4/10 WAY TOO SWEET and half if it was whipped cream. Barely had shaved ice in it too.

So this may get confusing for anyone looking up reviews of this place, but it's officially named…read moreJoy Yuan Noodle. Now, the big sign above the place outside still says Joy Yee...as do the plates, the cups, the employee shirts. The food and drink menu look the same too. Pretty much the only thing that says Joy Yuan is their menu and their website. So I don't know what happened, but it's pretty obvious this used to be a Joy Yee's and some kind of management change happened, but it feels like literally nothing has changed. Which is a good thing! My wife and I used to take Joy Yee's for granted in Chinatown, going only for drinks, but their food is always solid as well. We were going to do takeout, but our kid was hungry so we dined in and got the classic beef cubes in tomato rice and salt and pepper shrimp. Dare I say...the beef cubes were better than what we remember at Joy Yee's? They were still sauced well but also were more tender and less chewy than we remember. The shrimp were large and solid as well, and not too spicy. We had to get drinks of course, and my berry/passion fruit smoothie took me back to many days walking through Chinatown. The prices are still a little higher like everything else in the world, and they could definitely do with some decor. Maybe they had to change it with the change in ownership? But service was on point and I think we'll definitely be making the drive back here.

This has always been a super solid location until a year or so ago. They changed chefs or something and the food started tasting different. Not bad necessarily, just not as good as it was. Fast forward to present time, this location has randomly closed again without any notice for 8 months. They finally re-opened this week under a new name "Joy Yuan" but inside is exactly the same. Still extremely stark, sterile, and depressing, but it still has Joy Yee branded plates? It's a little confusing. Half of the boba menu is crossed off now too. As for the food, I'd say it's mostly the same but the won ton soup took a turn for the worse. The broth almost tasted dirty oily and burnt but the wontons themselves were good. Usually the broth is super savory and garlicky, but that was not the case. We also ordered egg rolls and the size and presentation of these has changed at least 3 times since they first opened. They're big again but have that odd burnt/oily flavor to them. The chicken fried rice remains the same, the orange chicken was good as well and we decided to try the mixed mushroom chow fun which everybody enjoyed. I was also happy to see that they had the mango passion fruit freeze (add strawberry popping boba) that remains the same and is delicious. I need to try the traditional milk teas to see if they're still the same too. Service is still the same with a lot of the same staff still working there. It's not good but it's not bad, they're just efficient. This isn't a sit down place where you're catered to if that's what you're looking for. I don't know, I'm torn about the new ownership or whatever they did under the new name change. The food seems the same for the most part but it's also not at the same time. Our experience wasn't bad, and I'm willing to try it again but it seems that this place has lost its spark.

It amazes me how many good options are available in this area to get a good bubble tea and boba…read moreking is one of the smaller, but more trendy looking options with ordering kiosks, fun colorful machines with lots of lights, and very appropriate decor on the walls. Service is pretty quick after you order and prices are pretty fair. The flavor options here are a bit on the interesting side as you can get everything from a more Western style oreo smoothie to a Hong Kong favorite like the red bean smoothie. But you can also pivot over to Thai Tea or Japanese Matcha Latte. They do offer the very classic brown sugar milk tea but also offer some fun variations such as mochi and yakult. Or if you are feeling hungry you can get a bubble waffle or some ice cream. Overall, fun spot to satisfy a sweet tooth a wide variety of options to choose from and lots of fun opportunities to take some pictures.

You'll find some vending machines you can get some toys out of. There's a special cotton candy machine as well. Service is friendly and pretty fast. You can adjust the sweetness (sugar) level on the drinks, which I recommend because you wouldn't believe how much sugar you're sipping! Drinks still taste good at 30%. I got the Pu'er milk tea with milk mochi last time and that's not a drink you see too often at boba shops. All in all, add this one to your list of boba shops to check out, if you're in the area!

It wasn't overly sweet either, which honestly was refreshing. My daughter had a croissant and it was delicious, but she doesn't care for spicy cheese and there was a jalepeno cheese inside (I didn't mind though so I finished it). She also had a strawberry filled croissant which she loved! Said it tasted super fresh. Store is super aesthetic inside! Everything looked beautiful inside. Staff was also friendly and attentive. We will be back once we're in the area again.

According to staff this chain is popular in S. Korea so they decided to try the concept here. The interior is rendered in warm, soothing tones. On a cold, windy winter day though, it was a bit chilly as there is no vestibule. Cold wind can rush right in so we picked a spot closer to the self serve line. Partially self serve, you pick your delectable delight. Coffee/beverages are ordered at the counter with juices in the refrigerated case. The food was good, still fresh. Perfect for a dip in your coffee. Prices are comparable to a Starbucks so you can easily drop $20 but it's nice treat. I would probably come back though if pressed to choose between alternatives I would choose this concept's direct competitor.
