Pros: Food was good, came out hot and fresh. Our waiter was so nice, but we saw he could only cater to one table at a time, multiple tables at once was clearly overwhelming for him. We saw another table waiting to be serviced by him as well. Multiple workers walked by and just eyed each table but never offered help to the poor guy, therefore a few tables grew impatient. Cons: Soon as we walked in we were told it was going to be a 20-30 minute wait, not a problem. We gave them our phone number to alert us when our table was ready, so we found an area at the bar and sat down and waited. 45 minutes passed someone from our party wanted to see how much longer it would be. When asked how much longer, the host said they "didn't have our number to contact us". (Didn't make sense because we gave it to them soon as they asked us to have a seat to wait) They didn't bother to call for us like they were calling other people waiting for a table, they didn't want to walk around to find our party either. When they finally sat us down at a table, we noticed majority of the restaurant was empty (literally only 6-8 tables). Took us about 10 minutes to just get water for everyone (We were a table of 5 btw). Took over 20 minutes to take our order, took almost 30 minutes to get our order. Waited 15 minutes to get to go boxes and the tab. We came in around 7pm left around 9:45ish just to give an estimate of how long we were there for. As someone who had came here several times as they were a kid, to come as an adult for a quick visit to reminisce, it was a disappointment to say the least. I came to Cattlemen's because my hotel had one of their ads and they were close. I wasn't in the mood for steak but I'd make do with something. At 505pm on a weekday, I was seated immediately with no wait and quickly greeted by an affable server (Molly). Throughout my stay she was attentive without being intrusive and the supporting service was efficient in the way good restaurants are. I got my drinks and breadstick right away, got my appetizer with a pause long enough to enjoy every bite and then my main...clearly they know what they're doing here. My order of Brussels sprouts were delicious; firm with some resistance and well seasoned. I ordered a Cesar salad with steak which was cooked to order...a very satisfying and filling meal. I love a restaurant that embodies their ethos! This is a steakhouse and in every way it shows. We came here on friday night after hitting the gym and arrived around 7pm. We specifically wanted to visit for the happy hour specials we've seen. It's mon-fri 4-10pm at the bar area. We honestly were pleasantly surprised at how many people were there. My bf took advantage of the $4 beer special, and I got two of the pendleton sour for $6. He originally wanted the prime rib sandwich for $10 but they were out...so we ended up with the pete's special steak. It felt a lot like prime rib. it also comes with a complimentary drink (beer). We've driven by Cattlemen's in Livermore for 40+ years and have never stopped in. Tonight we went with our son and his fiancé who recently went for the first time and loved it. I have no complaints, not one. We were seated right away. Our server was awesome, very attentive and super friendly. They had many items to choose from on their gluten free menu. I had a medium center cut petite fillet with no seasoning except for salt and pepper and really that's all it needed. It was delicious. The other meals that were ordered were a Steakhouse Caesar salad, the Rustler ribeye and a 10oz Filet. Everybody loved their meal although my husband said he should've got a center cut. Our party arrived a bit earlier than our 7 PM reservation, but we were seated right away. We ordered three appetizers to share: mozzarella sticks, fried onions, and bacon-wrapped shrimp. This place is amazing, randomly came across this restaurant and made reservation about a week before. The day of the reservation we were about 15 minutes late because of traffic, but there was no problem at all. They seated us at a really nice booth very quickly. We ordered the originally steak dinners for two and that was more than plenty of food for 2 people. The whole experience was fantastic. There were unlimited salad, bread, and sides. All the food came in order in a very reasonable pace. The waiter kept checking in with us and making sure we were doing ok. We had the artichoke cheese Dip, Prime rib, half rack pork ribs, and the deep fried apple pie. Nothing fancy, just classic steakhouse dining experience which was exactly what we were looking for. From the presentation of the food to the taste, it was spot on. We weren't even going to finish the desert but it was so good we ended finishing it all anyway. I've been to Cattlemens a half dozen times. There's much to love about Cattlemens generally. It's got unlimited salads, beans and bread along with your meal. It's got enthusiastic, friendly staff, and it provides generous portions of most everything. The problem is that it's a steakhouse, but it doesn't do steak particularly well. I love prime rib a lot, so I ordered it a few times on a few of my visits. But the prime rib tastes like a block of salt. It's hard to taste the steak itself unless you add a ton of horse radish to tone down the salt content. Prime rib can be prepared packed in salt, but it's meant to be removed completely so the steak itself should never taste of salt. I tried other steaks, from rib eyes to filet mignons but it seems to always come a bit cooked past a perfect medium rare, and either the servers do not get to the steak quick enough or the cooks leave the steak out too long so the steak loses a lot of its heat and warmth. For nostalgia reasons alone, I can recommend this restaurant. I love the staff and their helpfulness. However, for a pure steak experience, there are better, so it gets an OK from me. read more

Been going to Cattleman's since I was kid in 1968. Mama and Daddy would bring us on the way home from Tahoe. It's an old school memory for me and my family. I've been to all of them along the way. My experiences haven't always been consistent as an adult. I've given my share of feedback to managers over the years. Tonight I called the manager, Jeff, over because I wanted to give him some feedback. Often times managers hear the bad stuff but not the good experiences. I shared with him that my experience tonight was outstanding. The food was cooked perfectly. I get that not everyone can eat a 16 oz "Cattleman's Cut" prime rib, I'm not one of those. I like it "mooing" so more on the rare side. Many times though the food has been as good. This was just one of those times. What made the experience outstanding was the service. I made a reservation before getting here. Didn't need it because it was only 4:15 when I got here. The place was not as empty as the parking lot looked. That's not the case now almost 2 hours later. It's hopping. The host told me that I could go to the bar if I wanted to be seated immediately....or if I waited 5 minutes I could get a table in the main restaurant. I've done dinner there and enjoyed many Legendary margaritas in the bar when I lived in Livermore for almost 20 years. They were busy enough tonight that the one server who was on shift was running around...but another was going to be on shift soon and they would seat me so that I had a good experience. I'm glad I waited. I got Brittany. From the first interaction I could tell this was gonna be fun. It was. We shared stories about our tattoos...both of us have ink and stories behind them. Then I gave her my order. She was attentive and appropriately timely through the entire meal. I appreciate that very much. She made the experience outstanding. While I don't live in Livermore any longer, I stop at many of the restaurants I enjoy to avoid the Altamont traffic when I have to come through later in the day. Today was one of those. I'm glad I stopped. By the way I could have taken pictures of the food. That would have been too common. We were given the option to either wait or sit in the bar lounge, which wasn't just a bar, it also had tables and chairs, though no booths. A friend and I decided to share the "Dinner for Two," which included an appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert. I thought it was a great deal. We came with a large group and each of us ordered something different. Most of us got steaks while the kids got burgers. We ordered: - Tumbleweed onion - 9oz trim cut - T-bone steak - Half rack Baby back rib pork - Porterhouse - "The Sheriff" - Pete's special All entrees come with unlimited salad and a side. For the salad dressing we could have ordered one of each dressing since we had so many entrees. We had requested one of the steaks to be no salt, but turns out they omitted salt on all steaks...lol not a huge deal since we just added table salt to our steak. other than that, the overall experience was good. Food came out quite slow (we thought appetizer would come sooner but it came with our entree). Service is ok, not the fastest I would say since it took us a while to get our meal and check. Towards the end, it took us so long to get the check that the families with kids left first because we couldn't find our server (your server needs to bring it to you-- seems like the host can't).
