Banh mi dac biet - bread was crunch and fresh, pickled daikon and carrots were larger and not too sour or sweet, good meat portion, sandwich was moist with the mayo and pate! Banana pudding matcha - not too sweet, fresh bananas on the bottom, creamy top and earthy matcha! Kid friendly spot with a fuse ball machine, games and even a Tesla motorbike! Peanuts in the banh mi.....? Good thing I don't have a peanut allergy. :X There were only a couple of peanuts, so my hunch is that maybe scooping utensils are being shared for different condiments in the kitchen and the peanuts accidentally slipped into the sandwich. Either way, there are zero ingredient descriptions of the banh mi in the menu displays here so no warning about the peanuts if the addition is intentional. The banh mi itself was just okay. Decent baguette crunch. I got the grilled pork version and the pork was tasty though a little tough. There was something overly gritty in some parts of the sandwich and it might have been pate not being spread smoothly and evenly. Little to no pickle taste in the daikon and carrots. Also got a matcha bubble waffle. Bitter burnt on the edges. Green passionfruit tea was pretty standard and it hit the spot on a warm day. I didn't realize Happy Lemon became Jade's Teacup Cafe for a while until I came across them on Instagram (and noticed it was were Happy Lemon was). The cute bunny definitely was a factor in my giving this place a try as well as the food, I can't pass up a good spot for Vietnamese sandwiches or spring rolls! During a Friday afternoon, there wasn't much of a rush. The owner's husband was helping out as it seemed it was only her running around the back making everything, reasonable for there to be a little of a wait. She was definitely a bit stressed, so I'm glad that a staff member showed up after a bit to help her out (seems they were new too as they didn't seem too familiar with where items were). They advertised Mango Coconut sago so I had to give that a try. As much as I wanted a Vietnamese sandwich, the spring roll was calling me from the menu - so I ordered a shrimp one. After a bit of a wait, I got my drink and food. Solid service, I hope things will run smoother for them later. Mango Coconut sago: It was more watery that I expected, more coconut than mango. The sago was clumpy and flavorless, actually left a weird aftertaste in my mouth. I'd say this is more a coconut drink with mango flavor added? Can skip the sago next time. Spring rolls: The peanut sauce was delicious, good balance with the hoisin. Rolls were wrapped beautifully and tightly. I did eat my roll about 10mins later since I wanted to get home first. The rice paper stuck to the paper container and some came up with my roll, had to rip that part out. Maybe parchment paper lining the container would help or saran wrapping the spring rolls so they won't stick to the container or each other. Final Thoughts: Maybe I'd try a fruit drink or tea next time, but no more mango coconut sago for me. I do want to give the sandwiches a try though! read more

I can tell these spring rolls are made with love. i like the cucumber in it too. The peanut sauce is yummy and i like that it's actually enough for all three rolls. I was craving a banh mi while at work when my co-worker said there was one at the old happy lemon off Santa Rita. I decided to come on my day off with my daughter to check it out as we were in the area. First impression was clean and cute. And a pleasant surprise to see it is still owned by the same people when it was Happy Lemon. We just moved to the area and decided to check this place out on a Friday night. Everything was delicious! The banana pudding matcha was so addictive, I finished it before I left the restaurant. At 25% it was the perfect sweetness especially when the top banana pudding mixed in. The pork banh mi was superb. It came out warm and toasted. Boba was good! Im always hesitant to try new boba spots because the texture and taste of the actual boba can be hit or miss. But I was pleasantly surprised yesterday that the boba was perfectly chewy and tasted great! I ordered a dirty matcha and it was yummy! You could taste both the matcha and espresso, it was a good combo. I ordered a strawberry smoothie for my daughter and she loved it. I will say that I ordered her smoothie with 25% sweetness and it was decently sweet so anything more than that would have been too much. I also dont like anything super sweet, so thats just my preference. The lady at the counter (Im assuming the owner) was very nice as well. They also had a few games for kids there which is a nice touch. I saw that they had food items, which I'd love to try next time. I just want to start off by saying there are not too many authentic Vietnamese cafe's in east bay, and this one is a true gem! I've been here since the happy lemon days, and was pleased to hear that while this place may have different owners - it is still the same management. What does this mean? Same high quality drinks, but now with more customized offerings for both boba and food! Drinks: For starters, there are not many Sandwich shops that also serve boba, and Jade's Cafe does both well. From Happy Lemon days Mango Matcha is still one of my favorite, but I have also evolved my drink repertoire into adding Grape fruit Green tea, Ube Coffee, and Coconut Chia into the rotation The Ube Coffee is perfect to start my morning (True Ube Fan here), and the Grapefruit, Coconut Chia, and Mango Matcha all have real fruit inside, just right for Summer days, or to have a good pick me up after work Food: Coming from San Jose, I'd say I have high expectations when it comes to Vietnamese food, and was pleasantly surprised that the Vietnamese sandwiches here not only lived up to my expectations, but exceeded them! For a randomly chosen boba spot during our trip to the Bay Area, this place delivered! We came as a large group with a few kids and they were very accommodating to all the drinks, energy, and noise. This used to be Happy Lemon, it still looks somewhat similar inside - not sure if it is the same owners though, but I am pretty sure it is. I was afraid that the drinks might taste the same as the previous boba spot, as I was not a big fan, so I ordered their jasmine milk tea with caution. I ordered the drink with boba - standard sugar and less ice. It did not taste like the previous spot - slightly better, but it also was not exactly my cup of tea either. It was more on the creamier / milky side, so it kind of made me feel a bit sick after, while the boba was a bit melty. read more

Let's do a quick update on this place as I've been here more often since my last review. I've now added this spot for boba in our rotation of places post Tuesday work day. I know I have two boba days a week. Don't judge :P It's not every week. But it's more often than not. It's okay. I'm keeping all these boba shops open. Happy Lemon has now added more seats in their shop since the restrictions have been lifted for COVID so if you're looking for a spot to hang out or just do work, it's actually not a bad place to do so! I've explored the menu now and I would say, I have several go tos. If I want something decadent, definitely get a puff cream drink. I recently discovered their lychee jello topping. Not JELLY. Let's make that clear. It's the jello topping. Since I've had Invisalign, it's harder for me to bite down so I like toppings that are easier to chew and I love a good egg pudding. I like grass jelly, but I can get these toppings at other shops. What I can't get is this lychee jello. So I always treat myself to this jello when I go here. Get it only if you like the taste of lychee, of course. Service is great and usually I'm here at an odd time so I never really wait too long. Very helpful and easy to pay. Just remember to get their app so you can get rewards and don't forget to scan your app. As I said, overall, it's definitely improved since I've come. It's definitely a nice change from other spots. I'm still exploring more of the menu but definitely delish. Definitely come out and try them out! read more

I visited on what turned out to be their 4th day as a newly branded business (formerly Happy Lemon). I was definitely caught off guard with the switch up - they no longer have their Thursday night buy 2 get 1 free and the menu is completely different but the interior is more or less the same. There are now bahn mi options and a much more limited drink menu which for me was a bit of a bummer. The service was good as always (the employees are the same from Happy Lemon) but the drinks I'd say are not quite as good from what I've tried so far. I've been here a few times now and they have been consistently good! I'm a big jasmine milk tea girl, and I think I've found my new go-to spot for it! It's just the right amount of sweetness and has that hint of jasmine that still shines through - I've finally found a place in the area that doesn't make it too milky! The boba has also been consistently good, sweet, and chewy. During my last visit, I tried their pork banh mi and pork spring rolls (both made with nem nuong) and they're all yummy! They both come with a special nem nuong dipping sauce, very reminiscent to Brodard's dipping sauce (huge plus if you're a fan - you don't need to make that trip to SoCal anymore!) The pickled carrots in the sandwiches were very flavorful and the mayonnaise made the sandwiches very savory as well.
