After my 2nd time, I feel I can finally review this place. While I absolutely love the bulgogi and the loaded bulgogi fries, there was a lot that was just okay. They only offer 3 kinds of banchan when most korean restaurants fill your table with them. One of my kids really disliked the Korean ramen because the noodles were very obviously from packaged ramen. My other kid who loves bibimbap thought it was really lacking and not at all authentic. I didn't score any points by taking them here. I like the crispiness of the kimchi pancake. Most restaurants have really soggy kimchi or seafood pancakes and theirs was very crispy with nice flavor. Service is really good and the place clean. I didn't dislike it by any means. It's just not authentic at all if that's what you're seeking. read more

Really good food. Everything we tried, we enjoyed. Sweet and spicy wings were more flavorful in comparison to the soy wings however both were perfectly cooked. The kalbi is unforgettable, the flavor is similar to the Bulgogi but with a really nice sear on it. The fried rice was airy and light in comparison to Chinese fried rice. You'll find that the portions and the pricing are fair. You order on your phone and the food is served within 10-20 minutes. They give pickled daikon, Korean potato salad and kimchi as your accompaniments. It's a really nice spot, there's seating for groups, an area for a large family and for parties of 2. Fair warning- high sodium food. Drink lots of water and be prepared to feel a little dehydrated the next day. read more

Finally got around trying this after hearing a t on of mixed reviews. It's all halal, and some things were really good vs others. Upon arriving, the host asked where I wanted to sit, and I took a booth. After my party arrived, the host/server came by to inform us that we order through our phones and what are some popular dishes here. He also informed us that the tips given online are not distributed to the staff, the owners keep them. (Be sure to bring tip cash) Below are the following items we got and my personal rating: 2/5 for korokke- tasted like hash-browns- nothing crazy. 5/5- sweet and spicy wings- very good and on the spicy side more than sweet 10/5- Kalbi- we really enjoyed this dish- the meat was very tender, and the seasoning was excellent served with a small cup of rice. We had an extremely disappointing meal at this establishment. Poor service, bland food, and the price point did not match the quality of what we were served. I think there was an enormous disconnect between the kitchen and the dining room. Food took forever, with little acknowledgment from management and our server. My family and I loved this place, it's hard to find halal Korean food anywhere. There is a lot of seating. You order and pay on your phone using a QR code on the table. The food came out super quickly. We tried a variety of items, like short ribs (our favorite), soup, wings, jap chae, and rice cakes. Everything tasted so good and had a nice spicy kick to it. I loved this place because it was the only good spot for halal Korean food that was at least close to being authentic. The Kalbi was genuinely really good, as well as their hot soup dishes and the korean fried wings. It was expensive but I could justify it since it was literally the only spot that offered this type of food. However the reason for the 2 stars is the $2 price increase for certain items (like the kalbi) with no warning and a decline in quality. I had to cross check with receipts from previous vists to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. I have to draw the line for $34 kalbi, at some point you really just have to say that's ridiculous. The food has also gotten oiler and just doesn't have as much of the components that you'd expect (got tteokbokki with barely any rice cakes). You will be full but won't feel good. In addition, 3 dishes ran us practically $100, and at that price point i expect a certain kind of service and ambiance and Seoul Bites just doesn't offer that. By the way there's a new 15% mandatory dine in fee now that they also didn't disclose clearly - and i placed a tip unknowingly on top of that. The guy bringing out the food was extremely nice but i'm ordering on my phone and having to get up for sauces and little things, so it just doesn't make sense. He also got yelled at by a lady (guessing the manager) right at the front counter for a task he may have not done correctly, and that was really awkward to sit through. All that service fee FOR WHAT. They also give you the smallest amount of banchan, usually what other Korean restaurants would give maybe one person. But Soeul Bites will give you the same amount, no matter how many people are at the table. You could request more but it's not something that should be something you have to even ask for. I hope they can make things more affordable again. I understand an upcharge for halal but this is just too much. They even more than enough of a margin to cut back instead of raising prices, at this point it's clear price gouging and a total rip off. I can get impossible kalbi for less than $20 so i'll go back to that until then. read more

Came here on a Sunday night and there was no wait and no need for reservation. I got seated right away and had to scan a QR code to check the menu and order on the phone. Placed order for Kalbi, loaded fries, lamb cutlet, and sweet spicy Korean wings. Absolutely loved Kalbi and lamb cutlet but wasn't a fan of sweet spicy wings or loaded fries. Unfortunately you can't adjust the sweetness which is why I found the sweet spicy Korean wings a little on sweet side and so were loaded fries. What a find in the western burbs! There's nothing like good old fashioned Korean cooking and that's what you'll find here. I came with a friend and ordered a variety of dishes from fried chicken, kalbi, fried rice, and a seafood pancake appetizer. The quality of every dish was superb and you could tell that ingredients used were top notch. While dining, Omar, the co-owner, checked in on us to see how things were going. They charge a dine-in fee without informing customers upfront, there was no signage, and nobody mentioned it when we were seated. We only found out when it was time to pay the bill. I was working out at the LA Fitness in Lombard and came outside to a bunch of restaurants. I haven't had Korean food in a while, so when I saw this cute little place next door, i decided to go by myself and dine in. It did not disappoint! The food came out super quick!! It is a quiet, cute place that has plenty of seating for a decent amount of people (if you come with a group of friends). I ordered the veggie spring rolls (yummers!!!!) and the Korean Yakisoba with chicken and it was delicious!!! I would definitely come back and try more food! This was honestly the worst meal of my life. So expensive and so bad for no reason. These halal places will serve "sh**" on a platter and charge you $35 for it as long as it's halal certified. They should be ashamed of themselves for this. The galbi was so sweet I couldn't finish it. The tteokbokki with chicken and cheese was drowning in oil. Why did you fry the tteok and not say it's fried in the menu? I expected soft tteok like any other tteokbokki ever on the planet. The side dishes they gave were also a terrible slap in the face. Serving chicken mu when you didn't order any fried chicken is crazy. The kimchi was weird and old, like it had been sitting out for a while, the potato salad was passable. These were the only 3 side dishes offered which we had to flag the waiter down twice for a refill on the potato salad. This place is so horrid I'm sitting here writing this review while I'm still at the restaurant. Please save your money and don't come here. If you want halal Korean food just make it at home. Sadly, I didn't care for anything about this visit. The food was a miss for me. I did not like that I had to tip the service staff prior to even receiving my food. I thought a tip was based on the level of service you provided? Apparently not at this restaurant. I saw some mixed reviews so I didn't go in with really high expectations of either the food or the service but that ended up working in my favor and I was pleased with the experience. The food was flavorful, each of our dishes was good, and not overly spicy. This is very much a self service restaurant so don't expect any kind of hospitality in a traditional sense. Very friendly service! We walked in and were greeted right away. We went in not sure if we wanted to eat there-- only because I wanted to see the menu first. We were brought to the order counter to flip through a digital menu. I get it, but it's not as fun as seeing everything all laid out. But the food we ordered was DELICIOUS!! I think this may be a first of its kind, halal Korean food. My favorite item waa the Bulgogi with rice. Their kimchi is one of the best kimchis I've ever had. The chef is Korean, so it's pretty authentic. Wings were decent as well. Being that it's new, I think they still have some improvements, but overall it was good. I was really excited about the tteokbokki, but somewhat disappointed that it was fried, which dried it out, and very very oily. Again, I'm sure they will improve on their menu items as people come and give their feedback. But great concept and I hope to come back again in the near future. read more

My friend lives in Chinatown and eats Korean food all the time. When visiting, he insisted that this was the best Korean food he's ever had, especially the chicken. It's definitely very expensive, but everything here is so delicious. The spicy is perfectly spicy, the sweetness is great, and everything is served hot and fresh. My only complaint is that sometimes, the service can be quite off. I'd be missing my boba that I ordered, and almost always, no one brings us rice or refills our water. We were having lunch at Chi Tea and I decided on a whim to check out Seoul Bites to familiarize myself with the location. I was under the impression that it wouldn't open till 4 pm due to surging demand and them not being able to keep up, but to my surprise we saw people eating inside. I was already full from my Chi Tea lunch, but I decided that I was already here, so let's get some takeout. I went inside and ordered bulgogi and tteokboki using one of the self-service screens. I spoke with a gentleman named Shiraz and he was very friendly. The interior was spacious enough and well decorated. Since this plaza is large, there's also plenty of parking. The tteokboki was very interesting. It was basically a soup considering the amount of liquid, and it had a nice spiciness to it with a subtle tomato-y or ketchup-y flavor. (My wife found it too spicy, though.) The rice sticks and noodles(?) were dense and chewy. My only complaint is that the hard-boiled egg was overly cooked and rubbery. The bulgogi was like shredded beef and had excellent flavor. I found it slightly sweet. This entree included rice, kimchi, and sweet cucumbers. This was a very good dish, but rather expensive at $25. I mean, it was a generous serving, but we've gotten this quantity of beef at Middle Eastern restaurants for less money. Still, we enjoyed the food and I look forward to trying out other dishes. I'm so grateful that we have so many halal options now. Lombard was getting saturated with Arab food and burger spots, so I appreciate having a different cuisine to try.
