It's been 14 years since the last review, and I'd only give 3 to 3.5 stars this time. I stopped for a sushi lunch right at opening during a weekday. The edamame was presented free up front, very nice. The soup was good, as usual. The salad was just ok. Roppongi makes a really good salad, why can't any other Japanese place? I got a rainbow roll with five pieces of nigiri. I asked for no shrimp, but the rainbow roll still had shrimp on the end. It's not an allergy, I just think sushi shrimp is chewy and gross. I know that sushi rice is vinegared, but I've never tasted such a vinegar flavor in sushi before. It seemed to be pooling at the bottom of the plate that it was served on. The service and food is always good here. Everyone is super friendly and we are always able to get a table. The sushi is good they have a good variety. They also have the option to do grill for big groups. If you have come here more than once they always remember you and what you like. Our go to place as it's consistent and the service is always very good. Parking is always available. My local gem in my village community the ambiance is casual and clean no frills but great for a group celebration. The service is wonderful it's like you are family when you walk in and are seated We choose the hibachi this time around and enjoyed every minute of it, the chef was entertaining and generous with the portions. Came here on a Thursday night, party of 2, kind of unintentionally (we were trying to get sushi and went to two other Sushi places in Dublin but everything was randomly closed for 4th of July week). My order: 12 pc sashimi combo ($26 ish) with a salmon handroll ($7 ish). I had been to a similarly named establishment in SLO that I think had the same menu before so I was like, okay maybe this will be good? This place is randomly also tapenyaki. Pros: - pretty huge chunks of sashimi in the sashimi combo, and they give you a good variety of 4-5 different kinds of fish (I got 4 pc salmon, and then 2 pieces each of 4 other different kinds of fish, which I didn't mind because I do like salmon alot). Tasted fresh, was pretty good. - The hot tea was pretty tasty - Reasonably priced - there was a $31 deal where you get an 8 pc nigiri set AND it comes with a roll of choice from a selection of maybe 8 different rolls - that seemed like such a steal that I wish I was hungrier so I could order it haha - lots of available parking in the nearby area - it kind of almost looks like a residential area but there are spaces if you keep driving around the restaurant - I'm grateful it was open on a holiday week lol - they gave us free edamame at the beginning and free ice cream at the end of the meal - Very enthusiastic waitress singing the birthday song for guests and they turn off the lights and sing with a tambourine lol - Really pretty plating and presentation Cons: - the deal I mentioned above sounds great - but what was interesting was that the special menu also had an 8 pc omakase nigiri set for the same price? I tried asking the waitress if it's different but they couldn't answer partly due to a language barrier (which isn't her fault, but I thought that kind of pricing was interesting). - The service was really really slow (we sat down around 7:25 but didn't get our food until around 8:05pm) - I don't want to blame the wait staff because they were all running around and trying their best - it felt like there just weren't enough people working. When I walked in there was nobody at the host booth area, and it took a long time to get menus, tea, water, etc. - the restaurant has an interesting layout with walls where it can make it hard to flag down a server to help you TLDR: solid fish, I wouldn't mind coming back because it seems like a well-loved local place, but the service was so slow the day we went, I sincerely hope that was just an off day. read more

Our first time here and it was a belated birthday celebration for a group of 8. This restaurant is located in a shopping strip mall and the entrance isn't apparent. We parked in front of the restaurant but had to go around to the back to get into the restaurant. We sat in a nice comfortable spot as our 2 year grandson can be restless and he was enchanted with the ducks hung up on the wall. He loves animals so the ducks kept him somewhat entertained. Everyone ordered their own dish but we had tempura appetizer to start. I ordered the 3 item dinner combo with salmon teriyaki, shortribs and beef teriyaki and the portions were generous and tasty. We were celebrating a belated birthday for my daughter and I and the server brought out an ice cream dessert with a candle for us to share. Tried this place via Door Dash delivery. I think if I give them a try again, I'll order sushi, because the baked items I ordered were not it. The baked green mussels were not creamy at all. The only reason why it is getting 2 stars is because the staff is nice. However the food is just really not good. The fish was just not fresh and fishy. It might be an off day or because u came at a really bad time but it's unacceptable to serve this to us. The don has so much vegetables is just so off putting from being an authentic bowl of katsu don. My expectations were never to get the most authentic experience or even remotely close but even with my expectations low it still manages to disappoint me. Hopefully the staff can quality check their food more before they serve it. read more

It's the favorite for buddy's daughter so had a few visits for its tapenyaki and it was good grill for the price and close to home. The chicken for the grill sucks though, quality is breast meat from Costco probably, flavorless like a big nugget. I usually go for the beef. read more

However returning after a year my past rating would have been 4.5 now lessened to 3.4 based on the change in taste for the sweetish miso soup and sauce on the grilled squid and sunrise roll. My wife from Japan commented that 'No Japanese sushi chef would ever make it this way'. The food has become more Americanized in our opinion if that is what you are after. HIDDEN GEM! This place hands down has the best hibachi!! These employees hands down are the best. They went out of their way to accommodate my picky kids so me and my husband could enjoy a date night! We don't have any babysitters so it's rare we get to enjoy the night out with our kids crying or climbing out of a high chair. We had reservations for Hana Japan but they said they were too busy to accommodate us. It was a blessing in disguise. Food was amazing, atmosphere was amazing & the accommodations were great. My family had the best time and laughed the entire night! We decided this is our new family spot that we will go to once a month! If I could give 100 stars I would! I've only been here for hot foods and sushi because it's so close to my house. But it's amazing! All of the sushi rolls that I've tried so far are unique, fresh, and good size. I'd recommend asking for spicy Mayo and eel sauce to dip along with it. Definitely their price is affordable and this seems like a family business which makes me want to support this place even more. We also ordered the dinner combo (3) where you can choose any 3 items from their menu of the dinner. We got the Katsu, beef teriyaki, and ribs. - always served with salad and miso soup as well. Katsu were crispy (okay amount of chicken, more breading but so delicious) ribs were great (hint of sweetness!) beef was cooked well (eel sauce is lil sweet) but overall try it out! This was our 1st time dining and the service was friendly and quick although they were short-staffed. They have a nice selection of sake and beer and we ordered both and Shirley Temples for the kids. The servers were sooo nice here! I normally just review the food on Yelp, but they were just so nice and friendly that I had to mention it. They even gave my wife free green tea ice cream! All the stuff I ordered were great, but what really stood out to me was how fancy their oyster shooter was! I've ordered this at every Japanese restaurant that offers it, and this was by far the fanciest and biggest oyster shot I've seen. The O-Toro was super tasty, and my 49ers roll where I requested shrimp tempura to be added was good too. The only thing I thought could be better was if they had both the regular and the low sodium spy sauce bottles in the table. I think I only had the low sodium one and I like my sodium haha. Update: SAVE this place! The staff here try their hardest and they deserve more business. I can't say that the food is always at 100%, but I'm 100% sure that's dependent on how many customers they get. More customers, better food! I think most can agree that any bad rating here is only reflective of an ancient past. They've been in business for so long and they've improved so much. My family and I have visited this sushi place in the past and we wanted to try it again especially because of the high ratings and time it was open during the week for dinner. We did not have the best experience sadly. The miso soup was cold on arrival, our waiter was a little snappy/short, and on top of that, the staff did seem like they were sick. They were wearing masks, however our waiter would blow her nose and not wash her hands; on top of coughing a lot. I was craving sushi and udon one afternoon on my way back from school and decided to stop by here for a quick bite, since I had been here before and it was not that bad from what I remembered. The service was not the best, the employees/waitresses were not friendly or welcoming and one of them seem to have an attitude/smart mouth. I ordered the Nabeyaki udon, salmon nigiri, and salmon roll. The udon soup was a bit plain, but salty and it did not taste like anything special, it tasted like something I could had made at home. Long overdue review! I go to yanagi at least once a month and everytime the service and food are always up to my expectations. It's a old stable sushi place that honestly maintained it's value and quality in regards to fish and quantity. I love the cute ducks on the wall and the atmosphere is super comforting and chillax. Family-friendly The food always comes out nice and quick consistently, flavor is always so so delicious, their toro and uni are always perfection In terms of rolls, the valentine, crazy girl and happy bunny are my top favorites - highly recommend trying. My friends love the skillet entrees especially the beef teriyaki, it comes out sizzling and smells so so good. The servers always great us with a positive attitude and as a customer who often asks a lot of questions, they patiently respond to my questions with great details which is super helpful. Delicious! Came here with my friends after another Japanese restaurant just down the street had a 30 min wait. The restaurant was empty when we came in but quickly filled up! They have a grill where you can order food teppanyaki style and the chefs cook it for you or you have the traditional sit down option for sushi and more! The menu was huge with tons of rolls, dinner rice and meat plates, and sashimi sets. We got four rolls, a udon, and a donkatsu plate. All the rolls were delicious and I was shocked at how tasty they were! The rolls were HUGE for about $14-16. Service was tough to get when we were waiting for our check because a huge crowd came in but it wasn't a huge deal! Be patient because there wasn't too many servers. On a Thursday night at 8:15, I was the last person in the restaurant, and I may have read it wrong, but the not-so-subtle, loud implications were that it was time for me to leave. The food was amazing, the fish was so fresh and perfect, and I was savoring it. They started vacuuming and sweeping and staring at me with their heads turned absolutely sideways, bringing me my check before I was done and, as it was delivered, "You don't want anything more, right?"
