My rant isn't about the food, but the service. I was watching what was happening around me. It's either the customer are wrong or the cashier isn't listening I'm seeing order after order customer saying I didn't order this or that.. Anyways , I finally received my food.. took about 30+ minutes for a Friday special . I was recommended by grok in my Tesla to come to this restaurant. I might to think twice after my experience. I live in the area and whenever it is up to me to choose I lean towards Mediterranean food. The annoying thing was Everyone that ordered after me received their food first even though it's the same item. My order was sitting at the counter because the cashier said that order wasny mine.. so I continue to wait. Long story short, when there was no more lines she finally realized that it was my order . I really hope the food does taste good even though it sat out. Update*** Nancy responded to my rant which was nice. About the food.. I ordered the Friday special lamb shank and beef Shawarma for the wife... Long story short the order of lamb shank was devoured not a piece of rice left. Stopped by for lunch around 1pm on a Thursday. They have daily lunch specials but I opted for a Chicken Shawarma Sandwich, instead of the fries that come on the side, I was able to substitute it for a salad! I love that they allow for substitutions. Generally the sandwich comes with no onions, so I asked to add onions. They offer fountain drinks and canned drinks. We ordered at the front, then we sat at a table with a number for them to bring the food to the table. The chicken shawarma sandwich had moist chicken and crunchy veggies.The sandwich comes in a pita which was soft and warm! The side salad was very fresh tasting. I love the crispy pita topping. Another terrific dinner as we keep exploring their menu, and we came on Friday to try their lamb shank, which was delicious over their seasoned rice topped with sliced nuts. The lamb was tender and flavorful. The accompanying cucumber tomato salad was fresh and had just the right amount of salt for our taste. We also enjoyed their outstanding spinach pie appetizer which was fluffy, warm and had a sumac-flavored filling with a tangy tzatziki dipping sauce on the side. I tried the food here once for my birthday a few years ago and I will say, the food here was pretty good. The fries we got were very crispy and flavorful, and the meats and other stuff we got were all very good too. There was a lot of good flavor, and textures were good with no problems as well as so much more. I can complain at all with what we got as the food was worth the price of what we paid. The service overall was good too there were no complaints there at all. And the ambiance has a nice quiet interior because it has beautiful wall murals as well as had the right setting to feel like where the food originated from. If you're ever in San Ramon go to here and give it a try as it's worth it. read more

I had my meal hours ago and I'm still angry I spent $50 on what I ate. I ordered the Shish Tawook (Chicken Kabob) - SO DRY... I had to force myself to eat it because of how much I paid. There is no reason why a restaurant can be in business for so many years, charge so much and serve dry unflavored chicken. Rice was the same nothing to remember. I was very disappointed. The knafeh. I ate two bites and left the entire plate there... let's just leave it at that. Fattoush salad was okay but I would have been happier if they would have used fresher lettuce for the prices they were charging. I don't even leave reviews but this was such a disappointing meal I couldn't help myself... not sure who is leaving these positive reviews. My partner and I just had Asian food the other day, so we wanted a different cuisine today and opted for Mediterranean food! Because we wanted to go to Sports Basement as well, Shish Grill was the perfect spot for lunch (same plaza with plenty of parking). I've personally never been there, but my partner has and remembers the food here being great. Thus I had some expectations going in. After browsing their menu online, I knew I wanted to try an appetizer that I don't see too often - Spinach Pie with a side of vegan sauce. I also wanted to try the Lavash Wrap (with a side salad) as I've never had that too. My partner opted for the Shish Kabob, with lamb as choice of meat and a side of soup. And of course, we had to try the housemade Baklava. Ordering is all done at the counter and they're supposed to give you a number sign so servers know which order goes to which table, buuuuut our cashier / counter guy forgot to give us our number sign. I think that's why there was some confusion with our order when we went back to also order a side of fries. The guy wanted to input the fries into our current order, but couldn't find our order number or something. Food came fairly quick though so that's a plus. Though the place is kinda small, it seems to get quite a lot of food traffic. We were able to get a table inside, but there's tables outside as well. First came the Spinach Pies (3 pieces). I also thought that the side of vegan sauce was supposed to come with this appetizer since the menu said to "ask for vegan sauce" if needed for this specific menu item. It normally comes with tzatziki. I asked about it, but the sauce came with our entrees instead. The spinach pies itself was pretty interesting. It has a light, puffy, thin outer layer and inside is filled with cooked spinach. I like that the spinach was nicely flavored and didn't have the gritty texture it normally comes with. Although it was tasty, I would probably opt to try a different appetizer next time. As for my entree, the side of salad was a nice touch. There were crunchy, thin pita or lavash pieces sprinkled in my salad. Portion size for a side salad was good and it provided a nice and light contrast to the entree. My Lavash Wrap was served on a bed of rice and it was a good size portion (very comparable to what I usually see in similar styled Mediterranean restaurants). The outer layer of the wrap was crunchy and the meat inside had really good flavor to it. The garlic sauce it came with was a perfect pairing too. I didn't end up finishing my entree, but I'm happy to have my second half sometime later so that I can enjoy these flavors again. If they had Lavash Wrap as a menu item just by itself, and not as an entree, I would probably love it even more. Lastly, the Baklava. This was so delicious as well. The layers weren't hard to cut through at all like some Baklavas are. That being said though, I think it would be because there's less syrup or honey mixed in. So less sweet, but the layers were really crispy and flakey! We were almost tempted to get more to try, but maybe next time we'll try a different flavor Baklava! Overall, food was fantastic. Decent and comparable pricing for the portion you get. My partner thought his lamb Shish Kabob was made really well. Better than our usual, more local favorite spot, so that's saying something. Service was okay - a bit confusing at times, but all in all, I can see why this spot has such nice reviews! read more

Stopped by on a Tuesday evening and ordered at the counter (togo). There are quite a few tables inside along with a big tv that was showing the WNBA game. The food took around 10-15 minutes. I ordered the spicy chicken, which was flavorful and well cooked. The house salad along with the white sauce paired very well with the chicken. I would say that there was a little bit too much spicy sauce (which wasn't spicy), which made the rice soggy. The plate was also a good size and could be shared between two if you are not super hungry. I also ordered the shish salad, which was a lot bigger than I thought, but look forward to trying it later! read more

There is a dearth of Lebanese restaurants in the Bay Area. I no longer care because Shish Grill exists and it is perfect. Fresh, perfectly done, authentic Lebanese food! The staff is friendly and very helpful. Order the special, whatever it is, even if you've never had it. Sheeshhhhh or should I say Shish?! I usually have to be in the mood for Greek or Mediterranean food, but this place truly hit the spot. Everything tasted like a nice home-cooked meal and was presented with such care I felt like the only thing that was missing was the terrace water view. The lady helping us had a smile on her face the whole time and the atmosphere of the place was inviting and cozy. The menu was pretty vast and the prices were reasonable enough that we decided to "splurge" and go for the entree option since it had a side option of lentil soup or the salad. Entrees came with a bed of rice pilaf that was so soft and tasty. The thoughts: The side salad was incredibly refreshing with a vinaigrette dressing and combined seasonings. The crunch from the pita chips really did wonders as well. Beef shawarma was tender and seasoned really well / not salty. I liked how it was cut up small and had the same seasonings as the salad! The tzatziki sauce was more creamy and less dill-y than the usual. Everything was cohesive and accompanied each other. Definitely a hidden gem and would love to come back again and try new things! Came in here mid day sometime last week and I had a shish tawook plate. The chicken was extremely flavorful and so was the rice. As a true middle eastern foodie that I am I know that this truly hits the spot. Born and raised in a Arab household you know what's truly great and what is not and this place truly was the best I've had in a very long time. The people working there were very kind as well and service was for sure top notch. They got the best garlic as well literally. Dropped by here on a long drive back from Alameda back to Mountain View. I was recommended the spicy chicken plate as their most popular dish and I had no hesitation in going for it, description had everything I love - chicken breast, grilled/roasted onions and peppers along with spicy and garlic sauce! What more do you need? I must say it was bomb! Everything went so well together. Chicken breast itself was tender and not too try, it had a perfect kick of spice (through the sauce) along with the onions and peppers (maybe slightly higher in oil but it added to the taste). I had it with the bulgar and loved that too. It was a change up from the rice that I usually have. I have had freekeh before but not bulgar. You will not need extra sauce because it's already pretty saucy. Garlic sauce on the side was also amazing (as in picture). Opted for the Lentil soup along with the dish (comes for free) and the warm soup on a cold day definitely helped! Was pretty soothing for me. Came here tonight after playing pickleball. Just searched for nearby food and this one popped up. 3 stars for the food, but 4 stars for service and ambiance. So I guess it bumps it up to 4 overall. We came around 7:30pm and they had decent amount of tables. The worker at the counter was very patient with us as we changed our mind on the order serval times. He knew we were sharing and gave us two plates and two sets of silverware, so that was nice. He was great! The bathroom was also super clean and smelled nice. Big mirror inside of it. The trash was full, but it was the end of the day, so no biggie. I was quite impressed with the bathroom. We decided to share the Monday & Tuesday Special. It was Mansaf. A lamb shank over rice with some sauce. The lamb was nice and tender. But the sauce and the flavor was a bit off for us. We both thought it was a bit too creamy and sour tasting for our liking. Dropped in for lunch, I got the Chicken Swarma sandwhich and my buddy got the gyro plate. The meat was so tender and flavorful it just melted in my mouth. Came with fries - crispy, hot, well seasoned everything you could want from a good frie. My buddy ordered the hummus with some pita bread as well. I usually hate hummus but god damn, I could drink that stuff all day and nights so goooooood Tying it all together, these nice people had chili hot sauce at the counter. Didn't even tell us about it but grabbed it and threw it on everything just elevated the flavors to a whole new level. The lavash wrap was one of my faves, packed with different flavors and textures. Made with beef and lamb (same meat as kafta), it's fresh with onions and parsley and still juicy with a nice crunch. We also got the combination plate with chicken, kafta, and beef. The chicken was perfectly charred on the outside and tender inside. Delicately amazing. The charred veggies on the side brought everything together. The spicy chicken deserves its own spotlight: you will not find this at a traditional Lebanese restaurant! The meat is ridiculously tender, super saucy, is sweet, sour, spicy, and smoky all at once. Their housemade hot sauce is their own creation, blending flavors from different cultures into something unique to The Shish Grill. We were lucky to get to try the baklava fresh out of the oven. It's packed with 4 nuts: cashews, almonds, pistachios, and walnuts. The ashtalieh, a creamy rose water and orange blossom pudding drizzled with honey and pistachios, is light, floral, and the perfect sweet ending. You can tell this place is a true labor of love. Nancy, the owner, is so kind, humble, and proud of her roots, and it shows in every bite.
