Baklava and Turkish delights
George B.

Excellent Mediterranean Market with so many variety of spices, sweets, Mediterranean food. The service is fantastic with great knowledge and help of recipes. Its family run business and every time we walk in... we feel home. Very clean and organized with great prices. Love Shish market.

Assorted Turkish Delights

While I was waiting for my dinner to be prepared from Shish Grill, I had a little extra time to peruse the market next door. It's a very nice family run market. They offer you great customer service. WOW, they have so many amazing different choices of foods to choose from. Since I am rather new to Mediterranean food, I was like a kid in a toy store. The cool thing about being right next door to Shish Grill is Nancy the Chef, is close to answer any questions I have. I am excited to come back and visit again soon.

Knafe dessert
Maria G.

The store is small, they have soo many products! I wanted to go specifically for the Knafe thinking they would have freshly baked one since they did had other fresh baked desserts but they only had it frozen. It was difficult to explain it to the man there because of there was some language barrier. He only pointed us to the frozen section so we took some home and microwaved it. It was good but I woulnt prefer it to purchase it frozen. Maybe its just my preference.

Great neighborhood grocery specialty store. Excellent selection and very good for catering and any event. Best appetizers, Hummus, spinach pies, homemade kebbeh and sweets like Knafeh and ashtalia. All sweets are a must for any event and party. Service is great and staff are amazing. Very clean and organized.

Array of Turkish delights

I usually get food from the grill almost twice a week but never gave this store a try. Good god have I been missing out! Every single spice I need plus sooo much more! There's a fridge full of different variations of baklava's and Turkish delights galore! The store has so many items it's quite overwhelming to be honest. Most of the items are things that are unfamiliar to me however the staff are very helpful. I had about a thousand questions. It's a cute little hole in the wall. Shelves are stacked and neatly organized. Definitely will be adding this store to my weekly shopping trips especially for the European chocolates.

Looks very promising, I saw the advertisement on Facebook about the soft grand opening of sorts. I've eaten at the restaurant a few times and this is a welcome addition to the area at least imo. The place itself is clean and decent size to maybe small to some people. The shelves are or were at the time getting there in terms of being full or fully stocked. I'm not an aficionado on cooking from this region but I will say their prices are within range and reasonable on some of the stuff I did somewhat recognize. As for the cashiers, they were very friendly and attentive because they were asking for possible suggestions for additional products for their store, for me I could only think of frozen lotus root which I saw at a local Indian market..so we'll see if they decide to bring it in or not.

Same owner next market adi at market young boy was very gentle and helpful thank you !!!

I love shopping here because it's so organized, cleaned, and prices are very reasonable. No lines and very convenient. If you're looking to make your next Mediterranean meal you must shop at shish Market. Also the have halal nuggets, Turky, soujook, bistrami, and beef frank... don't miss out

I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!

Updates review after 8 years (!)…read more Danville International Market continues to offer some of the best take-out kabob rice plates. We used to come here frequently before the pandemic, but for some reason stopped coming on the years since. I yearned to come back since our 4yo loves Persian-style rice and the kabobs at Santorini nearby are inconsistent - sometimes juicy and sometimes dry. With Yelp's Grubhub app, you can order for pickup and customize. Its amazing you can choose thigh or breast for chicken. Definitely get the thigh for a juicier chicken! They even let you customize the rice preparation: * The basic saffron rice is the classic white basmati rice with some saffron to give it some yellow color. This is my son's favorite and he can probably devour an entire plate. * Jewel-style adds candied shredded carrots, orange zest and pistachios for added crunch and sweetness. *Zareshk-style used barberries to add some tartness to balance out the sweet, and is another one of our favorites. Definitely will use their Grubhub ordering system going forward. Besides the awesome kabob plate, they also offer several Persian stews and desserts.

It's obvious when people are abusing the service‑animal policy--their behavior and the behavior of the animal make it clear. Unfortunately, the law protects them, leaving H‑Mart with limited options, though other shoppers can still call it out. Maybe if Alameda County Health observed the abuse they could fine the owners of the animal. I bought Shastha Dosa Batter with an expiry date of March 26, 2026. While preparing lunch for my family on a Saturday afternoon, I opened the pack and found it completely rotten. This is now the third time this has happened. The previous two times, I didn't bother driving 15 minutes each way because spending 30 minutes away from my family during mealtime for an $8 refund or exchange simply wasn't worth it. This time, however, I took a stand and drove back to the store, taking time away from my family and lunch. They thankfully replaced the product, which I appreciate -- but they didn't seem concerned enough to take a stronger stand with the supplier, Shastha Foods. It will likely make a difference only when it starts to pinch them -- for example, if they consistently have to compensate customers beyond the price of the product for wasted time, inconvenience, and disruption to family time. When that happens, they may finally take stronger action on behalf of their customers. I've been a long-time customer of both the store and Shastha, but I'm seriously reconsidering giving them my business if they don't show more accountability toward the customers who support them.

Green Fish Seafood & Grocery is a mostly Asian supermarket that offers a variety of things from…read moremost places, though, after going there it's apparent it's mostly a Chinese market. It's located on the borderline of Walnut Creek and Alamo-ish areas, and certainly not in an area most people would be driving by unless you live in this area since it's mostly residential here, or you're driving through Olympic locally for something in that direction that's not the downtown. First things first, it's a small place. It's a local market, so it's not going to be very large. They do have their own parking lot in the front, and there's also plenty of parking in the back as well, so that shouldn't be an issue here even though the store is small. While I've seen some people note this as a Japanese market, it is not. While they carry a small section of Japanese stuff, here, most of the things are very much a Chinese focused type of offerings, from the types of produce, to the packaged stuff here. They'll have some miscellaneous stuff like a section just for pastas and sauces in the right side of the store on a rack, they're mostly a Chinese market. If you need a comparison, they're like a mini 99 Ranch. Price wise, it's about right for this area. If you compare it to other grocery market chains it's definitely not comparable, but for a local market in this area, it's not bad. The fish is indeed on the more expensive side, but it does look pretty fresh at least so there's that. They also have some to-go sushi boxes of stuff. It's nice to see they have a variety of offerings from their sushi to-go options, albeit, not cheap but at least they did look pretty good though. The sashimi boxes looked great because the fish quality appears to be great here. The only thing again, it is a bit pricey for some of these options, so just be aware of that. Green Fish is a nice little market for this area, and certainly will have a variety of things here you may be interested in. Again, it's not a large market, so just be aware of space if they do get busy. The fish counter is literally wedged into the corner of the store, but still offers fresh seafood options for those locally to buy from (albeit a bit pricey). They have offerings of various things akin to 99 Ranch, but certainly more focused on mostly Chinese and Japanese as oppose to Ranch that offers a lot of different Asian brands too. While they have pastas and sauces and stuff, that's basically it for the non-Asian market stuff. This is very much an Asian market. I will definitely want to try out some of those takeout rolls and maybe their sashimi eventually.
