Tucked in a small quiet plaza in San Ramon but plenty of parking. The restaurant started off small but now they make sushi wraps, sushi rolls, teriyaki plates, and udon too. They recently expanded into the space next to them so that there is adequate seating for quick take out and dine in options. They also have special deals for in person during the week including $2 CA rolls with a $20 purchase. Our visits are often positive-patient and welcoming staff who is willing to explain everything. You can order at the kiosk or with someone. The unagi in the sushi rolls can be full of bones and is chewy, not my favorite texture, but I like the other rolls I've ordered. Food is decently priced and ingredients taste fresh. Ambiance is clean, generally calm space with indoor and outdoor seatings, good for conversations. Ordered take out from Origami recently. It was our first time checking this place out on the recommendation of some friends who live up in the area. We ordered the following: 2 x crunchy roll - consisted of a shrimp tempura base or middle with kani, topped with tempura flakes and drizzled with unagi sauce. It was quite tasty and made fresh. We also tried their avocado roll and spicy tuna rolls. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy at all and makes me wonder if they made a Tekka Maki instead. For their wraps we tried both their crow canyon wrap - this was similar to the crunch roll with shrimp tempura, kani, avocado, and spicy mayo. And the vegetable tempura wrap came with assorted vegetable tempura, cucumber, and avocado. There is an option to opt for less rice on these wraps which was great. Origami is located off San Ramon Valley Blvd near the Crow Canyon exit off 680. There's plenty of parking at the strip mall they were a part of. Friendly and welcoming employees and clean restaurant. My husband stopped by and ordered us a few rolls while my son was at a birthday party at The Golden Skate nearby. I've had sushi wraps at a few different places, and I enjoyed the Diablo wrap here the best. My son got the NorCal roll since the ingredients are safe for him to eat with his garlic and onion allergy. Needed a quick bite to eat and didn't want anything drive thru. Just pumped gas at Costco and came right over. They expanded and have a full service side of the restaurant coming soon. We sat in the new section that is newly decorated with modern details. We decided to dine IN and everything came out piping hot on ceramic plates. Calamari was nicely fried and perfectly seasonedwith a nice chew. Shared a teriyaki chicken plate and added yakisoba noodles. It's a hearty portion to share since one of us wasn't too hungry. The food here is delicious and reasonably priced. Even better is the amount of food you get too like if you order a teriyaki chicken meal it comes with vegetables and rice. All the flavoring is delicious and the little take out container is good too. The ambiance is good too as there is origami around the walls and other spots too. And the service is really professional as they're nice and friendly. Best of all is being able to see the cooking and hear the sounds of the grill. This isn't a full on sushi restaurant, more like a quick serve spot that happens to do sushi and teriyaki. I ordered the sashimi, which came with six thick cuts of fish for about twenty some dollars. Honestly, it was a fair price for what I got. The fish was fresh, creamy, and had that clean ocean flavor that tells you it's handled right. My only critique would be that they could've tossed in a little more ginger, but that's minor. I also got the garlic edamame, which was on point. Perfectly steamed, flavorful, and not one was tough or soggy. The seasoning had a nice garlicky kick that stuck to the pods just right. The spot itself was completely empty when I went in, which was kind of surprising because the food's actually good. I parked right at the front door, placed my order to go, and sat in my car since the guy behind the counter saw me there. I waited for a while, thinking he might wave when it was ready, but after about fifteen minutes, I went back in and, of course, the food was already sitting there waiting. Not a big deal, but it would've been nice if he gave a signal since I was right there. Still, I'd come back. Nice little place and very nice staffs! Ordered the origami and the dragon. They were so nice about letting me substitue the fish in my origami roll (salmon lover). Food came out really fast. The shrimp tempura inside the rolls were so hot and crispy- loved that! However, in my opinion, the unagi sauce in my roll got a bit sickly at the end that I couldn't finish the last couple bites. Same with my husband with his dragon roll. Maybe it would've been better with some kind of refreshing herbs inside of the roll, like cilantro. All in all a good experience, thank you! read more

This is only my second visit to Origami. Tonight, we wanted to try something that the kids haven't eaten before. And three of the kids that I had tonight, haven't eaten there until this day then it became a new adventure for all of us today. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. Sometimes, we have to take a few moments to make up our minds up on what we want to eat. Origami offers a nice selection of Japanese dishes and appetizers. Tonight, we ordered the dragon roll, the San Ramon roll, Spam musubi, and a potato croquette. The double dragon roll was a definite highlight. The combination of shrimp tempura, crab, avocado, and a creamy spicy sauce made for a flavorful and satisfying sushi roll. The textures and flavors complemented each other nicely. The San Ramon roll was just average in my opinion. With salmon, avocado and cucumber, it was a fairly standard roll without anything to make it stand out. The spam musubi, a Hawaiian specialty of grilled spam on rice wrapped in nori, was tasty and comforting. The salty spam paired well with the rice and seaweed wrapper. However, the potato croquette was a letdown for me. While the exterior was crispy, the potato filling inside was not my favorite. However, my kids really liked it and would order it again! The quality of both the food and service at Origami has significantly declined. During a recent visit, I ordered a VEGGIE tempura wrap and was shocked to find that the wrap was laced with bits of fish eggs: (In the rice, in the wrap, even in the bag.) Unfortunately, this wasn't an isolated incident--on a previous visit, we found imitation crab in another veggie wrap. It is evident that Origami does not value cleanliness nor their customers. These repeated mistakes clearly suggest that workstations are not properly cleaned and that there is a serious lack of care in food preparation. For those with dietary restrictions or allergies, this poses a real health risk. Simply put, disgusting and lazy. It's odd that the restaurant appears to be expanding their location; because with such a disregard of BASIC food safety and lack of value for their customers, they won't be open very long. In regards to service: the younger register staff needs to be trained better, rude and don't seem to want to be there. It's alright, if the restaurant keeps up with these actions, then no one will be there very long. read more

I thought I'd still be hungry after that but I got particularly full pretty quickly. I loved how much texture there was from the crunch of the lettuce to the softness of the cream cheese. 9/10. I want to try the Salmon Poke wrap next time! Garlic Edamame: Pretty disappointed. I was expecting there to be just garlic and the edamame but it seems like soy sauce was added which wasn't my favorite pairing. It seemed more like a good marinade for chicken than edamame. First off, the quality of their food is very good. They're also consistently great at their "to go" orders being correct. However, recently the portion size of the regular wraps have shrunk, significantly. I've been a customer of Origami since they opened. I've always enjoyed their high quality food and quantity of food they provided. Pricey? Maybe a little, but the serving size were worth the extra cost. I would have ordered the "double wrap," but based on the recent size of the regular, it's not worth the price. The California roll has shrunk too. I understand operating costs have risen, but reducing your portion size is not fair to the consumer. Anyone else notice this subtle difference in the wrap or roll sizes? read more

We had 3 rolls: Dragon, Poke and California. The Dragon & California rolls were very tasty and fresh. The Poke roll although the tuna was fresh, needed a little more sauce/marinade. I liked how the rice was perfectly cooked. For a small place, the menu was very expansive with lots of options. I believe they are growing into the adjacent space for more dining. Current dining is small and appeared clean with nice decor. Service was okay. We were slightly annoyed that two parties behind us got served before we did but we weren't in a huge hurry so not really factoring that into the rating. For their wraps, you can order it either regular or double the size of the wrap. Bakes take approximately 15-20 minutes to cook. Sushi bakes are pretty small for the price point. I enjoyed the lion king wrap that was loaded with baked salmon. It was creamy and had lots of flavor. Sushi bakes are similar to rolls but just deconstructed and basically a casserole. Food: 4/5 Service 2/5 - Cashier was not very friendly and did not seem to care about customer service. 3 staff members were busy sitting down and eating their food. I'm aware of employees taking their breaks but there was nobody in the kitchen when customers started coming inside to order. I was extremely pleased with the order taker. I took my order over the phone. Upon pick up the place was very clean and counter attendant was very personal and friendly. I truly enjoyed the Origami wrap and dynamite sauce. My wife was more than pleased with her meal. That was a dental box with fried rice, steamed vegetables and teriyaki chicken. We plan to return and try other items soon. They are also expanding and opening a bar and more seating in the very near future. I can't wait to enjoy the service with ambience.
