2 shrimp tempura, large Nikutama Udon, side of veggies
    Kari C.

We finally got to try out this place! The food is pretty good, not the absolute best, but all of the food is served hot and fresh. You can see it being made and cooked there! There was a long line, but it moved quickly. Ordering is not that straightforward. We got some base udon, then added some toppings and sides. Here's what we got: Large Nikutama udon $15.99 - DH liked this. The broth is sweet and salty, sorta like teriyaki/sukiyaki flavor profile. Soft cooked egg was good. Large Creamy Tantan udon $12.45 - this seasonal item is a little spicy but if you can handle chili crisp, it is totally fine. It is definitely not as spicy as malatong. The broth is very thick and creamy. It only comes with half of a soft cooked egg. This one's good, loved the flavor combos, but you'll need to add more meat to make it filling. Wish I got a fried chicken side. Extra veggies $2.99 - DH and I split this one. It is a small container of basic boiled veggies things like cabbage. It is good filler but seemed very expensive for what it is. 2 Shrimp tempura $2.29 each - kids really like this one and even asked for more. But we were not gonna wait in line again! Extra noodles $2.99 - small container of extra noodles. Good for kids. I wish I took a photo of the sides and tempura. If you just get the large udon, it's not quite enough food for a filling lunch. I dinged them a star because it can get quite expensive if you add some tempura and sides. It is not quite as inexpensive as they advertise. We are light eaters and we could have definitely ordered more. Another soft boiled egg was three dollars and each slice of basic tempura was charged by the piece so it could be two dollars for one piece of tempura veggie! You can see how this could add up! It would be nice to get some combo package add-on for a little bit less per piece like one that includes two or three pieces of veggies and one piece of meat for a lower price. The restaurant itself had indoor and outdoor seating. It's kind of like a food hall atmosphere. You have to get your food before looking for a table. No saving tables, we saw staff regulating that. There is an area that is self serve for utensils, napkins, and to go bowls. Overall, a solid place to eat, but definitely get extra sides and more protein to make it filling.

Tried Marugame Udon and went with the Nikutama, which was a solid choice. The udon noodles were thick, chewy, and clearly freshly made. Great texture and bite. The sweet beef was tender and flavorful, and the hot spring egg added a nice richness when mixed into the broth. The kake-style soup was light but savory, letting the noodles shine without being too heavy. Ordering was straightforward, and it's nice being able to see the food options clearly before deciding. Portions were filling for the price, especially compared to other udon spots. The place can get busy during peak times, but the line moves at a decent pace. Overall, a reliable spot for comforting udon with good quality ingredients. I'd definitely come back to try their curry options or add some tempura next time.

Really enjoyed this udon spot! The self-service setup made everything quick and easy, and the restaurant was super clean and organized. The prices were very fair for the quality and portion sizes. The food itself was delicious -- the broth and noodles were really flavorful and tasted fresh. One of the coolest parts was getting to watch them make the noodles right in front of you. The staff was also very polite and helpful throughout the whole experience. Definitely a place I'd come back to!

Nikutama udon - good noodles, egg and broth but a miss on the beef and toppings (Feb 2026)

This is our second time here for dinner p and having eaten at the ones in Waikiki Hawaii, Los Angeles, and other places, I was hopeful that it would meet the mark. On the positive side: - Some interesting seasonal menu options - Efficient ordering process - Same high quality udon noodles - Good soft boiled egg - Bright, generally clean eating area - Easy self-serve station for sauces and drinks and utensils (although it was pretty messy) On the negative side: - The beef was chewy and only lukewarm - The tempura bits were too big, cold and greasy - The sliced green onions look like they had been sitting out uncovered - The fried items under the heat lamps were not cooked or kept warm properly--the shrimp and croquettes were over fried and the zucchini was limp and soggy So overall, this Marugame Udon missed the mark. With some additional attention though, I believe it can reach the standard I've been fortunate to experience elsewhere

We love Marugame!! Guaranteed fast service and great food. I always get the Nikutama and it never disappoints. The broth is great, noodles are great, and I love adding the tempura flakes. The tempura is great too but I always get so full here. It's a great price for how filling it is too! I recommend this to everyone who visits.

Fresh udon served quickly & self-serve tempura makes for a satisfying and comforting lunch! There was a cafeteria-style line where you order and pick up your udon and serve yourself fresh tempura before sitting down, but it moved quickly just after 12pm on a Tuesday. I opted for the Beef Tomatama (4/5) on the seasonal menu in December, which had a rich tomato curry that paired well with the fresh udon. I also tried the shrimp tempura (4/5) which was good but would have been better if it was freshly fried. There's plenty of seating, though the tables were a little dirty. There is also outdoor seating.

Been a regular for years across various locations like oahu and south bay. Overtime, Marugame has skimped on the soup and meat, which is a bummer. They never pour enough broth to cover the noodles (see niku udon pic). I do appreciate that they have staff helping people find a seat now. Lines may look intimidating but it moves fast. Good for a quick bite but not sure if the portions are worth the price so Ive been coming less

Marugame Udon always hits the spot when I'm craving some noodles and soup! This location is located in a prime spot as well. Plenty of parking and shopping options to do after or even before. There's also lots of seating options inside and outside. If you choose to sit outside, they also have heat lamps so you stay warm during the winter Service is fast as it goes in a line and the additional tempura choices are always delicious! I feel like every time I go, there's always a new item on the menu! This time I tried the cheese katsu curry udon and it was pretty good. A little heavy with the curry, but the flavors all melded together well!

Love The City Center in San Ramon and all its foodie options. Tried Marugame Udon! Yum! Great fast casual place. You order at the counter and they are happy to help newbies. They have pre-set bowls or you can be adventurous by picking your base (noodle, broth or curry, hot or cold) and then adding topping like veggies, crisp tempura, scallions. I got the number 9. This is their concentrated dashi broth topped with 2 shrimp tempura and scallions. I added veggies. Amazing! My friend Jennifer Barnett-Champion got the spicy vegan bowl! I also felt it was very affordable- my bowl with sides, drink, tax, and tip was $18. New fav place!

Today was proof. It doesn't matter which marugame udon you go to; Valley Fair or San Ramon the food is good. This location seemed bigger than the VF location. There was plenty of space and tables. The staff was friendly and service quick. Missing fifth star is because the tables needed busing and the condiment area had seen better times.

Delicious! The udon is really good and for a decent price. It looks like they expanded the menu, so there are a lot of options to choose from. It can get crowded, but the line moves pretty fast. The only downside is it can be difficult to find seating when it's crowded.

    Nikutama udon, tempura shrimp, gyoza
    Chrissi A.

I'm so glad I returned for a dinner last night with my fiancé and pup. I got the nikutama, which is a delightfully sweet beef with a rich, deep, savory broth (and of course, tempura flakes, scallion and an egg!) On the side, I got the gyoza, tempura cheese and a fried shrimp. Everything was hot, fresh and exactly the way I wanted it. The service was fast, and the cashier was super friendly. On a Wednesday night, it wasn't terribly busy so I was able to find a seat outside pretty easily. Speaking of outside, they have outdoor heaters which made things much more comfortable. Overall, I'm very happy with my recent trip.

This was recommended by a friend and I am glad we came here. This place is inside a mall on the ground floor. We didn't have any reservations and I don't even know if they take them. It was very busy but we were able to get a table of six of us. You get in line and order your food and pick your add ons in line. Then pay and they give you a number stand to get your food delivered. All the udon is made right in front of you. It is all scratch made in large pots and it is amazing to just watch them make it. I got the most popular, Nikutama which is the beef. Wow the Udon was amazing. The beef cooked perfectly. I loved it. My wife got the creamy broth with pork and it was good but she liked mine better. We got some tempura to eat with the soup but it is made ahead of time and wasn't very crispy. Disappointing. We really enjoyed this place and will come again in in the area.

Is all your broth made with pork?

They have a vegan tan tan that is purely vegetarian broth

    Are there any birthday specials?

Not that are listed on the menu.

Do they have Ume musubi or salmon musubi at this location similar to their Hawaiian location?

No musubi like the Hawaii menu sadly.

Can anyone PLEASE tell me who the artist is for their awesome wallpaper art? I seriously want my wall to look like the art.

Are any of the tempura sides such as the potato croquette vegan? thanks for the helpful response Michael, I'll probably will go to that salad place, probably won't run into idiots like you there :)

Yes, they have a vegan udon, but I don't think any of the tempura sides are vegan, I think the batter that is used is made with egg.

Do they have vegan broth options?

    Yes!

Just stepping in lifts your spirit and creates joy. The thoughtful decor and beautiful design immediately stand out, creating a special atmosphere, even if you are simply meeting friends for lunch on a weekday. I never expected to find such a stunning restaurant tucked into a shopping strip in the heart of San Ramon. One Hour Bistro is truly a delightfull find. The same attention to detail reflected in the decor is also evident in the quality of the ingredients and the incredible flavors of each dish. Crystal glasses in a Thai restaurant? YES! They also offer mocktails which I wish I had time to try and savor. I ordered the Kao Soi Braised Short Ribs, and it was absolutely stunning; beautifully presented, generously portioned, and deeply comforting. The rich broth, tender bone-in ribs, and flavorful noodles made every bite memorable. I couldn't even finish the entire dish because I wanted to savore it slowly. The Pad See Ew was a silky, heavenly treat. The rice noodles were succulent, the vegetables were fresh, and everything was coated in a rich, flavorful sauce. If your driving through San Ramon, this is a MUST try. If you live in the area, lucky you!

**Review 11.22.2025**…read more My family and I came to Bishop Ranch for the Christmas Tree lighting. We were a bit late to know so my brother made reservations for dinner here. I've been to their location in La Jolla and am thankful to know that their quality is still the same as in SD. Service: a bit of a cluster. We guessed they were understaffed... the employees were both working the movie theater, the restaurant, and the bar. I think our server was one of two for the night. Our server - whom we didn't get his name - was friendly and very efficient. We were there at 4:45 pm so whoever was serving during that time and day - mad props to him. He was friendly even if he was definitely under duress. We ordered a bunch and everyone liked their food. I ordered the Korean BBQ Hanger Steak and it was delicious. It was cooked medium, just like I requested, tender and well seasoned. I wished it came with rice (yes, the Filipina in me - and the bro said to ask a side of it next time.) My family also was able to avail Happy Hour drinks so that was cool. I had the Aperol Spritz - it's not the way they make it like in Europe but it would suffice. Though fair warning, it was pretty strong! We were going to order dessert but we were running low on time b/c of the tree lightening. Overall, they're still working out the kinks of transitioning from the Lot to Zentril. They might want to add more staff - this location is very open and wide - it seems cruel to just put two servers on a busy Friday night with something going on inside the center. Will definitely visit again and hopefully their staffing issue will be sorted out by then - fingers crossed!

Everything was very limited and then they made the order wrong at that. Then they switched waiters and they double charged my friend and I for the bills. Horrible experience and I never will go back and this is not the first time there has been bad service with wrong orders before. I believe in giving chances because every restaurant can have a bad day, but this seems to be continuous and now they even have a very limited menu. Not worth my time, my money or anything there. Nothing is great. I also called and left a message for management and no one ever returned my call. Disappointing.

We arrived for an early dinner around 5 PM, full of nostalgia and high expectations...and left with very mixed feelings. We started with drinks and three appetizers to share. The pineapple spritzer was a great way to kick things off...refreshing, well-balanced, and not sweet which I appreciate. Our apps: - Crispy Shrimp and Pork Imperial Eggrolls: we re-ordered this. Tasty enough, but the portion size for the price was genuinely disappointing. You're getting a few small bites and not much else. - Shrimp and Chive Pan Fried Dumplings: The biggest letdown of the night. The dough on the bottom was thick and gummy, and the filling was completely bland.....no seasoning, no excitement. Pass. - Hoisin Barbecue Pork Ribs: The best of the three in terms of portion, but brace yourself -- these are an absolute mess to eat. I would not order these again. With mixed feelings about the food, we jumped straight to dessert, which is where the meal was redeemed. The burnt Basque cheesecake came topped with diced caramel apples and crispy strudel- one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. Overall, this visit left us a little deflated. The appetizers underdelivered for the price, and it stings a bit on a sentimental occasion. That said, I'm still curious about their entrées. However, the host experience was frustrating. The Yelp waitlist wasn't working on a busy Friday night, which seemed to cause some disorganization. We were quoted a 25-minute wait for a party of three, but ended up waiting 45 minutes. During that time, multiple parties of three who arrived after us were seated first. When I checked in at 35 minutes, I was told we were "next," but that didn't seem to reflect what was happening. At 45 minutes, after checking again and explaining how long we'd been waiting, we were seated immediately. It was confusing and especially difficult with a hungry toddler. Parking: Parking can be tricky. The restaurant is located under an apartment complex with limited guest spots on the first floor of the garage. If it's full, you'll have to exit and find street parking (which is minimal) or park across Dublin Blvd and walk. Overall: This was close to a perfect experience. The food and server were great, but the disorganized wait and host interaction took away from it. Hopefully they improve their system for busy nights, especially if the Yelp waitlist goes down again.

What truly stood out, though, was the exceptional service. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcomed from the moment we walked in. A special shoutout to our server, Andrew, who was simply fantastic. He went above and beyond to ensure our dietary restrictions were carefully understood and accommodated, which we really appreciated. His attentiveness and positive attitude made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Great food but hot & sour soup needs to worked upon, great atmosphere, and outstanding service--highly recommend!

The flavors are unique, and the spice levels are always spot on. On our most recent visit, we tried: Baby Corn Manchuria: Perfectly crispy and flavorful. Chili Garlic Noodles: A classic done right. Sri Lankan Jackfruit Pakora: A new menu item that was absolutely stellar! All three dishes were so good they were practically competing for the top spot. What really sets this location apart is the service. A special shout-out to Abida, Vamsi, and Arhaan--they were incredibly caring and checked in frequently to ensure we enjoyed every bite. If you're new, don't hesitate to ask them for recommendations! They are great at tailoring dishes to your spice preferences or allergy needs. Highly recommended!

The wines by the glass are awesome, if you like Chard, like my wife, they have Frank, Rom and Far Niente, all for $18. That is a steal for all 3, especially Far Niente. Most place charge $20 to $25 in Danville and rarely see Far Niente by the glass. The prices look reasonable on all the wines by the glass, so go get some! They also have great cocktails ($16, great price), my 2 favorites so far are Watermelon Seduction (4 Stars) and Pomtini (4 Stars, get on the rocks). Their bartenders mix the perfect balance, never too sweet or tart, just right! Food notes: Tang's Fried Rice (3 Stars, $30 with chicken, beef, shrimp, so 2 Stars) The base price for fried rice was $19, ok pricy but if you ask for combination fried rice (chicken, beef and shrimp), the price is $30, $11 increase. They charge for each protein, ridiculous! The rice was not that great, they didn't use a long grain rice, some sort of short grain, but not fat, still thin, like the rice was broken in half. All the ingredients were fresh, but nothing special. And the egg, no large chucks, just tiny bits mix in. Szechuan Green Beans with chicken (4 Stars, $20 with chicken). The green beans were fresh, not overcooked, still slightly crunchy. The sauce had some heat and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Roasted peanuts were added, nice touch! Rolling Lettuce Cups with Chicken (4.5 Stars $17) The lettuce cups were perfectly cut from the head lettuce, no ruff edges, easily separated and large. One of the best execution of lettuce cups I've seen! The chicken filling was also awesome! It was not serviced with plum sauce, kinda missed it, but instead some thin sauce, good, not sure exactly what, but definitely not plum. Pork Belly Bao (5 Stars) Really good, get some! Mongolian Beef (3 Stars) The beef was thin sliced and good quality, but the sauce was to sweet, heavy on hoisin, plenty of sliced onion and green onion. No heat. Kung Pao Chicken (3 Stars) I liked the shiitake mushrooms, but the rest was just okay. Shu Mai (4.5 Stars) Really good filling to the top, good size dumping (almost have to cut in half to eat) serviced with chili sauce. I mixed some table soy and chili sauce together, perfect dipping sauce. Yo's Rock Shrimp with Sriracha Mayo (3.5 Stars) Good quality shrimp, nice and lightly batter, deep fried but not over cooked. Until next time...
