Having arrived around 6:30pm, they often run out of brown sugar boba, so I had to opt for a strawberry one. I am a fan of Mr Sun Tea in other locations, so I was excited to try this Pleasanton location. Like the other Mr Sun Teas, there is a vast menu with plentiful flavors and specials. However, I selected a traditional flavor of Jasmine milk tea with brown sugar boba. Mr Sun Tea's forte is their handcrafted pearls. I typically skip on toppings, but I made an exception for this day because I enjoy Mr Sun Tea's pearls. However, I was a bit let down for the brown sugar boba at this location - it was extremely sweet for my liking and sweetened my entire drink to the point where I strained the pearls and just drank the tea by itself when I came home. Maybe I just had the pearls on a day where they were not cooked as well, but I wished I had skipped on the pearls. Afterward, my drink was decent. I tasted more jasmine after I strained the pearls - it just had hints of brown sugar. My milk tea could have been a bit creamier, but it was not bad. Overall, the boba was okay. This place is so unique! I had never been to a place that offers this many variety of flavored boba. I can't believe I only just found out about Mr. Sun. This is located in downtown Pleasanton, which is such a cute spot to just walk around and hang out. The inside is on the smaller side, but there are some tables and chairs. There's an ordering kiosk to the right of the store after you enter. I ordered the Uji Matcha Tea Latte w/ strawberry boba at 0% sugar. I never do 0% sugar, but I'm try to reduce my sugar intake and I thought the strawberry boba would provide some sweetness. Indeed, it did. If I had the drink alone, I would get at least 25% sugar. Did you know that Mr Sun Tea does catering? Well now you do! I was very impressed with how their catering process was from the time I initially inquired all the way up to the day of pickup. I requested for the milk tea and passionfruit tea flavors (50% sweetness) and for toppings, I ordered the brown sugar boba, coconut jelly, and crystal ball (agar no flavor but chewy). On the day of the pickup, Eileen provided me a wagon with all of the boba and supplies (cups, lids, straws, signage, ice in a cooler). She was even more generous and gave me and my friend a summer drink special they were having - mango and passionfruit. Thank you for making my baby shower a hit with my friends. This Mr. Sun location is in downtown Pleasanton. Parking is mainly street parking, or if you are lucky, then you will find a spot in one of the parking lots in the area. I ordered through the kiosk inside and my drink was ready within 5 minutes or so. I honestly thought it would had been longer because they had a lot of probably online orders because I saw one of the employees working on a bunch of drinks, but another employee came out from the back to make my drink, which I appreciated. I have been to 4 of their other locations and honestly, I was not a fan of their drinks or the texture of their boba. I only stopped by here for boba because I was picking up dinner nearby, so I did not have any high expectations. I ordered their Jasmine Green Tea Latte with brown sugar boba and grass jelly, at 75% sugar and 50% ice. I enjoyed my drink for the most part, as it was creamy with a subtle tea taste to it, but it was on the sweeter side, so 50% sugar would probably had been better. I've been to their location in Mountain View a long time ago, but I didn't remember how good their drinks were until my first visit here. The space is small yet well decorated, there's a couple of barstools for seating and a bench over by the window. I'd say it's most ideal for a grab and go. There's one self service kiosk you can order from, ooor you can go directly to the cashier! The employees were super friendly the entire time we were there. I got the Mr Sun Special with strawberry boba and it was one of the absolute BEEEST drinks I've had in a while! The strawberry syrup at the bottom tasted super refreshing and the drink itself was icey and sort of resembled a frosty. For the boba, I was expecting popping boba for whatever reason (even though popping boba in a drink isn't all too common), but to my surprise it was literal boba... that tasted like strawberries. It was super addicting and absolutely blew my mind lol. I couldn't stop drinking it! We got the mango version too and it was equally as impressive. Pro tip: they have student discounts every Tuesday, if you're a student bring your ID card to get 10% off! They make their boba fresh in store, so it's not perfectly spherical like at other places that use pre-made boba. I ordered the Mr. Sun Mango with mango boba. It was a creamy slush drink with mango purée at the bottom, and came with mango-flavored boba at no extra cost. One thing I'd like to mention is that the sweetness option is based on additional sugar added, unlike at other boba shops. Because of that, the recommended sugar level for most drinks is around 25% instead of 100%. This isn't mentioned if you order at the kiosk, but if you order with the cashiers then they'll explain it to you. The inside is very cozy with lots of seating. Ooo boba has arrived in downtown Pleasanton!!! On Main Street no less. It's right across from Lokanta Grill and around the corner from Meadowlark. Today was the first day of their soft opening running until 6/22 before their grand opening 6/23-6/25! Mango Boba Milk Tea ($6): Remember when boba was $3.25 lol? Anyway. I don't think there were real mango bits in it, so just the flavoring. The pearls were the right squishy and 50% sugar was actually 50% sugar, so no complaints here. Tea Olive Oolong Tea Latte ($5.75): The Tea Olive is Osmanthus! I actually quite liked this, I would get it again...at 50% sugar :) I can taste the tea flavors. My friend ordered the Cheese Milk Foam with Oolong Tea and said the cheese tasted funny/interesting :P The woman taking my order was super nice and took the time to patiently answer questions despite the endless line. I didn't know what I was missing out on with boba until I came to Mr Sun for the first time! Glad I got to try this place out because of their BOGO grand opening special. First thing that caught my attention was the man rolling out a huge slab of tapioca dough and running it through the boba machine! Although the fresh boba is a perk, it's difficult to justify being a regular especially because the topping prices went from 75 cents to a $1, yet the quality of the product has gone down. My family and I have regularly frequented this boba shop and it has struggled with inconsistency. For example, we usually get the crystal blueberry duke and it has either been outrageously sweet or has no sugar at all despite us choosing the same sugar level each time. I think this last visit is the one that broke the camels back. I ordered the strawberry milk with strawberry boba. I attached a picture of my drink (no option for ice) in comparison with another drink ordered (no ice). In my opinion this is a ridiculous amount of headspace in the drink.
