BNK is all right for a small ass cafe. Came in recently and we checked out yet another place for sushi in downtown Elmhurst. It only has a few tables inside but amazingly it's possible to get a seat. A lot to choose from. They have sushi and Thai platters so there's quite a variety. Choose whether you want sushi or Thai, because they happen to have both. It was lunch and we wanted to eat light. They have lots of good things. Because there's a ton of other sushi places around here, it's natural to want to compare. We got a couple rolls. It's about $6 for each. The first one we got was the Avocado Roll. It has avocado of course. This was creamy and fresh, for sure better than gas station quality. It was simple but classic. We also had the Shiitake Roll. Another good one. This is full of earthy mushrooms and was another big roll. Good stuff at yet another sushi place around here. If you don't want sushi you can get something from the Thai menu. That's something we'll try another time.

It's been a while since my last visit and I can't say I'm a fan anymore. Ordered online after work on Friday. My food was ready timely as promised, but the food and service was meh. I stood there for like 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. There was a worker at the sushi bar when I walked in. Another guy who was working takeout orders appeared after a few but I wasn't sure at first. I get that you probably wanted to put in new online orders to the kitchen before helping but not even a greeting. I got my usual shrimp pad thai again. The price went up ($15.99) and it tasted only "okay." Flavor didn't seem to pack the punch I recall and something off about the texture of the shrimp, possibly under done. 3 star experience by itself. That wasn't the worst part. Unfortunately, I also finally decided to try the sushi and totally regret it. I got the double salmon ($15) and it was a joke. The first offense: inside of the roll was salmon scraps. Just plain salmon rolls at the grocery store have higher quality fish than this. The second offense: the top was thin, small pieces of salmon. Not at all what you would expect from the fish used to layer on top of a specialty roll. Normally, it should be something closer to nigiri or sashimi pieces. You might think I'm overreacting, but no. I also had one bone and one fish scale in the sushi. I was trying to satisfy a sushi craving and this dish was upsetting. Never again. 0 star!

What an AMAZING gem! Lots of daytime light for an intimate space with three 4-tops in the main area and an alcove that can sit about 10 comfortably for larger parties if the tables should be pushed together. Let's talk food: I am a sucker for Agedashi Tofu & this by far had the best crunch with each chunky piece. I normally ask for a small bowl of rice since the tofu is swimming in broth, but there was only enough in the bottom for a good dip before eating. Then came the Thai Basil ground chicken. Just the right amount of fish sauce with the very first bite made me realize this place was the REAL DEAL!!! Stopping myself from inhaling it all because I knew I had to save myself for the Mango Sticky Rice. TBH this was my primary reason for coming in. Not all restaurants have it available. Not only was the mango perfectly ripe but the sticky sauce was just warm enough to coat every single bite! I came in with Thai on the brain but sushi is available as well, which will be for next time. Maybe. If can sway myself from their delicious Thai entrees! Meander through beautiful downtown Elmhurst and then treat yourself to some of the only amazing Thai food in the downtown area! While you're here, say hello to Bank! The restaurant name are initials for his family as well as his name (see logo pic)! So HAPPY to say I will not forget this place!

Wanted to eat something oriental food so we came here. Food was amazing. The beef noodle soup tasted so good. It was served hot. The pad thai was sweet and salty. We love the food. Would be great if they have bigger place to accomodate more dine in guests.

Went there last week with a friend when we learned that our "usual" sushi spot was closed. What a pleasant and unexpected change of plans! This place is very modest in appearance. Small intimate dining area with plain view of the sushi chef. The most accommodating and pleasant service (thank you Natalie!), and DELICIOUS and fresh sushi! I had wine (the Cabernet was very good), my friend was thrilled with the sake served with a cute glass. And the sushi was divine. Highly recommend the double salmon roll and the Elmhurst roll! My friend enjoyed many vegetarian rolls too. Can't wait to go back again soon!

This place has delicious curry! Spicy and flavorful. Med Spice for the Thai Basil Lover curry I ordered was perfect. My dining partner had Thai fried rice which he loved! We will be back. Very friendly and clean little place with super good food. A neighborhood find for us!

Chicken teriyaki bento box ($10 lunch special), comes with veggie tempura, 3pc California roll, rice ball and "salad" (sh*tty garden weeds)

BENTO BOXERS Solid weekday lunch deals can be found at this Japanese place in Elmhurst, though the quality is slightly suspect. Nichole C recommended these guys to me after her positive experience some months back. I've been to Sushi Nest not far from here (literally a 1min drive) and figured I'd give Sakana's lunch specials a shot, which they offer Tuesday through Friday from 11am-3pm. On 6/1/18, we were the only customers at noon which surprised me a bit, but whatever. Faster service for us, right? Ehhhh not really. For being the only folks in the whole damn restaurant, I felt pretty neglected :( We got an order of edamame ($4) to start, along with two glasses of hot green tea ($2 each). My better half got a sushi bento ($10) with a Philadelphia roll and spicy roll, 6pcs each. I got the chicken teriyaki bento ($10). Both of our lunches came with miso soup, as well as field greens in a light ginger dressing. The miso was fine, but the "salad" was ridiculous, as it was little more than some bullsh*t garden weeds with the tiniest hint of ginger. I'm not expecting a deluxe side salad, but c'mon. That was a weak-ass effort. Her spicy tuna was legit spicy, which we were pleased with. Unfortunately, my teriyaki chicken was teri-yucky. It looked and tasted like the poor chicken's butt, and I almost didn't finish it. I mean, I DID finish it all, but I wasn't happy about it. The 3pcs of California roll that came with my order tasted okay, yet it wasn't the prettiest. Veggie tempura accompanied that, including an onion, sweet potato, and carrot. A ball of steamed rice completed the bento. Bread = 3 Circuses = 4 * TL;DR * Maybe it's because I'm a sushi snob (more likely it's due to the fact that lots of places serve A++ bento boxes), but I wasn't thrilled with what Sakana served up. Lunch definitely wasn't horrible, just didn't live up to my expectations, and I've had way better elsewhere. Sketchy chicken teriyaki and a feeble salad, coupled with slow-ish service and no free tea overshadows the great value of a $10 bento box. Could've been a bad day for the kitchen, so I'm willing to give them another chance. Cute decor on the bathroom doors, though.

But it just kind of slipped out of my consideration for no particular reason. But today I was driving near there, headed for somewhere else, and it hit me - Bento box sounds good today. And so it goes.. Parking in this small strip mall is usually pretty easy. It is a popular choice for lunch for many people that work in this business area of Elk Grove. I think that is because in addition to the good food, the service is not only friendly, but also very efficient. That allows you to have a nice sit-down lunch and still get back to work in time. They don't rush you, but you won't have to wait long for both the food and the check. Today I did have my delicious bento box, which as others have agreed, is a great deal for lunch. But I also splurged for a "Rock' n Rol" sushi roll, which was quite tasty. My waitress was wonderful - friendly and efficient as usual. But she didn't rush me personally. She even asked me if I wanted tea. In summary, it's an excellent choice for lunch. Good food, affordable, kind people, and a nice change from a fast food drive-thru.

If you're looking for the most authentic Japanese food outside the city, seems like this and a couple other places are all in the Schaumburg/Elk Grove Village area. Highly recommend hitting their lunch menu if you can because the bento box values are so worth it for authentic Japanese food/sushi. We got there at opening for dinner on a Saturday and got there just before dinner rush! This place is such a hidden authentic gem - you can tell from the decor to the choice of seating design to the actual menu and way they cook the RICE and other dishes. They serve the same grain for sushi as they do regular rice (Tamaki gold). Quality is not skipped here. We got the agedashi tofu (must get appetizer, as it's hard to really every achieve at home cooking), house special curry katsu, the beef kurumaya gozen (bento box) (which has incredible tempura, juicy soft beef), and assorted sashimi platter (I forget the name). All come highly recommended and were well worth the price point. I am just a bit sensitive about the freshness of the sushi, but I think this is probably as fresh as you can possibly get with generous cuts outside the city. Everything down to the miso soup too was delicious - best place to take your friends/family/coworkers for an authentic Japanese meal. Parking lot available out front. Recommend also stopping by Tensuke market nearby after!
