Mixed tempura
Isaac C.

Went with some coworkers for lunch. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Very attentive without being too much. Made sure water was refilled and plates were cleared. I had a couple rolls and miso soup and we shared a mixed tempura. Everything was very good. The tempura was nice and crispy and hot, shrimp was juicy and not overcooked. The spider roll was also very pretty liked the three types of tabiko on top. The hamachi jalapeno roll was great too. The design is modern and comfortable. Plenty of seating. The parking garage has a bit of a weird layout and somewhat tight parking but there were spots available.

Amakara never disappoints! Service is always great, staff go above and beyond and also make informed and knowledgeable recommendations. Everything I order is always delicious and I always leave, already wanting to come back!

Took my grandkids to eat there between their soccer games and the ambiance and food were amazing! We lost sight of our waitress for a while but that was ok she was nice. We'll be back.

Busy lunchtime hangout in Dublin when we were there. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered lunch Ramen and a Poke Bowl. I forgot to take a photo of the Poke Bowl! But I did take a photo of the miso soup that came with it. I'm sure you all appreciate that. Check out Amakara if you're in West Dublin. Food was good yelpers!

Agedashi tofu is pretty good. Have tried several places but this place has it just right. Rainbow roll was one of their popular rolls! Recommend ordering that. Our fave was the mixed sashimi. The pieces were thick! All the fish was very fresh like they had just come out of the ocean. I was impressed. The scallop had thinly sliced like pieces in between and was the chefs kiss on it. Complement the scallops so well. None of the fish had any weird fishy taste to it at all, which was great! The tuna was beautiful. The octopus wasn't rubbery or too chewy either. Salmon was on point. The mixed sashimi is a perfect amount for two people. Our waiter was pretty attentive too and had good recommendations for us. The menu has a wide range of items and everything looked good at the nearby tables. Didn't order a drink but they had some specials and the ube drink looked really good. They also have some popular cocktails listed that all sounded tasty. Music was a decent level and the place had some good vibes. Will definitely come back and try other items on the menu. Not sure where their parking is but looks like most people parked across the street where the basset furniture store is.

Lunch special- miso soup, salad, rice, gyoza - we opted for tempura and sashimi. Tempura crispy and not greasy.

This restaurant has delicious food at reasonable prices. Service is good. They have excellent lunch and happy hour specials. Drinks are delicious. Tips... the parking lot is small with no street parking in front. May need to get parking across the street. No reservations- will not seat you until all members of your party are present. Table for two is very small- see if you can get a booth. If at a small table do not order everything at once as it won't all fit. Limited space between tables. If you are seated near a large group it can be very noisy. Unlike most fine dining establishments, when they put a suggested 20% tip, it is a tip based on the tax as well- so a 18% tip is actually more accurate for a 20% tip.

Nigiri!

I just realized that I haven't Yelped one of my favorite sushi spots in the East Bay despite uploading over 100 photos across the last decade of meals here. I still remember dining at their old location just a few blocks away. They relocated to this current location years ago with a larger footprint and more seating. It can and will get crowded here on weekend evenings. Your best bet is to join the Yelp Waitlist through the Yelp app about 30-45 minutes prior to arrival on busy nights. For starters: The grilled edmame is so good here! Order this version instead of the steamed version for a treat. The robata grill's char flavor is amazing! Although we make tempura at home, it's still nice to order it at a restaurant every once in a while. We usually order their mixed tempura for a good variety. For sushi: It's always fresh and well-made. The standard sake, hamachi, tobiko with quail egg yolk, ama ebi, toro, uni (from Mendocino the last few times), unagi, and amberjack have always been excellent! I tried their chef's choice mixed sashimi plate last time and loved it. For rolls, I've ordered the following which have all been great: Red Dragon Roll - This consists of spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, spicy may, and red onions. Lemon salmon roll - This is basically a California roll base topped w/ salmon and lemon slices Jalapeno Hamachi Roll - Hamachi and avocado inside the roll topped with jalapeno slices They do offer about 8 sushi options for vegetarians, our favorite being their tempura aspagus roll which also comes with a side of salad. There's also inari or a grilled eggplant nigiri. One plus is the option to sub for brown rice for a small upcharge. The ramen here is surprisingly delicous. The broth is on par with dedicated ramen restaurants. They offer a small kids menu with items ranging from chicken / beef teriyaki, katsu, and plain ramen or udon. It's always a hit with the kids. Great lunch combos here! The fried oysters and sesame chicken combo is my go-to. The chicken is lightly fried, perfectly crispy, and topped with a tasty sauce. They definitely make it better than most places. I love dining at Amakara. However, If I had to note one negative...it'd have to be their parking situation. That's the only drawback. While there are a few spaces behind the restaurant, most of the parking is located within the adjacent condo parking structure. My final review of 2025 goes to Amakara! As you can tell, if you've made it this far, I'm a huge fan of their sushi and entrees, plus, the service is always spot on!

Had the sashimi salad definitely good amount of sashimi only draw back is that the greens itself wasn't dressed. Maybe tossed with a little bit of rice wine or sesame dressing.

Cucumber Salad

Went here for my Bday dinner last night and they did not disappoint! The restaurant looked great and had a ton of people, and I can easily see why! The food was delicious with plenty of vegetarian options. They also had a large cocktail menu, including a seasonal churro espresso martini that I loved! We got the cucumber salad and the miso glazed eggplant to start. Both were delicious, the eggplant was something I had never tried before and we loved it! We got the spicy miso soup as well, which was delicious. For the rolls we had the Golden Shrimp and the Avocado Cucumber Roll. Both were great! For Dessert we had the tempura ice cream, which we loved and we cant wait to go back and try other items on the menu! The place can be expensive depending on what you order, but most of the stuff is reasonably priced and not as expensive as you would think! The service was good. Our waiter was super nice, bringing us more than enough extra ginger and offering to remake the spicy miso soup if it was too spicy. (it wasn't) There were a few times we were waiting for dishes to be cleared, or our water to be refilled, but otherwise we had a wonderful experience. There was a bit of a wait, and not a lot of parking. We were able to park across the street, and you can join the waitlist early if you plan ahead! I would recommend this spot if you are looking for an upscale sushi experience with plenty of cocktail options!

Cocktails and decor
Scott W.

Almost everything was fantastic! Amakara has a great vibe: high energy and lively. Service was excellent. We were very impressed by the garlic edamame and sushi rolls. The cocktails were excellent. Decor is attractive and non-traditional--in a good way--for a sushi restaurant. They do not take reservations, so there are far too many people lingering just inside the door and outside. We were on the Yelp waitlist. Estimate was 20-30 minutes and we were seated in 40 minutes. A few unusual elements could be easily fixed. On top of the sushi bar are Kirkland Stretch-Tite wrap boxes. Hm. These really take away from the completeness of watching the sushi chefs. Two, the servers wear exam gloves. I've never seen this anywhere. Some in our party like that they wore gloves. (Reminder to all that patrons are only safeguarded if one changes gloves with each table. In this model, only the server is safeguarded.) Regardless, all at our table recommend changing from bright blue gloves to black ones: more professional and more subtle. In sum, a fantastic place!

Grilled Edamame

Still a win and consistent food This time: Hawaiian delight: if you are a pizza pineapple lover, you will probably like this too! Beef wrapped asparagus: perfectly balanced savory to acidic flavors Tako salad: this was a miss for me, was wayyyyyyy too salty, I had to take my friend's rice to eat it with Grilled edamame: a must Maitake mushrooms are a delish side! Good crunch! Lemon salmon roll: fresh and citrus taste Tried a few drinks off their summer menu, Calipso something , good but was a little sweet for me. Friend got the espresso martini made with vodka and has a great ratio of foam.

Tried Amakara overall it was a really nice experience. The ambience is beautiful--clean, modern, and a great spot for a sit-down meal. The service was also super friendly and made us feel welcomed right away. We ordered a few sushi rolls and I'll say they were definitely unique, but the flavors just weren't really what we're used to. Nothing was "bad," it just wasn't our personal preference and we didn't end up loving the rolls we picked. I'd still come back though because the vibe and service were great--next time I'll just try something different!

Wakame Tofu Miso Soup
Ciara B.

I really enjoyed my lunch at Amakara - I got a miso soup and tempura asparagus roll that came with salad. The roll itself was really delicious, and I loved the sauce drizzled on top. The salad - while not the star of the dish - was also awesome! The dressing on it was fantastic. The miso soup was great, as all miso soups are. Service was great as well, our server gave the person celebrating their birthday at the table a vanilla and green tea/matcha ice cream for free. Would definitely recommend for a lunch, their drink menu also looked great!

I did learn they also have lunch specials on Saturdays too, so I will be back with my husband next time. I walked in and ordered, and the lady was so nice and welcoming. My order was packed and ready to go without much of a wait, which was nice. It didn't take long, so it's very helpful for people on a time crunch. I got the 3 item bento box with katsu chicken, California roll, and sashimi. It also came with miso soup, salad, and rice. I got it to go, so I was happy the soup was included because I notice some restaurants don't always include soup on togo orders. The katsu chicken was light and seasoned nicely, and the katsu sauce tasted a little different than normal, so maybe it's freshly made. I wasn't a fan of the California roll only because I am not a fan of the whole roll chunks of imitation crab meat but it wasn't a full deal breaker. The sashimi tasted fresh with a nice, soft, buttery texture. I still think about their sashimi at times, it's up there with some of the best pieces of fish I've eaten.

My wife ordered sukiyaki and I ordered a 3 item bento box. I had gyoza, mixed tempura and chicken katsu with a salad, white rice and miso soup. I liked all three items in my bento: the gyoza didn't have a crispy bottom but good flavor, chicken katsu was tender with a nice deep fried coating and the tempura was fried nicely (light and crispy). My wife liked the flavor of the sukiyaki and the ingredients. My son's wife had a sashimi donburi with fresh fish and my son went with a three item bento beef teriyaki, mixed tempura and three piece nigiri. With so many options in the area I decided to try this spot out that didn't have too many reviews…read morebut it had a good amount of positive reviews. I came in around 6pm and when I walked in there was 1 other table there and not busy. I would say it's a small spot that seats less than 50 people but it was nice and clean. I decided to get two rolls and a 6 piece nigiri that comes with a hand roll. Gorilla Roll - 9/10. I'm always a sucker for seared rolls. The salmon being seared gives it extra sweetness and the siracha mayo actually had a nice kick it to it and wasn't just sweet. The fried shallots on top added nice texture being crunchy with extra flavor. This was my favorite roll. Rosewood Roll - 8/10. You can taste that the fish is fresh. If you like salmon and tuna I would get this roll. What I liked about it as well was the spicy crab on top which carried a small amount of spice but adds to the flavor. Moriwase - 9/10. It comes with 6 nigiri and a hand roll. Again the fish is fresh and has good flavor. The portion was normal, definitely not small. The nigiri comes with a brush of soy sauce so no need to dip, but feel free to. I just wish it had some more wasabi cause I didn't taste any. It came with a spicy tuna hand roll which I liked a lot because it had a good kick. Service was great even though I was the only one in there after the table before me left but the lady was very nice and attentive. She even offered some home made dessert that was packaged in a cute box after having some small convo. I talked to the sushi chef and he's been making sushi for over 15 years and I could tell that he puts some passion in his craft. He told me everyone says the fish is fresh but he really tries to make the flavor known which I think he executed well. They also get their fish flown/delivered on Tuesdays/Thursday. If you're in the area I would recommend trying this spot. It's definitely a safe option and I'll be coming back to try the other items.
