This place is quite literally hidden LOL. It actually took me a second to find it because of its location, however once I found it, the interior was so nice and modern. When you enter, someone will seat you and then you order everything through a QR code that's on the table. Once you're ready to check out at the end, you can pay through your phone. It's super easy and convenient to be honest. I was really craving Japanese curry and my favorite place is Coco Ichibanya in southern california and although this place is not as good as my favorite place, it was still pretty good and hit the spot for my craving. I got the chicken karaage curry and added vegetables and an egg to it. I was sad they didn't have a Japanese omelette style egg but this fried egg still hit the spot. I believe I got spicy level 2, but it was not spicy at all for me. I do love spice though so I may not be a reliable source for spice levels... This small curry house has been our favorite thus far, but on this particular Father's Day, there were a few mishaps. 1st the Beef Croquette came w/no beef, the dishes were dirty & water service was pretty much self serve. Orders: House Salad Bowl had a beautiful array of red cabbage, lettuce, spinach, shaved carrot slices, edamame w/shell all tossed in a Demiya Yasai dressing. The salad was fresh & colorfully vibrant. The only preference I would have is that the edamame shell be removed so it is easier to eat. Other than the edamame, I would order this again. The Katsu Curry Chicken was generously portioned & the chicken not overly cooked so that it is dry. What always stands out for us is the curry sauce. It has the desirable heat, the taste & consistency that we look forward to. The Katsu Curry Pork was a noticeable size smaller than the chicken but all the components of the sauces remained the same as for the chicken curry. Since this is a small restaurant, the standing room is very limited & a small bench that is in the narrow pathway of the staff's entering & exiting the kitchen makes it a little cramped. I ordered the tonkatsu curry rice ($18.50) and came away disappointed. I've had this dish at various restaurants, and the curry sauce is usually fairly similar. For me, the quality of the dish ultimately comes down to the tonkatsu, and on that, I'd give it about 3 stars. The breading was the biggest letdown. To me, a good tonkatsu should have a light, airy, flaky panko crust. When the dish arrived, I noticed it didn't have the "spiky" crust I expected. Instead, the breading looked flat, dense, and thick. The breading was thick enough that the coating on both sides together was almost as substantial as the pork itself (see photo). Instead of just adding a light crunch, I found myself noticing and tasting the breading throughout each bite. The crust also noticeably separated from the pork rather than adhering closely to the meat. Overall, it was an OK meal because Japanese curry sauce is almost always tasty. Demiya doesn't claim to be a dedicated tonkatsu specialist, but when katsu is clearly the signature item on the menu, I expected better. At this price point, I've had much better tonkatsu at similar restaurants. I don't think making a good tonkatsu requires fancy ingredients or an expensive restaurant--just a bit more care and attention to detail. read more

Demiya has been in bookmarks for a while now and I'm so glad that I was able to try it. As others have mentioned, it's pretty tucked away in a plaza and unbeknownst to some (myself included) there's actually parking closer to their entrance - so slightly away from Ace Hardware and Los Pericos. The menu is pretty extensive and since you have to scan a QR code to view once seated - if you're dining in, it can definitely feel like you're scrolling away. I ended up getting the hamburg steak that had cheese! And I got a level 2 spicy, which I felt like had a good kick to it and that built up over time. Also important to note if spice is on your mind, is it's my understanding their level system only goes from 1 to 3. I really enjoyed my hamburg steak and the cheese was oozing out of it when I first cut into it! Yum yum all around. The side salad was also super tasty and I don't know what that dressing was but I am down to try it again. The waiter kept our water glasses full. The restruant is fairly small. There are about 20 tables inside and 4 outside. Everything seems clean. My only complaint would be the music is loud. Overall, the food and service here were definitely on point, though strangely, they didn't have on hand a good number of the items on their menu. They used the breast as the part of the chicken they use for their chicken katsu.It was a very lean and meaty piece of chicken. However, biting into it gave you the imagination of biting into a juicy piece of jollibee fried chicken. The curry was a very good combination of Japanese and Indian spices as it balanced the heat and sweetness, while giving space for the chicken to sing its natural flavor. Overall, I give the spicy curry chicken katsu a 8/10. Isa also got the chicken katsu curry but with mild spice. She also added cheese on top of the curry. The cheese didn't really add a lot of flavor to the curry to be honest, it just added a textural difference to the curry. If the cheese was a mozzarella blend, then maybe it would complement the curry more. 7/10 We shared the Menchi katsu. This was our favorite thing on the menu. And Ivan's first time having it. A menchi katsu is a ground beef patty fried in panko bread crumbs. It was accompanied with a sweet and savory beef sauce, not sure what it was called, its notes similar to that of a ponzu and teriyaki sauce. We both split the burger in half and ate both. Ahh what to say about this, it was a juicy, deep meat flavor of deliciousness that was only excelled by that sweet and savory sauce. Easy 8.5/10. read more

I always love a good Japanese curry. My favorite place used to be Murracis in SF, but since I no longer live there, I had to find somewhere closer. Demiya comes in close. There are way more options than at Muraccis, so that is nice. You can get your curry on top of rice or udon and there are many more choices for add-ins. I usually get the katsu curry and super spicy with added pickles. We've also had the udon which comes with perfectly chewy and bouncy noodles. I've been here multiple occasions, all on weekends for dinner, and sometimes it's packed while others I get seated right away, so not sure the pattern there. Service is always super nice. I had visited Demiya with the intentions of having the curry chicken katsu udon. Some where along the way I forgot or lost my way to submit my order. I didn't realize that I can simply browse and placed my order via the QR code. After waiting a while, seeing the code on the table, it dawn on me to place my order. The wait person had provide a hard copy menu initially when I sat down because I forgot their process since my last visit. While browsing the online menu, I thought I had clicked on the chicken katsu curry udon until after nearly finishing my curry chicken katsu rice that my order may have been in error. Checking my online order, it was my quick finger that click on the wrong dish. Nonetheless I had enjoyed the curry rice chicken katsu. The chicken was cut in large pieces too large for a bite so I used my spoon and fork to cut into smaller pieces. The rice soaked up the reservoir of curry sauce in my bowl that for the last few bites gone without extra sauce. Obviously I had enjoyed this dish that I forgot the curry udon.
