Decently priced sushi & food considering the extensive menu. Service was pretty quick. I found it peculiar it was a restaurant with that many options, yet you order first then sit down. I also found it a bit bizarre that all food was served in plastic to-go containers. Unsure the reasoning behind, just that it was what they were doing at the moment. The restaurant is decently sized and could get fairly loud, however there is music playing but not overly loud to where you need to over speak to your dining dates. The food was good. I would definitely come back and try the different rolls.

Almost forgot about this great take out sushi place since I have been dining in more than take outs. This time we tried dining in. The booth seats is a bit worn out and there were tape over the seats so not exactly comfortable to sit for long conversations. However, the quality of the food and price made me still give them a 5. We got the sushi bento, 2 items bento, super hamachi roll and best friend rolls. All for under $80 It's hard to get great prices sushi in the tri valley and I would say Fat Fish fits this budget. Especially they don't do a mandatory tips so I think this would be a great hangout place for teens and big groups. The server only brings your food to your table so it's not exactly a full service dining experience. I saw large groups of kids came with parents so definitely kid friendly. Highly recommend the super hamachi roll and bento boxes.

This is one of our favorite sushi spots! My fiancé and I found it by chance, and we've been going back ever since. At first, we were a bit spectacle because it's a small hole in the wall, off the beaten path. Happy we took a chance! What makes this place so much better than other sushi restaurants is that their rolls are so much bigger, and the fish is so fresh. It's just us two, so we always like to order 2 specialty rolls, and one small filler roll. We just went on 6/18/25 and ordered a Super Rainbow Roll, Volcano Roll and an Oregon Roll. We were a little bummed because we always like to order a Sapporo (either on draft or bottle), but they were all out. Which is super rare because we've came to this restaurant about 10 times and they have never run out of beer before. If this was our first time eating at this restaurant, we would have given them 4 stars instead of 5 just for that reason, but because I know this wasn't normal they deserve 5 stars! Beer with sushi is a must for us lol. Highly recommend! ** UPDATE 6/20/25 ** The owner messaged me saying he'll try to keep the beers stocked better. This makes me love them even more! Truly an amazing establishment.

A longstanding gem, the portion sizes are as large as I remember. Bento box salads are still delicious and you get quite the bang for your buck here. I believe the store has gone through a few new owners and the place feels like the original sushi spot from a decade ago. The prices are higher but still very reasonable for the massive sizes. Service very fast and large and comfy booths. Salmon teriyaki was delicious!

Honestly an east bay staple when it comes to affordable good sushi! The sushi came out super fast and my go-to is always the pink lady roll. There are a lot of options and you order and pay at the front before you eat. The portion are also huge so you get pretty good bang for your buck

My dad usually goes think here I think when he used to work near Stanford Health Care and sometimes brings it home back at Fremont. There was another time that we went to pick up a party platter for my sister's 18th birthday with all sorted sushi. Good times though. I decided to come here once again to reminisce. It's very quiet around here on a Sunday, but I heard that it usually gets packed during lunch time because of people from work (probably ones who work near Stanford Health Care). About the restaurant, it seems ok here but everything here seems too mediocre in atmosphere and food. The food looks too decent and something that you would you go for lunch, not dinner. It's good but the quality is average. The portion size is quite small. I wouldn't say that the food is bad, but it's just average. At the same time, it's quite affordable to get a bento box here compared to gourmet sushi's. This place seems to be more of a fast food place rather than a sit-down restaurant based on the atmosphere and food. Not a bad place to go, but would only come here during lunch.

I decided to try the ramen, which I thought was fine. The pork belly was cooked very well but overall the flavor was just okay. I had leftovers and they told me they didn't have soup to-go containers so they gave me this regular box and the soup ended up spilling.

Sushi was great - good variety of options, large menu. You order at the counter and get seated, then they bring your food to you. It's a casual spot. Ambiance is not great, you go here for the food, and not for the atmosphere. We got a variety of rolls and some with soy paper. The garlic edamame was awesome - they grilled it. Fresh chunks of garlic. Very tasty. Sashimi pieces were the most generous we've seen. Sushi rolls: SOS, Fat Fish, Heart Attack. Friends got a baked roll. Loved all the rolls, except the crunchy tempura on top was overpowering, wish there was less or it was on the side.

Fat Fish has always been my go to spot (the one in San Leandro mainly) because their sushi's have always been good and affordable. Papa Roll is my go to Roll and it was delicious. My friends and I also had the Good Boy Roll, which was very similar to the Papa Roll but without the Tempura flakes on top. We did try something new, their Ramen. We tried their Spicy Black Truffle ramen... and the pork belly in the soup was mouth watering. The slight char on it gave it that nice crisp and it really soaked up the soup which made it very flavorful. We got there right when they opened for their dinner time and we got our food very quickly. Normally even after an hour after their dinner time, they get packed and service is okay, but it is always understandable. It was really cold in the restaurant and they didn't fully check the tables because we had a soda cup on the corner of our table. Not sure if the can make it slightly warmer because we are eating raw fish, but it was pretty freezing in there. Environment was good but the delicious and affordable food took over my experience.

"Mid Fish Sushi" might be more accurate. The sushi was kinda falling apart and stuck to the plate at the same time -- impressive, but not in a good way. You definitely get what you pay for here. The quality was very mid; not terrible, just not memorable either. The inside of the restaurant is weirdly confusing -- like a cross between a tired diner and a sushi spot that's trying its best. Dreary lighting, random booths, and just an overall "eh" vibe. The rolls look okay, but they taste about the same as they look: fine, but nothing worth coming back for. Service was fine, nothing to complain about, but nothing stood out either. The staff seemed a little checked out, like everyone was running on autopilot. It's one of those places that's okay if you're starving and nearby, but not somewhere you'd go out of your way for. It's giving "cheap date night when everywhere else is full."

I had the meal delivered so I can only speak on the food. The fish was fresh and had flavor. The bento box with chicken was very good and it was a good size portion. Everything was packaged nicely and came with all the necessary sauces, etc.

Fat Fish is my tried, trusted, and ALWAYS true spot. Best Lion King roll, best sushi rolls overall, and the prices are unmatched. Nothing misses here, ever. You genuinely cannot compete with Fat Fish, period. This place stays undefeated

Never disappoints. Their sushi comes in big sizes with reasonable prices. We love coming to this sushi place whenever we visit the livermore outlets. Good service and good ambiance. May need some updates on the seats and the wall. This place looks old but still gets a lot of customers. Will certainly come back for more.

I tend to shop nearby and have seen the restaurant but haven't been in the area during lunchtime until today. My order was packed and ready to go without much of a wait, which was nice. It didn't take long, so it's very helpful for people on a time crunch. I got the 3 item bento box with katsu chicken, California roll, and sashimi. It also came with miso soup, salad, and rice. I got it to go, so I was happy the soup was included because I notice some restaurants don't always include soup on togo orders. The katsu chicken was light and seasoned nicely, and the katsu sauce tasted a little different than normal, so maybe it's freshly made. I wasn't a fan of the California roll only because I am not a fan of the whole roll chunks of imitation crab meat but it wasn't a full deal breaker. The sashimi tasted fresh with a nice, soft, buttery texture. I still think about their sashimi at times, it's up there with some of the best pieces of fish I've eaten.

My wife ordered sukiyaki and I ordered a 3 item bento box. I had gyoza, mixed tempura and chicken katsu with a salad, white rice and miso soup. I liked all three items in my bento: the gyoza didn't have a crispy bottom but good flavor, chicken katsu was tender with a nice deep fried coating and the tempura was fried nicely (light and crispy). My wife liked the flavor of the sukiyaki and the ingredients. My son's wife had a sashimi donburi with fresh fish and my son went with a three item bento beef teriyaki, mixed tempura and three piece nigiri. I came in around 6pm and when I walked in there was 1 other table there and not busy. I would say it's a small spot that seats less than 50 people but it was nice and clean. I decided to get two rolls and a 6 piece nigiri that comes with a hand roll. Gorilla Roll - 9/10. I'm always a sucker for seared rolls. The salmon being seared gives it extra sweetness and the siracha mayo actually had a nice kick it to it and wasn't just sweet. The fried shallots on top added nice texture being crunchy with extra flavor. This was my favorite roll. Rosewood Roll - 8/10. You can taste that the fish is fresh. If you like salmon and tuna I would get this roll. What I liked about it as well was the spicy crab on top which carried a small amount of spice but adds to the flavor. Moriwase - 9/10. It comes with 6 nigiri and a hand roll. Again the fish is fresh and has good flavor. The portion was normal, definitely not small. The nigiri comes with a brush of soy sauce so no need to dip, but feel free to. I just wish it had some more wasabi cause I didn't taste any. It came with a spicy tuna hand roll which I liked a lot because it had a good kick. Service was great even though I was the only one in there after the table before me left but the lady was very nice and attentive. She even offered some home made dessert that was packaged in a cute box after having some small convo. I talked to the sushi chef and he's been making sushi for over 15 years and I could tell that he puts some passion in his craft. He told me everyone says the fish is fresh but he really tries to make the flavor known which I think he executed well. They also get their fish flown/delivered on Tuesdays/Thursday. If you're in the area I would recommend trying this spot. It's definitely a safe option and I'll be coming back to try the other items.

That said, phone sounds blasting from the kitchen does seem a bridge too far for me personally. It's just not professional and totally kills the possibility of an enjoyable meal. Service was friendly, but on the slow side. The atmosphere is super informal, featuring posters of food that is not actually on the menu. Food wise, it was OK. The miso soup was pretty expensive. The best dish by far was the futo-maki roll. Really good flavor for a vegetarian roll. The 'fresh crab' in the other roll we ordered was not good. Rice being IMO the most important element in sushi was executed well, but my chirashi had all the fish served fridge cold and with pretty rough, haphazard cuts. For the overall price of the experience, it just doesn't seem worth it.
