I normally go to the San Leandro location when I am in the area. Normally my first preference in fast food fried chicken. Was craving KK, so decided to DoorDash'd an 8 piece mixed with mashed potato and honey biscuit. It came from the San Ramon location. Was excited when it arrived, but unfortunately it fell short. It was packaged very well though. Chicken 2/5: chicken tasted flavorless. Didn't have the flavor I am used to. Some pieces were overcooked as well. Didn't see as much injected marinade that I am used to seeing. Mashed potato with gravy 3/5: first time ordering this. I the mashed potato and gravy is premixed. Would have been nice to get the gravy on the side to dip the overcooked pieces of chicken. Honey biscuits 4/5: these were still good as I remembered. Was disappointed to see the blueberry ones not available on the DoorDash menu. Overall, I would skip this location. Going to go back to the San Leandro location where my experience is consistently good. read more

Yes, this place is inside a Chevron store. I've had Kristy Krunchy Chicken twice now. It's pretty good. This time, I found a deal that I liked: 8 pieces of chicken for $13.29. I believe the last time I got 4 pieces and a biscuit for $9.99. As soon as I got home, I devoured two pieces. They were crunchy, juicy and a bit spicy. Last time with the 4 pieces, I felt the chicken was a little dry, but perhaps this time it didn't sit out for too long. It made a big difference. They have more than 4 sauces, but I only asked for sweet & sour and barbecue. The sauces were not bad, but they tasted very similar. I hope it wasn't due to the high fructose corn syrup, but oh well. I love the fried chicken here. When I brought this to a pot luck everyone loved it. They never heard of Krispy Krunchy before. They were surprised it was at a gas station. They always have good service. If you order 24 pieces or more you should order it ahead of time otherwise you'll be waiting a long time. You have to come in and pay for it first. read more

Might be faint praise to say it's the best fried chicken from a gas station but it's an easy joke but it is solid fried chicken - moist inside and crunchy on the outside ... and for fried chicken these days, reasonably priced. I went at an off hour but everything was fresh and hot and the family deals were a good value for the food. The biscuits are different ... not normal southern type biscuits, more like corn bread muffin biscuits but acceptable. read more

If you've never heard of Krispy Krunchy Chicken, picture a KFC but it's common inside gas stations. It's originally from Louisiana and actually the first time I ever had KKC was inside an Asian grocery store in San Diego haha. I randomly stumbled upon it a few years ago when I was grocery shopping and wanted a quick meal. The KKC at that San Diego store had a huge bottle of the most delicious honey mustard, I'm not sure if the owner of that location made it from scratch since it looked homemade and was in an unmarked bottle, but that sauce kept me coming back. I made a point to visit this Krispy Krunchy Chicken inside the Chevron gas station in hopes of getting some of that honey mustard again. I got the 3-piece drumstick combo which comes with a biscuit. The honey mustard was pretty good and a close match to the San Diego sauce but at this point I'm convinced the SD location makes their sauce in-house since it was a tad bit better than the pre-packaged dips here. Nonetheless, Krispy Krunchy Chicken is good quality for a gas station and I'd honestly pick it over KFC or Popeye's tbh. I did notice they had pre-made chicken sandwiches out in a warmer. I happen to be perusing my food pictures and realized I never wrote my review for Krispy Krunchy Chicken. I had read about KKC and had been meaning to try it. They opened the one up in the San Ramon Chevron so I stopped in for a snack. I wasn't sure what to expect but it surprised me. The kid behind the counter threw me off. Never go with first impressions. He seemed like a really street wise kid with street lingo. I chatted with him about the chicken and he was really chill. I told him I would write a review and post his picture too. Nice guy, friendly. I ordered a two piece dark chicken with a blueberry biscuit. The chicken is smaller than other fried chicken restaurants but it had a nice crunch, flavor and was tender. The biscuit was moist and good flavor too. After seeing the pictures, I plan to swing by this weekend and see if the chicken is still good. For a light snack swing by Krispy Krunchy Chicken or if you are hungry, stop by and get a larger meal. Boy, I guess I don't get it. Everyone that works there is really nice. It's the quality and taste of the chicken that gets me. Growing up, I worked in a college food cafe. Every night, we used this giant vacuum to suck up the oil from the deep fryer and clean the fryer. If you reused the oil too many times, it would give everything this strange aftertaste. Always check the price. Picture says family meal is $34.99 plus tax. The cashier lady keeps saying since the honey biscuits are not included, it will be $38.99 plus tax. False advertisement. Second time. This has happened before. The cashier does not honor the prices advertised. Be very careful. *****Customer Experience During the COVID-19 Pandemic***** Gas station fried chicken is spreading like wildfire in the Bay Area. Another Krispy Krunchy Chicken (KKC) has popped up, this time in San Ramon. To be precise, this new KKC is located inside the ExtraMile Convenience Store at the corner of Bollinger Road and San Ramon Valley Blvd. It opened about three weeks ago. I got wind of this project from my Yelp friend E. G. months ago (thanks!). Interestingly, this chicken shack is actually owned by the Chevron Corporation in a first of its kind business venture. I came here on 12/03/2020. The store wasn't too busy when I walked in at around 5:15 pm. A few workers were chatting at the chicken counter. The interior was spacious and clean. Markers were all over the floor reminding patrons to social distance. A plexiglass shield was installed at the counter as a droplet barrier. The menu was identical to other KKCs that I've been to. I went with my usual - a 12-piece tender meal ($19.99) and a 16-piece dark meat box ($17.99). I was informed by the staff that they didn't have enough dark pieces for my order. Oddly, they didn't offer to cook up a fresh batch to fill my order. Since I didn't want chicken that's been sitting under the heat lamp for a long time, I told them I would wait for a new batch to be cooked. They obliged. One of the staff assembled the 12-piece tender meal for me. He packed the blueberry biscuits in the same box as the tenders. I don't know about you, but I hate mixing sweet and savory items together. Since there was no point of sale at the chicken counter, payment was done at the checkout counter off to the right side. It was kind of inconvenient. I placed the food in my car and then came back inside to wait for the dark meat box. While waiting, one of the convenience store workers kept loitering in the chicken area. The man who was cooking my chicken was clearly upset by his presence. I overheard him telling another worker, "no more free food for him". I was not happy since that little exchange caused a delay on me getting my food. I finally got my dark meat box at around 5:55 pm. The cook was nice enough to throw in a couple extra pieces for my wait. The dark meat pieces were great - hot, crunchy, and tasty. However, the same cannot be said for the rest of the food. The tenders and biscuits were dry and cold. I had to reheat them in the oven. The fries were not as bad, but I have had better. Overall, they have some operation kinks to work out. We were excited to discover a KKC closer to home. We usually go to the Hayward location. No convenient online ordering, not sure if they are planning to get it. So we just stopped in on our way into town. No line, and the inside was clean and spacious. Good with current restrictions going on. I ordered a family meal with mixed biscuits and a side of shrimp. There wasn't enough shrimp for my order, so the guy was kind enough to make me a fresh batch. While we waited for the shrimp. I was able to take the box of chicken that they had all of the itemized stickers for payment to the front cashier and pay. Chicken and shrimp were crisp and juicy. Nice Cajun flavor. Wow! I wasn't expecting gas station fried chicken to be good but DAMN!!! This is where I'm going instead of KFC or Popeyes! Their chicken is Krispy! Their chicken is Krunchy! Great flavor and cooked fresh! It's Cajun spiced but it's not spicy. The chicken is not greasy and what I really liked is that I didn't feel sick from eating "fast food." Usually if I eat KFC or Popeyes, I totally regret it afterwards. No regrets here! They had other things on the menu like chicken tenders and hot wings and seafood and and different sides. The food is good! The prices are stupid, 10 wings $17 bucks!? Simple wings??? That's way to much. There meal combos are also poorly set up. I don't know the background of who owns this, but it is halal, and they are ripping people off!!!! Just because it's halal meat it's over priced!!! Ridiculous!!! I was excited when the Extra Mile Chevron station opened a Krispy Krunchy Chicken outlet in San Ramon. It's located on the corner of San Ramon Valley Blvd. and the on ramp of the 680 freeway. I have tried Krispy Krunchy Chicken in San Leandro and the chicken was excellent. It was 6 pm on a weekday and I ordered the (4) piece and biscuit, and chicken tenders 4 stars, a nice Krispy batter on chicken tenders. The biscuit was dry and hard. Along with the tenders, I ordered the (8) piece legs and thighs. 2 stars over cooked leaving the outer batter dark and hard. See pics. Hopefully, this is just due to being newly opened. I called a couple of weeks before at 6:30 pm and the woman that answered said they only had Chicken Tenders left. Hopefully, this is just being new. I'll give them another chance later. read more

I'm on the fence with this one. Krispy Krunchy Chicken delivers on their promise. The skin of their chicken is very crispy and crunchy, even after a 10-minute ride home. The meat is super juicy, even the white meat. The price is on par with the big chicken chains. The guy behind the counter was very nice and explained all the options on my first visit. Location is very accessible, next to the Bollinger Canyon 680S entrance, by the park&ride lot. It is in the convenience store of the Chevron station and across the parking lot from Clementine's. The chicken is addictingly good. So why the final rating of 3.5 stars? The chicken is very well seasoned. And that's the problem, the main seasoning in their chicken is salt. It was: "do you want some chicken with your salt?" salty. So much salt, I could feel my blood pressure rise with the first bite. I had to chug glass after glass of water to recover from my meal. The chicken is tasty and I finished my food (minus the skin) but I can't go back. However, if blood pressure isn't an issue, I would be there all the time. read more

I opened the fried chicken (dark meat), I think dark meat is the way to go. They were making up a fresh batch and asked if I wanted to wait, and I agreed to wait. When I arrived home, chicken was hot and delicious and crispy. Fried chicken in general is pretty salty so I was a little thirsty but I think it was definitely crispy and not dry. Although I have grown to like the flavor of KFC, KFC chicken is almost always too dry for me. I like that the chicken here was pretty moist and crispy. This is the third time we have been here since they opened. When we got there, there were quite a few orders ahead of us and they were big orders. If you come in later in the day, you might have to wait for the dark meat to be ready. Seems like they always have white meat and tenders available. Tried this location for the first time this past weekend. I've had it once before in Fresno and thought it was pretty good but not better than Popeyes. I brought my kids here to try it. I got lucky as the young man there was sooo nice and helpful. I wanted a 12 pc to go. He asked if I could wait as he has some fresh one's cooking up so I said "you bet". And it took all of an extra 10 minutes and it was worth the wait! Darn that chicken was good - better than the 2 well known chains here and the price is better IMHO 14.99/12 pcs. But yes, it was freaking hot so be careful as it made it home temperature hot; not spicey! He asked me also what type I wanted so I asked for the legs and thighs which I recommend. We have had chicken from Krispy Krunchy other locations which made us excited to see this open in San Ramon. Read previous reviewers comments and thought it might be worth a try as they are very new. 12/08 about 6 pm, no other customers. Ordered 12 piece mixed dark (legs and thighs) along with 3 regular and 3 blueberry muffins. My wife's first piece was not crunchy, then I heard loud crunching from my son's direction. So seemed like just that first thigh was not crunchy. The spice level seemed lighter than the other locations we had eaten at. Also the honey butter muffins are usually glistening from the honey but these were not. Ended up adding our own honey to make up for it. Saving the blueberry muffins for later snack. The blueberry aroma was nice and strong. Overall it was just acceptable but not up to Krispy Krunchy standards. We will wait a couple of weeks then give them 1 more try. Service was acceptable but it seemed obvious they were new at this. Hopefully they can improve. Suggestions- Spice up the chicken and don't skimp on the honey on the muffins. read more

I was so excited to see KKC near us. I was looking forward to that first bite of salty and well seasoned skin and meat. Sadly it didn't happen. The chicken wasn't super hot to begin with and it was lukewarm by the time I got home less than 10 minutes later. The chicken had some crispy parts but not as much as I had hoped. But I powered through because I kept telling myself it's growing pains and I won't have to go to Hayward anymore...finally I get to the end and I'm not just pumped but I'm freaking ecstatic about the blueberry muffin...I'm trying to lose weight so that sweet and fluffy muffin was my dessert....well it delivered in a totally different way. It was CRUNCHIER than the chicken! It was basically a blueberry cookie topped with honey butter...I'm not hating on that but it's not was I expecting because it's usually more cake like. It's $6.50 for a 3 piece and a biscuit. 80% of the time it comes out right. I got burned a couple times. For the price and the somewhat consistent quality I can't complain. Their competitors have gotten out of hand with the pricing, To be honest this place is just as good if not better. This is supposed to be cheap unhealthy peasant food, Feed the family with a bucket for $10. Now even adjusted for inflation to feed the whole family it's $60 at some of these fried chicken franchises. This place still has realistic prices for what they're serving. read more
