After a day shopping at the Stoneridge Mall and Livermore Outlets with my Mom, I had a hankering for a good hot meal and bowl of ramen. This location is down the street in Dublin and we were about an hour out from close. It was a slow weekday and they were able to serve us quick and easy! A $15 bowl of ramen, with great portion and great flavor (compared to other bigger cities who overcharge and give significantly less)? How can I not be happy? Albeit I am a vegetarian and I got the veggie ramen with tofu, mushrooms, corn, bean sprouts and a boiled egg on the side. I also opted for the creamy version of their veggie broth and loved it. Ramen noodles were great and cooked well too. I feel like I can go to ramen spots who disappoint me easily when it ventures too far out of the norm, and this was an easy meal that was quick, reliable, and hit the spot. I haven't tried their other options though I do know they offer other Hawaiian bbq staples (I saw a number of people ordering those to-go). I don't know if the cook was having a bad day or if they were understaffed, but we went to Ramen 101 last Mothers Day for lunch. We had a good experience the previous times we went and so were very excited. To be fair, all the other dishes were good. Bbq chicken, seafood ramen, tempura, grilled squid and popcorn chicken (with very good portion size). However they totally messed up the Black Garlic Chicken Ramen. We orderes 2 bowls - but was so surprised it was watery and had no flavor. Upon asking about it, they forgot to add the "tare" or sauce and had to give us separately the black garlic oil, chicken powder and flavor sauce. We let it pass even if our experience was definitely down already. We had a take out order of the same ramen and specifically told the cashier to please do not forget the sauce. Ramen 101 has become a favorite spot for me to visit with my daughter. If she had the choice, she'd probably be here every day. It's a solid place to get a very good bowl of ramen. I usually get the chicken ramen because it comes with a lot of chicken in it. I like the pork too, but you only get two slices. With the chicken, there's a lot of it. One thing I noticed, and I'm not sure why it is this way, but all the Ramen 101 locations I've been to in the valley all cut their eggs in half. Both locations that I've eaten at in the Bay Area keep their eggs whole. Not really a big deal, but I wonder why the difference. Another thing that I can never be sure of is which menu I'm going to get if I've never been to that particular location. I've been to locations with a kids menu and a Hawaiian BBQ section while other locations don't have the kids menu and they bento boxes in place of the Hawaiian BBQ. I only mention it because I introduced the place to my mom and she really liked the bento boxes. So she told my dad about it and then we went into this Dublin location and discovered that they have Hawaiian BBQ instead of bento. It was a little disappointing for her, but she still got something she liked. I just don't understand why there's so much inconsistency. My coworker introduced me to this location. So it's a first for me here. Employees were friendly and polite. Service was great especially when you're on a crunch one hour lunch break. Our food came out fast! I love anything spicy so I opted for the spicy seafood ramen, while my coworker ordered her usual spicy blacken garlic ramen and their musubi. Ramen at Ramen 101 has the looks but not the taste. That just about sums up the experience. I suppose I was spoiled by Ajisen Ramen in Fremont. The noodles here are a bit harder rather than chewy. The soup base is bland and even the pork is bland. The chili sauce taste like the spices from northern China. We came back from a trip and everyone got sick. So my husband and son all wanted something soupy and warm. We decided on this place for our Sunday dinner. I called in to order and was told would be ready in 10 minutes. We ordered garlic soup noodle, Tonkatsu and spice noodle. When I got there, the food was ready and packed. Wahhh! It pains me to say I'll need to find a new ramen spot. The last time I visited, 2 ramen bowls were missing the eggs and bamboo shoots. There are only 5 toppings in the ramen, so missing 2 seems like a lot. When I asked them about this, they said they ran out of bamboo shoots. Mmm okay, but they should've let customers know when ordering or let them substitute with another topping, like corn. (Each topping costs $1-2 when added, so missing a few toppings... dude!). When I asked, "You ran out of eggs too?" It was then that they admitted that they forgot and brought out eggs for us to add in the bowls, but they were cold so my kids didn't enjoy eating them, which stinks because the eggs and noodles are usually their favorite parts of the dish. Other things to note: - The pieces of pork in the ramen had a funny aftertaste. It may be because it wasn't hot. I dunno. But we couldn't eat it. - My favorite unagi bowl went up in price, which is okay because it's unagi (yum!), but they also keep downsizing their portions, meaning the price actually increased even more if you consider the smaller portion. I don't eat a lot, and even I thought it wasn't enough to eat as a meal like it was before. Even my kids felt bad for me that they were giving me some of their food, which says a lot because their bowls were missing items! The flavor of the shoyu soup was tasty and the unagi was cooked well, so I'm giving it 2 stars, but these qualities unfortunately do not make up for the negatives. Womp womp!
