We were so impressed with Ramen 101 in San Leandro, that the hubby and I thought it was worth trying the one in Dublin as well. Recently opened, this restaurant was positively bursting with new patrons on a Monday afternoon. I nearly told the hubby we should come back another time until that wondrous smell of ramen coiled itself around me. Suddenly, there was no way in heck I was leaving without trying some.
Service at Ramen 101 is a blend of seat-your-self and typical waiting service. While you do order at the cash register, there is a server that will dictate which table you will sit at, that way you won't encounter the problem of having your order ready, but with no open table to sit at. However, this will also prevent you from "saving" a table as well.
After braving that line, the hubby and I chose takoyaki as our appetizer while for the main course, the hubby chose miso ramen, with additional corn, and I the shoyu ramen at medium spicy. The speed at which our ramen bowls was served is insane and while you'd think the taste will be compromised as a result of that, we are happy to say that that is not the case at all. My shoyu ramen was light, yet hearty, and the noodles were chewy without being tough. The chashu wasn't as tender as I was hoping, taking a bit of teeth power to tear it apart, but it was still delicious.
As for the hubby's miso ramen, the broth was full of umami flavor and while miso broth tends to veer towards the salty side, this broth was perfect enough that the hubby nearly drank it all. His poached egg was slightly deformed in terms of appearance, but had a tender golden yolk in the center.
The takoyaki was served after the ramen, which we didn't mind since each piece was so hot that we had to cool our jets before trying them. Interestingly shaped in little domes than the traditional spheres, this takoyaki had more potato than octopus with just a couple of pieces of octopus inside. However, the dough was fried well and we really enjoyed how easy it was to pop each one into our mouths. The hubby did lament at how little sauce there was though.
In terms of pricing, this Ramen 101 is pricier than its parent restaurant, by a good $0.50 to $1.00. However, the restaurant is roomier in terms of space and offers the same variety. If you don't mind the crazy crowd, Ramen 101 is certainly a place for a good bowl of steaming, delicious ramen. read more
