Quick review update: Food (4 stars) + Kids Chapli is a huge portion that can feed both of my little ones. It is very good too! Nice crispy minced beef with afghan spices that I cannot make out. Rice is very flavorful and their lavash style bread makes it that much more special. (5+ stars) - Lamb chops were over cooked even though we explicitly said medium rare since we requested it to go. We wanted to be able to warm it up at home, and still keep it tender. Nope, it's well done. This was my first time having Halal and this place absolutely blew my mind away. When we arrived, we were greeted and sat away by our amazing server. We opt in for the outdoor seating with this canal made inside the plaza and heaters placed all around. What we ordered: Sampler kabob (5/5): this came with chaplee, chicken and beef so you get a little bit of variety to try from. This dish was so delicious, all the ingredients were super fresh and goes well together. Bolani Potatoes: (4/5): was surprised by the huge portion size and was not expecting so much for an appetizer. Other wise, simply delicious and had this yogurt sauce to dip from, great flavor balance! Lamb Kabobs: (5/5): off the grill type of flavor, you can taste the char on each individual lamb chop. The meat was buttery and melts in your mouth, a must get if you ever come here. Overall this was such an amazing place to try middle eastern food for my first time. One of my favorite places to eat - probably at least once a week. When I'm craving a good bolani (squash and leek is my fave) and ask for it extra crispy! Their chicken combo platter with tekka kabob is also a must. My daughter loves it. This cute little restaurant has beautiful outdoor seating, with a small playground nearby that my daughter loves to play at. The food is always consistent and the team there is always outstanding. Outside dining was a little more popular compared to sitting inside- this restaurant was beautifully decorated outside, with lovely traditional Afghan pillows. By the time Hubs drove to pick up, it was ready to go so it was still hot when he got back home. They even remembered the utensils, which most places forget or have to be reminded of. Seriously. The chicken kabob I had last night was absolutely....DELICIOUS. I am stingy when it comes to giving out stars, so rarely do I give a 5. However, I have had enough kabob/ kebab dishes in my lifetime to know that this was one of the freshest, tastiest, tender & moist chicken kabobs I have had. Period. The seasoned rice was perfectly cooked and piping hot. The bread had a nice chew and not cardboard tasting like other kabob houses. Even the sides were so good. The staff is really nice too, they come by enough to make sure you're covered, but not in a hovering way. But the FOOD HERE IS AMAZING! The bolani was make to order and fresh and the chaplee were just sooo soo sooooo good (perfectly moist inside but charred on the outside just enough to give a crunch). The setting is out of a movie set that transports you to another county, yet it is in beautiful and amazing Blackhawk shopping center. The food quality is excellent. Having had Afghan food my whole life I'll admit my standards are different. When I go out for it I expect it to be better than what I can make, not on par or worse. I ordered the combo plate and the meat was cooked perfectly. Just wish it had more flavoring. The rice was steamed well with whole grains, yet again lacked flavoring and the proper coloring. As one of the kids pointed out, the rice was a hybrid between chalau (white rice) and palau (brown rice). In my opinion it was rice doused in kitchen bouquet and passed off as Afghan palau. As an appetizer we ordered the bolani and I can definitely make it better. It had some heat to it, again lacked salt and flavoring. Service was mediocre at best. They brought out the food, but the water bottles sat empty. I asked for water twice (once in each language) and it fell on deaf ears. She went on to tell us the story of origin of the restaurant & how she was inspired by the city in Afghanistan to base her restaurant off of. There aren't that many places in the world that have the ability to teleport you to another country. This restaurant has a balance of authentic Afghan traditions, such as the ethnic outside seating, mouth watering flavors of the food, also the subtle classic music of Ahmad Zahir playing in the background, and the modern touch of their comfortable padded seats with the views of the massive fountain to allow your mind to wonder off while enjoying their piping hot glass of black tea. As I took a bite of that first piece of Teka I was instantly teleported to a park in Kabul enjoying an authentic meal with my cousins. This place embodies the best of Afghan cuisine, from the family vibes, to their mouth water food. The food and service was exceptional this evening. We love Afghan and Persian food. I don't eat pork and shellfish so I absolutely embrace and enjoy the food. I always say that the food "tastes very clean". Every dish was excellent and tasty. My girls absolutely loved their meals and couldn't get enough. Growing up in Hawai'i we are known as the melting pot; so I always want my girls to embrace every culture and the food. 786 Kabob House did not disappoint. Aaron was wonderful and explained each dish to us. We felt like we were guests at his hale. We enjoyed eating outdoors next to the heater. It was comfortable and warm and we were so relaxed. Their house tea was so good and I could smell and taste the rose water. I couldn't get enough! The dogh was refreshing and very light. It complimented the meal very well too. The beef and chicken were very tender and soooo good! Like I said, we couldn't get enough. My youngest rarely eats beef and she immediately asked for it and ate every single bite. Unfortunately they sold out of baklava; but, the firni was very light and cleansed our palate.
