Once you walk in you are greeted with the friendliest staff ever. I've never been so impressed by the service and attitude of the restaurant. The owner is the sweetest guy you'll ever meet. He gave me a free ice cream just as a belated Mother's Day treat! I bought my food to go and I was impressed by how yummy it still tasted when I got home. Came here for a quick bite and tried the Curry Katsu Udon. It was solid and exactly what I was expecting: good comfort food, nothing too over-the-top. The wait was around 45 minutes. I ordered King Don Katsu and I was sharing with my mother in law. The size was huge. I got it with regular sauce to try. It's tomato based and no spice at all. We visited for a weekend lunch and walked in without a wait, but quickly afterward the restaurant began to fill up QUICKLY and by the time we left, there was a huge queue outside of the restaurant. The restaurant is pretty small so be prepared for a wait if you're coming at a busy time. My BF and I only ordered two things to share: the regular curry katsu and tteokbokki. Yumee Katsu (a Korean/ Japanese restaurant) is the newest addition to the Fallon Gateway plaza, taking over the former Ramen 101 spot. There aren't too many katsu spots in the area, so I was very excited to try this place! Hours from Monday through Thursday are 11:00AM - 2:30PM and then 4:30PM - 9:00PM. Friday, Sat, and Sun hours are 11:00AM - 9:00PM. The restaurant is not big but it appears to utilize the space well to fit as many tables in as legally possible. During rush hour, I can see this place getting packed very quickly as they only have about 12 tables. They do have a little tablet to the left of the front counter to put your name down. Awkward location for a tablet as it's in the middle of the restaurant (feels like it should be by the front door), but the saying goes if it ain't broken, don't fix it. [+1 star] Friendly service. Upon entering, we were greeted and seated immediately. A minute later, the waiter came back with two waters in plastic cups and a carafe. We poured our waters and it was infused with lemon (a nice touch!). Waiter explained that we can place our order using the iPad. I looked around to see that some tables had an iPad and some didn't. So just something to pay attention to. If your table does not have an iPad, you'll have to place your order with the waiter directly. [+1 star] Simple menu and food came out quickly. A very simple menu that was broken up into five sections for food - 1) Katsu items, 2) Curry items, 3) Noodle items, 4) Special items, and 5) Side items. We ordered the Spicy pork Katsu from the special items menu and the hot Yumee Udon from the noodle menu, plus a 4 pieces of cheese katsu from the sides menu. Despite it being a full house at this point, it didn't take too long for the food to come out. Whatever system they have in place, it works! [+1 star] Big portions. The spicy pork katsu came out first and we were surprised how big the portion was. It came with rice, salad, soup, curry, plus kimchi and yellow pickled radish for banchan. The katsu was cooked well. Thinly breaded and very crispy. It was a leaner cut so I think that's why it came out to be a little on the dry side. It was very tender though. My SO said that the spicy pork was great! Had a nice kick to it and that it paired well with the katsu. Definitely a hearty meal. Next came the cheese katsu side order. I think this was the best tasting and best looking item of the night. Once again, it was perfectly fried, very crispy, not too oily, and there was a great cheese pull to the mozzarella. It came with 4 pieces, though the menu online in my photo stated that it only comes with 2 pieces. If you're struggling on what to get, definitely order this and you won't be disappointed. [- 1 star] Cold curry sauce and hot udon didn't match the menu photo. My SO used the curry sauce to help with the dryness of the katsu and commented on how it was cold (like it had been prepped and sitting out for a while). The salad really isn't a salad, but more of just shredded cabbage that came with a strange tasting dressing (in my opinion). We should've asked for the dressing on the side, so that's noted for next time. My hot udon was the next to arrive. It came with fish cake, fish balls, tempura bits, and seaweed. On the menu for the hot udon, it looked like there was a scoop of something. Couldn't quite figure it out from the picture and was excited to try to see if I could determine what the item was when my order came. When my bowl arrived, it was noticeably missing the scoop of the mysterious item! Though this satisfied my udon craving, I don't think it was anything special. Next time, I will order the spicy chewy noodle or the kimchi udon! [+1 star] Attentive service. Despite it being a full house, our waiter came to our table probably about 5-6 times throughout our meal to check in on us to see if we needed anything. I was truly addicted to it because it tasted different than the ones I had at other restaurants. Moreover, a side order of the cheese katsu was a perfect amount for us as we didn't want to have too much of a heavy meal. You sign up on a tablet and enter your name, cell number and party number to get on the waitlist. The breading is crispy and the pork was still so juicy and tender. The cheese was delicious-mild and gooey in a good way. Loved the contrast in texture. Best katsu around! We've been here twice and never disappointed. First time we had the chicken katsu and the donkatsu with spicy chewy noodle. Both very tender and juicy. 2nd time was chicken katsu again and the fish katsu with a side of curry (my favorite so far!) All the dishes we've tried are not dry at all and very flavorful!
