Last review was over 9 years ago- just went back to Haps. Matt was our server and was 10/10 stellar service. The attention to detail, attentiveness, helpful, and knowledgeable bout the history of the place as well as the menu! Ambiance has not changed. Clean, old money feel. Moody lighting, old school decor. FOOD! The food. Wagyu beef amazing! Foie gras TENDER, delicious. Center cut filet mignon little tough cut but amazing chew and flavor. Ribeye- huge and delicious. Season veggies are delicious. I like simple. Don't complicate green beans. Not over cooked, not undercooked. Perfect. MAC AND CHEESE- is unbeatable. No one comes close, hands down the BEST SIDE!!! Cheese cake is perfect. Chocolate cake is delectable without being over sweet. Drinks- Old fashioned tasted like straight whiskey, but who minds if it's good whiskey. Haps 79 (I think is the name) not too sweet and YUMMMM! It's held up. It never disappoints.

We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here a couple weeks back and had an amazing time! Staff was very efficient in dealing with such a large group (21 people), taking orders, getting appetizers distributed, accounting for several different allergies/dietary restrictions, and more. They also put us at a large table in the back so it was relatively more private and comfortable. I really appreciate the effort they put into setting up for us! For the food, almost everyone ended up ordering the signature prime rib for the main course, and we split several different appetizers (calamari, cocktail shrimp, scallops which was the special appetizer of the day that was not on the menu, and more that individuals might have ordered). Appetizers were all solid, with the standout definitely being the scallops! So if those are on the menu when you go, I'd definitely recommend ordering it. The signature prime rib was HUGE but at the same time I think finishable by most people. Everyone was pretty shocked and intimidated when the plates were first put down but I think most of us ended up finishing, even with all the appetizers we ate beforehand. The rib itself was so, so soft and tender, with my only complaint perhaps being that the gravy could have had a bit more flavor--but I may just not be used to eating prime rib as I usually order leaner cuts of steak. I'd also recommend getting the prime rib cooked medium instead of medium rare if you typically prefer medium rare for other cuts (but I think this applies to all prime steaks and not just this restauarant). For dessert, we tried the bread pudding (which was seasonally flavored as a pumpkin spice bread pudding) and the chocolate creme brulée. I was a huge fan of the chocolate creme brulée, and found the bread pudding to be solid but not standout. Overall, I am really glad that we chose this restaurant for our rehearsal dinner! Pleasanton is a ways away from me, but if I'm in the area again I'd probably stop by and try some of their other steak!

At Haps again sitting at the bar with Eric having our usual Sunday dinner. Starting off with the crudites then Grilled artichokes. Both come in a reasonable time and we enjoy without being rushed. Then our main prime rib sandwich and crispy French fries arrive served spot on. Eric our bartender on Sunday evenings is such a pleasure to have serve us. He is Professional and so Personable. No matter how busy it gets he is always aware if you are in the need of something. He is quite the mixologist and has excellent recommendations. It's such a relaxing time sharing good conversation with Eric and Enjoying flavorful offerings from the kitchen. Well Done

First time at Hap's and I would have to say it is a classy dining experience. The food was well-prepared and flavorful, but what really stood out was the service. In addition to the service, each dish felt thoughtfully prepared, with fresh ingredients and balanced flavors that really stood out.

No need to go to San Francisco for a great steakhouse. Hap's is much closer with food and service just as good. Traditional, elegant dining room but a more impromptu meal is also available at the bar. Have only eaten in the dining room once, prefer sitting at the bar. Come right at 5 pm opening and have a good chance of snagging a seat there. Love the crudite. Kind of ignore it at other restaurants but here they serve the veggies simply chilled with ranch dressing for dipping. So yummy. I've never raved about plain raw veggies before. Love the Caesar and always ask for anchovies. Steak Diane is a regular order. Juicy steak, luscious sauce. I could go on but for a traditional meat and potatoes or surf and turf, Hap's Original is the place.

A-okay spot with a classy dining ambience and stellar customer service. What's disappointing is the overpriced food and drinks. The steaks are well cooked but don't have much flavor, and the sides are pretty disappointing for such an expensive meal, i.e. several pieces of bell pepper and string beans. The saving grace was the prime rib sandwich; plentiful of real steak and au jus. I'm not sure why it's not a staple on the menu, but I would definitely come back for that!

Review #841 Posted on 12.16.24 We came here for our annual company Christmas party this year on Friday night December 13th. Hap's has been around for ages, I ate here once before, but it must've been 20+ years ago. They've got good steaks, & good customer service. One thing over the years I've paid attention to, is if something is still in business years later, it's probably a good establishment. At first the menu was limited as we had a big party, my guess is around 50 people or so. But then it got shortened to around 30, so we were able to order off of the regular menu. We had a private room pretty much, all the way in the back. There was another party there, but much smaller, probably about 10 people. Tricia was our server and honestly was excellent, so were the others helping her out. But Tricia I was impressed by how well she was on top of things for a party of 30, not an easy task. Food was great. Easily one of the best prime ribs I've ever had, it had tons of flavor, was perfect density, tenderness, temperature. Most people don't eat sauces with prime rib, typically just the au jus it comes with, but I got the peppercorn sauce, and gravy sauce and had more than a few bites of my prime rib dipped in those. Sides are huge, so if you go with 4 or less, 2 sides is enough, like spinach & mash, 4 people easily could share those 2. I would dine here again hands down.

Service was good for our party of 9. Our server was very proficient in rattling off all the specials that weren't on the menu. I complimented her on how she was able to recite all the items and kiddingly asked her if she'd repeat it from the top. I honestly felt there were too many items not listed and I would have preferred being able to peruse the specials visually. 4 of us chose the boneless ribeye special that came with mashed potatoes. We all enjoyed the ribeyes. 4 of us had the large cut prime rib and 1 had the smaller cut. My husband enjoyed his prime rib but he didn't like the edges as it was really salty and reminded him of beef stew. All our meals were served with green beans. We ALL thought the green beans were tough. We all had leftover green beans on our plate. I was hoping the server would come by to ask how we enjoyed our meal, but we were never asked. While we ordered desserts, I took the opportunity to tell our server that we all thought the green beans were tough. She thanked me and said she'd be sure to tell the chef. My husband and I shared the apple crisp with ice cream and it was very good. Nothing was said about the green beans. Not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting silence.

Came to celebrate my birthday, came in at 6pm on a Tuesday and Boy! it was packed but got lucky to get seated right away even without a reservation. We ordered prime carpaccio and grilled octopus as a starter and both were delicious For dinner we had the prime rib and filet mignon, both was cooked to order Dessert was a bit disappointing, bread pudding was bland, need more cinnamon or and something else, vanilla cream brûlée was OK, can't taste the vanilla bean either. But over all the dinner was good. Shout out to our Server Nicole who took good care of us

We saw another table waiting to be serviced by him as well. Multiple workers walked by and just eyed each table but never offered help to the poor guy, therefore a few tables grew impatient. Cons: Soon as we walked in we were told it was going to be a 20-30 minute wait, not a problem. We gave them our phone number to alert us when our table was ready, so we found an area at the bar and sat down and waited. 45 minutes passed someone from our party wanted to see how much longer it would be. When asked how much longer, the host said they "didn't have our number to contact us". (Didn't make sense because we gave it to them soon as they asked us to have a seat to wait) They didn't bother to call for us like they were calling other people waiting for a table, they didn't want to walk around to find our party either. When they finally sat us down at a table, we noticed majority of the restaurant was empty (literally only 6-8 tables). Took us about 10 minutes to just get water for everyone (We were a table of 5 btw). Took over 20 minutes to take our order, took almost 30 minutes to get our order. Waited 15 minutes to get to go boxes and the tab. We came in around 7pm left around 9:45ish just to give an estimate of how long we were there for. As someone who had came here several times as they were a kid, to come as an adult for a quick visit to reminisce, it was a disappointment to say the least. Maybe next time I would go to another location to see if the service gets better.

My mom ordered the oxtail stew which wasn't on their brunch/lunch menu (dinner only), but I really appreciate that they were accommodating to make that dish for her. I've never had oxtail and it was delicious--tender, perfectly sweet and savory, and paired well with the plantains. The other dishes that my family ordered were hits too (jerk pork shoulder and seafood paella). We also tried the ripe plantains pancake Oscar for a sweet treat. I love anything marshmallow, so the brûléed marshmallow cream that blanketed the pancakes was heavenly. It also came with a plantain on top and a few other fruits to balance out the sweetness. Overall, we left full and all around very satisfied. The staff showed us such warm hospitality and came around often to check on us, despite being an almost packed house. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere had a fun lively energy. With indoor and outdoor seating options, anywhere you get seated is a nice spot. That set the tone for the evening. Service throughout the night lacked professionalism and hospitality. One male waiter, approximately in his 40s with slicked-back hair, was consistently rude, dismissive, sharp in tone, and visibly uninterested in helping our table. His behavior affected our entire party and made us feel unwelcome. Management should seriously address his service etiquette and overall conduct toward guests. The most disappointing part was the complete lack of acknowledgment of my wife's birthday. Throughout dinner, we watched several other tables celebrating birthdays receive desserts and recognition from staff, while our table received absolutely nothing despite the restaurant being informed ahead of time. At the end of dinner, we were simply handed the bill with no acknowledgment whatsoever. My wife even turned to me and asked, 'What about my birthday?' and honestly I had no answer for her. AND... they sent our family home with the leftover food, quite a lot that we've polished off since. Charge was $69 per person, three kids counted as one person for a special pizza, 20% service, tax, poured wines from a reasonably priced wine list. Total bill came to $4,000. So... Five stars. I would go back and probably order an entree size if they have it. lol We ordered some hummus, falafel and The bread with dipping sauces. All of which were freshly made. They offered a side of cut veggies for someone with gluten intolerance. Which I thought was really nice. Our server was the sweetest lady who was so down to earth, patient and very friendly. Thanks. The restaurant was clean and very cozy. It's an elegant restaurant worth going back to. Which I'm planning to do so I can try the meat dishes that looked really good. See you soon!
