visited. Usually I bake German chocolate cupcakes for my husband's birthday, but this year I didn't get to it so we found Brown Shuga on our way home from dinner. We bought a slice of German chocolate cake, a slice of red velvet cake, and a coconut cupcake. Joe, one of the co-owners, gave my husband oatmeal cookies because it was his birthday today. How sweet! I tried everything we bought and it all was so moist and delicious. The frostings were amazing! The cakes and cupcakes were not overly sweet, so the flavors stood out. It's hard to find a place where there is absolutely, positively NOTHING bad to say. I have been to a few bakeries and I was so ready to find fault in something, especially since I have an absolute passion for baking. Would it invoke memories of home? Would their selections be better than what I can do at home? Believe me when i tell you that this place is the truth. There are not many places that understand not just flavor, but LAYERS of flavor. Combine that with great customer service and glowing personalities and you can't beat it. Everything that they have available is on display right in the front of the store in a clear case. The presentation is nice and clean and the kitchen where they prepare these treats is completely visible and absolutely spotless. To me that shows great pride in what they do. I have had the banana pudding, peach cobbler, lemon buttercream curd cake, pineapple coconut upside-down muffin, and a sample of the cream cheese pound cake. The banana pudding is great! It's not a pudding mix either. This is like your grandma used to make. The custard is made from scratch, and you can you can taste the richness from the eggs. The bits of banana throughout are a pleasant surprise. The first thing that hits you when you open the container though is the vanilla. I'd be willing to bet that the extract they use for this is either homemade, Madagascar, or Hawaiian. Regardless, smells and tastes premium. The peach cobbler - this is amazing as well. The peaches - fresh. The dough - flaky, crisp, and buttery. It's not too sweet and has just the right balance of spice - cinnamon, nutmeg, and the peaches have not lost their identity in all of that and it's all tied together by this nice, buttery finish. Top notch. Lemon buttercream curd cake was amazing. The curd is definitely the star! It's so difficult to get the balance correct and most tend to oversweeten the curd. This is well balanced. The crumb on the cake is so fine and it's very moist. The buttercream is a close runner-up. That lemon flavor is carried throughout with lemon extract and lemon zest, and the sugar is well-blended so the buttercream is smooth. Moreover, it's not at all greasy. I could go on and on but this is long enough. Overall, they believe in customer service here - they will definitely put you first and make sure that you are completely satisfied or they will do whatever they can to make it right. I'm going to start by saying I found this bakery on the Too Good To Go app. I had never heard of them but who doesn't love baked goods?! I purchased my surprise bag and figured ok if it's not great then it's still a discounted bag. For those of you who don't know about this app- you buy a discounted bag of food that's leftover or would go to waste is the basic idea. It's to help slow food waste. So we never know what we will get, but it's usually worth more than the price. I use it as a way to try places I've never had before sometimes it's not worth it some places like this hidden gem, are very worth it!!!! This little bakery is in a strip mall not too far from me and I was so surprised how often I must have passed it without realizing! Let me tell you, I will never pass up this place again, they may be a small bakery but oh man, BIG FLAVOR!!! This may very well be my new fave sweet treat place. I wish I knew about them sooner, they are amazing. In my surprise bag I received a slice of yellow cake with pink frosting I think possibly strawberry, a slice of cake that was half chocolate and half vanilla with a delish caramel frosting or glaze I'm not sure but it was heavenly. Both cake slices were SOO tender and moist, dense without being too much, buttery and so flavorful. I also received a buttery cookie that I'm not sure flavor bc my children inhaled it in seconds. They said it was "the best cookie ever" and wanted to know when we can go back for more. We will DEFINITELY be back for more regular purchases, now that I know how amazing this bakery is. The gentleman who helped us was friendly and kind, and made our trip short but pleasant. I am now not surprised at all how they have a 5 star rating, they have earned every single star and I wish I could give them an extra gold star for the epic deliciousness they have introduced me to. I will be going back probably this week to try more of their items, they had a peach cobbler that looked to die for, knowing now how well they bake I'm sure it probably is!!! I ordered a classic caramel cake for a birthday celebration. The owners and employees are so kind and the cake is simply out of this world. The frosting and filling is hand made and you can tell it's from scratch. The cake was moist and stood up on its own. We heard about a new bakery & were very excited to try since good bakeries are few and far between. We certainly were not disappointed. Excellent variety, ALL of my favorites. We chose the German chocolate cake which was excellent. We bought a piece of caramel cake but haven't tasted that yet. We had a nice discussion with the owners about buying a whole cake & the different pound cakes that change weekly. They gave us a loyalty card. Won't be long before we fill that up.
