Horrible! I ordered a Birthday cake from Gigante Bakery 140 South Bolingbrook Drive on this past Saturday for my Nieces Birthday. The cake looked good on the outside but when we went to eat it, it was horrible. Everyone was very disappointed. this is a small little bakery that sits in the more Hispanic dominated area of Bolingbrook near the Walmart supercenter in the little it is more of a Hispanic area now.. Yet it was Paczki day the 25th of Feb. also fat Tuesday 2020. and I knew the bakeries around me it was going to be forever to wait but I happen to be cruising over after having a couple quick sliders to the drive-thru at White Castle caught the corner of my eye Gigante bakery known as the giant. well here on this day I decided originally well it's too late I don't feel like waiting in line for hours and hours but as I walked up to this I saw this little sign on the door Paczki here. there was a proximately about a good six or seven flavors for Hispanic bakery that's really cool..apparently this place is known for its tres leche cake the 3milk cake which is a Spanish like Mexican Hispanic traditional dessert. and that's mainly their clientele but as I walked in I was pleasantly surprised I was greeted in a very friendly manner...told the woman I'm just going to kind of take a look around here and look at a few different things and then I saw the Paczki that were being brought out. they sure looks like the traditional she said yeah they take a little bit of time but the fact that this is the Chicago area in general and they're proud to be Chicagoans proud to take part in the ethnicities that makes us such a great multicultural City.. this is a very small bakery they serve a lot of gigantic and type of bread and small pastries they have a nice selection for a small as it is a nice awards on the wall..seems like they have a pretty steady clientele for specialty cakes and much more but I just wanted some Paczki. and I had success I left with two strawberry one blueberry and an apricot for my mom. the best part it wasn't hours and hours waiting in line like some of the classic traditional European bakeries this is just a little Hispanic bakery and they tasted great.. well I don't really buy a lot of baking stuff most of the time that's my dad that does it just a fact that it was there and was able to pick it up was very cool and the quality was great keep up the good work..well I don't live in the area my truck just get parked there it's still worked out all for the good. funny part was there were a couple of what seemed to be Europeans from the area passing through either on work or business that bought a few Paczki and were quite satisfied with no wait to say walked out the door with smiles on their face..sure you could have went into town closer to the city or the European and got the monster ones in bakeries with varieties of 50 flavors or more for the traditional day.. but to be able to get in there and get a traditional one for the most part which was really delicious which is fine. read more

This is a great bakery. I stopped here to visit my brother in the area, and come in based on reviews, and they hold up. You get a WIDE selection of options just when you step through the door. You can grab a platter and pick anything and everything you want, and the person behind the counter will box/bag it up for you. Transplant from El Paso, TX and for the last 17 years I've lived here, I've been trying my best to find a good quality, Mexican bakery that was consistent, delicious and authentic. I'm pleased to say that I've finally found that in El Gigante. The key, like any good bakery, is to find out the times they put out their different breads and cookies at their freshest. The times vary, but it seems like your best option is to go after 1130am or later in the day. Nothing is really very fresh when they open, but they bake throughout the day and put more and more fresh baked breads out during that time. Personally, I like to show up after I get out of work at 330 or later The conchas, maranitos, empanadas, and all the other various pan and pasteles are wonderful from top to bottom. They even have things I've never seen before, tried and loved. And as every Mexican restaurant should do, their prices are rock bottom. So long as you arrive in the afternoon or later when breads are at their most fresh, this Mexican bakery is an absolute oasis. read more

I rectified the cheese situation today by grabbing a real cheese danish that was light and fluffy with ooey, gooey cheese filling... apology accepted, Gigante... but please don't try to feed me fruit in the guise of cheese again. On the first trip with my Dad, we had gotten a shit ton stuff for less than $4... my Dad looked at me like there was a register error but I told him, no sir.... Mexican bakeries are not only delicious but dirt cheap. My second visit this morning consisted of me going on a cake, cupcake, cinnamon bun, watermelon cookie, doughnut, and croissant crusade... I got 2 huge serving platters of baked goods for $25... score! There's something about a panaderia that I cannot resist. It could be the self-serve format (grab a tray, some tongs, and go!), and it could also be that they are always ridiculously inexpensive for what you get. Gigante isn't flashy; you're greeted by no one, there is a bread & sweets case on each wall, and the girl will ring up your order and send you on your way. There are also some beverages (Pepsi, Frappucino, milk) in a cooler, just in case you aren't going to make it home. The cheese danish and the tri-color cookie were so good, I considered pulling off of I-55 the other day just stop in here and get more. The danishes and cookies are the size of a human face. Skip the donuts. I don't know what I was thinking, but the dough was very dry but dense, not at all what a donut should be. What the heck? NO EMPANADAS? No me gusta. These types of pastries dry out quickly, so plan to eat them the day of purchase or the next morning. Any longer than that, and they will be stale. Everything is right around $1/each. So Gigante isn't as cheap as others, but it's still inexpensive compared to the fancy cupcake bakeries. read more

Go here if you are okay with their below average cake decoration skills but never expect any customer service. Apart from not making a simple cake order right for my significant other's birthday, they tried to scam me. So I ordered for a simple cake in the shape of 25 and asked for some fancy girly designs on top with a message. Went on the birthday evening to pickup only to have the staff rudely shout at me saying I already cancelled the cake and trying to cheat them. when I have the receipt with me the whole time, they claimed I sent someone with the receipt to cancel the order and got the money. I was also told the cake was sent back since it is cancelled. If I sent someone to cancel the cake why would I be going to pick up the cake. I insisted to talk to the person took my order and when she came I heard a different story. She said I was the one who came earlier to cancel the order and they got everything on cctv. I was like they must be super dumb to allow someone else to come in, cancel some random order and get the money which was paid by a credit card. I didn't bow down so they told I can have the cake but not money back(at that point of time I didn't ask for money). So they brought the cake that they told was sent back and it was awful. The 25 was not in proper shape, literally no designs on top of cake and they wrote the message on the cake board. I was shocked to see the cake and understood why they were creating all the drama. I could no way use that cake for a birthday surprise so asked that my money was refunded. And they told I was trying to cheat them, I can take the cake but cannot enter the business in future. They were not even courteous and told me they would call the cops on me. I lost my patience and being not at fault I called the cops. When the cop arrived and asked for the cctv footage they told him the CCTV is not functioning properly. But without any evidence they kept saying I cheated them. After showing the receipt I had with me and cops intervention they finally gave my refund on my credit card. But we wasted 2 hours in this process which entirely ruined my wife's birthday. And guess what, we never had a cake for my wife's birthday and that was the worst birthday she had in all years. When we picked up the cake it looked some what of the way I wanted it to, but not exactly. And the colors were very ugly though I know it's a Mexican bakery and they have really bright and obnoxious colors. It stayed together very nicely and taste great! Cutting it was smooth and easy. Ordered a 3 tier (all tiers separated) wedding cake for my son's wedding. Called the day before to be sure of 3 tiers, all tiers would be separated, delivery time, etc. Spoke to young man who 3 times guaranteed that the tiers would be separated and delivery at 2:00pm. They did our wedding cake and WOW. We did a "partially naked" carrot cake. Partially naked meaning the frosting is just barely put on the outside so the cake shows through - it makes it look almost like a tree trunk.
