I was highly recommend by my aunt to come here as she's been coming here for 20+ years.the staff were very friendly and I like that we can make our own salads by the pound. This place is the definitional "neighborhood gem." The menu is not easy to interpret, because there are specials and items in the display cooler that aren't on the menu. So when you order, make sure to consider what's in the coolers in front of you + what's on the menu. Looks are deceiving. The furniture, silverware, and cups and plates look like they're from the 1980s. The salad bar looks pretty unappetizing as it's weigh by the pound and various bowls of cold salad recessed against ice chips, think Sizzler when you were growing up. But the quality of the food was amazing. I love that they have fresh made egg pasta and a variety of sauces to choose from. And the lobster ravioli they were serving was absolutely delicious. I think my favorite thing was the ravioli, but I asked for it with the Alfredo sauce, which was made with cream and sherry. Pretty unforgettable sauce, and worth it. The crowd seemed on the older end - families and retired folks. The food was reasonably priced and the service was great - the staff was attentive and the gentleman who helped us clear the table and bring out a high chair for our little one earned the $20 we gave him. I'm sad to say we will be moving to Boston this week, but I'm hopeful that someone will read my review and consider coming here. I have always liked this place a lot. The food is consistently good. The complaint I have is how the prices have gone through the roof. A half order of cheese ravioli with marinara sauce was $15.87. The takeout container they came in was literally 5"X7" with 4 ravioli in it. The salad bar is almost always $20 a plate if you get more than just spring mix. Get rid of the cashier Summer, every time she takes a phone order she forgets to put part of the order in the bag. this has happened about 5 times. Then she has the nerve to blame it on the poor kitchen staff. when I looked at the receipt it was not even on the order that the kitchen had been given by her. read more

What a local gem! I wasn't sure how I would feel about this place as it's in a strip mall, but decided to try the place out. The food was amazing. We had their oven fried chicken and it was so good. The chicken was not dried, but juicy and the breading was flavorful. They have fresh bread that were so amazing. Especially the focaccia bread, soooo good! Cute very casual spot. They have a salad bar with various options but I haven't had a chance to try. They have a wide selection of really good paninis and soups (and yes they also have Italian dinner options but we went for lunch). Bit pricey these days, but always just so darned good. Salad bar is the best in the western burbs- some unique items. I get it every single time. Don't miss the little crisp crostinis at the end of the salad bar. I'd go for just those. Have actually ordered a mess of just those to go. Wine prices are a bit steep. Avoid to keep your tab reasonable. Entrees always very generous & good quality. You order at the entrance & a server brings your stuff...always very pleasant & attentive. Came here to build my own sandwich and look at the deli items. Was pleased to find fresh focaccia rolls for the sandwiches (for an up charge) and a self serve salad bar that looked great. I helped my self to the salad bar which included different pasta salads and Mediterranean vibe ingredients. I also ordered a roast beef and cheddar with their herb Mayo on a focaccia roll- grilled. Let me tell you, this focaccia roll was heavenly. I DEFINITELY will be back for the focaccia alone. It's baked with tomato and herbs and is honestly one of the best I've had. As for the salad bar, all of the ingredients looked fresh and marinated/dressed nicely. Our favorite was this pesto/Parmesan Bucatini pasta salad and their ranch dressing-- definitely homemade. This place looks like a local favorite but I don't think I would order anything much further than sandwiches and salad from reading reviews on here. I'm curious to see if you'll have the same reaction I did. I ordered a grilled chicken breast sandwich, a side of fries and a fountain drink. The total was $17.77. Wow, this should be good, right? But when it came it looked like a normal grilled chicken sandwich with fries. It came with a side of mustard, so I asked for ketchup and mayo. The guy gave me some packets of ketchup and told me the packets of mayo were by the soda machine. So as I'm sitting there tearing open packets and squirting condiments on my sandwich, I remembered I just paid $17.77 for this pleasure. The food was fine, but I could have gone to Paul's and gotten the same thing, but for $8 less. I don't mind paying for good food, but packets of ketchup and mayo don't exactly scream high end. read more

I had the signature sandwich (capicola w/pickled egglplant on peasant bread) for lunch over the weekend. The quality of the charcuterie was good, and the eggplant gave a nice acidity to the sandwich. The sandwich was served with some robust rippled potato chips. I don't know if they were cooked on site, but they were certainly of a thicker cut than the mass market varieties I've tried. Very tasty. I was pleased with the quality of my sandwich at Bernard's, though I believe that the sandwiches and burgers are a little overpriced (by about a buck) compared to the area competition. If you don't mind paying a slight premium for a quality product, then Bernard's is your place. We stopped in Saturday night and we're all pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of food. We had the pesto and gnocchi, turkey burger and bruschetta. There was a bit of a wait but as expected for a quality meal. This is not a fast food place but rather comfortable for date night or family. The salad bar looked great but we did not have it. I work in Willowbrook and am still discovering little places like this to have lunch. I had the special panini, which was ham, provolone, and tomatoes. Damn, this sandwich was good. I forgot how much I love ham in a deli sandwich, I try to order leaner meats, but I could not resist this time. My only complaint was that there was a kind of puddle under my sandwich, like when you have a pickle spear on the side. Except there was no pickle..where was this moisture coming from? I can only guess that it was from the tomatoes being pressed in the panini?? I dont know, but I dont like a soggy sandwich. Even still, it was pretty damn good.
