We had a few rolls including the vegetarian roll. I have never had a vegetarian sushi roll and this blew me out of the water!! Tempura fried yam (I think) with fresh sliced avocados and fresh sliced mangoes on top. I would go back for that. The miso soup was much better than other places. It had fresh mushrooms and was yummy. The dragon roll was full of multiple flavors. The sauce on it was very good and the eel was fresh and good. We also really liked the shrimp tempura roll. Edamame was a great starter. The chef cooked an off the menu item for us which is called Karaage Chicken. It is small pieces of fried chicken. I believe the chicken is marinated in saki. It was very interesting with unusual flavors. A tad sweet with very complex flavors. The service was top notch. It is a sweet, small, casual restaurant tucked in the corner. I was craving sashimi so I visited this place. Not a big place and it was not busy during dinner time. I wanted chicken karaage, but they ran out. Got the friend pork dumplings instead. They were good, but nothing to write home about. I would have ordered draft beer if they had any. They were accommodating as I wanted to substitute salmon with hamachi in their salmon oyakodon. I know it makes sense to have salmon as the sashimi, but I like hamachi better so I asked for it. The quality of the fish was good. The bowl was not big enough, but at least it was fresh. The sushi chef himself was very passionate about the fish - we did the 10 piece nigiri omakase that was 60$ so reasonable especially since he makes each fish unique and with sauce/toppings. We got repeats of the salmon belly (their specialty) and shima aji. Come here for high quality fish despite limited menu - it was delicious! They also gave us homemade red bean dessert which they try to do when they have enough availability for people doing the full specialty omakase. Both the atmosphere and food were disappointing. This is a casual spot which is totally fine. That said, phone sounds blasting from the kitchen does seem a bridge too far for me personally. It's just not professional and totally kills the possibility of an enjoyable meal. Service was friendly, but on the slow side. The atmosphere is super informal, featuring posters of food that is not actually on the menu. Food wise, it was OK. The miso soup was pretty expensive. The best dish by far was the futo-maki roll. Really good flavor for a vegetarian roll. The 'fresh crab' in the other roll we ordered was not good. Rice being IMO the most important element in sushi was executed well, but my chirashi had all the fish served fridge cold and with pretty rough, haphazard cuts. We visited Origin Sushi for a late-night sushi stop. It was one of the few open a bit later into the evening on a weekday. Service? 10/10!! Our server was the sweetest. Super proactive and checked in on us regularly. It was empty when we came in, but the restaurant filled up rather quickly. There's only a few tables and it's a bit of a tight space, so keep this in mind especially if you have a larger group. Between 3, we shared about 4 rolls. Everything was delicious! I forget the name, but my favorite was the one with mango, unagi, and salmon. The ingredients tasted fresh, but the food just took a bit to come out. Located next to Nikuya, Origin Sushi sits next to the right corner of the restaurant in the plaza. We were seated immediately and barely had to wait for anything. People even started to trickle in 20 minutes in and we never felt like service changed! Some things we noticed about this place was the overall cleanliness, cuteness of the cutlery, and freshness of the fish. The menu was also more on the smaller side, but had a special roll for everyone. A huge plus was how affordable it was like a special roll was $13-$16. There was even a tasting menu on your choice of fish like salmon and tuna for $22 that I would love to try... Came here around 4:30pm, so it was empty. Went with my bestie right after the Pleasanton festival on Sunday. It was nice and clean inside. Food came out fairly quick since we were the only ones. Staff was friendly and attentive. We got the Sahsmi plate 10 piece, juliet roll, and baked hamachi roll. Sashimi plate was great. The fish was decent size and so fresh tasting. However, I wish the waitress told us what each fish is when they delivered it. Juliet roll was great. Loved salmon. Miso sauce was delicious. Baked hamachi roll was only okay. I was happy to try this newly opened sushi restaurant. It's owned by the nicest family and the service was warm and attentive. It's a small, nicely decorated restaurant. The menu is simple and we tried a variety of dishes. My favorites were- Hamachi carpaccio-thick sliced hamachi topped with a slice of avocado Juliet Roll-salmon avocado and scallop topped with a sweet miso glaze. So good! With so many options in the area I decided to try this spot out that didn't have too many reviews but it had a good amount of positive reviews. I came in around 6pm and when I walked in there was 1 other table there and not busy. I would say it's a small spot that seats less than 50 people but it was nice and clean. I decided to get two rolls and a 6 piece nigiri that comes with a hand roll. Gorilla Roll - 9/10. I'm always a sucker for seared rolls. The salmon being seared gives it extra sweetness and the siracha mayo actually had a nice kick it to it and wasn't just sweet. The fried shallots on top added nice texture being crunchy with extra flavor. This was my favorite roll. Rosewood Roll - 8/10. You can taste that the fish is fresh. If you like salmon and tuna I would get this roll. What I liked about it as well was the spicy crab on top which carried a small amount of spice but adds to the flavor. Moriwase - 9/10. It comes with 6 nigiri and a hand roll. Again the fish is fresh and has good flavor. The portion was normal, definitely not small. The nigiri comes with a brush of soy sauce so no need to dip, but feel free to. I just wish it had some more wasabi cause I didn't taste any. It came with a spicy tuna hand roll which I liked a lot because it had a good kick. Service was great even though I was the only one in there after the table before me left but the lady was very nice and attentive. She even offered some home made dessert that was packaged in a cute box after having some small convo. I talked to the sushi chef and he's been making sushi for over 15 years and I could tell that he puts some passion in his craft. He told me everyone says the fish is fresh but he really tries to make the flavor known which I think he executed well. They also get their fish flown/delivered on Tuesdays/Thursday. Came here on a Friday night. We were going to go to Nikuya, but saw that this sushi place was open. Quick look on Yelp and saw the high ratings. Decided to try it. Walked in and noticed the restaurant was completely empty. Decided to try it anyways. Restaurant feels new and clean. Chicken Karage 4/5: the chicken had some sugar sprinkled on it so you got a hint of sweetness before the crunch. Good and juicy. Hamachi Carpacio 3/5: this had a bit of a fishy taste to it. It was also topped with avocado which was different. Would not order this again. Salmon Nigiri 3.5/5: good, nothing special. Salmon Belly Nigiri 5/5: this was seared on the outside with light topping. This was the best of the sushi we ordered. Warrior Roll 3/5: this was just a California roll with unagi, mango and salmon on top. Was ok but nothing special. Tuna Tuna Roll 4/5: this was good. It was topped with a very sweet mango. My wife enjoyed this one. Overall, food was good. It was a bit odd that the restaurant was completely empty for a Friday night given the high ratings. I rate this a 3.5 stars. We came here on a weekday for lunch. To my surprised, there is no lunch set menu. No wonder business seems a bit slow on a weekday lunch hour. We weren't that hungry so my friends each ordered a roll and I had the chirashi. We ordered bara chirashi, poki roll and tuna tuna roll. The fish was very fresh and everything was tasty. A note about this restaurant is they only serve sushi with a few hot food appetizers like chicken karaage and chicken wings. They don't have the everyday items like most japanese restaurants such as bentos(or food like teriyaki chicken/beef, etc) so beware of the limitations. However, if you are in for omakase, they have a tasting menu on Fri/Sat. Need to call ahead to check on availability though. Overall, this would be a good place for some tasty sushi. Checked out this new sushi place in town that just opened about a month ago and had a good experience! It's a decent sized restaurant right next to Niku-ya in a plaza with plenty of parking. The store had very simple decor and pretty causal vibe. The lighting felt a bit sterile but overall it was a nice place to dine at. The menu was very straightforward and my party ended up ordering maguro brothers, moriawase (1 handroll with 6 nigiri), and a gorilla roll, and all of them were very good. The fish quality was great, and the presentation of the food was good as well. I felt like the prices were pretty reasonable and felt like the quality was good for the price. The staff were also really friendly and tried to make conversation with us and asking us how the food was. This place is special. It's a small, family run, casual, and in an unassuming location that I visited when it was not busy. On the server's recommendation, my party of two chose the "No Hustle" at $60. The way it works is you set an amount, and it's chef's choice. This was described as the amount for "one person", and we could add on more dishes if we wanted. Our server described a sashimi dish (6 pieces), a nigiri dish (6 pieces), and one roll for that price. We also ordered miso soup ($8), edamame ($4), and we ultimately added one more sushi dish. To be honest, I was surprised and delighted to encounter this format of dining. It requires putting your trust in the expertise of the chef and letting his abilities shine. It's something that I had only heard of in high-end dining, like on Food Network or in magazines. Service was attentive, and the food came out paced as I would expect for the chef's choice format or at a high end restaurant. The fish was universally excellent and very fresh. The nigiri and roll had delightful flavor combinations that were not on the regular menu. There was the opportunity to discuss preferences, like whether we liked spicy or whether we were feeling more hungry. There were also little extras like a little vegetable nibble that came with the sashimi, a sample of chicken karage to try, and pieces of dried fruit that would have gone well with tea. We decided to order the petite yuzu cheesecake when it was offered. Next month, they are going to switch to sesame ice cream because they can't offer both. The bottom line is to not judge Origin sushi by its menu or appearance. The dining experience here can be truly superb. Note 1: I did not call ahead to find out the availability of the "Tasting Menu," so I wasn't surprised it was unavailable. They only serve the freshest ingredients, which is a principle I whole-heartedly agree with. Note 2: I think that if I had been more price conscious, it might have been a little off-putting to not know if I was going to order more dishes or if the add-on was going to be $10 or $20. I would say that you can have faith that you get the sushi that you pay for here. However, I would put this restaurant into the low $$$ category, which is not unusual given how inflation is affecting menu prices at all restaurants. read more

Wow we are so happy this place opened up in Pleasanton. There are quite a few sushi places but this one is amazing as the chef wants youbto talk to him and share your tastes, likes and dislikes and recommends based on that. We ofcourse sat down and order are thing but then got talking, learned the background of the name Origin (wants to take the experience of omakase to basics) and then on his recommendation ordered Amberjack Sashimi (pic above) and it was delicious. The host told us it wasn't completely done yet (missing the candied fruit), but could serve us our two requested portions without the fancy topping, and just charge us for one. We said ok. The cheesecake was just fine with the zested lime (?) on it. It might be a smaller portion than you are expecting though. Tasted great though.
