    Clam chowder

This place is ok. The guy at the counter was friendly. Not over friendly. They have a menu with a lot of selections. Open space with about 10 tables. A real nautical ambiance. I got the deep fried prawns and 1 piece fired cod. Wife got the same prawns and 2 piece Halibut. The Halibut was bigger than the cod. Decent flavor. The chowder was a bit cold. The Crab Louie wasn't good at all except the crab. I won't be back.

We had just picked up Princess (not her name, just how she acts) from the kennel and we wanted some lunch. We needed a place that had some shaded outdoor seating and Cook's came to mind. We found parking in front and crossed over to the restaurant. Princess and I sat at an outside table away from other guests while my wife went in to place our order. She said that service was friendly and the dining room clean. After paying, she came back out with a tabletop order number and two cups of water. After a few minutes, our food was served to us. Clam Chowder - 4 - Great clam flavor, nicely balanced. Came with Oyster Crackers and a slice of Bread. Bay Shrimp and Dungeness Crab Louie - 5 - Lettuce, Spinach, Shredded Carrots, Grape Tomatoes, Boiled Egg. A decent salad for the price. Haddock and 4 Prawns - 2 - We spent a week in London in 2023 and had the best Fish & Chips ever. This Haddock was very dense, the way I would expect Cod to be. The breading was okay but really needed the Tartar Sauce for flavor. Hard pass on the Prawns. The breading was much too thick and the Prawns much too petite. I much prefer a lighter batter that is made with sparkling water or beer to make it airier. I asked to substitute the Chips with Cole Slaw and that was very tasty. I don't know if my wife remembered to ask, but I was disappointed that they did not have a Seafood Sampler on the menu. I was hoping for a combo of Fish, Prawns, Oysters and Sea Scallops, either deep fried, broiled or sauteed. When we're in the area again, maybe I'll try the Cod and some Onion Rings. I know my wife will get the Chowder and Louie again.

    Lotsa outside seating.

Cook's Seafood finally opened in a burger place that closed 7ish years ago. Spacious new digs with ample seating inside & out. Greeted after entering. Ordered at counter. Pd. Food came within 10 minutes. Offerings (seafood): fish & chips, combos, specials, prawns, seafood entrees, sandwiches, salads, clam chowder, cioppino, sides, tacos, alcohol. Bites: halibut/cod combo (19.99) potato salad. -sub potato salad for fries. Meh large cold potato pieces with mayo & relish ambiance. Day old? -fish fillets looked the size of a McDonald apple pie. Both had thin batter thus crunchy. -halibut fillet was dryish, dense. Not flavorful. -cod fillet was flaky, moist, flavorful. Tartar sauce mostly one dimensional-mayo. didn't add much.. *fresh seafood sold at a refrigerated counter at market prices... 4.5 stars semi-worthy:ymmv. Quality: good Quantity: reasonable. Would skip halibut. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating.

I can't believe I've never tried Cook's before. I've been driving by on the way to and from the freeway and never thought to stop. What a mistake! This place is great! Bright, clean, and open inside. Plenty of people around to help you, we were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in the door Having never been, it took us a while to digest the menu, so many great sounding choices. We ultimately chose the grilled halibut and chips, the medium clam chowder, a bartered fish taco and a Pacifico draft. The chowder and taco were definitely the standouts for new. I thought the halibut and chips tasted kind of plain but I'm she tut could season them up to your liking. Our serve was definitely on top of things, always swinging by to check of us, loved that Will definitely return to try other options, the lobster roll, Mexican still prawn cocktail, crab, so many things to try...

A fast casual seafood restaurant in Pleasanton. I was looking forward to trying their fish and chips and fish tacos. Both were delicious! I liked the crispy batter on my fried cod, and my fries were really well fried. Super crispy and perfect for my taste. The grilled fish taco I had was also excellent, with lime, pickled onions, slaw and other toppings. Lots of space inside, order at the counter and servers will bring out the food once it's ready. Servers were helpful and friendly with requests. Lots of parking, and close to the freeway

I've been waiting years for Cook's Seafood to finally open their Pleasanton location after seeing their sign go up 5+ years ago. Being in the South Bay, it's easier to get to this new Pleasanton location right off 680 than their original Menlo Park spot, which is equally as good. Cook's is one of my favorite places for fish n chips! Dined here about half a dozen times since they opened earlier this year. Every visit has been consistently great. I've ordered their 1 piece cod / 1 piece halibut combo once but my usual is their 3 piece cod fish n chips. The halibut is much meatier than their cod. Cook's is so generous with their portion sizes. The fish pieces are huge! The batter is light, crispy, and not heavy like other places where you can barely see the fish. I'm a huge tartar sauce fan so I always ask for extra with a few packets of malt vinegar. The steak fries are made to order and served fresh and hot. The service here is friendly and welcoming. Tables and chairs are clean and wiped down frequently. Thanks to the large windows on two sides, the restaurant is flooded with natural light, creating a bright and open atmosphere. Located across the street from the Alameda County Fairgrounds, there's plenty of parking here.

Cook's is a family staple whenever we crave some reasonably priced and fresh seafood! Pretty casual ambiance indoors with decent parking. We've dined in and taken out, and it's always consistent. RECS: + 4 pcs prawn/1 pc cod and chips combo ($15.75) is my favorite thing to get here! Plump prawns and soft cod, and their fries are tasty + Crab louie salad ($12.99 S/$25.99 L) has some of the freshest crab pieces. The salad itself is nothing special otherwise + Lobster roll ($29.99) PASS: + Crab sandwich ($21.99) is too mayo-y

I used to work walking distance from cooks seafood and I think we waited for about three years for this place to open. And when it finally did, I changed jobs. But I still had to make the trip to come try it because I waited so long. So I dragged one of my ex coworkers who also waited as long as I did. I love love love cioppino so I had to get that. I got the 12 oz one and I thought it wouldn't be that filling but it was. There is a generous amount of seafood, but for me I thought there was too much fish compared to the other seafood. But for the price, it's a great deal. The real star was this cheesy crab bread. Price was steeper because of the crab but the crab was generous and it was so delicious. The only sad part was when I took home the leftovers and had to share it with my family. We came during a weekend lunch and it was pretty empty. You go to the counter, order and pay and they bring the food out to you. They were super friendly and service was great. They genuinely wanted to know what we thought of the food, because they had just opened and I get the sense that business was a little slower than they expected it to be. There's also a little counter on the side where you can buy seafood. I don't know about the quality but the prices looked steep. If you haven't tried it yet, get going! I definitely recommend this place.

So I know the community has been waiting so long for Cook's to finally open. The time has come and since I was craving fish and chips, I needed to try the long awaited Cook's seafood. Upon walking in we were greeted with their specials. Honestly every special sounded good but I knew what I was there for. I actually ordered the combo fish n chips which came with one piece of cod and 4 prawns. You can also pick halibut too and different potion sizes. Anyway, on to the food. I absolutely loved the cod! Fresh and fried to perfection. The prawns on the other hand lost me with the thick batter. One of the cooks came around and gave samples of their crab cake which I thought was nice. It was yummy too. I probably should have gone with that or just a fish plate. Did I mention the fries? Yeah so those were not good because they were not cooked inside. Usually steak fries are supposed to be fluffy inside. They were not. Almost like not cooked. The outside of them were crispy though. If I had to come back, it would be just for the cod alone and maybe try their other sides. I would also order their crab cakes.

Surprised to see a Cook's Seafood open in this part of the bay as I've visited their flagship location in Menlo Park. My visit took place on a Sunday evening and the place was rather empty. All the staff I encountered were genuinely friendly and helpful. One even mentioned that this location opened within the past 4-5 months. The space has been kept well and pristine, definitely very welcoming, including the restrooms. However, the quality of the food was just ok. I wasn't too hungry so I opted for the 8oz cioppino. Sugar must've been added in the soup because it was sweet, which I don't prefer. I also had a few bites of the fish & chips. The fish tasted old and stale, as if it were left out all day under the heat lamp (I don't want to make assumptions if that's the case). Ample parking as this plaza is mostly food-centered. Perhaps during the weekdays, the food quality is better since there are probably a lot of people from the nearby office building ordering lunch. #28/2025

We loaded up on fried everything. My wife and I were out in Pleasanton and wanted to try Cook's Seafood. I ordered Fish (Cod) and Chips with onion rings and added fried shrimp as a snack to go. My wife went with the fried oysters and onion rings. Everything was fried nicely to a golden brown color with a good crunch. The cod was more dense than I expected but it was fresh (did not taste fishy), onion rings with ranch were excellent and the shrimp was firm. My wife said the oysters were good and loved the onion rings. The restaurant is spacious, wide variety to choose from and the young lady taking the orders was very nice. Besides the cooked food area, they also have a fish market counter.

After waiting a half a decade for Cooks to open in Pleasanton. Located at the entrance of the Alameda fairgrounds on Bernal, the restaurant space is large open and airy. The menu board is and order at the counter is like fast food. They do have printed paper menu if you ask. We wanted to try different items so we ordered the following: Fish and chips 5 stars cod and halibut combo Large cuts of fish not over battered. The fries were thick cut and came out piping hot. Best item. Cioppino 5 stars lots of shellfish and fish in a tomato broth came with crackers and a slice of toast. Very good . The food goes down hill from here. Clam Chowder bread bowl 3 stars bread bowl was not hollowed out so thick bread soaked with a salty chowder Fish tacos 2 stars both grilled and battered. The fish was good the taco was over simplistic Pickled onions and tomato Could have used some good salsa, lettuce, tomatillo sauce. Crab Louie salad 1 star a very simple salad with a tiny amount of crab Thousand Island dressing on the side. Go for the fish and chips or Cioppino. Limited service plenty of parking.

    Yay Pleasanton location finally open!!!

Woo hoooo! Cook's Seafood - Pleasanton location is finally open! Long-time customer of their Menlo Park location and so happy they finally opened a 2nd one closer to me. Offering fish n chips, New England Clam Chowder, cioppino, crab, shrimp, salmon louies (salads) and other grilled and fried goodies you won't be disappointed. They do a great British-style fish and chip - light batter, perfectly cooked flaky cod and delicious thick-cut potatoes. Crisp exterior and creamy interior... done right! :: Cioppino is one of my faves...this first visit was the perfect bowl of seafood and rich, flavorful tomato-based broth. Menlo Park can get a bit salty but overall a delicious option along with their New England clam chowder. Items came out quick and hot! :: Dungeness Crab Louie is full of crab meat, iceberg lettuce, spinach, grape tomatoes, shredded carrots, halved egg with Thousand Island dressing. Service friendly and welcoming! Order at the counter: Matthew helped me today but all staff have been trained properly with great customer service. Self service (water, take out containers) station and staff available but bus your own tables. Small seafood counter (Menlo Park has a larger selection) and Acme sourdough bread available Plenty of lot parking with other restaurants including Sultan Kebab and Mexico Lindo. Plenty of indoor and outdoor dining.

The outside layer was soooo crispy and thin, it melted in my mouth. No scraping at all. I saw the cod version, and that one was thickkkkk. It made my catfish portion look tiny. No regrets about my choice, but I'll definitely be back to try the others. Service was also pretty good. It's located on the borderline of Walnut Creek and Alamo-ish areas, and certainly not in an area most people would be driving by unless you live in this area since it's mostly residential here, or you're driving through Olympic locally for something in that direction that's not the downtown. First things first, it's a small place. It's a local market, so it's not going to be very large. They do have their own parking lot in the front, and there's also plenty of parking in the back as well, so that shouldn't be an issue here even though the store is small. While I've seen some people note this as a Japanese market, it is not. While they carry a small section of Japanese stuff, here, most of the things are very much a Chinese focused type of offerings, from the types of produce, to the packaged stuff here. They'll have some miscellaneous stuff like a section just for pastas and sauces in the right side of the store on a rack, they're mostly a Chinese market. If you need a comparison, they're like a mini 99 Ranch. Price wise, it's about right for this area. If you compare it to other grocery market chains it's definitely not comparable, but for a local market in this area, it's not bad. The fish is indeed on the more expensive side, but it does look pretty fresh at least so there's that. They also have some to-go sushi boxes of stuff. It's nice to see they have a variety of offerings from their sushi to-go options, albeit, not cheap but at least they did look pretty good though. The sashimi boxes looked great because the fish quality appears to be great here. The only thing again, it is a bit pricey for some of these options, so just be aware of that. Green Fish is a nice little market for this area, and certainly will have a variety of things here you may be interested in. Again, it's not a large market, so just be aware of space if they do get busy. The fish counter is literally wedged into the corner of the store, but still offers fresh seafood options for those locally to buy from (albeit a bit pricey). They have offerings of various things akin to 99 Ranch, but certainly more focused on mostly Chinese and Japanese as oppose to Ranch that offers a lot of different Asian brands too. While they have pastas and sauces and stuff, that's basically it for the non-Asian market stuff. This is very much an Asian market. I will definitely want to try out some of those takeout rolls and maybe their sashimi eventually.
