Great location and beautiful restaurant. The host and servers are welcoming and well-trained. I certainly couldn't memorize a menu and specials and explain them so eloquently. It was a nice change to have some fresh veggies as a complimentary starter along with warm bread and whipped butter. Food came out at a good pace. The place was busy but not too loud. Drinks were delicious. Steaks were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Even the garnishes had the best flavors and made me want to eat more vegetables! Such a wonderful experience. Came in on a Monday night for dinner. Before we ordered appetizers, the waiter brought us bread along with a plate of chilled veggie sticks . I thought this was a nice touch! When the waiter came to ask us for appetizers , he went over all the specials with us along with pricing which I also thought was a nice gesture . We started off with the crab cakes which came layered on crispy fry sticks. I call them sticks because they were thin and crunchy. These are by far the best crab cakes I've had in a long time. The aioli along with the fry sticks were such a treat. I ordered the salad special which was a bed of mixed greens, grapes , goat cheese, almonds and raisins in a balsamic dressing. I wish I took a photo because it was a beautiful salad. For my entree I ordered the 6-7 oz filet (I can't recall the oz) which came with green beans and bell pepper. The veggies were okay but the steak was crisped on the outside and flavorful. I get mine fairly cooked and I can tell you it was not dry! Went back and we are so glad we did. Walked in on a Saturday and we were seated right away. We ordered drinks and had some bread. The service this time was so much better and our waitress was great she was attentive and nice. I do have to say there are way too many dinner specials after a few she mentioned you just loose track of what they have maybe it's just me. I got the beet salad with the honey balsamic and it was amazing. I would eat that everyday! I had the filet which was cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese or liquid gold as I call it is always a go to. The asparagus are fine we always change vegetables when we go. Glad we stopped by it was busy but we were able to get a table pretty quick and the service was a lot better than our first time. Had an amazing experience at this gem. My love surprised me by taking me to this spot on my birthday. I love a good steakhouse and he had been here about 20 years ago. Since it is still open this tells me the place must be a popular gem. I loved the fact that when we got there we got front row parking to the entrance right in downtown. When entering we were greeted right away. He had reservations and we were sat right away. Now the place is a nice atmosphere but I felt the tables and chairs needed an upgrade. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. She amazed me how she knew all the specials and prices to their meals and appetizers. I noticed the waiters and waitress stand close by in case you need anything so they are always on alert. The bathrooms are close to the seating area and they have a back room for events so the place is pretty big. Now the food was amazing. We started with the calamari and it was so good. The pieces tasted fresh and were thick pieces of meat. The surf and turf was delicious and the lobster again tasted so good. We matched our food with some delicious wine. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here a couple weeks back and had an amazing time! Staff was very efficient in dealing with such a large group (21 people), taking orders, getting appetizers distributed, accounting for several different allergies/dietary restrictions, and more. They also put us at a large table in the back so it was relatively more private and comfortable. I really appreciate the effort they put into setting up for us! For the food, almost everyone ended up ordering the signature prime rib for the main course, and we split several different appetizers (calamari, cocktail shrimp, scallops which was the special appetizer of the day that was not on the menu, and more that individuals might have ordered). Appetizers were all solid, with the standout definitely being the scallops! So if those are on the menu when you go, I'd definitely recommend ordering it. The signature prime rib was HUGE but at the same time I think finishable by most people. Everyone was pretty shocked and intimidated when the plates were first put down but I think most of us ended up finishing, even with all the appetizers we ate beforehand. The rib itself was so, so soft and tender, with my only complaint perhaps being that the gravy could have had a bit more flavor--but I may just not be used to eating prime rib as I usually order leaner cuts of steak. I'd also recommend getting the prime rib cooked medium instead of medium rare if you typically prefer medium rare for other cuts (but I think this applies to all prime steaks and not just this restauarant). For dessert, we tried the bread pudding (which was seasonally flavored as a pumpkin spice bread pudding) and the chocolate creme brulée. I was a huge fan of the chocolate creme brulée, and found the bread pudding to be solid but not standout. Overall, I am really glad that we chose this restaurant for our rehearsal dinner! Pleasanton is a ways away from me, but if I'm in the area again I'd probably stop by and try some of their other steak! read more

Last night was the first time my wife and I brought our four sons to experience what a true "fancy dinner" feels like, and Hap's absolutely delivered. First and foremost, a massive shoutout to Shelby, our waitress. She was simply incredible. She immediately recognized that our younger boys were a little wide-eyed by the whole experience, and she made the night feel warm, welcoming, and unforgettable. At one point she called our 9-year-old "sir," and his eyes practically popped out of his head. It was such a small thing, but moments like that are what make hospitality special. The food was phenomenal. The prime rib was honestly even better than I remembered -- unbelievably tender, juicy, and flavorful, especially with the au jus. We also got the peppercorn sauce, which was fantastic. The mac and cheese and scalloped potatoes were divine, and even the sautéed spinach was outstanding. My wife and I each had a couple glasses of Cabernet from Paso Robles that paired perfectly with dinner. Between the incredible food, the old-school New York steakhouse ambiance, and that timeless feeling where you walk in and genuinely don't know if it's 1950, 1980, or 2026 (in the best possible way), this already would've been a memorable night. Then our main prime rib sandwich and crispy French fries arrive served spot on. Eric our bartender on Sunday evenings is such a pleasure to have serve us. He is Professional and so Personable. I didn't realize so many people like going to steakhouses right when they open, but even with this early dinner, rush, Monica made us feel ease, with quality customer service, and honestly, I'm a big fan of when people use the term pardon my reach, really big fan of that. I actually went with the specials, so I got the A5 Wagyu and some truffle steak fries, and those are some of the best steak fries I've ever had. We tried Happs for the first time last night, 9/30/26. The place looked nice, but loud, the service was good, but our meat was terrible, which is not what one expects from a steakhouse. I ordered the prime rib, medium rare. What was delivered to me was the worst cut of meat I have ever been served in any restaurant anywhere. There was so much gristle in the large slab that it was almost impossible to cut into and most of it ended up back on my plate after I had chewed it for a while. Truly bad, but that is not all. Among the specials there was a serving of Wagu beef medallions that sounded nice. My wife ordered it medium rare. For about $58 she was served six dollar coin slices, 1/8" thick well done. She sent it back, and it came back substantially the same, one piece showed a tiny touch of pink. The potatoes were good as were the scallops, but the meat was just bad, improperly butchered, and poorly cooked. We let the server know about it and she was kind enough to send us home with free dessert, on a $244 tab. We will not be back. read more

Traditional, elegant dining room but a more impromptu meal is also available at the bar. Have only eaten in the dining room once, prefer sitting at the bar. Come right at 5 pm opening and have a good chance of snagging a seat there. Love the crudite. Kind of ignore it at other restaurants but here they serve the veggies simply chilled with ranch dressing for dipping. So yummy. I've never raved about plain raw veggies before. Love the Caesar and always ask for anchovies. Steak Diane is a regular order. Juicy steak, luscious sauce. Our second trip to Haps. Reasonably priced steaks, and terrific service. Matt, our server, was extremely attentive, anticipating our needs without being obtrusive. He made the evening seem special, and we were well taken care of for our bday celebration. The mashed potato side continues to rate high, being smooth, creamy and garlicky. We had 3 prime ribs and a pork chop. I like my steaks medium rare plus, but unfortunately they offer either medium rare (some red) or medium (mostly pink). I selected medium and it was a little too done in some parts (not pink throughout). So I wish they offered a boneless rib eye steak so it could be cooked to order. But the a jus and horseradish were great with the steak. It was a nice evening, and we will return for sure! read more

At first the menu was limited as we had a big party, my guess is around 50 people or so. But then it got shortened to around 30, so we were able to order off of the regular menu. We had a private room pretty much, all the way in the back. There was another party there, but much smaller, probably about 10 people. Tricia was our server and honestly was excellent, so were the others helping her out. But Tricia I was impressed by how well she was on top of things for a party of 30, not an easy task. Food was great. Easily one of the best prime ribs I've ever had, it had tons of flavor, was perfect density, tenderness, temperature. Most people don't eat sauces with prime rib, typically just the au jus it comes with, but I got the peppercorn sauce, and gravy sauce and had more than a few bites of my prime rib dipped in those. Sides are huge, so if you go with 4 or less, 2 sides is enough, like spinach & mash, 4 people easily could share those 2. I would dine here again hands down. read more

Service was good for our party of 9. Our server was very proficient in rattling off all the specials that weren't on the menu. I complimented her on how she was able to recite all the items and kiddingly asked her if she'd repeat it from the top. I honestly felt there were too many items not listed and I would have preferred being able to peruse the specials visually. 4 of us chose the boneless ribeye special that came with mashed potatoes. We all enjoyed the ribeyes. 4 of us had the large cut prime rib and 1 had the smaller cut.
