Tucked in a small quiet plaza in San Ramon but plenty of parking. The restaurant started off small but now they make sushi wraps, sushi rolls, teriyaki plates, and udon too. They recently expanded into the space next to them so that there is adequate seating for quick take out and dine in options. They also have special deals for in person during the week including $2 CA rolls with a $20 purchase. Our visits are often positive-patient and welcoming staff who is willing to explain everything. You can order at the kiosk or with someone. The unagi in the sushi rolls can be full of bones and is chewy, not my favorite texture, but I like the other rolls I've ordered. Food is decently priced and ingredients taste fresh. Ambiance is clean, generally calm space with indoor and outdoor seatings, good for conversations. Good place to have a casual lunch/dinner!
Ordered take out from Origami recently. It was our first time checking this place out on the recommendation of some friends who live up in the area. We ordered the following: 2 x crunchy roll - consisted of a shrimp tempura base or middle with kani, topped with tempura flakes and drizzled with unagi sauce. It was quite tasty and made fresh. We also tried their avocado roll and spicy tuna rolls. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy at all and makes me wonder if they made a Tekka Maki instead. For their wraps we tried both their crow canyon wrap - this was similar to the crunch roll with shrimp tempura, kani, avocado, and spicy mayo. And the vegetable tempura wrap came with assorted vegetable tempura, cucumber, and avocado. There is an option to opt for less rice on these wraps which was great. Origami is located off San Ramon Valley Blvd near the Crow Canyon exit off 680. There's plenty of parking at the strip mall they were a part of. Friendly and welcoming employees and clean restaurant. However, while the food was quite good, the prices were a notch higher than expected for the overall value.
My husband stopped by and ordered us a few rolls while my son was at a birthday party at The Golden Skate nearby. I've had sushi wraps at a few different places, and I enjoyed the Diablo wrap here the best. My son got the NorCal roll since the ingredients are safe for him to eat with his garlic and onion allergy. That's actually the reason we chose to eat here, sushi is one of the easiest foods for him to eat out, and having it handheld made it even better!
Needed a quick bite to eat and didn't want anything drive thru. Just pumped gas at Costco and came right over. They expanded and have a full service side of the restaurant coming soon. We sat in the new section that is newly decorated with modern details. We decided to dine IN and everything came out piping hot on ceramic plates. Calamari was nicely fried and perfectly seasonedwith a nice chew. Shared a teriyaki chicken plate and added yakisoba noodles. It's a hearty portion to share since one of us wasn't too hungry. Great service. Great food. Can't wait come back and try out their new side when they're in full operation with a full menu.
Got takeout tonight and happy to see that my rainbow wrap's quantity and quality is back! It's big and filled with lots of fish! Also got lion king roll and salmon bake which are tasty as well!!

This isn't a full on sushi restaurant, more like a quick serve spot that happens to do sushi and teriyaki. I ordered the sashimi, which came with six thick cuts of fish for about twenty some dollars. Honestly, it was a fair price for what I got. The fish was fresh, creamy, and had that clean ocean flavor that tells you it's handled right. My only critique would be that they could've tossed in a little more ginger, but that's minor. I also got the garlic edamame, which was on point. Perfectly steamed, flavorful, and not one was tough or soggy. The seasoning had a nice garlicky kick that stuck to the pods just right. The spot itself was completely empty when I went in, which was kind of surprising because the food's actually good. I parked right at the front door, placed my order to go, and sat in my car since the guy behind the counter saw me there. I waited for a while, thinking he might wave when it was ready, but after about fifteen minutes, I went back in and, of course, the food was already sitting there waiting. Not a big deal, but it would've been nice if he gave a signal since I was right there. Still, I'd come back. They open at 11 a.m., which is earlier than most sushi spots, so you can actually get something fresh before the lunch rush.
Tasty food, clean simple restaurant. Took awhile for them to clean one of several open tables for us. The katsu curry chicken was very good. The sushi was pretty fresh, especially the hamachi. The layout was simple. I would prefer a table service type restaurant. But, all in all it was a good dining experience and I will be back

Poke wrap was very good. This place is located in a quiet strip mall with lots of parking. Seems like a great place to get take out. Wrap was a little small for the price but a decent lunch meal. Enough to be just full.

I was craving for Japanese curry and found this place. Order is placed at the counter and food is brought to your table. On this Sunday evening, there were plenty of tables at 6 pm. I had the tonkatsu curry, potato coquette and fountain drink. Along with the entree came miso soup and small green salad. Salad dressing at Asian restaurants is always refreshing. The tonkatsu was served on a bed of rice in most of curry topped with red chopped pickles. I must have spoiled my appetite starting with the potato coquette, enjoying it with the side of dressing. The tonkatsu curry does not disappoint. The pork was nicely breaded and crunchy dipped in the curry and eaten with curry couldn't be more heavenly. The fountain drink offered several choices from a craft soda brewer. The flavors are unique and equally good. Overall, it very nice Sunday meal. read more

This is only my second visit to Origami. Tonight, we wanted to try something that the kids haven't eaten before. And three of the kids that I had tonight, haven't eaten there until this day then it became a new adventure for all of us today. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. Sometimes, we have to take a few moments to make up our minds up on what we want to eat. Origami offers a nice selection of Japanese dishes and appetizers. Tonight, we ordered the dragon roll, the San Ramon roll, Spam musubi, and a potato croquette. The double dragon roll was a definite highlight. The combination of shrimp tempura, crab, avocado, and a creamy spicy sauce made for a flavorful and satisfying sushi roll. The textures and flavors complemented each other nicely. The San Ramon roll was just average in my opinion. With salmon, avocado and cucumber, it was a fairly standard roll without anything to make it stand out. The spam musubi, a Hawaiian specialty of grilled spam on rice wrapped in nori, was tasty and comforting. The salty spam paired well with the rice and seaweed wrapper. However, the potato croquette was a letdown for me. While the exterior was crispy, the potato filling inside was not my favorite. However, my kids really liked it and would order it again! We were happy that I was able to try origami today and had a very good experience. Next time, I think I'm gonna try the udon! read more

Another one of our to-go places for takeouts in San Ramon. A very fun take on the traditional sushi. We love their rainbow wrap and Salmon bake. It's just all around deliciousness. The fish is fresh and the portion is pretty generous. I would definitely recommend read more

Got takeout from here and was feeling pretty hungry so I ordered the San Ramon wrap & the garlic edamame. San Ramon Wrap: So incredibly filling! I thought I'd still be hungry after that but I got particularly full pretty quickly. I loved how much texture there was from the crunch of the lettuce to the softness of the cream cheese. 9/10. I want to try the Salmon Poke wrap next time! Garlic Edamame: Pretty disappointed. I was expecting there to be just garlic and the edamame but it seems like soy sauce was added which wasn't my favorite pairing. It seemed more like a good marinade for chicken than edamame. The soy sauce was overpowering. Definitely order the regular edamame if you're thinking about this one. 2/10 read more

The Dragon Wrap came with shrimp tempura, unagi, kani, avocado, lettuce, and cucumber, making for a tasty, crunchy, creamy combination of ingredients. I also tried the Poke Salad, which came with spring mix, daikon, seaweed salad, onion, cucumber, and avocado, topped with a generous portion of cubed raw salmon and poke sauce. The quality of both the food and service at Origami has significantly declined. During a recent visit, I ordered a VEGGIE tempura wrap and was shocked to find that the wrap was laced with bits of fish eggs: (In the rice, in the wrap, even in the bag.) Unfortunately, this wasn't an isolated incident--on a previous visit, we found imitation crab in another veggie wrap. It is evident that Origami does not value cleanliness nor their customers. These repeated mistakes clearly suggest that workstations are not properly cleaned and that there is a serious lack of care in food preparation. For those with dietary restrictions or allergies, this poses a real health risk. Simply put, disgusting and lazy. It's odd that the restaurant appears to be expanding their location; because with such a disregard of BASIC food safety and lack of value for their customers, they won't be open very long. In regards to service: the younger register staff needs to be trained better, rude and don't seem to want to be there. It's alright, if the restaurant keeps up with these actions, then no one will be there very long. read more
This Japanese restaurant has a wide array of menu items including teriyaki, wraps, bakes, salads, sashimi, sides and appetizers. For their wraps, you can order it either regular or double the size of the wrap. Bakes take approximately 15-20 minutes to cook. Sushi bakes are pretty small for the price point. I enjoyed the lion king wrap that was loaded with baked salmon. It was creamy and had lots of flavor. Sushi bakes are similar to rolls but just deconstructed and basically a casserole. Food: 4/5 Service 2/5 - Cashier was not very friendly and did not seem to care about customer service. 3 staff members were busy sitting down and eating their food. I'm aware of employees taking their breaks but there was nobody in the kitchen when customers started coming inside to order. If they were on a break, it doesn't seem right for 3 people to be taking it at the same time. Looks unprofessional. read more

In search of a place to grab lunch and came across Origami. The sushi bakes caught my attention, but decided to go with the Tonkatsu, and they accommodated my request for more salad and no rice. The tonkatsu was crispy, and I enjoyed it with the salad. I also like the ikageso karaage. Kiddo ordered the ahi poke salad. Good portion of poke and filled with greens. Her only complaint was that there was too much sauce. Boys ordered udon - they thought it looked like a small bowl, but they were full after finishing their bowls. We enjoyed our meals and, if back in the area, I'd like to try one of the sushi bakes. read more

Save & Send this to someone who loves Sushi Bake!! Origami is tucked away in the San Ramon Square plaza, but has been around for 3 years! At first glance, you may think this is a to-go joint for Sushi Wraps, but if you want to dine in, they actually serve restaurant quality Sushi Rolls, Udon, Curry, and Appetizers. But what you really need to get is their Sushi Bake!! Came here for lunch with the boo. It's a small restaurant with few seats, but decent sushi for the price. Most people it seems take away food. We decided to get the Origami double size, salmon bake, and California rolls. Holy moly look at the size of the burrito (my arm for size)!! The salmon bake does take a little wait due to the baking process, and I like that they give you a side of seaweed. Everything was tasty and fresh. Will definitely have to be back to try other things on their menu! read more
We had 3 rolls: Dragon, Poke and California. The Dragon & California rolls were very tasty and fresh. The Poke roll although the tuna was fresh, needed a little more sauce/marinade. I liked how the rice was perfectly cooked. For a small place, the menu was very expansive with lots of options. I believe they are growing into the adjacent space for more dining. Current dining is small and appeared clean with nice decor. Service was okay. We were slightly annoyed that two parties behind us got served before we did but we weren't in a huge hurry so not really factoring that into the rating. We definitely plan to go back and try a wrap and baked item. read more

We were excited to test out this restaurant. However, after receiving the food items ( origami and San Ramon wraps), we must say it is not worthy. 11-13 bucks for a small half rolled is just too pricey!! read more
