    They make Turkish coffee!

4.25 stars * a local business with mom&pop vibes * casual grill restaurant with open kitchen * great alternative to chain restaurants * simple, hearty food with international flavors * quality ingredients especially the meats (had a great ribeye that would not be out of place in a steakhouse) * had multiple TVs, perfect for watching the World Cup Shouldn't have been but was very pleasantly surprised how good my steak turned out. It is a meat market/restaurant combo so expected excellent quality meats for sale but the cook was also good. Ordered a nicely marbled ribeye to grill. Was a little hesitant that the language barrier would cause a problem but it was a non-issue. Asked for medium rare temp on the meat and substituted the mashed potatoes with more grilled veg. The steak was spot on, juicy and tender. Also smelled heavenly with hints of garlic. Inhaled it like I was starving. They did give me more veg to replace the potatoes but they have to revisit the recipe. The yellow summer squash was sliced thin and became too soft, almost mushy, for me. The green zucchini disintegrated completely. Prefer my veg to be tender crisp. Also, menu said salad was included but got home and realized none was in the bag. Omission could have been because of the current health warning about lettuce. Big chains like Taco Bell have temporarily pulled lettuce from their menus. Another minor suggestion, program an area into the ordering kiosk for special requests like preferred cooking temps on meat or the potato to veg substitution. Otherwise a yummy takeout meal. Will definitely be back, probably to watch the World Cup!

Ah come on man, in what universe is this watery stew called chicken kadhai? And 24 bucks for small haleem with literally no meat and all it tasting like dal. Please dont misled your customers

The Char House opened 3 months ago in the vacant space next to Katy's Korner. Definitely refurbished from scratch with refrigerators & freezers in back selling fresh meats & frozen seafood from their market. Eatery doesn't open till 11. The meat market opens at 10. 8ish tables for dining inside with 2 tables outside. Waited for them to open. Placed order on tablet in front of service counter. Input table #. Got food delivered to table 15 minutes later. Self service water, napkins.. Offerings (India. Mediterranean): ala carte entrees to go, appetizers, entrees, wrap's & sandwiches.. Bites: Goat Kadai plate (18.99) *beef brisket sample comped. Tender pieces meat with bbq. Flavor. Tastes similar to American beef brisket. Hearsay this is their bestseller. -Goat kadai is a popular North India dish slow simmered in a wok with pieces of mutton, garlic, tomatoes, ginger, freshly ground spices, green chilis & coriander. -goat meat very tender, nearly fall the bone. Aroma was intense, gravy was thick, slight smokiness. -charred puffy, crispy naan with butter profile useful in soaking up the gravy. -saved the Chloe (garbanzo beans) & aramotic saffron rice for another meal. 5 stars worthy: great service. Quality: fresh ingredients. Food made to order Quantiy: ample. ++definite repeat. Undecided what to try. May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

    Boneless Butter Chicken Combo

As the name of the restaurant implies, Char House specializes in meat dishes, prepared in many different styles including both Mediterranean and Indian flavors. To start, the Hummus with Shawarma was a chickpea and tahini puree topped with slices of grilled spiced chicken, served with soft pita bread on the side. The grainy hummus was on the salty/oily side--not the best version I've had. I was a much bigger fan of the Butter Chicken Combo, which came with butter chicken, chana masala, rice, and naan. The chana masala was a mildly spiced chickpea curry, and the butter chicken was an intensely-spiced, creamy tomato curry with tender chunks of boneless chicken. Both of these went nicely with the rice and naan, but the highlight for me was the slightly spicy butter chicken, which had a balance of sweet, savory, acidic flavors. Overall, the food here was decent though not outstanding--the kiosk ordering system was fast and efficient, and the service was slow but friendly.

The Char House is a unique concept of combining a halal meat market and a restaurant combining cuisine from India, Burma, Greece, and Turkey among others. You will find proteins such as chicken, brisket, ribeye, tilapia, shrimp, and goat. Of course, no pork. We came here for a casual dinner. Restaurant is order and prepay at the kiosk with self-service water and utensils. A few minutes later your food arrives. Our favorite dish was the butter chicken combo surprisingly. Incredibly soft and juicy chicken and that buttery-tomatoey sauce was divine. The Punjabi Chickpeas side was also excellent - smaller, super crispy chickpeas in an equally rich tomatoey broth. Both the Chicken Malai and Chicken Kebab skewers were good, though the meat was slightly on the dry side and the saffron rice could use a bit more seasoning. Definitely plan to come back to try their other unique offerings, like Turkish meat pies and the brisket, which was praised by many other Yelpers.

    Chicken Chapli kabob

Recently ordered food based on DoorDash offer and the decent reviews, but honestly felt the food was strictly ok for the price! The chicken chapli kabob was atleast good just was breaking a little but the goat haleem was quite disappointing- very oily and hardly could get any taste of the meat - had much better in other places; also naan looked not that fresh.

This place is super new so we went to go check it out. It seems like they're still a little disorganized, but the food was decent and the service was good. There are also a lot of marinated meats you can buy. We tried the Rangooni Burmese Paratha because I was intrigued there was a callout from a chef. I honestly would not get it again, the paratha was too thick and doughy, though the flavor was good. It came in a to-go container which was weird. I think this is where they are still a bit new and disorganized. We also tried the brisket plate, and it was surprisingly delicious. The flavors are Middle Eastern, so when they ask what sauce you want, I would recommend the garlic sauce, not the BBQ sauce since it is not American style. Speaking of sauces, they give way too little sauce in this tiny cup, I would have liked bigger containers of sauce. But I do recommend the garlic sauce, it was delicious. I really liked that there was ice in the water jugs. You also have to bus your own food after you're done. Another random thing I noticed was the paint job on the wall, it had huge streaks in them in a true DIY fashion. Props to them for cutting costs in the paint job though. Overall I would come back and try some other stuff and I recommend trying the food here.

I wanted to try a new restaurant and we chose the Char House for lunch. Walking in, it's so new and clean and spacious for the area. We were greeted by a friendly face, and helped us with accommodations. Altogether, the food was tasty. Our first two dishes arrived immediately. The second two dishes arrived an hour later. The second two dishes were wrong. We ordered the ground chicken skewer but the grilled chicken skewer arrived and because the food was so late, he ate it anyway. I requested for no fries, but there were fries on my plate, so I ate around the fries. The sharwmas were a little too salty. I would try my dish again, but I'll wait for the kitchen to get into their groove.

    Malai chicken
    Sadaf S.

Great restaurant in a really convenient spot! I've been there twice now and got a chance to try a lot of the menu. The brisket sandwich and the malai chicken khati roll are my favorite. The malai chicken with rice is good too but the khati roll combines the onions and chutneys better in my opinion. Butter chicken and channa were okay but those NAAN! They were delicious!!! It's a great spot for large groups and has a casual vibe with self order option on the iPad. It'll be a staple, so glad they keep halal!

    Chicken tikka Kathi roll
    Stephanie C.

Came here for lunch to try out this new spot. We were instantly greeted and seated. You order from a QR code at the table. If you need a physical menu they have those too. I didn't realize this, but they have a whole back section of the restaurant that's essentially a butcher shop selling halal meats. We ordered the chicken shawarma roll, chicken tikka Kathi roll, and the Turkish borek pie. The food did take a little while to come out. The dishes came with fries and side cucumber/tomato. The rolls were really good -- the chicken was very tender. The pie was ok; it was a bit cold in the middle, but the flavors were good. We will definitely be back to try some of their entrees!

    Halal Brisket
    Eastbayking R.

Tried the brisket at The Char House - Meat Market & Grill Restaurant and it was excellent. The meat was tender, juicy, and had a great smoky flavor. Each slice had a nice bark on the outside with slightly charred ends that locked in the juices. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the San Ramon area and craving good brisket.

When I asked the restaurant staff, they mentioned that they are now serving Jain sambar by default instead of the original South Indian sambar, which I believe is now referred to as Ratna Cafe sambar. For me, the main reason to come here was always the dosa with that authentic South Indian sambar. Without it, the experience just does not feel the same anymore. To be fair, the staff did give me the Ratna Cafe sambar when I asked, and that tasted like what I remembered. But I was told this change was a management decision. I am not sure whether this was done for cost reasons or to appeal to a different audience, but as a customer who came here specifically for the traditional dosa and sambar experience, it was a huge disappointment. The dosas are also not cheap, and at that price, I expect to enjoy the full meal. Unfortunately, I do not feel it is worth paying a premium for dosa when the default sambar is not something I enjoy. I have had better sambar at other restaurants, but that is not what I came to Mylapore Express for. I am sad to say this may be my last visit here specifically for dosa and sambar.
