Still our favorite Afghan place in the Tri-Valley. Nothing fancy but always freshly and flavorfully prepared. Pricing are going up everywhere but Kabul Kebab has somehow become a pretty decent value! Ordered 3 dishes for 3 adults and it was more than we really needed. Also ended up ordering potato bolani which was absolutely delicious, but probably not needed as our main dishes were more than enough. Happens when you order hungry sometimes. I love Afghan cuisine, but unfortunately this did not meet my expectation at all. We ordered takeout and tried the following dishes: 1. Triple Kabob (with Chicken, Koobideh, and Beef Chapli): 2/5, despite having lots of spices, probably had not the right combination of spices, not well seasoned, kind of bland, and very dry 2. Beef Teka Kabob: 1/5, extremely overcooked and not well seasoned 3. Qabili Palaw: 2/5. Sooo disappointed, because this is my absolute favorite Afghan dish, and it was not well prepared at all. It looked like all components were separately cooked and put together. 4. Beef Manto: 4/5. this was actually pretty good. Still not the best Manto I've had, but something that I would like to order again 5. Bolani Kachaloo: 3/5. Good, but not great. It could have had more filling and more flavorful. The place was a Mom and Pop, no Mom in sight, just 1 guy running the everything... cooking, ordering, serving, busing, etc.. he seems to handle the volume. Mostly take out, but they have a dinning room with 6 tables. The place is clean, not to much clutter in the non dinning space. Usually with Mom and Pops they have tons of personal clutter everywhere, this place does a good job keeping it to a minimal. I ordered: Triple Kabob - Chicken Kabob, Koobideh and Beef Chapli (4 Star $25) All 3 kabobs were awesome! Good quality, perfectly cooked. The Chapli was crisp on the outside soft in the inside. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The Koobideh was seasoned well and tender. Loved the 2 sauce they served, the green sauce and the red sauce. The red was a little spicy, but not too much. We ordered the following: Borani banjan (aka eggplant) - ***** Sauteed and baked eggplant topped with garlic yogurt and sprinkled dried mint. I'm not vegetarian but I enjoyed this dish a lot. We ate it with the bread. Triple combo of chapali beef, koobidieh, and chicken w/rice + salad - *****, the chapali beef was my fave. The food here is very flavorful and the portions are generous. I ordered via DoorDash. I liked how they wrapped my food securely to go and made me feel safe and comfortable eating it. But first thing I noticed is they added water to the chicken qorma .. it had zero flavor .. maybe didn't make any fresh and used what they had and added water to make more qorma which was disappointing since I was craving it all day. Also the qorma looks nothing like the pic, the sauce isn't red, it's a brown sauce. I also was expecting white rice challow with it but it was brown rice. My mom and I decided to try Kabul. They seem to do a lot of DoorDash and take out orders, but we decided to dine in! We both got kabob plates and the Bolani appetizer, which is one of our favorites. The Bolani appetizer was HUGE!!!! It could feed a family of six and it was just us two, so I'm sure you could imagine how much leftovers we had to take home! I got the steak kabob and my mom got the chicken kabob. It comes with salad and rice and they also serve bread before your entrees. The ladies who cook the food are very talented. It takes awhile for the food to come out because they make everything fresh & from scratch! The ambiance is quiet and is very family oriented. They cook with corn oil. Our usual place was packed so we tried here and were impressed with the good quality and taste. I was happy they have mantoo without beef and it was very good (though my cousin said the beef mantoo was better at the other place). The eggplant app was really good! Service was very nice, the place is a bit small, and the bathroom requires you walk outside and use a code and there was no soap in there. :/ But otherwise I will go back it's very good. This is a mom and pop restaurant. They are very busy and don't have enough servers to manage diners but do the best with the limited staff. I'm going to leave a great review because the food was good and service was notable. The prices are decent and portion is large enough for one person plus leftovers. A lil gem we just discovered!!! Beef mantoo was really good. Very tender and generous portion. Chapli kabob and kobedah was really good as well. Finally got to try this place since I've been meaning to for the longest time. First off, don't be too worried about no one sitting indoors. Not sure if it's due to lack of seating, but otherwise, they have quite a few takeout orders. I ordered the chicken and beef kabob combo while my boyfriend ordered the Chapli combo. The salad that came with it is pretty good compared to most Mediterranean/Afghan/Middle Eastern restaurants I've been to. Slightly tart but not just pure tart. The dressing has some form of cream or yogurt base to it. For the meats, the chicken and beef were both seasoned well and flavorful through and through. The beef maybe slightly overdone but it's really not bad at all. The chicken was also cooked well. They give you a fair amount of seasoned rice which I always look forward to. Seasoned basmati rice is my fave. The only thing I wish they had on the takeout menu was a dessert section. I don't know if it's on the dine in menu but there's photos of their menu with Baklava on it. But the takeout menu didn't have any form of dessert to it. That said, I would definitely come here again. The price is extremely good for what it is compared to some of the pricier locations. read more

It's like eating at a library in the study section, extremely quiet. Server was very strict about hygiene, always using and changing his gloves. I guess that's a good thing. Love this place. I used to go to the one in San Carlos when I lived in the Bay Area many years ago. The pumpkin Kadoo was so good and still is. It's sweet and I get with the meat sauce and yogurt on the side. Last time I had left overs and ate it cold and still loved it. The kabobs are huge with two large skewers. I get the chicken and love the flavor and spices but it is not hot spicy. Always tender and also good cold for left overs. Nice atmosphere and decorations and service was good. Our order: mantu (appetizer size, they're like dumplings with lentils sauce), bolani, 3 chicken combo (chicken kabob, skewer, and patty). Total cost after tax and 18% tip was about $60. There were only 2 of us but we ordered enough food for 4 people. Pros: - HUGE portions, especially when it comes to the bolani. It came on a huge platter and even after 2 of us ate multiple pieces, it looked like we didn't touch it. Kept very well as we ate it for another meal at home. - Easy to find, parking wasn't too bad on a weekend for lunch, there's a designated parking lot next to some townhomes, and since it's next to boba bliss it's always a dessert stop for us before we go home - I LOVED the Mantu dish - we got the appetizer size but the regular size is larger and it's such good value, so unique and delicious. We've gotten it via takeout before and it also keeps very well, super well done and the sauce and seasoning is so good. - Pretty reasonable prices for the quantity and quality of food you're getting - especially because it's kind of hard to find Afghan food in the area. - It's always a good sign when you see a bunch of Afghan customers, it's legit. The vibe is like you're in the kitchen of an Afghan mom, so delicious. - They take AMEX - Their Green tea is actually really good! Has a unique taste Cons: - Could be hard to come here with a party greater than 4, would strongly suggest reservations if the party is larger, since there's only a few tables inside. - Can take a while for the food to come out, but I think it's because a lot of their business is through takeout orders, and there was a big party of 10+ at the same time as us. This is a great place to get Kabobs. My kids really like the Koobideh. We had to order extra meat for them. I liked how they have a balance of meat, rice and a side of salad. The kabobs were all tender and juicy. I especially liked the lamb kabob. It was tasty, fragrant, but not overwhelming. Each order comes with a generous serving of meat and rice. What an improvement in our takeout experience! My husband wanted Afghan for his Father's Day dinner and we ordered from Kabul. Online ordering was simple and our food was ready within the 45 minute window. Everything was delicious! Our favorite dishes were the Mantoo and the Beef Koobideh. Our order of Mantoo included 11 steamed dumplings stuffed with ground beef, onions and spices that were topped lentils, mint and a garlic yogurt sauce. So good! This spot has become a regular for me. I've been here both with family and for takeout and the food and service is always good. Recently I've been ordering off of their takeout special menu and loving it. Prices are a steal for what you get. I usually call in my order on my way home from work and it's always packed up and ready to go when I get there. My last order was Chicken Chapli Kabobs and O.M.G. soooo good. It has two Chapli patty's, rice and a small salad. You can order to have it made spicy as well and I liked having the option. I've also ordered Bolani & Mantu in the past and also liked it. Portions are huge and share worthy or enough leftover for a meal the next day. I previously gave this place a 5 star review because their food was delicious. I have been eating here for years and always enjoyed the food. My favorite item has been the chicken kabob plate. Recently, they changed how they make the chicken, and it's completely flavorless. The chicken has no color and tastes like they just grilled plain pieces of chicken. I first tasted the new chicken kabob last month and was disappointed with it. But I decided to give them another chance in case it was just a mistake. I tried it again, and it's exactly like the last time. If you look at older photos on yelp, you'll see how it has a red color and looks like it's covered in spices. Been eyeing this spot for a while since it's next door to Boba Bliss. Because it looks empty, I wasn't sure if it was promising but ratings on Yelp had me curious. Hubby and I decided to give it a try for dinner one night - sure enough, we were the only ones dining in. The good news was that there were several people that passed by to pick up their orders. We ordered the Chicken and Beef Combo Kabob and the Lamb Qurma (curry). I can see why dining in isn't favorable - paper plates, paper napkins, and plastic utensils were provided. The bread was wrapped in plastic wrap. I wasn't a fan of the bread - it seemed stale and chewy but paired with the dip that came with it, the bread tasted delicious! The combo dish that we ordered came with 4 pieces of beef and 4 pieces of chicken. I have to admit, I was pretty disappointed. Same with the Lamb Qurma - a few pieces of lamb. For what they are charging, it seemed pretty cheap on their end to serve a plate full of rice. Regardless of the unbalanced portion, I have to say their dishes were amazing and rich with flavor, particularly the Lamb Qurma Curry. No gamey taste either. The meat on both plates was tender but the curry could have been served on its own with the stale bread. I really want to give this 4 stars but I took one star away because of the paper plates and the stingy meat portion. Otherwise, really good, authentic dishes! read more
