    Flammer Roll & 49ers Roll

The 49ers Roll tasted fresh but unfortunately the Flamer Roll was disappointing. Whatever thing they use to make the flames on the plate seem to seep through to the sushi.

A nice, cozy sushi spot in Downtown Livermore. A bit on the pricier side for sushi, but the quality is very fresh. The portion for the First Street roll is huge! Had mountains of salmon in it. We enjoyed our other rolls like the Polar bear and the Simba. The spicy garlic edamame wasnt spicy at all and didn't have much of a garlic flavor, more like a sweet chili sauce. Service was quick and very friendly!

Our go-to sushi spot. There are so many great options to choose from it can be tough! Super friendly staff though and we got the Tokyo rolls and rainbow as well and they were both good but man the Tokyo ones stole the show. Could have easily had 20 more of those rolls, highly recommend

Impeccable service, fresh sashimi, and overall delicious food! Thank you Ellen for making our dinner here amazing. My parents go here at least twice a month! And I finally get to try their favorite Japanese restaurant. The sashimi slices are thick and fresh, we got 2 deluxe plates for the party of 7. My grandma ordered the salmon collar and it was amazing. We also got the 49ers roll, and the sexy roll which I recommend as well. Well, I recommend everything honestly. Just watch out of the line, as it can get very busy during peak hours. Parking can get difficult, but it's worth all the trouble.

My first visit to Roppongi! They've been in Downtown Livermore for a while and I'd usually just pass by it all the time whenever I'm in the area. I had the chance to try it for the first time though, and ended up enjoying the food much more than I thought I would! We came with a larger group for a late Sunday lunch / early dinner, around 3-4 PM. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. It was a hot day, so we opted for indoor seating but the estimated wait was 30 to 40 minutes. Fortunately there were plenty of shops in Downtown Livermore to keep us occupied, so we decided to wait it out. Our table was ready within that estimated range. Boy were the rolls here HEFTY. The rolls were generously filled and wrapped properly and the cuts of fish were also a great size. I ordered the Mango Paradise (comes with Salmon, Avocado, Cucumber topped with Salmon, Mango, Macadamia Nuts, Unagi Sauce & Mango Sauce, Tobiko) and the roll was delicious! The fish tasted fresh, the sauce that lied on top of the roll was super tasty. I really liked how well the mango complimented the salmon. Overall, rolls were impressive but I didn't try much else on the menu. I think they can definitely improve on the service aspect of things, but otherwise it was a good experience!

This is my favorite end-of-week lunch place, to celebrate surviving another one. Up until today, I always ordered the sushi lunch, which is 4 pieces of nigiri and 5 pieces of California roll. HOWEVER, there's a better way to do that, for the same $19.95. Order a bento with nigiri, get a bigger roll, get the same yummy soup and salad (best sushi-place salad around) plus a mound of rice, and throw in a third element. In my case, veggie gyoza. It's a nice pile of food for the money, quickly delivered. Since this is in the heart of "radio-free Livermore" it would be nice if they could offer wifi. No Verizon signal to be had, so you have to actually converse with someone. Eeek!

    Cuts are like firewood.

This is a solid five star adventure, even when compared to the top sushi players in the bay area: * Sen Dai - Milpitas * Blue Fin - San Jose on the Alameda, RIP * Wasabi - Livermore Why? Fresh fish, large cuts (really large which is a critical factor in any rating) and flavor. I am writing this review a couple days after going and am getting hungry just re-living the experience. Accompanied by Mr. S. Wang, CPA, Broker, CCIM, and General Contractor, I needed the place to impress and it did. The prices are also very reasonable just like Wasabi in Livermore. Please see photos of the various cuts served and the overall spread. Tip of the day - eat sushi often. P.S. note that Amakara is no longer on the top sushi players list in the bay area. Please contact me for the extensive list of reasons that I believe have led to their demise if desired.

First off, this place isn't as busy on Sunday when the Farmer's market is around which was heaven sent. My bf, friend, and I originally wanted to go to Monica's and the wait was 1 hr 15 min. So we went to Roppongi. Plenty of tables, service was quick too. My bf and I ordered the Roppongi Roll, SF 49ers roll, Baked Lobster roll and Lion King. My friend ordered a beef udon. Then we got the chicken karaage to share. The chicken karaage was...interesting. It has rosemary which is unlike other places but in turn, not sure how I liked the rosemary. Probably could do without. Also while most places come with some form of kewpie mayo, this one used tonkatsu sauce which again, interesting combo. The usage of tonkatsu sauce is pretty good though so that was more of a good interesting. The Roppongi sushi is spicy but not overly so which was good. 49ers is a pretty standard roll all around. The fish was fresh. Now the baked rolls were amazing though. The lion king and the lobster rolls are similar to each other. Both baked and have a sauce on top. But in my opinion, the lion king roll is better. They gave plenty of fish on top and salmon was perfectly baked. I suppose my only complaint is that it seems to fall apart a bit easier than most places. So if there's a way to keep it a bit more together, that would be better. The taste and overall look is there though. If I end up back in Livermore anytime soon, this would be a place to return to.

Snow roll, kappa roll, and salad -- looks ok but not well-thought out or all that special flavor wise.

I love sushi and have heard Roppongi come up in enough sushi conversations with local friends that I decided to forgo my go-to and give them a try for take out. While nothing was "bad", I wasn't overly impressed either. My initial impression when I opened everything up was "fishy" -- and not in a good way. For the first time I had to take tuna off of my specialty roll to want to finish it, and even then it was meh. Also, the roe I had added came in a separate container, rather than incorporated in the roll. Kind of impossible to use. All in all it just wasn't anything special. I'll stick to my tried and true.

We were greeted when we arrived and told we could sit anywhere, which made the start of the visit feel easygoing. Our server was attentive throughout the meal and checked in on us regularly. We ordered several sushi rolls to share. Overall, they were okay--flavors were decent but nothing particularly stood out among the selections we tried. It satisfied the craving but didn't leave a lasting impression in terms of creativity or execution. What stood out more unfortunately was the cleanliness of the dishware and dining area. Some of the platters had dried, stuck-on bits of food, and my water cup had residue that I even tried to remove with a chopstick, but it wouldn't budge. The floors also felt sticky, which took away from the overall dining experience. I don't enjoy leaving reviews like this, but I do believe this is part of what Yelp is for--sharing honest feedback so management has the opportunity to make improvements. There's potential here with attentive service and a welcoming start, so I hope to see better attention to cleanliness on future visits.

The Wife wanted her usual for Mother's Day dinner, but has been disappointed lately by Roppongi's tempura veggies. Kiseki's offering was well cooked, and a bigger portion to boot. The miso soup tasted like every place else, but the salad dressing was too vinegary for her to finish. The sushi prices were fairly high, so I just got one roll, the Vasco. Lovely presentation, and enough food for me (along with finishing The Wife's soup and salad). Service was fine, but I'm glad we got there early, as things picked up and got slower later. The space is quite simple, nothing fancy, but clean, and they have table service. We didn't even need soy sauce or ginger--everything was already balanced and flavorful. Oysters (3.5/5) Solid. Fresh and clean, and great value for a dozen. We added "the works" for $3, which came with extra sauces--definitely worth it and added a nice variety of flavors. Uni Toast (4/5) Really good. Served on a crispy ube toast with great presentation. Definitely on the pricier side, but expected for good uni. Worth trying if you're into uni. Tuna Crudo (4.5/5) Really enjoyed this. Flavor was good, but the crispy bread was a highlight for me. Some might think it's too crispy, but I loved the texture. The wagyu juices tied everything together nicely. DIY Handrolls (4/5) Fun concept--comes with mini sheets of seaweed, rice, and hamachi so you can build your own. The fish tasted fresh and high-quality. The only downside is I wish they gave more seaweed. Cured Chirashi Don (4.5/5) The sushi rice was honestly one of the most flavorful I've had--very pronounced vinegar taste (in a good way). The fish was fresh and of high quality. Definitely a standout. Overall, this place leans on the pricier side since it's small plates/tapas style--we ended up ordering around 7-8 dishes to feel full. That said, the flavors are unique and I liked how some of the fish was lightly seared, adding a nice aroma and texture. Service was solid--our server checked in regularly. They also brought out cookies and milk for my birthday, which was a nice touch (not free--$8--but still worth it). Would come back to try more dishes
