We got food and other groceries on 1/2. Food purchased was the Barg and another plate. As I was eating the Barg plate I noticed I was chewing on something that wasn't food. I spit the food out and realized it was the tip of a knife or blade. I had the tip of a fucking knife in my mouth! We immediately called them and spoke with an owner who said they would look into it. The next day I went in person and the other owner/manager knew nothing about it. He reluctantly gave us the money back. He took us to the back with the head chef who chuckled and said "it's just a small piece" in Farsi. Lost all trust in this place and will never spend another dollar here. 3.5 stars Sahara Market is a Middle Eastern grocery store and restaurant offering an array of Afghani and Persian kebabs and other dishes. The kebabs were taken straight from the butcher counter before being grilled, and the Tikka Combination came with marinated tri-tip beef and chicken skewers, while the Koobideh Combination came with a skewer each of ground beef kebab and ground chicken kebab. However, I was an even bigger fan of the Afghani specialties including Mantu, or thin-skinned dumplings with a filling of spiced ground meat and onions, topped with yogurt, dried mint, and spiced chickpeas; and the Potato Bolani, an absolutely gigantic grilled flatbread with a filling of spiced potato between two thin layers of dough, served with a spicy green chutney and yogurt on the side. From the refrigerated counter, I also got sides of hummus (which had a distinct nutty chickpea flavor) and kashk o bademjan, a dip made of mashed eggplant and strained yogurt, both of which went nicely with the crusty flatbread that came with the kebabs. Sadly, the man at the counter accused us of stealing a pound of ground beef. I know this sounds completely absurd, so here's the story: We ordered kebabs to have at the sit down portion and paid for ground beef at that checkout. Then two people in our party purchased two other items from the grocery portion of the market. When we went to put our uncooked deli meat into the car's cooler the man at the counter ran after my sister outside to her car and accused her of theft of the one pound of ground beef. Why would we pay for cooked food to eat and also grocery items but then try to steal a pound of beef ?!?!? My sister showed him the receipt and then he said he didn't want to see it. If you accuse someone of theft then don't act even more rudely by not letting them show proof of purchase. During a religious holiday season it was shocking and sad to be accused of theft by the paranoid man at the counter. I won't come to this establishment again. There is no valid reason to treat customers this way. They have 20 security cameras displayed at their grocery counter and it's strange because shouldn't these be displayed to the store owners? Now I suspect they want customers to see this because they have a paranoid owner. If you want to be treated like a criminal for supporting this establishment then by all means go ahead. As for me, there are myriad other stores in the area who aren't run by crazy people. read more

Date of Visit: June 11, 2025 I'm deeply disappointed by my recent experience at Sahara Market Restaurant, which used to be one of my favorite spots. Unfortunately, things have changed--particularly due to poor customer service, especially from the restaurant owner's son who is now taking orders. I called in my order and gave clear, specific instructions: one order of chicken koobideh and one order of beef koobideh, both family style, placed together in a single aluminum tray. I even told him I didn't mind paying extra--just please make sure it's all packed in one tray. He agreed. When I arrived, I found the order packed completely wrong. The chicken and beef koobideh were separated into different containers--some in plastic boxes--and the beef koobideh was overcooked and burnt. To make things worse, the presentation looked sloppy, as if someone had thrown together leftovers. There used to be a great grill cook named Obaid, who always made sure the food was perfect. Sadly, it's clear he's no longer there. When I reminded the owner's son about my request and mentioned again that I was willing to pay extra, he was dismissive and rude. He made sarcastic and inappropriate comments in Farsi, clearly assuming I wouldn't understand--which is both unprofessional and disrespectful, especially considering that many of their customers do understand the language. Instead of fixing the issue, he doubled down and claimed it was "policy" not to package food in aluminum trays, despite agreeing to it earlier over the phone. To be honest, the service has drastically declined, the food quality is worse, and the staff--especially the owner's son--display a complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service skills. It's becoming clear this place is cutting corners, overcharging, and disrespecting loyal customers. Based on this experience--and hearing similar complaints from others--I will no longer be returning. Had an awful experience today . Got some chapli chicken marinated meat, went to the restaurant area to order food to go . i paid for both in the restaurant cashier. My Mom got some other items , once she paid , i took both our items to put in the cooler in the car as our food was still being made . As i was putting the stuff in the cooler of my car . the owner comes out and tells me i didn't pay for the chapli meat . I told him why would i leave the store without paying. Then i looked at my receipt to double check & indeed I had paid. Then I proceeded to go back inside and show it but the owner now acted like he didn't want to look at it. This is such a cute little market when you walk in you have so many items to choose from from spices tease treats, bread everything then if you go into the next room, you can order food which they make fresh daily. You can see it that's being made definitely lots of little decor here and there. I was greeted by a young gentleman, gave me some offers of things that I would like to get regarding if I want chicken or beef or both the only thing I do agree with other reviewers is that I wish the plate came with rice already because it's already a little expensive for just two pieces of beef or chicken rice is really not that hard to make and they make so much of it so a plate would be better than à la carte but the flavors were there. I ordered the mixed plate half koobedeh half chicken and I did pay for the rice, but the little pieces of tadig added was delicious! Definitely recommend if you're in the neighborhood for some Persian food. It's hits the spot read more

The staff were friendly and helpful with finding anything you need. They have all the necessities and ingredients to make Arabic/persian cuisine. The best (and only) halal prepared meats I know in the area. This place has a market and a restaurant with a large spacious sitting area. They offer free wifi and friendly service. They are not too busy, so you can quickly get what you need. They have plenty of parking. This place is located on Dublin Blvd so it's easy to get to. If you order food from the restaurant, it is made to share. So expect general portions. I especially like the falafel and rice. read more

I order their beef shawarma wrap and it was the worst wrap I ever had. It was filled with with a whole bunch of lettuce, small slices of dry, salty beef, and some hot sauce. The extensive array of groceries, aromatic spices, and freshly baked bread showcased the authenticity and quality of their products. The integration of a restaurant within the store added an extra layer of convenience. What took me by surprise was the peculiar but manageable business process of requiring a minimum $10 total for card transactions or else you are required to pay in cash. While it might be an inconvenience for small purchases, it also encouraged me to explore more of the store's offerings. They certainly offer an extensive selection of items so in that respect I do recommend a visit... just be sure to bring cash. read more

As a kid, my mom used to always buy me food from this place and I loved it. So yesterday, I decided to return and buy some dinner for my family. First off, the menu online is incorrect, as the lady taking my order confirmed. Then upon arrival, I went to pick up my food and was greeted by an individual not fully covering their face. This made me uncomfortable. But I still got my food and returned to the car. That's when I noticed that they hadn't given me any utensils for the 4 to go orders. AMAZING service and THE BEST food. We got the family platter with Baklava and it was amazing!!! By far the best Persian food we've tried. The chicken and meat was perfectly juicy and marinated, even the rice was heavenly, not to mention the dips!!!! Everything was house made with some exceptions. My family enjoys Afghan and Persian food especially all the delicious kebabs and meats. This restaurant was recommended by my son's Afghan friends. Actually they said homemade was best, but Sahara is good. We tried a variety of dishes and they were all delicious! All the meats were well seasoned, juicy and perfectly cooked. The chapli plate was my son's favorite. It's a seasoned, spicy ground beef patty. The plate included bread and salad and we added rice. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. I've driven by this market so many times and I'm happy we finally tried the food. The restaurant is located in the market and the store is much bigger than it looks. Brought chicken drumsticks from them last Sunday 04/02/2023 and today the Wednesday it has a foul smell. Wow. Sadly, so disappointing. Hubby drives past this place to/from work, we finally decided to give it a try. We were really hoping to find a good nearby Persian place. Upon entering, we were barely acknowledged by a grumpy employee. We ordered our food, sat ourselves down, waited longer than we should have, considering we were the only ones there. Beef Koobideh was super dry. Ghormeh Sabzi was bland. The rice was good. Mast o' Musir was the best thing we had. Restaurant prices were good; the market has lots of great items, though most prices were unmarked. I would shop the market if I ever really needed any of their specialty items. read more

The items on the shelves do not have price tags or labels; when they do, they are triple as much as other Middle Eastern stores in the area. When I complained about it to the cashier woman, she blamed it on the fluctuating prices and the uncertain economy these days instead of taking responsibility. The place is filthy and unsanitary. There is a thick layer of dust on almost every product, especially the canned goods and items in the jars. The food is just mediocre. You can find better kebobs somewhere else. Beware. This market seems to have a bit of shady pricing. Went in today to buy stuff to make Dolma and it appears they accidentally charged me double what I asked for and received in the meat department. Not the first time I feel they overcharged me. But definitely the first time I took the time to research. I ordered 3 lbs of ground lamb and they gave me three lbs of ground lamb. However charged me over 6lbs. I didn't even pay attention until I got home and then realized I paid 45 dollars for Hround lamb. I weighed at home and 4lbs on the spot. When calling and returning to the store they gave me such grief on the mistake as if I was the shady one. Then proceeded to tell me that their ground lamb is 12 dollars a lbs. if that is really the case they are so over priced. And to confirm they are shady I called a few days later and was quoted 7.99 lb. be warned. Shady The above review was in my draft box from a previous visit. Went back today and ordered online to have ready. Have them plenty of time to have order ready. Arrived to find they didn't even start my order and a total circus amongst the employees.
