Parking was plentiful in the strip mall shopping center. We started with the Garlic Edename. The sauce was garlic and maybe ponzu sauce with sea salt. When you run your teeth down the bean you scrap the sauce too that is yummy. I also had the Mixed Tempura which came with 2 shrimp, a crescent squash, 2 sweet potatoes, a carrot, a broccoli, and onion ring. I thought their dipping sauce was one of the best I have ever had. Thank you, we will be back for lunch for $14.00!

Flyer for what looks like LA Galbi! Gonna try it at a future visit :)

We decided to check out this new restaurant for lunch. It's in the same complex as Gene's, closer to the donut place. Parking was very easy in the shared lot. It wasn't busy, as we got there as they opened, but a few more patrons trickled in. The restaurant is extremely clean and we sat in a comfy booth. Employees were super friendly and helpful. One of our favorite Korean-run Japanese restaurants doesn't exist anymore, so DH was happy to see this one pop up. He ordered his favorite - the "Korean chirashi" ($23.00) - and it did not disappoint! It's basically different kinds of sashimi bits mixed with toasted sesame oil on top of shredded lettuce and rice, and finally topped with microgreens and masago. Fish was very fresh and it seemed like a good blend. Comes with a fantastic Korean chili sauce on the side in a squeeze bottle. Give it a try, it will also become your fave! ;) The next best thing was the Tonkotsu Ramen ($20.00). Soup base was flavorful and the pork slices were tender and coated with a soy-based glaze. Noodles were pretty good, medium firmness. There weren't a lot of toppings, but I prefer my ramen simple like this. The soft boiled egg was perfectly cooked. The Island Roll ($18) was okay, but we did catch some strange after-taste. The flavors didn't mesh well. Perhaps the salmon was a little musty or preservative taste from the shrimp? We would need to try some of their other fish items to get a better sense of what to order. Often, the sashimi items use better ingredients than the rolls. I would say the value was about average for the area. Seemed pricey for lunch, but we were totally stuffed after eating here. It was overall a very positive experience and we would love to return to try their katsu, once their special fryer arrives!

    Beautiful orchid plant in entryway.

I was in this shopping center and their $14 bento box banner caught my eye. After checking them out on Yelp I decided to eat lunch here. I'm really happy I did! One of the better bento boxes I've had. It also includes miso soup. Great value for the quality of the food. I got chicken teriyaki and shrimp & vegetable tempura. The tempura was actually the best I've had; really crunchy and not at all oily. The service was great! My hot tea was repeatedly refilled. In addition, I really enjoyed the ambiance; very chill and relaxing. What a great deal all around :)

We used to come here but we just found out that it's under new management. They still serve Japanese food and I'm not quite sure if they serve the same menu as before. I ordered the Double Salmon and the Lion King. The price is reasonable and the service is excellent. They serve a big portion and they are both delicious. I liked sushi and I enjoyed the meal that I ordered. I will come back and try their other menu.

They are not quite ready. My order was missing items (soup and rice) from bento box. It was a to go order so by the time food was on the dinner table, it was too far and too late. The wait was longer than they said. The waitress gave edamame for the extra wait. This new place took over Sozo sushi. While eating, I found a piece of black plastic thin like hair. They need better attention. They need more time to perfect things.

I wanted to try this place and give it a chance since it's the closest sushi spot to my house, but I honestly don't understand why it has such high reviews. I ordered takeout and got the katsu along with a couple of rolls, and the portions were disappointing--especially the katsu, which came with very little rice and salad. The rolls were just okay, but there was an excessive amount of tobiko on top, to the point where it felt overwhelming rather than balanced. Maybe other menu items are better, but based on this experience, I'm not sure I'll be returning.

OMG yum! I got the pork katsu for 20 bucks and you get a pretty big piece of katsu. If you are in between pork or chicken get chicken. The chicken was super juicy from the pieces my roommate let me have and it was so much better than the pork. Either way it was really good and service was great. We went around 7 on a Monday so it wasnt crowded and plenty of seating as well. Over all would come back and it s a cute place since they just opened.

I don't know how this is possible.. but Katsume keeps getting better and better. Not only is it the best sushi in the east bay, the customer service is ELITE. The owners clearly instill the importance of customer service to all their staff. I always feel so welcomed and they treat me like family every time I step foot in the door. New addition to the palette: tried the Tuna Tar Tar which was visually gorgeously presented of course. It was absolutely DELICIOUS! If you're looking for a light, quick app or meal definitely consider the tuna. Will be back soon

    Hamachi don
    Veronica L.

Attentive service but the portion for the $23 hamachi don was paltry. The pieces of fish were fresh and good but very slim and small. I didn't like their wasabi because it was too wet and pasty. Restaurant itself is clean and I liked the jazz music. Not sure if the sashimi slices for the restaurant have shrunk due to current economics but recommend the restaurant consider having the fish slices be slightly thicker with a bigger portion for the hamachi don.

Amazing spot! The sushi was super fresh and delicious. The staff were really friendly and so incredibly nice to our toddler. They immediately brought out a plastic plate and utensils, a high chair, and they even asked if it was okay to give her a piece of cake from their own birthday cake after our meal. Everything we ate was super fresh and beautifully presented. Cozy vibe, great food, and overall an awesome experience - I'll definitely be coming back!

It was great to finally find the best Japanese restaurant I've been looking for in this area for a long time. I had lunch with my parents. The atmosphere of the restaurant was modern and clean, so it was comfortable. waitress also frequently checked with customers and treated them kindly. We ordered various nigiri sushi, special rolls, and Grilled Hamachi kama. All the food was wonderful and delicious Especially the key to sushi is fresh quality fish, But the most important thing is how well-made "Shari" sushi rice is. Thanks to the right amount of rice and fresh fish sushi, I had a really delicious happy lunch and it was so busy eating that I just left a picture of the roll. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

If you are looking for a Japanese restaurant with amazing food and excellent service, you gotta try Katsume. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with modern ambiance and amazing welcoming staff. We eat sushi once a week and very picky when it comes to the freshness and quality of the fish and they delivered! Every bite was delicious from start to finish! We had the sashimi with tuna, salmon, and hamachi and it was mind blowing. Also the shrimp tempura was better than I had at a tempura omakase in JAPAN! We were so happy!!! katsume is off definitely off to a strong start with high quality ingredient and impeccable service. I'm going to come back soon!

Mom was in the mood for some Japanese the other day and I saw this place recently opened up so had to try it out. The place itself seems to be more open and remodeled from the previous owners, but now seems to be more spacious if memory serves me right. The waitress were very attentive and patient when taking our orders and grabbing our empty plates as we finished them to make more room in the table. The food itself was overall very good. The calamari had a nice crunch and the taste and flavor hit the spot. As for me, I ordered the salmon bento box and the sushi and salad were good but the salmon was a tad salty to me, but still didn't affect the taste of it too much. For me mom, she wanted her normal chicken teriyaki and all was good, decent char on the chicken and she ate a decent amount of her bento box overall. If I'm in the area, I'll definitely stop by this place again and look forward to some of there other offerings!

As long as we started ordering during lunch hours, we have 90 minutes to finish eating from the lunch menu. Yay! Weekday AYCE Lunch ($27.99): This is quite a darn deal. Doesn't matter that sashimi, sushi apps, and short rib aren't included. You still get ALL the rolls, other apps, hibachi, nigiri, and loads more. The self serve station for a variety of salads and fruits was nice. My favorites were the salmon and tuna hand rolls, thick cuts of fish! Baked salmon roll is a classic, and I loved every roll we ordered. They also have single serving ice cream with fun flavors like lime and orange. Everything came pretty quickly besides the baked rolls and hibachi, which had an anticipated wait. The tempura was elite as another reviewer raved. The clay pot rice and chicken katsu curry rice sounded really good, but I was scared of being too full lol. I'll share it with someone next time! The space was clean and they played loudish R&B. Will be back to try AYCE dinner offerings :)

Flavors and seasoning all balanced well, they put shiso leaf bits in between under the typically gamier fish and rice. Savory roe bits dot the top of some of the stronger tasting fishes. And 8pc were only $40. Salmon rolls (salmon salmon) and (orange ocean) were both good. Nice citrus hit in orange ocean but doesn't overpower - salmon salmon roll had good crisp and umami from the fried skin. The sashimi platter was solid - nothing that blew my mind but it was pretty good quality fish, only minor complaint was it was cut into oddly shaped chunks and not consistent in texture between each bite Also they gave a LOT of plum wine, not skimpy at all!

Great service by Ariel, she handled everything as a pro, even with the crazy business. Food came out with no delay. The only change that we noticed id the teriyaki beef. The rib eye was usually so tender and juicy, everybody that we invited here were amazed how tender and great they were. However, the host experience was frustrating. The Yelp waitlist wasn't working on a busy Friday night, which seemed to cause some disorganization. We were quoted a 25-minute wait for a party of three, but ended up waiting 45 minutes. During that time, multiple parties of three who arrived after us were seated first. When I checked in at 35 minutes, I was told we were "next," but that didn't seem to reflect what was happening. At 45 minutes, after checking again and explaining how long we'd been waiting, we were seated immediately. It was confusing and especially difficult with a hungry toddler. Parking: Parking can be tricky. The restaurant is located under an apartment complex with limited guest spots on the first floor of the garage. If it's full, you'll have to exit and find street parking (which is minimal) or park across Dublin Blvd and walk. Overall: This was close to a perfect experience. The food and server were great, but the disorganized wait and host interaction took away from it. Hopefully they improve their system for busy nights, especially if the Yelp waitlist goes down again.

With so many options in the area I decided to try this spot out that didn't have too many reviews…read morebut it had a good amount of positive reviews. I came in around 6pm and when I walked in there was 1 other table there and not busy. I would say it's a small spot that seats less than 50 people but it was nice and clean. I decided to get two rolls and a 6 piece nigiri that comes with a hand roll. Gorilla Roll - 9/10. I'm always a sucker for seared rolls. The salmon being seared gives it extra sweetness and the siracha mayo actually had a nice kick it to it and wasn't just sweet. The fried shallots on top added nice texture being crunchy with extra flavor. This was my favorite roll. Rosewood Roll - 8/10. You can taste that the fish is fresh. If you like salmon and tuna I would get this roll. What I liked about it as well was the spicy crab on top which carried a small amount of spice but adds to the flavor. Moriwase - 9/10. It comes with 6 nigiri and a hand roll. Again the fish is fresh and has good flavor. The portion was normal, definitely not small. The nigiri comes with a brush of soy sauce so no need to dip, but feel free to. I just wish it had some more wasabi cause I didn't taste any. It came with a spicy tuna hand roll which I liked a lot because it had a good kick. Service was great even though I was the only one in there after the table before me left but the lady was very nice and attentive. She even offered some home made dessert that was packaged in a cute box after having some small convo. I talked to the sushi chef and he's been making sushi for over 15 years and I could tell that he puts some passion in his craft. He told me everyone says the fish is fresh but he really tries to make the flavor known which I think he executed well. They also get their fish flown/delivered on Tuesdays/Thursday. If you're in the area I would recommend trying this spot. It's definitely a safe option and I'll be coming back to try the other items.

Service was friendly, but on the slow side. The atmosphere is super informal, featuring posters of food that is not actually on the menu. Food wise, it was OK. The miso soup was pretty expensive. The best dish by far was the futo-maki roll. Really good flavor for a vegetarian roll. The 'fresh crab' in the other roll we ordered was not good. Rice being IMO the most important element in sushi was executed well, but my chirashi had all the fish served fridge cold and with pretty rough, haphazard cuts. For the overall price of the experience, it just doesn't seem worth it.
